11 chapters later and this story had obtained over 1'000 views! Yo, I am so shocked and happy and a third thing. I've never been too sure of my writing, keeping what I want to publish in the future private and letting it sit like a wasted dream but doing this has made me want to pick those projects back up and finish them.
Thank you so fucking much for wanting to continue reading a story where the producers can't fuck it up with love triangles, killing off fan favorites and downplaying Bonnie. No no, we shall not have any of that here.
Musa22lbl: I HATED the fact that they left Tyler in the dark for so long but now he got the tea earlier than everybody so he won't be having "WTF" moments in the future.
Now onto the story.
Chapter 11-
After telling Tyler everything but tweaking it a bit (Can't exactly tell him I was sent to this realm by an Andro pirate who is very invested in my friend's future or that I know some future events and my job is to prevent the bad outcomes) he left with no shoes on because I was not a fixer, and he destroyed his in the shift. He promised me his parents wouldn't notice if he slipped in right around their third drink. He promised me he would come back over tomorrow so I can see if I have to tweak the ring.
When Tyler left I had a short call with Windy which was good but wasn't enough. I couldn't wait to have her back. That night I got no sleep missing my sister and trying to keep my cuts clean. I couldn't take pain meds because they didn't mix well with my magic, so I just had to suffer through it.
Believe me when I say showering and trying to put on clothes is hard when you get your arm hurt by a wolf. Had just put on my sweatshirt when Los came tapping on my window. I was a little happy to see the bird that had been a stranger for a while.
"Hey Los." I petted his head. "Where you been buddy?"
With our connection he showed me Lenzo and a bar. It than flashed to Damon fucking Salvatore having a meal.
"So that's what he's been up to. Has Lenzo made a move yet?" Los shook his head. "Ok. Go back to him and give him this message." I used my magic to transfer a mimic message to the bird and watched him fly away once it was received. It was like a recording but clearer and I could do it with any animal. I just preferred Los since he was a smart bird and inconspicuous.
Goddamn it Lenzo do not fuck this up for us. We need him here to put things in motion.
I should have kept a better eye on him but I didn't think he would find Damon. The whole vampire stalking thing must be a trait of the species because they all do it.
With a shake of my head at the idiocy of people who need revenge (cough, Lenzo, cough), I headed down stairs to make myself something to eat or risk passing out from magic use. Lots of toast for carbs and a chicken omelet for protein.
Knock! Knock! Knock! "O'Connell, you there?" Came from the other side of my front door.
"Tyler Lockwood, if you knock on my door that hard again, we're going to have a problem." I yelled at him. "And why are you knocking? You can just come in."
He opened the door wearing his signature smirk that didn't have as much 'dickhead' in it as it would (maybe will) when he's older. "Ready?"
I nodded. "I was waiting on you. We'll have to go back to the spot yesterday because I don't want you accidentally shifting in my house." I walked out the front door with Tyler trailing behind me and we steadily made our way to the secluded bit of area from yesterday. Just like before there were no humans but there was an unusual amount of animal activity. I couldn't see it but I could feel it. There was some agitation and worry and I didn't know why and because my magic wasn't fully mature yet I couldn't create a bond so I could know why they were acting this way.
Tyler coming to face me and touching my shoulder made me realize I stopped walking. "Something wrong?"
"I don't know yet. It's noisy." I remarked but wasn't talking about the chatter of smaller animals. "Whatever. You ready?"
"You sure you're ok?" Tyler asked, still concerned. I nodded and even smiled to show just how ok I was. Tyler didn't look fully convinced but let it go. "What do you need me to do?"
"Stand there and do nothing."
"Nothing? Really? I find tha-" I focused on one of the many small animals making noise and chose a squirrel. I cleared my throat and let out a tangent of squeaks just like a squirrel's but at a faster rate and louder. Tyler was clutching his hands around his ears trying to block out my loud squeaking. I upped the volume to the point that he was on his knees trying to block me out. I sped up the squeaking before ending it completely seeing him not moving or sights of his wolf coming out.
"FUCKING BALLS MAVERICK! THAT SHIT HURT!" He yelled at me after getting off the ground.
I shrugged. "If tests were supposed to feel good we would all love doing them. How do you feel?"
"Like I want to smack some sense into you." He gritted.
"But no over amounts of that anger?"
He huffed. "No."
"Ok. Next test."
"Nooo." He whined and while he did I walked up to him and decided to push him. "What the hell?" I did it again and again until he started showing signs of frustration. They weren't strong pushes, just annoying. "Cut it out O'Connell."
"Nope." I pushed him again, just a little harder. He let out a pure wolfy growl so I tried again pushing with all my normal strength making Tyler go back a few feet.
"I said stop!" He yelled at me. I took hold of his hands and pulled him close so I could examine his face.
"No body hair, no fangs, just yellow eyes but those will go away once you calm down. We're done?"
"Really?" He seemed skeptical and still a bit defensive.
"I was just trying to gauge how much it would take to make you shift. Seems more than a little pushing and loud noises which is good. I think anything short of a serious fight where you feel the extra need to defend yourself will keep you from wanting to transform."
He sighed in relief then scooped me up in this tight hug making it hard to breathe. "Thank you so much."
"Tyler… Can't… Breathe." I think I was turning purple. He let go and I immediately started sucking in large gulps of air. "Let's not try that again until the yellow wears off." He nodded seeing me still breathing heavily.
"And stay away from my house during full moons whenever Petra is in town."
"Wha- O'Connell you can't seriously think I'd-"
"I don't think you would, I'm just taking precautions. Your bite can kill her and we don't have a cure right now, remeber? I couldn't live with myself if you even accidentally killed her after all she's been through Tyler.
"So, vampires exist and Petra is an old one working for you? Why?" Tyler looked like he couldn't believe it.
"Believe it or not Ty, some vampires want roots and she hasn't had them in forever. When I had interviewed her I just got this feeling that she was meant to be here. When she talked I knew all I had to do was listen. When I gave her a trial run I saw how careful she was with Windy, how much care she already had for her. I just knew I could trust her."
"But… she drinks blood."
"From blood bags. She hasn't drunk from a human since '95. I trust her Ty. She's lost a lot of people even before she became a vampire. I mean, can you imagine being treated so badly by your family that you'd choose this life over ever having another human experience. No kids, no settling down for too long. No friends in her case."
"How old is Petra anyway?" He asked thoughtfully.
"Lesson one, never ask a vampire's age because they won't tell you. And lesson two, don't ask me because I won't tell you." I said pointedly.
"Shit, Petra's old."
He slowly nodded his head getting my point. "I really don't want to kill someone."
"It's ok. Since we don't know how the full moon will affect you, I'm just taking precaution. Wolves are hard wired to hunt vampires on the full moon but your ring is a new invention and side effects are pending. Besides, we don't need your venom until we have a Vampire problem." But I already have one with a certain British St, John.
Tyler and I departed soon after we went back to my house. It was lonely, quiet but also opportunitive. I could practice my magic freely, exercising my control and doing something I liked to called expansion. It was like taking deep breaths but for your magic.
I was even trying some new things like that fire trick of Bonnie's. Turns out I couldn't do it. Nope, the water instead was just being manipulated by me but it wasn't a total unsuccess. I had been able to separate it into tiny drops into the air and suspend it. It was so pretty.
Every time I did something with my magic I was learning new things about it. Some things I could do like a witch but I would never be able to add things to the elements like they did. I work with them, I can't change them. I used air to move objects, not just move the object itself. l fed flames into a nearby fuel and had an endless source of fire. Earth was in almost everything and if I just let my senses stretch enough in theory I would be able to be an earth-bender from Avatar. I had started adding these discoveries to a basic notebook when I had sensed something nearby. Weird but also another addition to the notebook.
Like a beacon I could sense it coming towards me and my need to be near it. This was so dumb but I couldn't stop myself. My magic was going haywire and my core was fluctuating in temperature. I found myself starting to leave my home with no shoes on out the back door.
The beacon was getting closer but not going straight for me. It was heading upwards. Like always I used my magic to make me run faster until I was where the signal was. All I found was a man but he was off. His eyes were that of a vampire but they were feral. Not hungry feral, more out of its mind.
It turned when it saw me and charged head on, hissing with its arms ready to crush me. I only had enough time to try that shockwave thing I did with Tyler when he was a wolf but it didn't knock the vampire down. It stunned him but they recovered faster than wolves. I only had seconds before I even realized he was in front of me.
His hand swung out, aiming for my face so I wrapped my body in magic as best as I could and took a step back. I was airborne for two seconds, the punch still connecting but nothing was broken. I rolled onto my feet and pushed off the ground with magic in my soles and hands trying my best to deliver a punch to the vampire. Obviously I sucked because I've never fought before and he was noticing-ly older than myself.
Back and forth we went, him putting hits on my magic shield and me trying to hurt him back. I was losing and running out of magic again. I was so mad, so angry. I was supposed to be better than this. Stronger. Zephir said I could adapt but right now I wasn't trying to. Adaptation required not trying to escape but changing to live.
I wanted to Live. I used the magic in my hands and morphed them into thin fingers with long nails that weren't only sharp at the tip but also the sides. The next time the vampire aimed to punch me in the side I took it knowing it wouldn't break my rib but at the same time I used my hand on my opposite side to deliver a swift and hard swipe. My fingers went cleanly through his arm and I watched in glee as it fell to the ground.
"AAAAAHHHHH!" The vampire screamed in pain, so human from the hissing and drone-like movements. I used his pain against him, kicking him in the stomach hard enough he rolled onto his back a few feet away.
This moment he was weak, losing blood but still hissing. Still trying to fight. I shifted my nails so they were a smaller length and curved at the sides instead of being knife straight like before. I had the tips covering where his heart would be.
"I'm sorry." I whispered but knew he could hear me even if he wasn't listening. I closed my eyes and plunged in, yanking his heart from his body. Finally the hissing stopped.
I refused to look.
I wanted to deny it just a little longer.
I wanted to be a child just a little longer.
But the truth of it was I wasn't.
I, Maverick O'Connell, at the age of 13, directly and knowingly killed someone.
I was a monster.
No Maverick, you're not a monster. You did what you had to do which is sad but true.
Sorry this chapter was late but I needed time and I actually had to help cook thanksgiving food since I moved. Plus, i be writing this knowing I got other shit to do. Please do remember i like to answer questions so leave some review (if you want) so I can answer.
Also be on the lookout for Wild Light or whatever variation of that name I decide on.
Until next time- BigSmallWonder
