I re-read my chapters and I'm sorry for my mistakes and grammar...I don't usually proofread before I post it but I hope you still like my story ;(
Anyway, I think you'll be confused by the last part but I know you'll get it.
Enjoy!!
They now arrived in Las Vegas also knows as Sin city. The city was full of glamorous and colourful lights, with Elvis's songs playing in the background. The gang couldn't be more excited to get to Caesar's palace, the place they're going to stay in. Rachel already brought some party dresses, expecting to find someone here, same with Joey. Phoebe on the other hand brought dozen and dozens of coins. She said to them that she's just going to sit on the slot which Ross give himself an idea to come with Phoebe.
Chandler and Monica went to Chandler's Father's job place, called Viva Las Gaygas all-male burlesque. As they waiting for the show, Chandler keeps fidgeting in his seat, and Monica noticed it, "Are you okay their Squirmy?" rubbing his arm.
She knows his relationship with his father was kinda...well... humiliating. He doesn't have a wonderful childhood and he blamed half of it on his father.
"I think this isn't a good idea, Mon... What if he doesn't want to see me?" rubbing his knuckles.
"Why doesn't he want to see you? You told him that you are here right?"
Chandler avoids her eyes, wincing at her question and Monica continue to stare at him, "Chandler. You told him right?" clenching her teeth.
He let out a breath, "No—I don't want him to know that I'm here yet." He replied.
"Why?"
"I don't know if I've told you this, but...Uhm..he's kinda tried to get in contact with me a lot over the last few years," Scratching the back of his head, and Monica gasped, "What?!"
"Look don't judge me okay. It's hard to have a father that you didn't have a childhood with and slept with some houseboy that soon you'll find out at the age of 9, that's the reason of your parent's divorce,"
Monica sigh. She doesn't judge him, she actually understands him. She knows what he had been through with his father about how he was a nightmare to him when he was a kid.
She holds his hands, "Chandler, I understand you but he's your father—" he scoffed, "I know half of your childhood ruined because of him but if you don't tell him that you're going to have a baby... then you completely just lose your connection with him when he tries to bring it back." He drops his head down as Monica continues to talk, "I know deep inside you still want to talk to him after all the things he has done to you. Just follow that feeling Chandler because I don't want you to regret this for the rest of your life..." She finishes.
Chandler looks up at her. As much he wants to protest back, she was right. It's his father after all. The man who helped him grow into a better man. Even after his parent's divorce, he continues to come to his school and asked him how was his day, and support him during his competitions.
"You're right...Okay, But I'm just doing this for you." He said and Monica's face turns into a victory smile, "Yes!"
"So I never really got to win anymore?"
"How much did ever really win before? And even you refused I was going to use the man slave card again and stop being such a whiney and just talk to your father but I can't force you to do that so..."
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot the two months being your man slave. You know Mon, I'm game if the meaning of that word was the other way around." He said, wriggling his eyebrows at her. Monica gave him a death glare which Chandler become scared, "At least you tried, Bing," he said to himself making Monica chuckle.
The show starts, "Here we go," and suddenly a man was shown on the stage but his back is the only thing you can see.
"Ladies and gentlemen please welcome the incomparable Helena Handbasket!" The announcer exclaimed.
The people applause as Helena Handbasket turns around with a bright smile on his face, "Hello Darlings,"
"And there's daddy," Chandler said, grumpily while Monica look at his dad with full astonishment.
Chandler hid under his hand as his dad performs on the stage while Monica was thrilled by his performance.
"Chandler looks at him, he's amazing!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands at the same beat of the song, nudging her elbows at Chandler.
"I'd rather not." Taking a sip of his beer, ignoring his father on the stage and kept his focus on Monica, who was having a good time on his father's performance. She's smiling at him, swaying her body side by side and singing to the song that is currently playing which is Raining men. The neon lights gleam around her face as he continues to stare at her beauty.
At this moment, he knew he couldn't replace her. These feelings were getting stronger and stronger to the point his heart starts to get hurt.
Monica looked at him and smile. She unexpectedly grabs his chin and made his head turn to the stage, "Look at him, He's amazing!" She said. Chandler didn't look at his father, he was stunned by the sudden touch of her skin to his face. When finally he looks up to his father, finishing his performance.
"That can't be your father. He's too amazing"
"Good thing his son isn't here for him to hear that." He said in a monotone.
She slightly nudges him as his body electrifies, "You're amazing too." She said, winking at him.
He slightly blushes and they carry on watching the show, "Hello! And welcome to the show. I see some of our regulars in the audience. And a couple of irregulars." As he went down to the audience.
Chandler starts to Panic since they were in the second row, "He's coming into the audience. He's coming into the audience." He said, panicky.
"Relax! You'll be fine," Monica assured him as he scoffed and turn off the table light in front of him, "Oh much better. You're invisible now." She joked.
His father went to different persons; interviewing them where they live. Chandler starts to freak out even more. He told Monica to let him meet outside the door but when he stood up to leave, his father spotted him.
"Oh look, a standing ovation already! So early in the show. Oh turn around honey; let me see your pretty face." He said in a slightly flirtatious tone.
Chandler winces for a moment and slowly turns around. After a few seconds, his father recognizes him, "I'm just going to pee later." He mumbles, resigning himself to his fate as he quickly sits back to Monica on the chair, flicking the table light, on and off, nervously.
"What's your name, boy?" He asked, pointing the mic to his son.
"Chandler," He muttered.
"Chandler. What an unusual name! You've must've had terribly fascinating parents."
"Oh, they're a hoot," He replied as his father went to Monica, "And who is this wonderful beautiful girl beside you?" Taking Monica's hand, guiding her to stand up.
"I'm Monica" She trillingly said, her fat self taking over her. "I'm Chandler's —Uhm...Friend..." She trailed off, taking a glance at Chandler who smiled at her.
His father examines her for a minute and notices the bump into her clothing, "Oh look what we have here, she has a person growing inside of her. How far are you along dear?"
"I'm 3 months." She said, putting her other hand to Chandler's shoulder signing up to stand up too. He stands up, "Actually, Monica and I...are having a baby..." He reluctantly said and his dad looks at him confused and shocked, "What?"
"We're having a baby together..." He trailed out, staring at his father's eyes for a moment. "Oh, Good for you then...—Anyway! Let's go back to the show," He said, his voice slightly breaking as he went to the stage, Chandler softly grabs his arm, "Can we talk later?..." He whispered and he looks at him and nodded. As he lets him go and sit at the table again with Monica.
"Before we go on to the show. I just want to say to the becoming parent that I know that your going to be wonderful parents soon and how lucky for you to start your family on your own" He wished them and they both gave him a thankful smile as the show went on.
Chandler finally took a breath of relief, that was tense he thought. He didn't expect that it will turn out good but they're going to resume their conversation later, after the show. He looks beside Monica, without her he wouldn't have the courage to done it and said that to his father. He's thankful that she was here to support him and convinced him to do it.
He grabs her hand and covered it with his, "Thank you for doing this with me Mon and convincing me to do it," He said softly. Monica gave him a smile, "You're welcome. I'm happy to be here, always," She replied.
The show was finish and they head backstage, looking for his father. He met his father's friends in the hallway and stopped when they saw Chandler, "Wait! Aren't you Helena Handbasket's son? Chandler Bing?" One of the boylesque said.
Chandler's breathe stiff, "Uhm...—yes. Yes, I am," He replied casually, standing beside Monica
"Yeah! You're father always talked about you, he always said that he has a son in New York and he can't wait to see him but he said that you're always busy."
Chandler drop down his head, ashamed and Monica noticed it and rubs his back comfortingly. She knows that he wasn't unavailable, he just doesn't want to see his dad and talk to him, "Yeah..." Chandler trailed off.
"Good thing you visited him here! He was very happy when he saw you in the audience. I hope you can attend again tomorrow," after that last remark, the person left.
After a few silence, Chandler finally talks, "He talked about me...he talks about me here and I'm the most selfish, snob person in the world for not talking to him once." He said.
Monica strokes his arm, "Chandler you're not selfish. You had your reasons... Don't ever think of yourself like that. You're here now anyway to talk to him and God, has given you a second chance," She said.
Chandler scoffed, "If it weren't for our news that you're pregnant. I will not be here right now, I'll be in the apartment still ignoring his calls."
"Chandler!" She hissed and Chandler slightly flinches, "Stop being stubborn. Even I am not Pregnant, you will going to call him because he is your father and I know you're not a jerk. I know you still have a soft spot for him after all, you said to me that he was your favourite superhero when you were a kid." She teasingly said at the last remark.
"Mon, my favourite superhero is Batman and it scares me that you know me so well." He said, and Monica shrugs her shoulder as his father walks down the hall.
Chandler composes himself, straightening his body. His father stops in front of him and cleared his throat, "Chandler..."
"Dad..."
Well, this is awkward, Monica thought.
Monica stood still in her place, thinking whether to leave them both alone or stay, "Uhm...maybe I should leave you two alone—"
"No." Chandler quickly answers, "I mean, no. I don't want you to be walking around especially these too many people." Chandler said, giving her a pleading look.
"Sweetie, why don't you go with my friends to my room they're very hospitable people. Chandler and I will just talk here for a while," Helena said to Monica.
She looks at Chandler's approval and he softly nodded, "Okay...call me when everything is finished, okay," She said to Chandler as she went inside Helena's room.
Silence took over them for a second, this is awkward between the both of them.
"Hey..."
"Hey..." They both said at the same time.
They both awkwardly chuckled ad they wait for it to stop, "You go, first," Chandler said.
Helena took a deep breath, "It's nice to see you again," He said, unexpectedly giving him a hug that surprises Chandler. After a few moments, he returns the hug, "It's good to see you too...dad..."
Chandler spends hours talking to his dad. He was surprised that he was doing a lot better here than when he was in New York. His dad added that the time he was calling from New York was the only free time he got and he was in there so he took his chance but Chandler made a lot of excuses to get away from meeting him.
Chandler was terribly sorry for the way he acted towards him, but the old man was happy to see him again here. He invited Chandler and his friends for his tomorrow's show and Chandler happily agree since they will be only spending 3 days here in Vegas.
After they finished talking, Chandler called out Monica from his father's dressing room and he was shocked by her now current state. She was wearing a make-up that is so bold with a red shade of lipstick, "Thank you for the makeover guys," She said through the door then turning her head to Chandler and she suddenly jumps up and down, "Look what they made to my face, isn't it beautiful," She said like a child.
Chandler stifle his laughter, she was beautiful but seeing her wearing too much make-up bother him, "What do you think?" She asked.
Chandler cleared her throat, "What I think is that I don't know whether your my father or my mother," He quipped.
Monica glares at him and smacks his chest, starting to walk away from him, "I'm sorry. I think it's beautiful, there I said it," Chandler said, stopping her before she escape.
"Really?"
"Really. But I prefer if you only wear light make-up," He said.
Monica looks at him, "Why?"
"Because I like your natural face better." He said with all seriousness.
Monica blushes at his statement but good thing she was wearing too much blush on to the point Chandler didn't even notice it. She shakes her head, "Anyway, how did you and your father go?"
They started walking, "Well, we're okay. Good. He invited us to go and watch the show again tomorrow...— he's doing a lot better here in Vegas than in New York and it kinda makes me happy."
"Why?"
"Because... Because I've never seen him this happy since our last meet. The last time I saw him like this, I feel like he was doing that for me because he feels obligated since I'm his child but after when he—when he left me, of course, I was sad but seeing him today, living a better life, doing something he really wants to do. Makes me happy." He said sincerely and Monica looks at him, surprisedly happy but her expression turns into a frown, "Chandler..."
Chandler keeps walking, "Hmm??" as she sighs, "Do you feel obligated by all of this?" They stop for a while, "What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean...Do you feel obligated to our situation?" She said, waiting for his answer intently.
Chandler looks at her for a minute and sigh, "No...yes?...maybe at first?— but now...No." He answered.
"Because...?" Monica trailed off.
"Because..." He looks at her for a moment, "...— I don't want to say," He quickly said and resume their walking.
"Wha—? What? Tell me, what is it?" She asked, desperate for his answer to her question.
"No." He said.
Monica grabs his arms, "Please. Tell me," She said. Chandler stops in front of her, "What about this... I'll tell you someday, is that okay?" He asked and Monica thought it for a while, "Hmm? Okay...but don't forget that okay, maybe you'll change your reasons," she mumbles, "Anyway I want ice cream." She said.
"Why do you always have cravings for Ice cream?"
"I don't know. Why? do you have a problem with that? I'm pregnant, you know!" She sternly said, "and as my man slave go buy me an ice cream."
"Why every time I become a slave, you always ask for ice cream," Chandler muttered.
Chandler's POV
"Dude, this place is awesome but kinda weird. The three boylesque over there already went on to me," Joey whispered to me and Ross as he sat down beside us.
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. This is weird taking the gang to my father's show but they never met my father so I don't have any choice. But seeing my dad on the stage makes me weirdly proud of him.
"Hey, Where are the girls anyway? Why are they taking so long?" Ross said.
"Oh, I think they still picking a dress to choose especially Monica because all the dress she picked out was kinda...small at her..." I said, squirming into my seat.
"And you know this, How?" Joey teasingly asked as me and Ross glares at him.
Someone went on the stage, "Uhm, we kinda have a technicality problem, please wait for another 10 minutes," The worker said.
My father suddenly walks towards us, "Hey, Ross, Joey meet my..." I cleared my throat, "Dad..."
"Hey, Mr. Bing,"
"Hello,"
They both shook their hands, "Don't kiss him like you kiss my mother, okay." I whispered to Ross who gave me a death glare and Joey tried to stifle his laughter.
"Anyway, what's wrong with the stage?" I asked.
"Oh, there's a problem with the lights." as he takes a glance around the room, "These people are kinda bored, maybe you can help me out?" He said to me.
I gave him an odd confusing look, "What?. What kind of help?"
"Since the show doesn't start for another 10 minutes, what do you say you do something on the stage," He said.
And I quickly shake my head, "No. No. No. I'm not doing that again. I'm not going to wear a raincoat and some rubber boots and dance "Raining men" on the stage again." I said and Ross and Joey laughs.
"No. Not that. Maybe you can sing a song. The last time I remember, you are a very good singer and you always sing when you were in middle school."
I smiled as he remember some memories of me. I shake my head, "No...That was years ago, and I was a kid back then. Parents will always be proud of their children singing even if it's off tone."
"Oh come on, Chandler! the place isn't even full yet. Last week ago, I heard you singing I will survive while you were showering in the bathroom," Joey said and I glare at him, "I mean no. That wasn't you,"
I sighed as I look up to my father who has a pleading look on his face, "Fine but this is going to be the last time I'm going to sing okay," I said to him and he nodded as he went backstage.
Joey and Ross patted my back and I grumpily went to the stage, It was barely even people in the room like Joey said. I took a deep breath and suddenly a familiar song wanders around the room. It was of course an Elvis Presley song, Can't Help Falling In Love~. I groan at the choice of the song.
Why did they even pick this? I thought.
Joey and Ross cheered from the table, "Woo!" and I shush them up and I close my eyes, taking a deep breath and started to sing the first lyrics,
"Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?"
Singing the first lyrics, I suddenly thought of Monica and I continue to sing huskily,
"Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
So, take my hand
Take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you,"
I close my eyes for a moment, understanding the meaning of the song. They should change it to some things aren't meant to be since some things don't work out the way you'd thought they would... Suddenly I feel like the colourful neon lights shine upon me.
"Like a river flows
Surely to the sea,"
I gradually open my eyes and I first caught in the audience was Monica. Monica, who was wearing a red dress, and light make-up just like I told her yesterday. The room suddenly brightens up the place now that she's here. I stand up straight and I only focus myself on her.
Trying to tell my feelings through the song.
"Darling, so it goes
Some things aren't meant to be"
And I swear I can sense my voice slightly breaking and I can feel her eyes start to form some tears even I'm far away from her.
"But Take my hand
Take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you~"
Saying the last chorus with all my heart.
"For I can't help falling in love with you~"
And I gaze at her attentively, swallowing the lump on my throat. The world suddenly stops and I leisurely walk off into the stage. My eyes never leaving at her and I feel her shallow breathing. Phoebe and Rachel slowly move away from her as tears streams across her cheeks.
I was now in front and we both gaze at each other's eyes. I gently cup her face, wiping the tears across her face as I trail my thumb onto her lips, "I can't help falling in love with you Mon," I mumble and she softly smiled, "I can't help falling in love with you too, Chandler" She said and I leaned down, meeting my lips into hers and the world melted away. There were no second thoughts, no worries just love that embrace around us.
"I love you, Monica," I whispered and she softly smiled at me, "I love yo—"
...
My imagination completely shattered, snapping back from reality. The sudden applause by the audience conjured me up and I notice that I was still on the stage. I was so confused and I saw Monica hurriedly leaving the room, "And let's give an applause to Helena—"
"Excuse me for a second," I quickly said as I shoved my arm and ran off into the stage, passing through Phoebe and Rachel, catching up to Monica. After I exited, I glance around the room, looking for her figure. I groaned turning my head in different directions to find her, but I already missed her.
Time stood still as I stand frozen in my place, my heart crippling and there was nothing I could do about it. I love her to the point it hurts. It really hurts. Why do I have to fall in love with her?
