Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

Crime and Punishment

Link woke a little groggy but fully aware that he was alone in the nest, it was a little upsetting and maybe a little scary that the other male was not with him. He was glad that he at least felt rested unlike the last time he woke, how long had he slept? Link got up and quickly dressed, he felt a bit of itching where his sack had been but after a brief scratch ignored it. He knew the changes wouldn't be finished for a while and he really wanted to save the big reveal for when it was all finished. He ran his fingers through his hair and tied it back, as usual, then going out to try to find Revali. He checked out the tail of the divine beast, before making his way above and this was where he finally found the other male. His rito was staring at the village, watching the inhabitants. He approached but as he got closer the other male gave him an all too familiar look. He remembered it from some of their first encounters, he wondered if the other male was angry with him.

"Sorry I slept so long," Link apologized.

"It's fine," Revali replied, but it didn't sound fine by his tone. So his birdie was angry but was it with him or something else? He was about to ask, when Revali suddenly flew from the Divine Beast and he missed his chance to say anything at all. He sighed aloud, this was going to be a long trip.

Link shuffled from foot to foot, he really wanted to hug Revali but wasn't really sure that he should with the other still looking pretty angry about something. He half wondered if he had done something wrong without knowing it. The tension was so thick, he probably could have cut it with a knife. He sighed and looked around at the landscape, keeping one hand on his para-sail when they drew near. Revali didn't warn him but he was prepared for the updraft, he allowed it to carry him high above the divine beast. Once the beast was landed and it was straightened, he made his way to Revali.

"I have to go and see the chief," Revali said, simply. He didn't even have time to speak as the other flew off and down toward the village.

"He seems tense," Iki remarked, he was surprised that he wasn't the only one to notice.

"I noticed, I'll just have to ask him about it when he returns," Link replied. He sighed before gliding his way down to the village, the least he could do is get something to prepare for dinner. He made his way into the forest and caught a couple of the local fowl in the area, then made his way back to the village. He climbed all the way up to Vah Medoh and pulled out a few dried Hylian herbs, Rock-salt, Hylian Rice and vegetables that he would need to restock at some point. Link then plucked the pigeons and prepared them, before cooking them with the other ingredients. Then again, he could just get the Tabantha Wheat and try cooking with it, after all breaded anything did taste pretty good. Of course not just breaded meals but the wheat could be used for other dishes as well.

He then pulled out some Courser Bee Honey and some apples, he checked them over to be sure they were still good. He then made the honeyed apples, thankfully he wouldn't have to worry about them going bad as it was nice and cold at this elevation. He was a little worried about the food getting cold so he put them in the box and out of the wind, as he had seen Revali do many times. He then waited and waited, he wasn't sure how long he was made to wait but eventually he fell asleep.

Link jolted and smiled as he spotted Revali, then he noticed that it was nearly dark.

"Oh no the food's gone cold by now," Link fretted. Revali waved him off with a wing and he sat down beside the other male.

"It's actually not that cold," Revali replied, handing him a plate. "I see you also made dessert?"

"Yea," Link replied, a little embarrassed. "I thought we could use a little sweet treat." Revali nodded but didn't say anything, the tension was still there and he wasn't exactly sure how he could break it. He ate for a little while in silence, going over everything he could have done wrong. Was he too clingy yesterday? He wasn't sure, couldn't be sure of what he should do to fix this. Once he finished eating he purposely moved to run his hands through the other males feathers. He wondered if maybe the other had started to molt, maybe that was the reason for the silence. After a moment of this he watched as the other male closed his eye but he didn't really find any loose feathers. Revali suddenly sighed before pulling Link onto the waiting lap. He smiled as he continued to enjoy those soft feathers, even going a bit lower and smiling as the tension seemed to bleed out from the other male.

"Honestly," Revali murmured. He wondered if the warrior would talk with him a while, he was mildly surprised, when the other began to feed him some of the honeyed apple and intermittently eating it was well. "I will have to get up early tomorrow." He was going to ask why but was promptly fed a bit of the honeyed apple, it was almost as though the other didn't want him to speak. "The chief wasn't very happy with me, after all." Link held the other male, it was definitely his fault, if he hadn't dragged Revali around everywhere then.. "I can't say it wasn't worth it however." He jolted a bit and looked up as Revali finished the desert. "You were right, we did need a little sweet treat tonight." He smiled and then hung on for dear life as the warrior hefted him and brought him to the nest. Then Revali joined him before falling deep into the land of dreams, he didn't even have any time to add his two rupees to it.

He sighed before sneaking out of bed. He grabbed the dishes and placed them into the empty box, then used his para-sail to glide down to the waterfall. He rinsed the plates off, cleaning it of the food and then placed them back into the box. He climbed back up to Vah Medoh and took a few gasping breaths when he finally arrived. He wasn't used to the added weight of dishes, after all it had been while since he did any climbing with his pack anymore. Link carefully climbed back into bed and curled up to his mate, then finally fell back to sleep.

The next day he woke up alone once more and though he and Revali shared a couple of meals together, he was still pretty much on his own for the day. He was almost certain the other male was avoiding him but he couldn't be sure, as he had spotted Revali a few times while he went about his own busywork. After lunch he went to the flight range and ran into two familiar rito, he decided to get some practice and even handed over the feathers he had gotten from the last nights dinner.

"Oh thanks!" Nysh said, excitedly. "You wouldn't happen to have any spare time?"

"Of course I do," Link replied. "Did you want some help with these?"

"Please," Nysh answered. Link nodded and sat down getting right to work on the feathers, he remembered how to do it from last time. He looked up to spot Munsezo watching him briefly but he ignored that fact, focusing on his task.

"I'm surprised Revali isn't here," Link murmured, a little sad.

"He didn't tell you?" Nysh asked. He looked up at that noting Nysh' surprised look.

"The chief has been running him through task, after task," Munsezo suddenly replied. "He seemed unhappy about Revali's disappearing act. I didn't think he could get into trouble." Link felt a little guilty, it was technically his fault that Revali didn't go straight back to work like he was supposed to. He would have to apologize to Revali when the other returned tonight, he had to. Maybe he should go to the chief also, maybe if he could explain then maybe the chief would forgive Revali. He worked diligently until all of the feathers were cut, then he spotted the practice bow and the remaining arrows. There was enough for maybe one round of target practice, it probably wouldn't be enough.

"Hey your welcome to practice for a bit if you want," Nysh offered. Link smiled before grabbing the bow and remaining arrows. He did a round of target practice and then another to use up the remaining arrows from the previous round, after which he landed. He was breathing hard after the workout and really hadn't even done that much, it was about time to get back into shape if that was the case. He looked over to see the other two finishing up and chatting to low for him to hear. "Link wait," Nysh called after him as he was about to leave. "Do you want a lift back to the village? Munsezo is quite a strong flier and well you don't have wings so." Link smiled feeling a bit awkward, the other seemed quite certain that his friend wouldn't mind but the disinterested gaze told him otherwise. The darker male was definitely not on board, with the other male's plan.

"That's alright, I can make my own way back," Link replied.

"Aren't you worried about wolves?" Munsezo asked, in a flat tone. He wondered if maybe it was just a quirk.

"Not really, they usually leave me be," Link replied. "Besides I have no issues dealing with them." He placed a hand on his sword, proving he wasn't completely helpless. "Let me know if you ever need any more help with restocking." he then leapt off using his para-sail to glide down to the ground, then walking off toward the village. He was still debating about whether he would go and see the chief or not, he really didn't want to be the reason that Revali was in trouble. He had to go and at least speak with the chief, he was on his way up when he suddenly stopped by another familiar rito.

"Not planning to speak on your mate's behalf to the chief, are you?" Telnoss asked.

"I.." Link began, taken aback. "How did you know?"

"The determined look, or perhaps just a hunch," Telnoss replied. "Do not try to pin the blame on yourself, the chief does not like it when that happens and will often double punishments in response. Plus it would hurt Revali's pride, if you must go to the chief and wish him to look favorably on Revali simply ask how long his punishment will last. Deny trying to help him at all costs, he will surely forgive a Hylian their curiosity." Then the other male flew off, Link sighed but nodded and made his way up. He definitely didn't want to make things worse for Revali, nor did he want their relationship to suffer anymore than it already was. He would just have to apologize to Revali, maybe then they could patch whatever this was up and things could go back to normal. He made it very nearly to top only to spot the chief was out on one of the landings.

"Excuse me," He said, a bit softly as he was a little nervous. He didn't want to mess things up for Revali, after all.

"Yes?" the chief asked turning toward him.

"How long is Revali's punishment?" Link asked, a little bit braver than his previous words.

"You do not wish to renegotiate his punshiment?" The chief asked as though surprised.

"No, I just want to know how long it is," Link replied, careful to deny wanting to alter it even though he wished he could. Even just a little, the chief smiled a bit at that.

"One cycle of the moon," The chief replied. "You know, had he come back and simply informed me, there wouldn't be a punishment. But he made his choice, odd as he has been so rebellious of late." Link decided against making a comment, instead he thanked the chief for his time and made his way to begin his climb to Vah Medoh. He was unaware that he was being watched, the whole way up. He made his way into the divine beast and was surprised to see a plate and a note waiting for him. He picked up the rock that was weighing it down as he lifted the note. 'We need to talk' was all it said, he fretted a bit before enjoying the meal and sitting there with every intention of waiting. But his eyes grew heavy and soon he was fast asleep against the wall.

*intercept's* Hey guys looks like they missed each other at the end, also isn't it strange how helpful the other rito have been? Is it because they see him as disabled? Or maybe they just feel the need to help since Revali isn't around. Also that bit of information from Telnoss was surprising, I wonder how many newly-mated rito he has had to warn and how does he know? Hopefully next chapter will answer all of your questions, I mean my questions! Stay tuned to eventually find out more about some of the more elusive questions later on in this tail! See you all in the next chappie!
