Disclaimer: I do not own Revali or Link or any of the Zelda characters nor do I profit from these stories. They are just for Funzo.
A/N: So today I sat on the roof at the top of Link's fireplace? Anyway I sat on top of that today and just looked out and thought, what would it look like in the midst of spring. What flowers would bloom? Would there be hills of gold? I'm not sure but if there is, oh man it would be so lovely to just sit and look around the landscape. To just enjoy the view and watch as life goes on, to breathe in that sweet clean air. How peaceful it would be, then I ruined it as Link slowly walked off the edge, all thanks to that lovely joycon drift issue. Thanks Link, such a pal.
I do imagine Revali could see quite a bit more, considering his vantage point from the Divine Beasts tail and how high it would sit.. when compared to the house so that is that. Minor note, I didn't know what else to call the raspberry, 'cause I dunno what they would call it in the Zeldaverse.

Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together
Forests of Green and Hills of Gold
=~;~=
Revali woke before Link, he made his way out to the tail and was struck by the scene before him. Sprawling forests lay below and what appeared to be a large stone building being built on a land below that. He also noticed a pack of bokoblins on a far ridge, a single moblin standing behind them. It wasn't long before they disappeared into the woods and his attention wandered to the animal life, everything was so green and lush with life here. He could see why the Hylians lived here, could see why Link's parents had lived here even. As a Rito he preferred colder climates, mostly because he was adapted to it but would that really be what is best for his mate? Perhaps they could live somewhere less cold, maybe.
As he peered around he suddenly spotted an entire hill, it looked gold in the early morning light. It wasn't a trick of the light either, he could see the whole thing sway apart in places. Flowers, yellow in color swayed on that hill and perhaps even the hill beyond it. He turned to look around the village, from his vantage point he could see the whole of it and early villagers tending their farms. It was a quaint little village, the people seemed nice as well at least from the few he had seen the day prior. Though there was a couple whom had eyed him suspiciously, openly displaying their distrust in any new faces. Only the older hylians had appeared that way of course, those who did not like change he assumed. A yawn drew his attention away from the village, to spy his mate joining him.
"Did I wake you?" he asked.
"No, well yes," Link said. "I woke up all alone." The smaller male suddenly leaned into him and he stroked the other male's hair.
"Oh, I see," He whispered. "You were lonely then. This view, is this why your parents lived here?" There was silence for a while, he wondered if Link knew the answer but his patience was rewarded when the silence finally broke.
"Yeah, mom loved the hills of gold," Link replied. "Even though it was just yellow flowers, she still loved them." Another yawn and soon Link was burying that face into his plumage muffling his next words. "Come back and sleep." He chuckled at that, there was no way he could sleep at this moment.
"I can't, the sun is up and this is the time for us to be active," Revali teased. "Besides I want to see that lab."
"The Hateno lab?" Link asked, he looked to see the other was now peering up at him.
"Yes, we have some time before that carpenter finishes the project I gave him," Revali answered. "And I wish to ask about those pictures."
"But it's just barely morning," Link groaned, sounding more like a stubborn child then an adult.
"Honestly, how did you keep up with your knightly duties like this?" Revali teased, lightly. Link blew him a raspberry for his efforts. He smiled briefly at the childishness, he wondered if he could get more expression from his beloved. So far he had discovered quite a bit of Link's personality, even a slightly childish side and a lazy side. Revali was glad for it, considering that all he had seen was the serious warrior side before all of this. He couldn't help but find the other male to be quite adorable, in that moment. "Come, I will let you sleep but I have other things I wish to do in village."
"No, I want you with me," Link complained. He chuckled at that, it was then that an idea sparked to life.
"Very well then you will just have to join me," Revali replied. He then stepped away and leapt from the tail, easily soaring through the air. He looked back to see the dismayed look on his beloved Hylian's face, he was certain the other male would forgive him eventually. He landed and made his way to the bridge, he was almost certain the other male was going to give up at this point but was pleasantly surprised when Link joined him. Link wasn't complaining either, instead the other male opted for silence before another yawn interrupted it. Then Link was leading the way around the village, he greeted the other male's friends or maybe they were just the folk that Link knew in the village. It was a small village, so perhaps everyone knew everyone here.
"It's a long walk to the lab," Link finally said, his words punctuated by another yawn. The hylian warrior did, at the very least, stay upright and awake during their walk.
"Why are you so tired this morning hmm?" Revali asked as they walked.
"I don't know, I didn't get much sleep last night and I woke up every time I tossed or turned," Link whispered. "I maybe woke up seven times? Maybe more, the dreams weren't really any better I suppose."
"What did you dream about exactly?" Revali asked. Link turned an interesting shade of red but didn't answer, was the other male embarrassed? He heaved a sigh but didn't press any farther, it was clear the question had made his beloved uncomfortable. Or maybe he couldn't say because he wanted it to come true? He remembered Link's words about nightmares, was what Link had not a nightmare then? It was then he realized they were heading up a very steep road, that had been cut into the mountain. Some of it looked purposeful but it soon evened into a more natural road that followed the odd landscape. There was a couple of buildings, well a farm house and some other cottages along the way up but nothing that looked like a lab. He looked farther up to spot an oddly shaped house all the way at the top, still it didn't really look like a lab but what did he know?
He wasn't certain what the lab should look like, though the Akkala lab hadn't seemed like a lab either but it was called one. The Akkala Lab was an old fortress that had been nearly demolished, during the calamities assault on Hyrule, he had been there at least once prior to the destruction. It looked ruined and mostly abandoned now, he wondered if Robbie had moved from there or not or if the King was funding any project to rebuild it. It seemed a waste to let a fortress go to rubble, especially if it was still serviceable as it had appeared. Link stopped before the oddly shaped house at the very top of this odd, yet seemingly natural formation of rock. Purah answered and her expression went from one of annoyance to glee.
"Hey, good to see you back around my lab," she said, opening the door widely. "So what can I help you with?"
"I wanted to ask about the pictures," Revali said. "How did you take them from here, to well outside of here." He was brandishing the shiekah slate, Link took a seat nearby and looked for all the world to be trying not to yawn but failing.
"Oh, oh.. wait since when were you interested in the shiekah slate?" she asked. "And why are you both here? don't you two hate each other?" He was surprised Purah wasn't informed. "Something about a huge rivalry or some such.."
"I take it the princess hasn't informed you," Revali said. Purah suddenly looked surprised and rushed to the desk, throwing papers everywhere and some fluttering to the floor.
"I totally forgot to read that message thanks for reminding me," Purah said pulling up an officially sealed letter. She opened it and skimmed through it before her eyes widened, then she smiled and bounced from one foot to the other in excitement. "You two got hitched?"
"Hitched?" he asked.
"Sorry married I mean, oh that's so cute but how did that happen?" Purah asked. "Last I knew you were still, no offense but you were.. and Link was the target of your ire." Revali sighed inwardly but chose to sit at an offered chair and explained everything that had happened. "Oh, wow well at least you two are happy now. I am pretty much married to my research at this point, so you asked about pictures because of the picture you found of all of you? The one that I took. That picture was a printing experiment turns out it's actually really easy to do, I can totally print you out others but I can't do it for free. We don't have a lot of funding for research like we used to, so I will have to charge you for every picture."
"How much?" Revali asked.
"Oh only 100 rupees but you have to get someone to make the frames," Purah said. "And those can get costly but we do have a resident carpenter who has made one before, so I'm sure that won't be an issue."
"The carpenter Joal correct?" Revali asked.
"Oh so you've already met him! That will make things easier for you then," Purah said. "Anyway if that's all you wanted to know then I need to get back to my research."
"Yes thank you, I will return to get that picture printed soon I hope," he replied.
"I look forward to it!" Purah said striking a cute pose. She then got around to collecting, what could only be research notes, from the floor and mumbling something about needing an assistant. Link led him back down the path but he pulled the other to a stop.
"I'll carry you back and we can rest for a bit," Revali replied, he was concerned that Link seemed to have such little energy this morning. It wasn't completely out of the ordinary but it was unordinary enough for his concern. Link nodded and he offered his back, once the other male was holding on tight he flapped his way into the sky with a brief running start. Their already high altitude and the steep decline making the transition much easier, not to mention the steep drop off making a perfect take off point. He flew all the way back to Vah Medoh and carefully landed on the tail but instead of letting Link dismount he carried the other into their nest and let him flop into it. His hylian was almost immediately asleep even before he climbed in, he stroked the other male's head and ran his wing along Link's face. He didn't fall asleep, couldn't fall asleep and the restlessness soon made him rise again.
This time he took his bow and made his way outside, he frowned not really finding any suitable targets. Then his eyes spotted the large apple tree behind the house. Of course the apples weren't in a suitable place but he could arrange them somewhere better. He flew down swiping a few apples from the tree before looking around for a suitable location. It wasn't' long before he found a decent clearing and placed the apples in several locations, he opted for regular arrows so he would not do harm to the forest. He flew up but without the helpful updraft of the flight range he knew it would be even more challenging than it usually was. He grinned of course he was up for any challenge, he had been training for years for this very moment. Well not this moment precisely but a similar one, where he would need to utilize all of his strength and agility to face off with a foe.
He looked down from high above easily spotting the three easiest apples, with apples being a smaller target he would have to hit them precisely. He dove then pulled up, pulling his bow and shooting the first three arrows then swooped around, the clearing was much smaller than flight range and not as deep either. Not to mention he wished to stay in the air for the duration as he whirled around the tight space locating the other apples then flying up and shooting through the leaves at where they should be. This was new, shooting at hidden enemies was one thing he hadn't practiced. The trees leaves offered a lot of coverage as well, a startled cry caught his attention and he landed in the clearing. He notched an arrow at the startled bokoblin that stood there with an apple that had an arrow in it. The creature made a surprised noise, dropping the apple and running off.
Revali sighed picking of the apple, he removed the arrow and placed it in his pouch before counting up all of the apples, he had hit removing arrows and placing them away as well. He had missed two, thanks to the cover of the leaves but then looked to the direction the bokoblin had fled. He summoned his gale and flew high into the air before scanning the area, a blur of red ahead of him was a telltale sign of it's course. He flew after it at a distance, until it stopped at what appeared to be a campsite. There were other bokoblins, a moblin and a small, dirty hylian child. He landed in the campsite startling the bokoblins and moblin who all stood up.
"You dropped this," Revali mentioned pulling out the apple. The bokoblin from before walked over and took the offered apple before making an excited sound and giving it to the child. "Bokoblins and a moblin, taking care of a hylian child hm?" He looked to the child and asked gently. "Who are your parents?" She shied away but didn't answer, he wondered if she even understood any language. One of the bokoblins were sniffing at his pack, so he pulled out some more of the apples and handed them out. If they were taking care of this child, then they couldn't be all that bad.
One of the bokoblins made some noises at her and she made similar noises back, it was then he realized that she probably couldn't understand hylian. He wasn't sure what to do at that moment, he couldn't just leave her but he couldn't take her with him either.
"There is a village nearby, if you creatures really want her to be take care of, you should leave her with them." The moblin seemed to be peering at him oddly before appearing to nod then pointed off to the single fort, that was clearly being rebuilt below. Revali pointed in the actual direction of the village, "That way actually." The moblin nodded, it picked her up and started off with the bokoblins in tow. Revali followed but the creatures stopped short before saying something to her, she growled a response in a very child-like manner but the moblin was firm with her. Revali followed as she made her way toward the village, she suddenly grabbed his wing as they continued.
"Hey that's that Orphan that went missin'," someone whispered nearby. A woman suddenly approached him from the gossiping crowd, she took the little girl's hand and ran a thumb over the dirt encrusted digits.
"How did you find her?" the woman asked, gently.
"She was deep in the woods scrounging for apples. I was making a quick, maneuvering flight in a clearing when I spotted her," he lied, he couldn't very well tell the villagers that a moblin and several bokoblins had taken care of her. The little girl looked at him with a glare and he chuckled at her. "She was with a tribe of monsters as well, they were all looking for food together."
"So it's true," the woman said. "We were worried some monsters were out there snatching little kids in the woods but you said they were just together looking for food?" He nodded. "I wonder why they changed."
"Monsters don't change," One old man in the crowd said. "That moblin out there and his band of bokoblins are a nuisance, they steal our crops at night."
"Oh shut it Bern, they left a big ol' pile of wood for us that kept us warm the whole winter," An old lady piped in. "They're harmless and always have been, even when the calamity showed up."
"Wait they were this way before the calamity?" he asked.
"Yeah, stealing our crops," The old man said. The old woman walloped him one, then began griping at him.
"Well, anyway I'll take care of this little one," the woman said leading the little girl away, the little hylian was regarding him a bit differently now. Perhaps his made up story sufficed for the little one.
"A kid snatcher," Bern argued with his old lady.
"Selfless creature," she argued back. Revali shook his head before making his way back to Vah Medoh, he wasn't sure what had compelled him to stay his arrow. Maybe it was surprise, maybe it was because the other creature hadn't been armed or hadn't even tried to fight. Honestly, the world was changing around them and monsters simply weren't behaving like monsters now anyway. He flew up to Vah Medoh and made his way into their nest, he smiled as he saw that Link was still fast asleep despite having changed position. He looked over the other male and noted something missing, he walked forward just to be sure he wasn't imagining it. No the other male was definitely missing a key part of his anatomy, the family jewels to be precise.
"Was this what the great fairy did?" Revali whispered to no one. "And for what? Link what have you done?" He wasn't angry but rather, he was very worried about the implications of this drastic change. What else was supposed to change over the course of the week? He wasn't sure but he also wasn't quite sure whether he liked it, or would like it that is. He pulled the blankets back into place, covering his mate and went back out to the tail to think. Which he did for a while, pondering over the why of it all. Wondering why Link hadn't spoken with him about it. Was it a secret of the great fairy as well? Did she tell Link not to say anything? Maybe he too, should wait to talk about this.
Later that afternoon Revali retrieved the box from Joal, inspecting the other's handy work and paying for it. It was fine craftsmanship, for a hylian at least and it would work well for his dishware as well. He flew back to Vah Medoh with it and packed away his own dishes inside. Link was still asleep, so he ventured up to the top of Vah Medoh!
