Chapter 2-
As much as I wanted to fucking beat the pirate for putting me through hell on earth it did serve some purpose. When I woke up from my new bed in my new house I was just dumped with information. It's like studying the day before the test and remembering everything but with more pain.
When I had first woken up it had been on the fourth, that was six days ago. I woke up to a fully stocked house in a nine-year-old body with a baby Windy and younger mother. The pirate even left a letter that was just telling me about a few more details like food delivery and the bills being paid for as long as I was alive. I would even be given an allowance that I already had an idea of how to spend.
There was also a backstory. Me, my sister and mother just came down from Maryland trying to start a new life. My mother had moved us here after the death of her brother, looking for new and better job opportunities. I was enrolled in school which will start tomorrow. Everything else was just details that other people would probably need because people were inherently nosy, but we were set. Well, almost set.
The Pirate did keep their word on making me a witch, but I had no idea how completely different it would be. Unlike the witches here I didn't have a core like theirs where they could channel and direct the magic. Think of it like magic is a power outlet, the witch is the charger, and the spell outcome is the phone. Without the charger the spell won't work and without the power outlet there is no magic to channel.
My problem was that I kept magic in myself. It was my own magic not nature's and that was a lot riskier. I drew out a lot to do simple things like levitate a spoon and that also caused excess leakage but if I was great at strengthening and imitating. I don't think I was trying to do it on purpose but one day I was walking around the home, listening to the birds chirp and unconsciously used my magic to mimic their sounds perfectly. Then one day Windy was about to fall from her highchair and all I knew was that I needed to get to her, and I did. I ran to her from across the room and caught her in a cradle. I only knew I had used magic because of the pull on my core.
So, with all the magic use came a very large appetite. I would eat us out of house and home if it were our money buying food. And I was always in need of a nap. Like now but for whatever reason my mother just burst into my room, and I checked to make sure Windy was still asleep after her noise.
"Yes, Jorrie." I said after seeing that Windy was still sound asleep.
"I'm gone so make sure to lock the doors and don't let anyone in unless it's me."
"I have school tomorrow." I reminded her.
She rolled her eyes, and it just infuriated me. "I won't be out that late. I'll be back in time to take you to school. Now love you and be good." She closed my door and left.
"Clean up her act I asked not make me do it." I said into the air. Technically I asked for a place where she could clean up her act so that's on me. Next time some primordial being wants to grant me a wish I'm going to be really specific.
Jorrie didn't get back in until 2 in the morning and I had school at 7. It was sad when I was back doing a routine I had done when I was twelve. I woke her up at 6 and gave her thirty minutes to shower the alcohol off and get me to school on time. I was up even earlier than that feeding Windy and setting timers on her phone so she would remember to feed her kid. It's not like she had a job at the moment.
We made it there right on the dot and I made it out of the car before I could hear her hungover apologies and get a sorry kiss. I hated them back home and I hate them now.
I went into the nice school building and found my room, happy that the teacher skipped over the introducing the new girl thing and instead said my name and let me sit down. I was placed in the back with, uh oh, a Matt Donovan and Tyler Lockwood. They were really sweet for kids and by recess I was also friends with Charlie's angels. On my first day of 4th grade, I was becoming close with the people I wanted to keep like this. Happy, cheerful and worried about nothing.
That was why I decided to go on ahead with my first step. Enzo. He was here and I needed to contact him so that was what I was trying to do the night of my first day of school.
Since magic was mostly will power, if I wanted to contact him I would. I knew what he looked like, the sound of his voice, his character so it made it easier to do so. After about twenty minutes I was in his mind.
It was so… dark. There were no good memories, just nightmares. For a man who had optimism he would be free someday he sure didn't have good dreams. I know I should just stick to my task, but I had to see.
They were mostly early memories. At the age of 5 he was doing the labor fit for a grown man. At 15 on the streets getting beaten up by another gang of teens. 16 starved and hungry, stealing from whoever just to feed himself. At 27 he was dying from consumption. Suffering. I already knew what was going to happen afterwards and decided to cut my perusing short.
"Lorenzo St. John." I called out.
Instantly the memories in front of me changed from that of a young human man to that of a healthy vampiric man but we both knew that was a life.
"Wh- who are you?" He asked in confusion.
"Maverick. I've been sent here to help." I tried to reassure him.
"What kind of help is a child?" He scoffed.
"Rude. I seem to be in a better predicament than you Lenzo, so I'd do better and listen to the little girl who has access to your mind." He didn't need to know that access was slowly slipping because I was using too much magic.
He sighed in defeat. "Ok so, I need some information if I'm going to help you. Like what's the doctor's schedule, does he stay longer some days, are there other people who come to visit?"
"Sometimes there are. I haven't seen any in a while though. Tonight, he decided to prolong his experiments, but he left a few moments before you contacted me."
"Anything else you can tell me?"
"No." he shook his head. "Half the time my mind starts slipping into insanity and dreadful memories so I'm thankful for this reprieve."
"You're welcome." I could feel my magic reserves steadily getting emptier. "Look Lenzo, my magic is about to run out and our connection is about to be cut so I want to say one more thing. I'm coming for you soon so hold on."
"I will. Thank you, Maverick." He smiled genuinely. That was the last thing I saw before my magic finally gave out on us.
Ok, ok, I know, nothing super interesting happened except for Enzo but I am just setting the scene. The next chapter will be great and as awesome filled as I can make it.
Also, if you have any questions, suggestions or hell a critique please tell me so I can make this better. I want my first fanfiction to be good and people to enjoy it. So, from me, BigSmallWonder, Thank you.
