Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together
Surprise Break!
=~;~=
The sound of smaller bird calls woke him this time, he nuzzled his face into his beloved's soft plumage. He felt the other gently preen him in response and smiled, this wasn't comparable to any other feeling he had ever felt before. Link felt his heart flutter a bit, so he gently ran his hand along the soft feathers and was amazed they were still so pristine. He knew his hair would often get messy and tangled when he slept but Revali didn't have so much as a feather out of place. He inspected a nearby feather before he spotted a very stiff piece down the center, similar to how a leaf had a stem and veins. The softer part of the feather looked like little strings that were somehow stuck all together. He ran a finger down the center of the feather in front of him, it was smooth and stiff just as he had thought. He had never really paid any mind to feathers or if he had, he had never really had this much interest at the very least.
"What exactly are you doing now?" Revali asked. Link looked up at his mate and smiled, as if to say 'nothing' with his expression alone. The other male sighed and preened him gently, before resting his beak on top of Link's head.
"How long have you been awake?" Link asked, attempting to move but immediately regretted it as all his muscles protested the movement. He hissed and relaxed instead of pushing it.
"A decent while," Revali replied, cryptically. "I am certain I woke before you, it was just barely daylight when I roused." Link looked to the door and groaned, no wonder there was so much noise. Daylight was definitely in full swing but it wasn't even midday yet, if he was reading the shadows correctly. More bird song, as he went back to nuzzling the other male, he didn't want to get out of bed. "I suppose resting is a good idea, we can not rest too long today however. There is much to do after all, I need to go and collect some supplies. And you are going to help me." Link pouted and made a small groan, he was too sore to do anything too tedious today. "Don't worry, it won't be quite as strenuous as our training session yesterday. Besides you will need to move around and stretch as well, if you don't want to be stiff as a board later."
"Yeah, you're right," Link replied, for now he just wanted to cuddle though. It was nice, safe and warm, here in the nest with Revali.
"Master Revali," it was a different voice, this one remained outside.
"A moment," Revali said, Link pouted as Revali left him in the nest. He watched his beloved dress and head out to greet the other rito. Link took that moment to stretch and get up, he dressed as well before heading out. The rito looked older than Revali, or maybe he was taller with lighter plumage. Revali was telling the other to give out the orders today, it seemed, as the rito nodded before peeking at him briefly and flying off. "He is the next in charge, if I am not around." Revali explained. "He is also older than the younger warriors, so it is sometimes a challenge for him to run things in my absence. The younger rito have no respect, with that upstart influencing them." Link smiled and walked forward, he wasn't really sure what to say.
"Did you try giving him extra work as punishment?" Link asked, remembering some of the punishments dished out to unruly recruits.
"I have, he finishes them fairly quickly," Revali replied, sounding annoyed. "Honestly youth is wasted on him, it might be time though to have some of the younger warriors move on to other things in the village. With monsters appearing very little if at all, there is no longer a need to have so many of us." Revali approached him looking rather menacing at that moment, then a grin caught his attention. "I suppose since you are up, we should go and get started with our own task, hmm?" Link frowned but nodded anyway, might as well get it done and over with.

Of course when he agreed, he wasn't expecting to be left at the flight range. He sighed, wondering just why he had agreed to this in the first place. Link groaned, he was still pretty sore from their training session yesterday. He looked to where Revali had flown off to, only to see the other returning and his satchel was full. He sat up a little straighter as the other male landed and pulled out a couple of wild fowl. Revali set his satchel down on the table and wordlessly began to pluck feathers from the wild bird. Link took up a bird as well, he might as well help seeing as he had agreed to it. He saw Revali put the feather's in the satchel as he plucked them, it took several moments to completely pluck the fowl. He was surprised when he looked over, to see Revali was already halfway done with a second one. A light blue rito landed nearby, he was holding two more wild fowl. Link took one and began to pluck it, he was lacking in speed but he managed to keep the feather's intact as he plucked them.
The rito set down the second wild fowl, then promising to come back soon and flying off again. When he finished the wild fowl, he saw that Revali was finished with the one he had had as well as the new one brought in. Revali carefully explained to him how to prep the feather's, then showing how and where to cut. Link nodded before helping with the task at hand, he noted when the other rito returned with bundles of shafts.
"I brought these," he said, setting them down and taking a breather. "C-c-can I.. c-can I help?" Revali nodded. The male had a prominent yellow crest, he realized as the male began to take the prepared feathers and applying them to the arrow shafts he had brought. He also noticed the other had some white and dark spots along the blue feathers of his wings and some of the more prominent feathers of his tail. Link went back to work, as the initial surprise wore off. He glanced at Revali but the other male was concentrating on his work. The warrior was much faster than Link at preparing the feathers, so he redoubled his efforts. "Oh here, put the completed ones in my satchel." he offered. Revali was quick to move the prepared feathers, just before a gust nearly blew a feather he had been working on away.
He frowned when the other two chuckled at him, as he had scrambled to catch the flighty feather bits. Before placing the prepared ones, into the satchel and finish the rest of the feather. Some of the larger feathers make multiple, while smaller ones made at least one unless they were too small. A second rito arrived rather out of breath, he had two satchels full but he didn't see what they were full of. That is until the other set them down and showed Revali the arrow tips.
"I brought arrow tips," the male finally breathed out, before taking a seat. His dark blue feathers contrasted with the red stripes and tips on his wing and tail feathers. He even had two red crest feathers. Link got back to work as the other rito joined in without asking first, he was placing the arrow heads on the nearly completed arrows. The second satchel had the explosive tips, he realized after a while. Revali took a brief break to cook the wild fowl and soon they all took a break for lunch, he frowned wondering why he hadn't thought to cook. Then again Revali didn't complain about making meals, in fact his rito almost seemed to enjoy his reactions to them.
Link smiled when Revali handed him a plate and where did he get the plates from? He looked over to spot the box that Revali had brought over with them, when they first made their way here. He caught a movement out of the corner of his eye and saw the darker male preening the other rito, the other didn't seem to appreciate it much though. He looked to Revali and gave the other male a huge grin, Revali was regarding him and was soon grinning at him. He chuckled as Revali preened him briefly, he found a spot to sit and enjoy the meal. Revali wasn't far away, the other two males had remained near the cooking fire.
"Are they..?" Link began, though not trying to assume anything.
"If you are wondering if they are related, then no," Revali said. Link was surprised that that had been Revali's first assumption.
"So rito preen family members too?" Link asked, teasingly. Revali clicked his beak, a little pink showed through from beneath his feathers.
"Yes, it is a sign of affection," Revali replied. "It is expressed less often among family members, while being expressed more often between lovers. It expresses the depth of love the other feels, for their mate. When you sink your hands into my plumage, it feels a lot like how preening feels. Even though it is not preening by the same sense, I still greatly adore your affection." Link could feel his face and ears heating up a little at that, then a smile made it's way onto his face. "I would say that one of them plans to court the other soon, at least from the amount and frequency of the preening." Link jolted a bit at that, Revali could tell all of that just from preening? "Though he may be waiting to be preened back before starting such an endeavor."
Link looked over to the two, the one was still not thrilled with being preened so much but the other seemed to enjoy preening the light blue male. "They look cute together," Link mentioned. He looked to see Revali's smile, he ducked his head a little and then turned his attention back to the food. He finished up and Revali took his plate, placing it on the box with his own. Soon they got back to work, the other two rito joining them, only once they had finally finished eating. They spent the rest of the time diligently working, for the most part. Once Link finished with his last feather, he stood up and stretched. He thought about helping the other two but they seemed to be in the zone. Revali had already finished and was now doing his rounds of target practice for the day. He was captivated by the speed and aerial agility.
"You're Master Revali's mate, right?" It was the lighter colored rito. Link turned and nodded, he wasn't sure why the other was asking. "What's he like? I mean.. off duty."
"He's.. hmm, well he's pretty quiet with me these days," Link replied. "Why?"
"Oh no, I was just curious," The rito replied. "He just seems like he's changed a bit, usually he is really hard on all of us but since he mated. He's just sort of a different rito, you know?" Link was surprised to hear this, Revali was treating everyone differently it seems.
"Maybe he's trying a different tactic," Link said. "Or maybe he is happier. At least, I have noticed him smile more often."
"Yeah, us too," the rito said, excitedly. The darker rito stood and walked over as well, it seemed he didn't like to be left all by himself.
"I'm Link and you are..?" Link asked.
"I'm Nysh," the lighter male replied. "This is Munsezo, he's not really talkative but we are on the same team. We help Master Revali restock the arrows, here at the Flight Range."
"That's awesome," Link replied. "He kind of asked me to help him today, which is fair considering we were training yesterday."
"Master Revali was training with you yesterday?" Munsezo asked. Link nodded and watched as the other rito looked thoughtful, for a moment. Link froze briefly when a wing wrapped around him, he looked to see Revali had finished his session and smiled.
"Have you two finished the arrows?" Revali asked. Nysh suddenly looked a little panicked.
"I'll go finish right now, Master Revali!" Nysh said and went back to work. Munsezo didn't seem nearly as concerned, about getting back to work right away. He did go back over to his spot, then started to put arrowheads on to complete the arrows.
"So, are you going soft?" Link asked.
"Not even a little," Revali replied, his tone sounded dangerous. Link wondered if he was in trouble, he hoped not. He wrapped his arms around his lover and looked up to see Revali was watching him. "Honestly, how is anyone going to take me seriously if you do this?"
"You telling me, that they will look at you differently?" Link asked. "Don't they have more respect for you than that?" Revali looked like he was about to speak but stopped, he felt those wings wrap around him.
"How ridiculous," Revali remarked.
"I haven't heard you use that word before," Link teased. Revali chucked at that, he was sort of glad that the other male hadn't used his usual word. Then again it was often said with contempt, so maybe he stopped using it because of that. "Well if they don't take you seriously, I'm sure you could always straighten them out with a little bit of the old Revali. A little bit though."
"Fair," Revali replied. "It wouldn't be hard to correct their attitudes. Then again even being the old me didn't really get them to listen, especially the younger ones." He felt for his beloved, he really did. "Regardless, we may have to limit these interactions to the roost, sometimes at least."
"Okay," Link replied. He didn't want to undermine the other male's authority, in front of the other warriors. These two seemed like they were cool, however and they worked hard as well. "Should we help them?"
"They can handle it, besides if they didn't have this.. I would have to give them something else to do, to fill the rest of their time today," Revali explained. "Whereas, if we leave them to it, they can go home right after they finish." He smiled at the logic, so this was an excuse to go home somewhat early then. "In fact, we have somewhere else we need to be." He chewed his bottom lip at that, what could they possibly need to do now? He fretted, as he followed the other male a good distance from the flight range. Revali summoned his gale and was off, Link followed using his para-sail but it seemed they were not heading back to the village. In fact they seemed to be heading away from it, he wasn't sure where they were heading but he was intrigued. Revali used his gale occasionally, to keep him in the air but he did eventually have to rest. Instead of stopping Revali just swooped under him, he grabbed onto the other male in his surprise.
He was amazed at just how strong of a flier Revali was, he knew he wasn't light by any means but then again his gale probably did most of the work. It did seem like the warrior could stay in the air, nearly indefinitely. Revali finally made his way down, to what looked like large wooden statues or totems setup in a trianglar formation. There were four hylians there at the statues and one at the top of the slope. This was where Revali had decided to land, Link let go once he had his feet on the ground.
"We would like to play," Revali told the Hylian.
"Oh, of course," he said. The hylian explained the game and the rules before telling them the price per game, he was really surprised by this. He hadn't expected Revali to want to play a game. He smiled at his beloved rito and watched as he went first, rolling a fairly large snowball down the slope. Link watched it roll all the way, hitting the front most statue. He watched as almost every statue fell, with one teetering around a bit. Link almost thought it wouldn't fall, when suddenly it tipped completely over.
"That was amazing," Link said. He watched a slight pink appear, just beneath the feather's and Revali's tail shook side to side rapidly. He watched as the four Hylians below, moved away from their little fire and set the wooden statues back up. Revali paid for him to play, he went to pick up a large snowball and hefted it. He then rolled it down the slope, he watched as it hit the statues knocking over the first half it crashed through then knocking over all but two. He grinned, despite failing his first try, it was actually pretty fun to play this snow rolling game. He looked over to see Revali grinning a bit, he wondered if the other was feeling a little smug about it all.
"Not bad for your first time," Revali said, his lover then spent a few moment's explaining the slope to him and how every invisible bump could alter the path of the snowball. He then explained how he got all of the statues down and how he had done it several times before. "Honestly though, it did worry me with that last statue." Link grinned at that, he had been pretty worried too but he wouldn't tell Revali that.
"You play this game a lot?" Link asked. He watched as the other male's feathers fluffed a bit, there was no answer for quite a while.
"Only when I have free time," Revali finally answered. "Specifically today, it is good for newly mated couples to spend time together. I wasn't really sure how we could do that, with all of my responsibilities that is. However, I have quite a few warriors, who can take my place in these peaceful times. I suspect some warriors, may move on to other things in the village, now that it is no longer under threat. I will not be moving on, hopefully you do not mind that."
"Of course I don't mind," Link replied. "I understand, you are their leader. You keep them organized and decide their schedule for the day, the week and the month." He was teasing the warrior now but Revali didn't seem to mind. "It's a lot of responsibility but I can't see you without it, honestly."
"Oh?" he asked.
"What would the great Revali be, if he is not a warrior," Link teased, he pulled Revali close and kissed his beak. He was definitely spoiling his lover but he couldn't help it, his mate was better than the other rito in almost everything.
"I suppose that is a fair point," Revali replied. They spent the next few moments rolling more snowballs and knocking over statues before Revali offered his back. Link was surprised, could the other male lift off with him on? He climbed on and held on. Link was even more surprised, when the gale was summoned and lifted them both into the air. He nuzzled his face into his lover's scarf, mostly to keep the chill wind from freezing his nose. Link could feel every small movement like this, from the flapping, to other more intricate movements. He wasn't sure what Revali was doing, when he wasn't flapping but he could definitely feel muscles coil and bunch at times. The wind changed direction and he could feel Revali adjusting to it, it was such a simple motion.
It was nearly dark when they finally landed on Vah Medoh, Link let go once he was standing. He had to be mindful of Revali's talons, when he placed his feet down after all. Link made his way into their little nook, roost? He was pretty sure, that Revali probably considered it a roost. He removed his boots and socks as well as everything else, that was non-essential beneath the blankets. He climbed into the nest then sighed, today had been surprisingly fun and he got to see a little of the other male's fun side. Once Revali climbed into the nest, he straddled the other male, he nibbled his bottom lip as Revali watched him. He wasn't sure why but he wanted to reward the other male, he kissed his beloved rito's beak.
Link could feel the other male's member but tonight, he wanted to do something just for Revali. Something he was certain that no rito would ever be able to experience, in the same fashion at least. He maneuvered himself into position and took the spiraling phallus into his mouth. He was very careful and thorough as he teased the shaft. He heard soft coos in response. Link realized he must be doing something right, if the other male was being so audible. He used his hand as well, to tease what he couldn't fit in his mouth. He ran his tongue all along the inner part, before running along the outside and tip. He sucked the tip gently before taking more of it, into his mouth again.
"Link!" Revali suddenly called out. It was the only warning he had, as his lover came, he was surprised at the salty and sweet flavor. His lover actually tasted really good to him, he hadn't expected that at all. It took him a moment to realize, that his rito was breathing heavily, when the other male finally relaxed into the nest. Link sucked lightly on the tip, causing a twitch from his lover, before he finally released the other male's member. He then climbed up to cuddle and listen to Revali's thundering heartbeat, he then smiled a bit. He yawned as Revali covered them with the blanket and shortly after, he fell asleep.
