This was the place where Sonic, Sonia, Manic, and the rest of the Freedom Fighters resided after the war.
They lived in the village that the Japanese Drifters lived in, Agaki Village.
It was near multiple mountains, and on every single night, the Japanese Drifters would race on the following mountains: Mount Anika, Mount Aruna, Jomiji Mountain, Togichi Mountain, Mount Munga, Mount Akiga, and many more.
"Sonic, have you ever raced on any of those mountains?", Sonic's girlfriend, Amy asked.
"No, I might have a Lamborghini, but I'm not racing that. If I simply ran, I would be down the mountain in less then a minute."
Amy and Sonic then decided to see a race at night, but Sonic first decided to tell his family members and friends.
Manic, Sally, Sonia, and Knuckles were all walking around Agaki Village when they heard something.
"It sounds like someone speaking in Japanese.", Sally said, confused.
They then looked down an ally and saw a red Honda Civic EG6, and a Nissan 180SX RPS13.
"Is that Song and Shingo?" "Manic, I have to agree with you. I'm just curious to find out what they are talking about."
Song was from the Korean Ducks, a group of 5 Baer's Pochards from South Korea. They all drove a Nissan 180SX.
Translated from Japanese
"So, the first battle (race) of night will be Night Ducks vs Grebes?"
"Yes, Song."
"Shingo, you're the boss. Who will be racing?"
"Motoyoshi, he's basically dominant of Mount Munga, never defeated on that particular mountain. I have high hopes for Motoyoshi because it's going to rain tonight."
"We all know the Night Ducks are dominant in the rain, Shingo."
"See you at 9:30 PM tonight, Song."
End of translation
"Well, we'll be seeing a race tonight I guess.", Knuckles said.
"It's 1:16 PM, we have about 8 hours until the race."
Back at the palace
Queen Aleena, Sonia, Manic, and Sonic's mother was at their home, The Royal Palace of Mobius. She had her own RX-7, and she had won against every single Japanese Drifter.
Honda Lake was a beautiful place, and that's where almost every day of the year, the Japanese Drifters would swim. The diving ducks would find fish to eat at the Honda Lake Diner.
Mount Munga had the most turns in all of the mountains surrounding Agaki Village, so everyone knew it would be a good race.
Mount Mananagari was supposed to be the original course for the night, but the course was changed in favor of Andy Rob, a ring-necked duck who would be racing James that night. The match-up would be very intense.
Turnpike Mountain was another one of the mountains, and the other mountain that was important was Mount Honigara.
All of the mountains were important, but these were the most important.
Some of the mountains were named after car manufacturers, including Nissan Peak and Mazda Mountain.
At the Honda Lake Diner, Amy and Cream had taken jobs as waitresses to earn themselves money.
"Motoyoshi vs. Kenta. Who will win?", Reynard asked to his brother Max, the leader of the Grebes. Max's nickname was Maxzilla.
"I'm not interested in betting on races, Reynard. Besides, if Shingo saw us talking about who would win, he would kill us!"
Another member of the Grebes, Kazunori was there with them. "Kenta is Japanese like me. If we lost to the Night Ducks... I don't know, nothing bad will happen."
"Hey guys! What do you want to eat?" "We're still deci- AMY?!", Max yelled.
"Yeah, I work here you know. So does Cream."
All of the Grebes were shocked. "Just get us some food. We don't care, we just want something we like."
After they were finished eating, they decided to do a run down Mount Ganao, another mountain surrounding Agaki Village.
The mountain range was called the Racing Mountains of Mobius.
The only cars sold in car dealerships there were JDM cars, since how serious the Japanese Drifters were on Japanese car culture.
Cream bought herself a Honda S2000 AP2, and on one night, when the Night Ducks' Koji, who drove a Honda Civic EF, challenged her to a gum-tape deathmatch on Mount Anika, she agreed, but she had practiced this situation so much, she decided to not tape her hand to the steering wheel, and she simply drove with one hand on the steering wheel, and have one hand on the gear lever.
She won the race, and when she was talking to her boyfriend Tails, she brought the race up.
"That's why I bought a Celica. Sure it might be from 2005, but it has a 6-speed manual, and other tuner features. It's like a sleeper.", Tails told her.
"You're that AP2 driver. The name's Koji of the Night Ducks."
"I don't know what you what Koji, but if you ask my girlfriend to race, I'll race in her place."
"No, I was thinking of a gum-tape deathmatch."
"Well, I've been practicing my skills with some tape after Sonic, Sonia, and Manic's mother did a gum-tape deathmatch against your boss."
"Sumiyoshi, tape my wing to my steering wheel. We practice this scenario all the time."
"Sumiyoshi, don't tape my hand to the steering wheel. I'll just hold on to the steering wheel with one hand and shift with the other."
Tails, Sumiyoshi, and Koji were in shock.
Sonic had brought his family up to watch some racing. Amy showed up in her Porsche 911 roadster with Sally and Knuckles.
"Cream, that's gonna cause some massive fatigue, you might throw up!", Amy warned. "You really should just tape your hand to the steering wheel like the Night Ducks."
"Nonsense! I've practiced this scenario so many times, I'll just master this race."
The starting lights went out, and Cream and Koji raced down Mount Anika.
*You're Gonna Be from Initial D starts playing, I suggest you read and listen to it at the same time.*
Koji overtook Cream in the first hairpin, easily gaining a lead over her, but she was always in his rear-view mirrors.
"Dang, this kid's fast. She must have skill on this track, but I'm not giving up just yet.", Koji said to himself, nervously.
As they made their way down the course, Cream gradually gained on Koji.
"Are you serious, she's attempting a pass?! Oh well, I guess we need Yamato out here. His EK9 Civic would easily win against an AP2.", Koji said to himself.
Cream's attempt at a pass worked, and Koji couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the type of pass she made.
"Taisama Mountain is the mountain where I made that same exact pass against James. I know me and James are on the same team, but was she watching our tactics as we practiced? If so, THERE'S NO POINT IN TRYING NORMAL TACTICS AGAINST THIS GIRL!", Koji yelled to himself, furiously.
He sped up, then Koji bumped the back of Cream's car with the intent to make her spin out. That didn't happen, and Cream was slightly angered by this.
"So, you decide to try to spin someone who's experienced with the gum-tape deathmatch. Well, Mr. Koji, you have official hacked me off!", Cream said angrily to herself.
She then sped up, and passed Koji again.
"How? How is she doing this? It doesn't matter though.", Koji said to himself. "All you have to do in a contest is win!"
He then bumped Cream again, this time spinning her out, but she recovered because she did a 360 maneuver.
"If I lose to a scumbag like you, I'll be the laughingstock of the Night Ducks. I underestimated the power of her skill and her car."
As they entered the section called, 'The Four Hairpins', Cream had the lead, and through the rest of the course, she led, which made her take the win.
But at the end, Cream felt nauseous. "I should have listened to Amy.", Cream thought.
She parked at the side of the road, ran out of her car, and threw up.
End of flashback...
It was now 5 p.m., and the race was all the buzz in Agaki Village.
Vanilla, Cream's mother had become interested in the JDM buzz after she bought herself a red Subaru WRX GC8 RHD, which had already been modified.
While she decided to take it out for a test run, Goh, a member of The Grebes noticed.
"Wait, that's not any of our cars.", Goh said, confused.
After challenging her to a race, she realized that the reason Cream taught her how to drive like a street racer on the mountains.
After she eventually defeated him, she drove home, but as she was, Goh was behind her. She pulled over to find out what the problem was.
"Is there a problem, Goh?", Vanilla asked.
"No, but you are one skilled driver. I accept my loss, even though it wasn't even a race."
"I was just doing it for fun, testing my skills. My daughter Cream taught me. I don't even want to be a racer."
"Vanilla, let me ask you this. Do you like cars?"
"Of course I do. They are unique machines."
"If you like cars, that's enough to make you a racer!", Goh shouted at her. "You have incredible skill! The pass that you made around the outside was amazing. I've never seen anyone do that before, not even another Japanese Drifter."
As the day went on, some Japanese Drifters went up to the mountain before the race had even started.
It was 8:00 P.M., and everyone was on the mountain by then. Manic had decided to buy some food for himself and his friends. No one was worried about water, as each corner had a water station if anyone was watching at that corner.
At 8:30 p.m., Kenta and Motoyoshi were doing their individual test runs.
"I'm here for the racing, not practice sessions." "Manic, will you shut up?!", Sonia yelled, very annoyed.
At 8:37 p.m., the rain started, and by 9:00 p.m. the light drizzle turned into a steady rain.
At 9:15 p.m., the rain had turned into a heavy rain.
"There's standing water and puddles everywhere on the race course. This looks just like Mount Sakasuchi when it rains.", Tails pointed out to everyone else.
At 9:30 p.m., the racers were ready. Kenta and Motoyoshi lined up at the top of the mountain.
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GO!", Daiki shouted.
Motoyoshi and Kenta raced off the starting grid. Daiki was a member of the Grebes, and he drove the group's most signature car: a Nissan Skyline HT-2000-GTX.
As they raced down the first long straightaway in the rain, Kenta thought to himself.
"No one would want to see a race on the straightaways. Luckily, there are multiple consecutive hairpins ahead. For me, the battle starts when we enter the first hairpin."
As they went through the first corners, Kenta remembered what Maxzilla said to him about Motoyoshi.
"Motoyoshi is the strongest in the rain. I know you like to start the actual battle in the corners, but I suggest you start the battle in the first hairpin. If you lay back, then attack in the corners, you'll get an easy advantage over Motoyoshi."
When they entered the first hairpin, Kenta did a perfect drift, and before Motoyoshi knew it, he was being tailed by Kenta.
"What? He's on me! How can I shake him? He was well behind me, but he gained so much ground.". Motoyoshi had noticed, and he decided to make sure he left Kenta behind.
"I'll leave him in the dust! That's what I'll do!", Motoyoshi determinedly said.
However, Kenta stayed right behind him.
Sonic and his family, along with Cream, Vanilla, Tails, and Amy, heard the cars coming towards their location.
"Here they come!", Cream shouted excitingly.
Motoyoshi and Kenta came out of the kink and then into the next hairpin.
Kenta had made a move to the inside, making sure Motoyoshi wouldn't have the lead going through the corner.
"I know he's going to have the inside the next corner if I force into the outside lane, but I'll attack and make sure I overtake him for good!", Kenta determinedly said.
"Oh yeah! Now this is the racing I wanted to see!", Manic said. "Manic, look, Kenta's overtaking!", Amy excitingly shouted.
Kenta made a successful overtake, but 5 corners later, Motoyoshi noticed something about Kenta's car.
"He's faster then me in the corners, but I catch up on the straightaways. I'm losing in the corners... HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!"
In another corner similar to the one Sonic, his friends, and family were at, Motoyoshi made the same exact move, but Kenta blocked him easily.
"Kenta is one heck of a driver, but I never expected his skills in the rain to be this good.", Motoyoshi said to himself.
After going through several more hairpins, Motoyoshi started to gain an advantage, and he had only been keeping up with Kenta because of his skill in the rain.
"He's passing me! I thought this race was in the bag, and I was totally wrong. However, it's never over until it's over! I haven't lost yet.", Kenta told himself.
As they drove through a now extremely heavy rain, Motoyoshi ran over a large puddle, and started to hydroplane.
"SHOOT! I hit a puddle, and I'm going to spin! Don't spin, come back, don't wreck!", Motoyoshi told himself, struggling to save his car.
He was able to recover, but at a cost, Kenta widened his lead tremendously.
"As long as something happens to him, I'll finish far behind!" However, that's just what happened.
As Kenta came through the section where Reynard and Max were, in an area called the Kagenori Hairpins, which are five consecutive hairpins.
"Kenta's hydroplaning! Max, he's going to spin out!" "And to think the rain was bad, he's going to lose the lead!", Maxzilla told his brother.
In the 4th hairpin, Kenta, went wide, and to keep himself from hitting the guardrail, he spun out.
Motoyoshi caught up tremendously, and he found himself about only about 1 car length behind Kenta. However, he decided to just try to stay behind Kenta.
"If I try to attack now, he'll defend, and I'll lose this battle! I'll wait until the final corners to attack.", Motoyoshi smartly said to himself, knowing this strategy will win him the race.
As they went through the final corners, Kenta noticed Motoyoshi starting to attack.
"So he's attacking. This must have been his plan all along! To attack towards the end of the race.", Kenta noticed.
In the final corner, Shingo and his brother Shoji waited with their Honda Civic EG6s. As previously mentioned, Shingo's was red. Shoji had a yellow EG6.
"Were you expecting such a battle, Shoji?" "No, but here come Motoyoshi and Kenta. It's been raining the whole race."
Coming through the quick left-hand corner, Motoyoshi hydroplaned, and he nearly spun Kenta out.
"NO! HOW DID I HYDROPLANE?!" Motoyoshi then hit the guardrail very lightly, as Kenta raced to victory.
"So he lost.", Shingo told his brother, disappointed. "Yes he did, Shingo, yes he did."
At Kenta's house, the members of The Grebes celebrated his victory.
Motoyoshi on the other hand talked to his boss about how he hit a puddle and hydroplaned.
"Motoyoshi, my friend, me and Shoji saw it happen. As soon as you started to spin out, I knew that you had hydroplaned.", Shingo comfortingly said to his friend.
"It happens to everybody,", Shoji explained. "Everybody has had some sort of crash while street racing on the Racing Mountains of Mobius."
The End
