Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

The Search for Winter's Kiss

He really wasn't even sure where he would find it, let alone when. As it was he was scouring Mount Hebra for any sign of the elusive flower, a shift in the wind was his only warning. He panicked as the winds whipped up around him, surrounding him in snow and ice. Even his gale could not alter the path of these winds, his breathing became labored and ice began to form on his wings. He tried to fight his way out of the storm but it threw him to the peak, the rock digging into his back and the cold surrounded him. Snow was falling all around him in waves burying him alive on the mountain peak. He wished desperately, that he could be with his mate at that very moment. Then everything went dark.

Revali awoke, sitting straight up and panting then he raised his wings to fly. Arms wrapped around his waist and though he couldn't see, he knew they belonged to his mate. He lowered his wings and attempted to calm down, his breathing and heart were flying even though he was not. He gulped still struggling to get his breathing under control, he had never had a dream so vivid, so real. Was his mother trying to warn him? Was Mount Hebra too dangerous for him to go to today?

He started to take deep breaths in an effort to calm down, the dream was so real he thought that he would actually die there. He thought he would be forced to leave his mate but he wasn't on Mount Hebra. "It was just.. It was just a nightmare," he told himself.

"Hey, I'm right here," Link said. "You are safe, I promise." He chuckled and turned to Link, he grabbed both sides of Link's head and slowly brought their foreheads together. He couldn't see but with his wings on Link's head he could guess. "Revali.. Mm my father once told me, that if you talk about your nightmares, they won't come to pass. Do you want to tell me about it?"

"Is there any truth to that?" Revali asked.

"I think so, I always talked about my bad dreams with my father and they never came true," Link offered.

"Okay, I was.." Revali paused. "I was flying around Mount Hebra, the wind shifted and suddenly I was caught in a blizzard. I tried to fight the wind, tried to use my gale but I failed to escape. I was tossed to the peak and slowly covered with snow, I thought I would die there. I thought I would never see you again."

"Isn't that.. didn't your mother.." Link tried to ask but it was clear the other male was struggling with words. "Is she maybe trying to warn you? Or tell you how she died?" Revali felt his eyes widen suddenly, all of his feathers stood on end as well. He hadn't thought of it until then but why then would she have been looking for the Winter's Kiss. He stood only to have his mate come with him and stop him from trying to walk around.

"I need to speak with the Chieftain," he complained.

"In the middle of the night?" Link asked. "There's no moon tonight, how do you plan to fly?" His mate had a point, he sighed allowing Link to push him back into the nest.

"Fine, I will speak with him in the morning," Revali replied, laying back down. He was terrified to go back to sleep. The dream still haunted him and worse yet, he was now certain he had actually seen through his mother's eyes. His father had never spoken of her but Revali had seen the pale blue feathers of her tail and wings when the wind tossed her to the peak. What did it mean? Did it mean he had inherited the gale from her? Had she been looking for the Winter's Kiss as well? And why? Eventually he did manage to drift off back to sleep, it was actually quite easy once he had relaxed completely.

He woke groggily as the rays of the sun poured in, he flinched and sat up realizing the suns rays shouldn't be coming into Vah Medoh. He stood and dressed before heading out to the tail, Vah Medoh screeched as he looked around. "Medoh, did you honestly start flying around without my telling you too?" The old bird remained silent, then he realized what must have happened. "Did you start flying after my nightmare?" the resounding screech was answer enough, Vah Medoh was so in tune with him that it could fly even when he could not. He interfaced with the Divine Beast, it was then he saw where Medoh was. Medoh was circling just around Mount Hebra, he panicked a bit when he saw it. The wind shifted and cold air blasted him, he quickly ducked back inside the beast and having the bird close off all the windows. "Medoh, I hope you can withstand a blizzard." He said as the door he just came through, sealed behind him. He remained interfaced and guided the giant bird to the large flat land near the mountain. The winds gusted throwing one of Vah Medoh's wings, he slid across the floor and urged the Divine Beast to straighten out.

"Revali!" Link shouted. He heard his mate grunt and the sound of rope. "Ugh there, stay." He wasn't sure who or what his mate was talking to but he couldn't focus on that right now. Vah Medoh screeched as he guided it to land suddenly, he then eased it fully to the ground so the winds wouldn't toss them around. In this position however, there was a worry of being buried in snow. Every propeller was shut down, every window closed and with a quick fly around the Divine Beast, he made sure every entrance and exit was shut tight as well. He returned to check on Link which was becoming increasingly difficult the more the blizzard raged, blocking out the light from the windows. Thunk, Thunk, the sound had him jumping and scrambling to interface with the Divine Beast. Unfortunately he couldn't see where it was coming from. "Should we open the door?"

Revali nodded and opened the door nearest him, three Lynels were waiting there and they stepped inside. He tensed as they made their way into his Divine Beast, they brought with them two hylians and a bokoblin as well. It was the only reason he didn't shut the door when he saw them, Link went out to pull the donkey inside as well. Once they were all crowded within, Revali closed the door once more. There wasn't nearly enough room for them all in that tiny space however, so he made a quick few adjustments. Then he guided the Lynels and their charges into one of the wings. Once they were all in the wing together did he finally ask, "What exactly happened to you all?"

"Oh these Lynels found us, my brother and I were lost on the icy plains," the female hylian said. "This bokoblin here we ran into when the storm hit and then the Lynels brought us to this, what is this?"

"This is the Divine Beast, Vah Medoh and I am the old bird's pilot," Revali replied. Link arranged some fire wood before lighting it, Vah Medoh did not complain thankfully. "Honestly though I have no idea why Vah Medoh flew us out here. I did not pilot the divine beast to here, it was like the old bird had a mind of it's own today." Vah Medoh screeched and he gave the bird a glare for it's input. The Lynels tensed, only briefly before relaxing and laying down near the fire.

"It's definitely a bad storm today," the male hylian said. Sound of stomach's rumbling had him rising, he went to fetch the cooking pot and some dishes. Thankfully all his things had been brought from his old roost, Link also had some ingredients in his pack so he grabbed those and brought them back with him. He placed the cooking pot over the fire and set down the box of dishes, he then dug through Link's pack and selected a few ingredients. Link helped him by pulling out a few things like the rock salt and even a hylian herb. One of the Lynels handed him a large hunk of meat, he nodded and began to cook the meal. When it was finished he portioned it out to everyone there, serving him and his mate last. Revali sighed, he would have never guessed that they would one day be trapped in a blizzard. Let alone eating with monsters and others who were stranded in the middle of.. this kind of situation.

"Well honestly," Revali whispered. "I never would have imagined that Lynels would one day be saving people." The lead Lynel grunted as if in response, one of the others was shaking off the snow near the window before walking back over to the fire. The lead Lynel was a female, he was only sure of that as she wore a crude top. The other two were males and both males were blue maned while she was a silver. She groomed one of the two males, freeing the snow from his mane and generally fussing over him. She then groomed the other and fussed over that one, getting the remaining snow out of that ones mane as well. He briefly wondered if the two males were her offspring and if so, then were they not old enough to be out on their own? The bokoblin set the plate down on top of the others that were dirty, he wasn't exactly sure how he would clean any of these things.

Let alone how he could get water for everyone, he watched as the Lynel looked at the glasses and a sudden idea popped into his head. He opened a window nearby only slightly and using a cup packed it full of fresh fallen snow. The Lynels quickly followed his lead and did the same. He then used a couple of bowls for the same result, when finished he closed the window and brought them over to the fire. The Lynels and even the bokoblin helped with that also, now they would only need to wait for the snow to melt and they would have water for what they needed. He would use of the bowls of water to clean the dishes, of course when the snow did finally melt, Link beat him to the dish cleaning. His mate had pulled out a small cloth that was square and began to clean the plates with the Bokoblin using the one bowl of water.

Revali went to their nest and grabbed out the furs from their nest, as well as all of his old pillows and some other extra furs and blankets he had. He then placed them into a basket and carried them over to the group. It wouldn't make sense to let them all freeze, especially since it was getting colder as the blizzard continued. It wasn't long before Link had set up a separate fire, from the cooking one, so he could make it larger and create more warmth that way. Meanwhile Revali made sure, that everyone had something to stay warm with and something to lay on. The Lynels declined the pillows but gladly accepted the furs for some extra warmth.

One of the Lynels soon went and brought the donkey over as well wedging it between them to keep it warm. The creature was lacking all the goods that had been tied to it, perhaps the Lynels couldn't carry it with the extra weight. Either way no creature would freeze tonight, for dinner Revali pulled out a spicy pepper along with a few other ingredients. The female Lynel even went out in the blizzard for a brief period, before coming back with dead fox. She cleaned it and Revali cooked the meat into another dish, he made sure everyone had a portion of the available food before serving himself and his mate. He sighed once all the cleaning was finished and empty cups had been refilled with yet more snow to be melted. It had been a long day, the blizzard still hadn't let up and the cold was only becoming more so. He watched as the bokoblin tossed another stick on the fire, the creature seemed to be very careful around the flames.

"Wake me if you need me to take a turn at tending the fire," Revali told the Lynel, she closed her eyes and bowed her head. It was then he decided to sleep, curling up with his mate who had already passed out earlier. He even put on another blanket as Link was quite cold, only then did he fell asleep.
