hey hey! so its been well over ten years since i posted this gem, and its safe to say that i've grown a lot since then. I will be going over and revising this a little bit so it kind of resembles a little more adult in it. now, this isn't exactly a crossover, its mainly digimon adventure 02, but with aspects of digimon frontier. it won't make sense until you actually start reading it, but i hope you all like how i've redone this. so, without further ado, i only own my characters and ideas. and go:
...
On a perfect day of summer, the sun shone brightly. Birds chirped, flying from tree to tree, knocking down leaves while happily enjoying their play time. A nice breeze rustled the tops of the trees, making the outside look so inviting. Matt drummed his fingers on his desk as he looked at the tree. From where he sat next to the window, he was at tree top level. His head was in his other hand, his left hand, as he looked outside with longing. He sighed slightly, drumming his fingers once more. He shouldn't have come today.
School was nearly over, he would finally be free for the summer, back to his own devices. But the day itself seemed to be dragging on. He let out another inaudible sigh, prying his sapphire eyes away from the window. His teacher droned on, but Matt could not hear what was being said. A slight movement caught his eye, bringing his attention to Sora. He smiled at her, though she was oblivious to it, rapt attention in front of her. Himself and Sora have been dating for the last few months, ever since Christmas.
He remembered the day well, he was in the middle of preparing for the concert his band was practicing for all school year. She had interrupted, right before they were about to go on. She brought him cookies, admitting her feelings for him then and there. He was a little shocked, he had always suspected that she and his best friend Tai would end up together. But there she was, giving herself to him, and he was smart enough to accept. His relationship with Sora was utter bliss, especially now, a couple months after the digital world had been saved.
The portals were closed for now, digimon partners forced to stay in their own world. Izzy thought it was only temporary, but at this point it was hard to know for sure. And it didn't matter, Matt didn't want to think about it. The bell had rang, indicating that school was finally over for the year. Matt sprang up out of his seat, as well as a few others that were very eager to get out of what felt like prison the whole day. He gathered his things, packing them in his bag and then going to meet his girlfriend.
"Finally free," he said as he approached her desk.
"Until the next year," replied Sora, wrapping her school bag around her shoulders.
Matt smiled, "Don't ruin my fun already."
She smiled back a him, following him out the classroom door and into the hallway. There were kids everywhere, rushing to get out of school and start their summer. But Matt and Sora knew where to find at least one of their friends. They walked through the swarm of kids towards the computer lab. They knew that Izzy would be there, he seemed to live there most days. The two of them kept their eyes and ears open for Tai. But they weren't all that concerned, they knew their fearless leader would meet them at the rendevous point.
As they opened the door they saw their friend Izzy, deep in concentration in front of a computer. But he wasn't alone, there were a few stragglers still working on who knows what. Matt and Sora walked to stand behind Izzy. Matt wasn't particularly sure about what the red head was working on, but he was sure it had something to do with the digital world. Tai showed up just as the last student was leaving.
"Still haven't figured it out yet have you?" asked Tai as he walked up to them.
"No. There's no response from Gennai, and the portals won't open with the D3's anymore. We're completely cut off every since the last battle," replied Izzy, turning to face them from his computer chair.
"I'm sure everything is fine. The Darkness disappeared and the portals sealed up to heal. If there was a threat the new Digidestined would know about it," said Sora, trying to reassure the team.
"Yeah. But it just seems to odd to stay so cut off when the worlds are at peace."
"There was a lot of damage done to all the worlds involved. Sora's right, just give it some more time. If no one has been called back then there's nothing to worry about," said Matt.
"There's still something I can't quite figure out. T.k saw it too, a strange fairy looking digimon that flew above us when Oikawa sacrificed himself to seal away the darkness," said Izzy.
"A fairy looking digimon? That could be a lot of them," said Tai.
"This was unlike any I had ever seen before. I went through my entire database and there was no sign of it."
"Do you think it could be some kind of threat?" asked Matt.
"At first no. It seemed to be guiding Oikawa's spirit along, like it was the one with the power to grant him his final wish. But now with everything sealed off I'm starting to have second thoughts."
The room was silent after those words, the digidestined thinking on it. Matt vaguely remembered seeing a digimon like that. He supposed he would talk to his little brother about it later on. In the mean time, what could he really do? If Izzy and Yolei haven't figured it out yet, then there was absolutely nothing he could do to help. He wasn't as smart as they were with technology.
"Well, this is a boring start to the summer," said Tai, stretching his arms.
"Agreed. Let's go meet up with Joe and the others and start this off the right way," said Matt.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" asked Sora. The boys were silent, looking at her curiously. She smiled then, "Mimi's flight should be landing soon. I e-mailed Joe telling him to meet us at the airport. We can go out for dinner maybe tonight."
"Sorry guys, but I can't make it to dinner tonight. Maybe tomorrow would be better," said Matt as he lead the way out of the classroom.
"Too good for us?" Tai smirked.
"No. T.k and I promised our sister we would spend the night at her new house the first day of summer. The three of us are always together for the night."
"I forgot Amy moved," said Izzy.
"You've had your nose buried in a screen," Sora laughed. They had reached the outside of the school by now. The summer breeze blew, Matt taking a deep breath in.
"Well at least come to the airport with us to pick up Mimi," said Tai.
"I wouldn't dream of-"
"Matt!"
At the call of his name all the heads turned to see the source. It was a girl, slightly shorter than Matt, running towards them on the sidewalk. She had flaming red hair, with blond streaks flowing evenly along the mass, perfect ringlets. It reached maybe halfway down her back, it was hard to tell. She wasn't wearing a school uniform, having graduated last year. What she did have, were the same sapphire blue eyes that Matt owned. Which only made sense as she was his older sister.
"Amy?"
"I need the keys to dad's," she said, stopping in front of them, out of breath. She put her hands on her knees, trying to even out her breathing.
"Don't you have your own?"
"No, I left them in dad's car last night when he drove me home."
"Why do you need them?"
"I need the last few things from my closet."
"Can't you wait until later?"
"Seriously just give me the fucking keys and stop being difficult. You gotta get to the airport to meet up with Mimi."
"How did you know about that?"
"She called me last night asking about what she should do with her hair. Some days I wish I never let her know I had hair dressing abilities," replied Amy dryly. Sora smiled while Matt handed her his keys, "Thanks, I'll meet you back at my place. Tell Mimi I'll see her tomorrow," and with that she started to turn around, "Bye guys!"
Tai laughed, "Your sister never changes."
"No, she doesn't, does she?" Matt grinned.
"She was right though," said Sora, looking at her watch, "we better get going!"
…
T.k packed up the last of his clothes for the weekend. His sister had just moved into her own house, and he planned on spending the weekend with her. Finally an extra place to stay where he didn't have to worry about parents barging in on him when he was doing his digidestined things. Although his mother and father knew that he could take care of himself, He knew that they would prefer he didn't get involved. But at Amy's new house, they wouldn't be there to hover over their shoulders.
He had to figure out who that digimon they saw was. He was sure it was the reason that his D3 could no longer open the gate to the Digital World. He was sure he had seen that digimon before, when he had first faced Devimon years ago. And again later on when they fought Piedmon and Apocalymon. He sighed, he would have to wait until he could talk to his brother about it. He missed Patamon, but not only that, he was sure the others missed their partners as well.
Doing a final mental checklist, T.k closed the bag firmly, satisfied. He put his hat on and threw his bag over his shoulder, walking out of his bedroom and to the kitchen where his mom was just getting home from work.
"All set?" she asked, looking at him.
"Yup. Are you going to come see it?"
Nancy smiled sadly, "No I'm afraid not. Your sister has never really been my biggest fan."
"Still? I never heard the story on why."
"It's a long story. Maybe she'll tell you how I'm the wicked witch before bed."
T.k laughed, "I'm sure she'll get over it eventually. You two have come a long way since..."
Nancy smiled that same sad smile, "Perhaps... Maybe I will drive you there after all. I should have an idea of where you are just in case something happens."
"Mom, I highly doubt something bad will happen," said T.k.
"Oh you know what I mean. In case of emergency. Ready when you are."
…
Amy finished cleaning up the last part of her house. She didn't live anywhere fancy but between her work with her father at the television station and her bar tending she was able to afford a modest house of her own. It was the first time she had ever been alone, and she had a week of bliss not having to share her room with her brother. Her father couldn't really afford for them to have their own room, but that never bothered her. She loved her father, and would never be able to repay him for the life he gave her. Without her there then there would be more space for the two of them, and she could take care of herself now.
She sighed, sitting on her couch and putting her feet up on the table before her. She pulled out her laptop and opened it, now waiting for her brothers to come over. They always spent the first night of summer together, even after their parents broke up. Nancy wasn't her real mom, her real mom, Kiara, had died shortly after giving birth to her. There were too many complications, and she didn't make it. Amy had to be born a couple of months early because of the pregnancy. Some days she wished she could know her real mom, but it would never be.
Nancy was an old friend of her mom, someone that they didn't talk to much after she got married to her dad. They met at Serah's funeral, her dad unable to be there with the baby. But the two of them grew close, married, and had two children. Amy found out about eight years after she was born that Nancy wasn't her real mother. She classically overheard her parents talking about it. She remembered the hateful words of Nancy declaring that Amy wasn't her daughter and she didn't have to take care of her. It all went downhill from there, and the rift between the two got wider. They didn't start talking again, if only briefly, until that fateful night that they had all been reunited by the Digimon attack from Myotismon.
And while the family talked a lot, Amy found herself distant from them. She didn't belong, much like when they were all together when she was little. She figured she was like her mother, Kiara. But Amy was older now, on her own. She usually had more important things to worry about than her family life. She was too busy now.
She uploaded the software on her computer that was e mailed to her by a consultant. She would need it for later, after she was done with her brothers. Of course, she had to make sure that they didn't see it, so she hid it away. This whole business with the Digital world seemed to have them all glued to computer screens these days, and she didn't want them stumbling across something they ought not see.
She jumped at bit at a knock at her door. She closed her computer and then went to open it as the impatient buggers knocked again.
"About freaking time!" she declared, seeing Matt and T.k at her door. She moved so that they could get in, which left Nancy, someone she was not expecting to be here. She looked nervous, and Amy could only wonder why the woman had come.
"I just wanted to know where he was in case of emergency," Nancy said awkwardly, looking down at her feet.
"You could have just asked," replied Amy in her most neutral tone that she could muster up.
Nancy nodded, "He's already eaten, I wasn't sure when you were going have dinner, or if you had eaten."
"I know how to take care of people, Nancy, I don't need you to tell me," she was a bit harsher in that sentence.
The woman looked at her adopted daughter in alarm, but she closed her mouth unsure of what to say. This was one of their failed conversations, she was better off just staying in the car. She wasn't even completely sure what she was doing here. Finally, she just nodded, "Have a good night," she spoke sadly, turning to walk away before Amy could retort.
Amy watched her go, feeling a bit guilty. Sometimes she wished she could silence the monster of hate that lashed out at the poor woman. She really was trying to make things better, but Amy was so far into her self pity that she couldn't accept it. At least, not yet. She wanted to, but couldn't stop herself. She closed the door, locking it and putting it back from her mind. She turned around and noted that neither of her brothers had witnessed the scene, the two of them more interested in exploring the new place. She was thankful for that, they didn't need to be involved in her personal issues.
"Not bad," said Matt, coming down the stairs towards the living room.
"Be good for headquarters," said T.k.
"That is not why I moved here," she said, pointing one finger at him. He looked a little sheepish, "But yeah, I've already set up the basement for your Digital world things."
"Great!" they said together, both running downstairs. Amy sighed, grabbing some snacks and following them.
She supposed if they were that intent on getting started then there was probably something serious going on. The little buggers had already taken down her laptop. It was a good thing she kept them on their own program, she didn't need them sticking their nose where it didn't belong. T.k was at the desk in the chair, Matt on the couch. Amy sat on the other end of the couch, turning on the television. The sound was down, a newscaster relaying the daily news of the day.
"So what's the rush?" she asked absently.
"There's still no access to the Digital World," said Matt, grabbing her food and starting to eat it.
"Still?" she raised a brow.
"Yeah. T.k and Izzy thinks it was that fairy Digimon."
"Fairy Digimon?"
T.k turned around to face them, "She appeared right after Oikawa made his wish. His body disappeared and started to cleanse all the damage he had done. I remember seeing her, flying above. At first it looked like she was guiding his spirit, helping grant his wish. But ever since we've been cut off. I think it had something to do with her."
"I think you're seeing things. Your friend Izzy, Yolei and I catalogued all of them with Gennai. If you haven't seen it in there then that Digimon simply doesn't exist,"
"There's more..."
"More?" Matt chimed in.
"I know I saw this Digimon after we beat Devimon, the first time we went there. I thought I was seeing things then, but after this second time I know I saw her. She was there when we defeated Piedmon, and again with Apocalymon. She's been there this entire time, and I never thought to question it because she had never really done anything besides watch. But I know she has something to do with the worlds being sealed."
"Why didn't you mention this before?" asked Matt, frowning.
"If she wasn't hurting anyone then, why bother going after her now?" asked Amy.
"Because she might know why we can't get back to the Digital World. And I want to know why she's been following us all those years," said T.k.
"Maybe she's like.. a digidestined guardian or something."
"Hey isn't that dad?" Matt interjected.
They all turned their attention towards the t.v. They watched as their father was reporting on an unnatural hole that appeared in the ground near the airport. Matt grabbed the remote and turned up the volume so that they could hear what their father was saying.
"This just appeared out of nowhere sometime in the morning. Crews were sent into the hole to recover some sort of evidence as to what caused it and they have not returned. Fire and Rescue have lost all communications, and the closer you get, the more distortion appears with any sort of electrical or digital device. We can't be sure now of what is going on here, but we are being advised to stay from the area. All inbound flights have been diverted towards the nearest airport, but we are grounded here," he spoke in a very clear voice as the camera then left him and went towards the commotion. They could see all sorts of official vehicles and other newscasters in the area, all reporting on one thing.
"Mom would likely be there to," said Matt.
"Should we go check it out?" asked T.k.
"I doubt it's anything important," said Amy, taking her food back from her brother. But before she could eat any of it, she thought she saw a large image of an Agumon appear inside the hole.
"Did you see that?" asked T.k in alarm.
"Call the others, we're going," said Matt firmly.
Amy sighed, getting up and getting ready to go. There was just no rest for the wicked.
