Continuation...
Chandler ran over to his apartment, regretting bursting out his love for Monica. He's worried that the news will be passed on to the group. There's a reason why he didn't tell this to anyone.
Monica suddenly came out of the apartment, meeting Chandler across the hall, "Hey, that was fast. Are you okay? You look kinda fretful," She asked, worried by his best friend's state. His face was red, his breathing was deep and shallow and it looks like he'd been to an argument.
"Uhm—"
"Chandler, wait let me— Monica..." Ross said, slowly moving towards them.
Well, this is awkward, Chandler thought.
He groans, and heads to his apartment, slamming the door in front of them. Monica was left stunned while Ross sigh, knowing his best friend is upset because of him.
"Did something happened?" Monica asked, worried and confused at the same time.
"No—Nothing..." He trailed out as he looks at his little sister, he didn't know that Chandler was in love with her, he's been busy with his unrequited love with Rachel that he didn't notice that his best friend is falling in love with his sister. He sighs, "Let me just talk to him for a while...Okay, It's all my fault anyway," He said, patting her shoulders as she nodded, "Why did you have to kiss his mother?" She said, sternly, "I'll talk to you later, let me deal with this first, okay." Ross said.
He slowly opened the boy's apartment and Chandler was sitting on the chair, as the same as earlier, when he received the disturbing news about his mother and Ross.
He slowly, walks in front of him and took a deep breath, "Chandler, please let me talk..." he pleaded.
"There's nothing to talk about, Ross...just—just don't tell the others about that..." He said, inaudible, rubbing his face with his hands.
"Chandler, don't worry. I'm not going to tell anyone about that. I just want to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for kissing your mom and I'm sorry for pushing you into saying that. I'm so sorry..." He said, full of sadness and regret in his voice.
He sighs and stands up in front of him, "It's okay. I forgive you. You're right anyway...that I need to talk about my mother about her behaviour and I'm sorry too if you're the only one, I blamed."
"So, this means we're okay?" Ross reluctantly asked, and Chandler gave him a wistful smile, "Yeah... we're okay," They hesitantly open their arms, and give a brotherly hug, patting each other's backs.
When they break it off, awkward silence took them off. Ross looks at him as Chandler looks around the apartment, avoiding his glance, "So... you're in love with Monica..." He said, bringing out the unexpected revelation earlier, "Ross—"
"I know. I know. You don't want to tell me but I just wanna know since when was this started?" He asked, he badly wanna know when was these feelings started.
Chandler sigh, having second thoughts whether tell him or not. He loves Monica since forever, he didn't know when was this started, he just knows that he always has a soft spot for her. He shrugged his shoulders and jerk his feet, "I don't really know...Maybe it's the time we went to the zoo..." He confessed, inaudible.
Ross tries to reminiscence the event and his eyes widen, "Oh! The time you bit by a peacock!" He exclaimed, "Yeah, Remember we split ways; I was with Monica, you were with Phoebe and Joey. We were feeding the peacock then suddenly I don't know, I just knew I felt something for her and... that's how I got bitten," He told as Ross chuckle.
"That was a year ago. Has it been that long?"
"I don't know, Ross. I just know, that I always have a soft spot for her since the first time I met her."
Ross scoffed, "Didn't you call her fat?" and he gave him a look, "Just don't mention this to everybody, okay? It's bad enough that you; her brother, knows" He said and Ross sighs, "Okay... I'll keep it a secret but are you planning on telling her about this?" He asked.
"Like you're secret crush for Rachel?"
"Dude." He said, sternly
He sighs, "No, I'm not going to tell her about this..."
"Why?"
"Because it's going to be complicated and she likes better this way; just friends and I'm going to respect that, if she's happy this way, then it's better to stay like this," He sighs, sitting down from the chair, again, burying his face into his hands.
Ross puts his hand on his shoulder, for comfort, "You wanted more, do you?" He asked, rubbing his back and he nodded into his hand, "Yes," He mumbles, "But I can't..."
He knows he can't. As much as he wants to...
He can't.
The whole gang was in the apartment, helping Monica to clean because she called her parents and told them to come. Today's the day they're going to share the news about her pregnancy and she couldn't be more nervous. She knows that her mother was not fond of Chandler and she didn't know the reason. Maybe because he's aloof or he jokes all the time, has some Thanksgiving issue or he throws his coat everywhere but the last part was just Monica talking.
The others were now tired and Monica still continues to clean even though the whole apartment is perfectly clean. "Monica, Everything is okay now. Just sit down and keep yourself calm." Her brother, Ross said.
"Easy for you to say. You're the favourite. You're the golden child and your not the one who will be receiving all the critics!" She yelled.
Ross covers his ears, slightly scared of her sister's sudden outburst, "You're only in your second trimester, right?" He said, sarcastically, moving away from her.
He went to Chandler and whispered, "Deal with her,"
Chandler rolled his eyes and went to Monica, "Monica, everything is perfect now. Just get dressed and keep yourself calm. I'll clean up here if there's anything else to clean up," He said in a calm, assurance voice.
She looks at him skeptically and the others who were tired and slouched on the sofa. She takes a deep breath and sighs, "Okay, But don't mess things up and guys please sit properly and flop those pillows again. Ugh! I'm going crazy!" She muttered, going inside her room, slamming the door.
"Damn, We're going to deal 6 months with Pregnant Monica?! That's a lot!" Joey whined.
Chandler chuckled as he does what he promised to her earlier, flopping the pillows and wiping the table in the kitchen. The gang looks at him curiously. They never see him like these which was kinda weird to them. They can't really imagine Chandler being a father figure once the baby comes, maybe because they just always saw him as a scared commitment guy but you can't really know what's going inside a person's head.
Chandler notices the gang, looking at him weirdly, "Is there a monkey's ass on my shoulder?" He asked and they were still looking at him, "Guys! Stop staring! It's weird,"
They all flinched, coming back to reality, "Sorry"
"What's going on?" He asked them.
They all take a glance at each other, not wanting to say what they were thinking, they were save by Monica coming out by the bedroom, wearing a white casual-length dress and her baby bump is slightly showing, "Guys! I told you to flop the pillows!" She exclaimed.
Chandler looks at her in awe. He was mesmerized by her beauty, he didn't want his eyes to look at a different point; only at her. Phoebe notices this and a grin suddenly forms her face, "Chandler already flopped it, Mon. Right Chandler?"
Monica turns her attention to Chandler who was still gawking at her, the rest of the gang starts to stifle their laughter because of Chandler's unconscious action, "Right, Chandler?" Phoebe cleared her throat again. He flinched and realized that he was staring at Monica for a minute, "Yeah, you're beautiful—" He let out what he was thinking the whole time, making the others laugh, "I mean, I flopped the pillows," closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose; cringing.
Monica's face slightly reddens and looks down at her dress, straightening it, "Well, Thank you...Thank you for flopping the pillows, I mean...," She said, awkwardly.
The rest minus Joey shook their heads, they already know that something's going on between them; the girls for sure because of their Woman Intuition~, while Ross already knew Chandler's secret and Joey is just being Joey, he doesn't really know what's happening to them.
Monica went to the kitchen, bumping Chandler on the way and they were confused about which direction to go, they both laugh, "I'm just going to go this way," pointing at his left side.
"Then I'm going to be in this way," pointing at her right, nodding.
Could that be any more awkward? Chandler thought.
Her parents already came and so far nothing too critical happened. Her mother though continues to talk about Ross and Monica less. Making her annoyed, she knows she loves Ross more than her and she didn't care about all of that, but for a second, just for a second, she just wants her mother's attention at her.
Chandler notices this so he kicked Ross underneath the table making his drink splattered around the table, "Ross, are you okay?" Phoebe asked, rubbing his back. Ross gave Chandler a look and his eyes gesturing at Monica's.
He furrowed, had no idea what he was doing. Chandler rolled his eyes and he points his fingers at her and Ross realized, "Oh."
He cut his mother's conversation about him "Mom, enough of me. How about Monica? Monica isn't there something you want to tell mom about?"
Monica throws her head up, eyes wide open. Her mother looks at her and sighs, "Okay, If something is interesting about her life." She said, straightforwardly.
She takes a glance at Chandler beside her and gave him a would-you-look-at-her look. He puts his hand on her knee and taps it for comfort. She took a deep breath, "Mom. Dad. Please, don't freak out okay..."
"Is there something wrong, Sweetie?" Her dad asked in concern while her mother continues to eat her food.
"There's nothing wrong, Dad. It's just that..." She takes one last glance at Chandler and sighs, "I'm pregnant." She said.
There was a strained silence for a while, when suddenly "I told you, Jack," Her mother abruptly said, taking a sip on her drink and the gang looks at her perplexed.
Monica looks at them back and forth, "What? You knew? How?" She asked, surprised.
"Well, your mother noticed that something's wrong with you earlier,"
"And your bump was visible into that dress," Her mother said and she looks down on her stomach, rubbing at it, "Oh."
"So...Monica what came into your head and got yourself pregnant, huh? Got bored? Want to steal Ross's thunder? What?" She probe, with full tactlessness.
Monica's heart sank "What?" Furrowing at her and the gang stops eating for a while getting uncomfortable by the situation.
"What came into your head and got yourself pregnant?" She asked, again.
Monica heard her the first time, she just can't believe that she asked that kind of question, "I—Uh— Uhm..."
"See Jack, She doesn't even know."
"Let her talk, Judy," squeezing her arm.
"It doesn't matter. Who's the father?" She asked. Chandler tensed up and she takes a shot at Monica who's eyes are starting to form some tears. He needs to help her, he thought.
He took a deep breath and step up, "Uhm. I'm the— I'm the father, Mrs. Geller," He said.
Her mother scoffed unimpressed, "What are you doing with your life Monica? Why are being so careless all of a sudden?"
She puts her head down, Ashamed. She can't handle this anymore and in front of her friends. She wants to escape. Escape this ignominy. She chocked by her own throat, "Excuse me for a moment," and quickly went to her bedroom, shutting the door behind her.
Chandler looked in her direction and he was irritated about the way her mother acted towards her. He stands up suddenly and the others look at him, "Mrs. Geller, I'll just have to say that you're an excellent mother to your daughter and I hope you pay your attention to her like you pay your attention to Ross. Excuse me," He clenched his teeth when he said that, trying not to outburst in front of her parents. He excused himself and went to Monica's bedroom.
She left her mother, stunned.
He closes the door behind him and saw Monica sitting at the edge of the bed, sniffing, "Hey," He said, sitting down beside her. "Why does she have to be like that? When she found out about Ross and Carol's situation she takes it well and when it comes to me, She became this judgemental, insensitive person. Does she cared about me at all?!" She cried out.
Chandler didn't know what to do with these kinds of situations, occasionally, he just makes a sarcastic comment but he thought it wasn't the right time to do that.
He put his arm around her back and let her lay her head on his shoulder, crying silently, "She cares for you, for sure. Mother just... becomes different to their daughters and maybe... she went the same thing with her mother that she lashes that on you," He said.
She scoffed, wiping her tears away, "That's so cliché," She raises her head up to look at him, "You know. I'm never going to be like that to my daughter. I'm going to give her all the attention she wants. I'm never going to be like my mother. Never!" She exclaimed.
Chandler chuckled, "I know you wouldn't. You're better than your mother," He said, stroking her hair.
"How do you say that? I'm don't even have a child yet,"
"Mon, you take care 4 people and Joey, I think that proves something." He softly said.
She chortles at his remark. He made her laugh without trying so hard. She felt slightly better because of him, and this is one of the reasons that he likes about him. He knows how to become serious at the right time and be funny at the same time.
"Thank you, Chandler. I really appreciate that," She said.
"No, Thank you, Mon for taking care of us and someday I know that you're going to be a wonderful mother to our...baby," He mumbles, wiping her tears away from her cheeks.
Her heart was racing on how sweet being Chandler was. Every time he said some things like that, her feelings for him continue to grow, making it even harder for her to move on.
She smiled at him and leaned in, kissing him softly in the cheeks. He blushed and his stomach tickled, "Thank You, Chandler."
She stands up and took a deep breath; going to face her mother again. He looks at her and she was determined, determined to stand herself up.
"Are you going to be okay, now?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "Yes, You're there for me anyway," she smiled, holding her hand out on him. With pleasure he accepts it and stands up, "I don't know, Mon... I'm kinda scared to face your mother. I think you might be the one who needs to be there for me," He quipped.
She sighs, "Mothers...Anyway, let's go?" holding the knob of her door.
"Wait. I just want to say that...—I love the way you look tonight, Mon," He said, his words were inspired by her favourite song Just The Way you Look Tonight.
She holds his hand firmly, trying to keep her heart rate steady. Does he wants her to fall in love with him, because it was working, she thought.
She tiptoed and kiss his cheek again, "You're sweet. Thank you,"
He smiled, "No problem. Let's go and face the reality again."
After they went out, Judy talks to Monica alone and apologizes for the way she acted. Ross talked to his mother and Judy didn't know that she was hurting her, part of her regret what she did.
While Monica was talking to her mother, her father talked to Chandler and this is one of the social situations too that he's uncomfortable with.
"Chandler, Although I look nice on the outside, you don't want to mess up with me," He said, Chandler swallowed, feeling terrified by Jack, "My daughter is precious to me. She's my little harmonica after all and I don't want to see her broken. Your situation that you are handling today could not be more difficult so please. Please, don't leave her alone."
Chandler looks inside the apartment by the balcony window and saw Monica having a conversation with her mother on the couch. He nodded his head softly, "Don't worry. Mr. Geller I'm not going to leave her, She's one of my best friends, I could never do that to her."
Jack cleared his throat, "Is that all?" he asked and Chandler looks at him confused, "Yeah... Is there something else?"
He sighs, "Boy, I may be a guy but I can see the way you look to my daughter. So, talk. Do you have feelings for her?"
Chandler's body jumped by his question, "What?" He chuckled nervously.
What's with the Gellers and knowing his secret? First was Ross now his father.
He takes a shot glance at Monica and She noticed that he was staring at her so she gave him a smile of reassurance saying that, "I'm okay,".
"Look! There's that look again!" Jack exclaimed.
Chandler drops his head down, hiding his rosy cheeks, "Well, you got me," He said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"That's Great! Why don't you tell her how you feel? It perfectly seems clear that she likes you too,"
He sighs, "I know...and she knows...and we talked about it but...she doesn't want to cross the line between our friendship, she said that...If anything happens; both of us just going to hurt each other and I don't like it if I'm the reason for her sadness, it kills me so it's better this way, We're both happy..."
Jack gave him a sad look, he understands that it will be complicated if something happens between them.
"Oh. That's good of you that you thought about her feelings first and for understanding her..." Chandler shrugged, embarrassed. "Take good care of her, Chandler. Everybody doesn't know this but she is fragile. You just always see her as a strong profile but she can be easily broken." He told.
Chandler look again in Monica's direction and nodded, "I know." He whispered.
He knows. He can see her through like clear glass.
"I'm glad, you know and I'm counting myself on you, boy," patting his shoulders, "Let's come in. It's freaking cold out here," Jack then said as he hurried himself inside.
Chandler chuckled, "I'll come in later, Mr. Geller." He said but Jack was already inside.
He looks above the sky and looks at the stars "I swear in every star Monica... that I will never hurt you..." He mumbles as the stars above him continue to tinkle and shine.
Her parents already went home, same goes with the others who have early shifts tomorrow. But Chandler stayed to help Monica clean in the kitchen, "Hey, you can head back to your apartment. I can do this, it's only a few messes." She said, washing the dishes as she saw Chandler wiping the table.
"No, It's okay. I want to help. I'm not that tired anyway," He replied. Going to the sink, putting the cloth beside her. "You. Should get some rest and I'll continue that," He said, already grabbing the plate from her hands and pushing her away from the sink. She looks at him, surprised, "Well, I'm not that tired anyway," saying the same replied as him.
He chuckled, finishing off the plates as Monica continues to stare beside him, smiling, remembering their earlier discussion in her room. She can't believe how sweet he's being was, comforting her about her mother.
The pregnancy news didn't go out well but her mother apologizes for the way she acted and Monica confronted her about that, Why is she being mean and so critical to her. And Chandler was right, it's because she went the same thing with her mother.
Anyway, She and her mother talk and something that they talked about kept repeating in her head
"Sorry, for the way I acted, again." Her mother said, holding her hand.
She smiled, "It's okay, Mom. I understand."
Judy sigh and look over the window, where his husband and Chandler are, "So, are you two getting married?" She asked.
Monica's breath hitched, "No...and we're not getting together..." she trailed out, her mom looks at her, surprised, "Really?"
"Yeah, why?" she looks at her, confused and realized, "Oh Mom please don't push me into marrying him because—"
"No. I won't..." She trailed out, and Monica looks at her incredulously, "But it's better if you two—"
"Mom!"
"Okay. Okay... I'll stop, but it just seems like that boy likes you," She said and Monica looked in the window where Chandler is, he suddenly looks at her and she smiled at him.
She sighs and went back to her mother, "I know..."
"You know then why aren't you saying anything?"
"We talked about it and I said to him that we can't let our feelings ruined what we have. We're best friends and if we got together then something happens...—I don't think I can forgive myself for letting him go."
"Wait. Our feelings? you like him too?"
Monica softly nodded, "and you're not getting together?" and she she shakes her head.
Her mother sigh, "Monica, before your father and I got together, he was my best friend but one day, my other friend told me that he likes me. At first, I didn't believe it so I went and talk to him about it and he told me that it was true. I was stunned, of course. We've been best friends for many years... well 4 years and one day I told him that we can't. We can't destroy what we have and he was so sad about it. Then a few months later, I saw him going out with another girl and you know what happened?"
Monica thought it for a while, "You pulled out the girl's hair?" She reluctantly answered.
Judy chuckled, "No, I wasn't that violent back then. No. but what happened was, suddenly there's this some kind of churn went into my stomach, and my heart was shattering. And first I was in denial about it, that it was only temporary thing and then they started to date a week after that and I can't help it anymore. So I talked to your father again and asked him if he still likes me. He was so confused that day and when I told him that I like him back, he was shocked but rejected me after."
"Dad rejected you?!" She exclaimed, "Then how did you guys got together," She was now intrigued by the story.
"Well, three days after that, he went to my house. My mom that time always makes me go and clean up my bedroom," Monica chuckled, "and he sneaks into my bedroom window and told me that he doesn't like me but loves me."
Monica gasped, "That is so sweet!"
"Yeah, it was... Monica, I told you this story so that you can change your mind about Chandler,"
"Mom—"
"I'm not pushing you through marriage. I just don't want you to get hurt if Chandler meets another woman and doesn't know he's slowly hurting you." She sincerely said.
Monica sigh, she doesn't like that too. She imagines Chandler with another woman and making her laugh. She winced by the thought of that.
Judy grabs Monica's hand and softly strokes it, "If we deny love that is given to us and refuse to give love because we fear loss, then our lives will be empty," She mumbled and Monica looks at her, her eyes start to glistens.
"I don't love—"
"You're just saying that now, Monica...but it's your decision anyway, I'm not going to push you through it." She softly said and giving her a hug.
She buried her face in her neck, it's the first time she got this feeling with her mother and it was overwhelming. She hugs her tightly, not wanting to let her go, "And don't tell Ross about the story, he doesn't know that," She mumbles.
Monica pulled slightly away, "Really?"
She nodded, "Yeah, and you know I love you like the same amount as him and I'm sorry if I only focus all my attention at him." Tucking her hair behind her ears.
"That's okay, mom. I understand..."
"Of course you do..."
She chuckled, "Thank you, Mom..."
"No problem, Honey..."
"If we deny love that is given to us and refuse to give love because we fear loss, then our lives will be empty,"
"Monica, stop staring at me! What's with everybody today and staring at me weirdly?"
Monica snapped backed into reality and nervously laughed, "Maybe there's something appealing about you." She teased.
"I doubt that," He said as he finished, washing the dishes, and wiping his hand off. "So how did it go with your mother?" He asked, looking at her.
"Well, she said she was sorry and she only did that because her mom did the same to her."
"So I was right?"
"Yes, you're right Sherlock. Anyway, she told me the story about her and dad, which was kinda romantic,"
"What kind of story?" Rasing his eyebrow. "Oh, just there get together story."
"Oh yeah, tell me." He said, moving themselves over the couch, "Well it's kinda long but she said that they started off as friends and—" She stop mid sentence and realizing the flow of the story. Chandler looks at him confused, "and?..."
"Huh? Nothing. Nothing. I just forgot already the... story..." She lied as she softly rubbing her forehead.
Chandler sighs, already knows what she was going to say and Monica just didn't want to say it, "and they got together and got married...?" He trailed out and softly gaze at her eyes.
"Yeah..." Smacking her lips together as she stares back at him. They stared at each other and For just a moment it felt like they were the only people in the world. Monica felt herself leaning in against him and Chandler closed his eyes.
Are they gonna do this? Did Monica already made her decision about them?
Monica felt his breath against her, when Chandler suddenly stands up, "I think it's late, I better head back now." He muttered as he moves towards the door, "Goodnight Monica, I'll see you tomorrow,"
"Goodnight—" She been cut off by Chandler closing the door behind him, "Chandler..." She sigh.
Why does she always make things awkward, she thought.
Meanwhile Chandler heads back to his apartment, thinking what happened earlier and How Monica was leaning in against him. He stopped before anything else happen. He doesn't want her to regret if something happens, so he stopped. He miss her so much. He misses her lips and everything but he promised Monica that he will never do anything to her that will ruin there friendship.
He just needs to get over her soon... it's gonna be a long run but he needs to.
For Monica...
