Chapter 7: The Looming Threat

Disclaimer: I don't own either of the franchises. All characters belong to either Type-Moon or Marvel.

Axel363402: There will be chapters where I focus on the everyday life in Chaldea and your seeing Oblivion because I need an overarching Marvel villain and Oblivion was the one that came to mind.

Cruz7808: I'll think about using those characters for those singularities, but I can't promise it because I already have characters planned for those singularities. But I could probably do your Moon Knight and Valkyrie ideas.

Tigerwarrior1998: I'm so sorry I kind of rushed those last two chapters but I went back and fixed the problem that I could find. So hopefully I got all of them. Now for your first question, I did read "Spin of Fate '' by TRECKERXZ75. It's one of the things that inspired me to write this story. Next, my DC/Fate story will take place in the post crisis but unlike this story it will mainly focus on the magic side of DC because I need to find a way to introduce things like the speed force and the emotional spectrum into Fate. Lastly, I don't know if I'm going to use the Punisher because I don't know which singularity, I want him to show up in.

Spiderwitch221: I'll try and do that but if you want to see a clash of ideals between spider-man and Emiya then you should go read "Spin of Fate '' by TRECKERXZ75.

Remember anything that is written in italics means that someone is speaking telepathically. Now let's get to the story.

Uatu Pov

Before there were any entities to mold the multiverse or even before the multiverse itself, there was nothing but an endless expansion of darkness. That darkness was known as Oblivion and among even the other cosmic entities he was unique. Unlike the other cosmic entities Oblivion did not experience the cycle of death and rebirth that came with every new incarnation of the multiverse. Just as one would expect, Oblivion possesses unimageable power that surpasses many others. In fact, it isn't even known if the judgment of the Living Tribunal holds any real power over Oblivion. But why was he after Ritsuka? Usually after the death of the multiverse, everything is said to return to Oblivion until the combination of the power of cosmic and the Phoenix Force would bring forth a new multiverse. But because of the Beyonders that cycle was now broken.

"Is there something wrong Watcher? You seem puzzled."

It seems Oblivion has noticed my confusion. But I'm uncertain on how I should approach this situation. Here stood before me the oldest and one of the most powerful cosmic beings. If he wanted to, he could easily kill me. I must tread carefully and gather as much information as I can. "I'm just confused with the actions that you have taken."

"I can say the same about you Watcher. Your species possesses great power and were even recognized by the cosmic order. But instead of using that power, your species had a vow to simply watch and not interfere in any event that may transpire. Yet you had interfered with my plans. However, before we continue speaking to one another, I want to know your name? Oblivion said curiously.

Why does he want to know my name? It's not like Oblivion to care about those he considers beneath him. Still, I should introduce myself. "I am Uatu."

When I told him my name, I seemed to confirm something for Oblivion. "Just as I thought. You are the Watcher who took an interest in Earth and its inhabitants. So much so that you broke your peoples sacred vow multiple times to help Earth's heroes."

"You know me, Oblivion?" I asked

"Of course, I know you. You're the only reason why the Earth wasn't devoured by Galactus. Oblivion answered. "But enough about that. I can see that you have some questions and since it's you I am willing to answer some of them."

This is a surprise. I never thought that Oblivion would know of me nor care for the events that took place on Earth. But I shouldn't let opportunity slip by and find out all that I can. "Oblivion, how did you survive, when all the other abstracts were killed by the Beyonders?"

"I survived because I didn't care for them." Oblivion blatantly answered. "The Beyonders had lay a trap for the abstracts and killed them all. Some of the abstracts even knew that it was a trap and went to stop the Beyonders. But I did not go. For it is my nature to wish for the end of all things and despite the intentions of the Beyonders, our goals were similar enough for me to not interfere."

Then is that why you have set your sights onto that new multiverse? I questioned.

When he heard my question, Oblivion let out a chuckle before answering me. "You are correct. I seek to destroy this multiverse and bring an end to it all."

"Then why go after Ritsuka?" I asked.

This time when hearing my question Oblivion didn't seem as amused and spoke in a more serious tone. "Because he is an earthling. As you are well aware of, Earth is the birthplace of many of the universe's most powerful beings. Such as Chthon the progenitor of chaos magic and Franklin Richards the boy who would grow up to become an equal to both the Celestials and Galactus. Even the mad titan Thanos would not have been born if the Earth had not existed. But even without great power the earthlings have proven themselves able to overcome impossible odds, a fact I became all too aware of after an aspect of myself was defeated at Earth."

"Amatus-Mikaboshi, the Chaos King." I answered

"Yes. The Chaos King came so very close to bring an end to existence. But, in the end he was stopped and defeated on Earth." Oblivion disappointedly said as he then created several images of different beings. "Ever since the Chaos Kings defeat, I have kept a watchful eye on each Earth throughout the multiverse, and I have seen many things. Those heroes that you have taken such an interest in were capable of defeating not just the Chaos King, but they were also able to stop the Phoenix Force, the hell lords, the Celestials, and even Abraxas. Over time I came to understand the potential that the earthlings possess, and I wish to harness it for myself. So, as I found this multiverse, I began looking through each universe and I found several individuals with great potential. However, I found that Ritsuka Fujimaru possesses the greatest potential. For he is the human that would either save humanity or die trying. I will make him my avatar and he will destroy this multiverse and go into the greater omniverse to destroy the others."

So that's why Oblivion went after Ritsuka. But it still doesn't make sense. "But why? You have more than enough power to destroy this multiverse. So why do you need Ritsuka?"

"Because soon are multiverse will return and the cosmic order that we once followed will be reestablished. When that happens, I have no doubt that the other abstracts would notice my activities in other multiverses, and I wish to not share my new discoveries with the likes of the Phoenix Force or Infinity."

Now I understand. Oblivion wishes to make Ritsuka his new avatar and have him destroy all the multiverses throughout the omniverse. But why is Oblivion worried about are multiverse returning when it was destroyed and has no way of returning. I wanted to ask more questions, but Oblivion wouldn't let me.

"Enough with the questions Uatu. I believe that the Sorcerer Supreme is waiting for you to provide answers. It's best that you do not keep him waiting."

So, he has decided to leave. But he must know that I will not let him do as he pleases "Oblivion you know I won't let you get Ritsuka."

When hearing this Oblivion did even seem bothered as he made a reply. "It doesn't matter what you say Watcher because in the end it would be up to the human to decide what he wants and when he has no one left to turn to, he would voluntarily come to me."

Then as Oblivion began to leave, he suddenly stopped. "Uatu before I go, here are some words of advice. You should be careful of what you watch. For we aren't the only beings who have stumbled upon this multiverse."

So, with those parting words Oblivion was gone and left me to my own thoughts. What did he mean about other beings? Did other cosmic beings survive as well or are they something else. Regardless of their origins, if Oblivion thought that it was necessary to mention them then they must be dangerous. I must go to Dr. Strange and tell him everything that has happened.

Normal Pov

As Ritsuka opened his eyes he found himself lying on a bed within a room and when he got himself up Ritsuka saw that Dr. Romani was working at a nearby desk. But it wasn't until Fou suddenly jumped onto his lap that the doctor finally noticed him. "Fujimaru you're awake."

"Where am I?" Ritsuka asked, still a little dazed.

"don't worry. After you and the others were transported back to Chaldea, we found you unconscious and brought you to Chaldea's medical center." Dr. Romani explains.

As Ritsuka heard Dr. Romani's responses all the events from Singularity F came rushing back to him and caused him to panic. "Where is Dr. Strange and director Olga?"

"Relax, they're both safe. Dr. Strange and director Olga were both transported to Chaldea, and we gave Dr. Strange a room so that he could rest. Olga is in her personal quarters, but she's going to need some time to herself after finding out about Professor Lev. So, because of that I'm now the temporary director of Chaldea until Olga is capable of properly taking charge again." Dr. Romani assured him.

When hearing this Ritsuka calmed down for a moment and asked a few more questions. "But how did they get to Chaldea and wasn't the director supposed to have died when she returned here?"

'Well, I'm not really sure how they both got to Chaldea, Dr. Strange just said that an old friend of his had helped them. But of course, that answer didn't satisfy Da Vinci, so she has been trying to get Dr. Strange to give a better explanation." Dr. Romani said with an apologetic expression as he then answered Ritsuka's other question. "But as for Olga, well that's much simpler to explain. As you know, without her body to keep her consciousness here; Olga would have disappeared. So, in order to prevent this Dr. Strange made himself her anchor to this world. You can think of it like the relationship between a master and servant. Where a master provides mana for the servant so that they can exist in are world but as long as she's in Chaldea than the director won't have to worry about not have enough mana."

Despite not completely understanding Dr. Romani, Ritsuka was relieved to hear this. He was happy to know that both Dr. Strange and director Olga were alive and safe. Then just as he was getting off the bed, he heard some familiar voices coming from the door.

"Come on, are you sure that you can't tell me more about this friend of your?"

"I already told you everything that I know so please be patient. I'm sure that he will show himself eventually."

As the conversation seemed to come to an end, the door to Chaldea's medical center opened to reveal Dr. Strange and Da Vinci standing side by side and Mash standing behind them. When they noticed that Ritsuka was awake they all seemed to brighten up, but none could compare to Mash who was overjoyed to see Ritsuka and unexpectedly went to hug him. "Senpai your up. Are you okay?"

At first Ritsuka was taken aback by this, but it wasn't long before he returned the hug. "Yeah, thanks to you I'm fine."

For a moment the two of them seem to forget about everything else around them and simply embrace each other. Until Dr. Romani caught their attention. "Ahem!"

As they heard this, Ritsuka and Mash quickly separated from each other and tried to hide their embarrassment from the others. Then as the two regained their composure, they faced the three adults that stood before them as Dr. Romani went to speak. "First of all, congratulations, to the both of you for surviving and completing your first mission. While the situation was forced on the two of you, the both of you bravely faced the challenges and overcame it. Thanks to you two, Chaldea was saved."

"Along the way we were even able to gain an ally and protect our director." Dr. Romani said while looking at Dr. Strange with a thankful look. "But despite our recent victory we need to stay focused and defend humanity. As of right now all the other masters of Chaldea are in cryopreservation because of their conditions. So master candidate number 48 Ritsuka Fujimaru, are you and your servants prepared to shoulder the responsibility of humanity's future?"

Upon hearing this Ritsuka seemed to hesitate in giving an answer until he took a quick look at Mash who simply smiled back at him. "Yes, we are."

Ritsukas' answer seemed to satisfy the three adults as they gently smiled at him once they heard his response. Then as Dr. Romani was about to finish this group meeting a mysterious voice had telepathically reached out to them. "It's good to see that you all haven't lost hope yet."

Everyone aside from Dr. Strange and Ritsuka were shocked to hear this mysterious voice and frantically began looking around to see if they could find its source. Fortunately, it wouldn't be long until the one behind the mysterious voice revealed himself. The being that the mysterious voice belongs to, looks similar to a human, but he was far taller. He possessed gold boots and wore a white garment under a blue cloak. However, what was most unique about this being was its head. While it resembled a human head, it possessed no hair whatsoever, but its eyes glowed with immense power.

When seeing this mysterious being Mash readied herself to fight but luckily Dr. Strange managed to stop her. "Wait Mash don't! This is an old friend. His name is Uatu and he was the one who helped us escape the singularity."

Upon hearing this Mash stood down and along with the rest of Chaldea's members began assessing the now named Uatu. Dr. Romani was surprised by Uatu. While Mash and Da Vinci thought that something was strange about him. As servants they should have felt something from a being that was powerful enough to transport Dr. Strange and Olga from the singularity to Chaldea. Instead, they didn't feel anything, it was as if Uatu wasn't even in the same room as them. Despite that, Da Vinci was still very excited to meet him because if what Dr. Strange had told her about Uatu is true than standing before her was an extraterrestrial. But what surprised everyone the most was the interaction between Uatu and Ritsuka.

"Wait, are you the one who spoke to me?" Ritsuka asked.

"Yes, I am, and I'm glad that you were able to follow your heart." Uatu answered

Everyone else was shocked to find that Ritsuka and Uatu had known each other. Especially the sorcerer supreme. "Ritsuka, how do you know Uatu?"

When asked this question Ritsuka found it hard to find an answer but tried his best anyway. "Well, you see, we kind of met each other when I was talking to someone else."

"Wait, who else were you talking to?" Dr. Strange question.

But this was something Ritsuka didn't have an answer to. So, Dr. Strange turned to Uatu, hoping that the Watcher would have the answer. But what he heard shook him to his very core.

"Stephen Strange I'm afraid that Ritsuka Fujimaru has caught the attention of Oblivion."

"No, it can't be. Why would Oblivion be interested in Ritsuka and how are we still here? Shouldn't he have already destroyed this universe?" Dr. Strange fearfully said.

The members of Chaldea were confused but also afraid. This was the first time they have ever heard fear in Dr. Strange's voice. It wasn't until Da Vinci had asked them a question that they fully understood the reason behind this fear. "Question! Who are you two talking about?"

As the members of Chaldea waited for an answer, several images suddenly appeared within their minds as Uatu started explaining. "In our multiverse we have beings known as cosmic entities or abstract beings. These entities possess vast power and embody different aspects of the universe. Such as time, space, chaos, order, death, and even the universe itself. Oblivion is one of these beings and embodies non-existence. So, it is natural for Oblivion to want for the end of all things. But when our multiverse was destroyed, Oblivion had found your multiverse and believes that there are others as well? So, he wishes to use Ritsuka Fujimaru to destroy them all."

After receiving all this information, the members of Chaldea took a moment to properly process it all. For them to suddenly be given information about god-like beings may have been a little too much. But after a while they were able to compose themselves and it wouldn't take long for the resident genius to put everything together. "Okay, so the living embodiment of non-existence known as Oblivion wants to use Ritsuka to destroy our multiverse and countless others. But why? If he's as strong as you say he is then shouldn't he be able to do it himself."

"Oblivion believes that are multiverse will return and he doesn't wish for the other abstract to interfere with his plans." Uatu answers as he then turns to address Dr. Strange who seems to be lost in thought. "Stephen, is something wrong?"

"Why is Oblivion acting now? While aspects of him would usually try to destroy existence, Oblivion himself would never directly get involved. So why now?" Dr. Strange questioned.

When hearing this Uatu would have no answer for Dr. Strange. Oblivion has never been an easy being to understand. But the Watcher would soon begin to notice another problem. Dr. Strange was behaving differently and he can guess why. Now that Dr. Strange was given some time to rest, the loss of his universe was starting to sink in, and it was affecting him badly. After all, Dr. Strange alongside the other heroes of Earth, blamed themselves for the destruction of their universe and believed that if they had done just a little more than they could have saved their world. But in truth there was nothing at the time that they could have done to save it.

Then suddenly Dr. Strange asks the Watcher another question. "Uatu tell me was it Oblivion, was he the one responsible for the destruction of our multiverse?"

"No, it was the Beyonders." Uatu said as he would go on to tell the group about the Beyonders and how they came from outside the multiverse. Uatu told them about the Beyonders creating Owen Reece and placing a copy of him in every universe in the attempt to use him to destroy the multiverse by detonating him. Uatu would then tell them how an Owen Reece rebelled against his creators and enlisted the help of a Dr. Doom to kill versions of himself. Finally, Uatu told them about how the Beyonders went on to kill the cosmic entities and how Dr. Doom, Owen Reece, and a version of Dr. Strange destroyed the Beyonders and created Battle World.

After hearing everything that Uatu had to say, the members of Chaldea were stunned. They had just learned about entities that embodied different aspects of the universe, only to find out that those entities were killed by things that came from beyond the multiverse. Then Dr. Romani had a thought. "Okay, that was a lot to take in. But are you sure that all of the Beyonders are gone?"

"I believe that they were all destroyed, but there's no way to know for certain." Uatu answered.

The fact that there may be a chance that a Beyonder had survived was a very concerning thought for everyone. But there was one more problem that Dr. Strange has been questioning. "Uatu before you decide to leave, I need to know how you're alive? You were killed by Nick Fury so how are you here?"

When hearing this Uatu didn't even flinch at the mention of his own death before replying. "Simple because I am not the Uatu of your universe. Remember our multiverse was composed of an endless number of possibilities and in my universe, I was never killed by Nick Fury."

"But you're here now and that means you're here to help us, right?" Ritsuka asks.

When Uatu was asked this question, he didn't exactly give them the answer they were hoping for. "I will do my best to help you in any way I can but for the time being, I cannot directly get involved."

"Why can't you directly get involved?" Dr. Romani questioned.

"He can't directly get involved because Uatu isn't actually here. Right now, Uatu is mentally projecting an image of himself, for us all to see." Answered Dr. Strange

"Stephen Strange is correct. As of right now I am currently located in the space between multiverses, and I have no way to reach any of you." Added Uatu.

The members of Chaldea were a bit disappointed to hear this, but they were happy to know that they had an ally that was watching their backs.

'Now before I leave, I have information that I need to tell you all." Uatu said.

"Aww, but I had so much more that I wanted to ask." Said Da Vinci who clearly still had questions about everything that she just learned.

"Unfortunately, we're all short on time. You all must return to repairing Chaldea in preparation for the singularities and I have my own problems that I must resolve. But I'm certain that Stephen Strange can answer any question that you may have." Uatu said. But as soon as he said this, the Watcher saw Dr. Strange give off an unusual face as Da Vinci stared at the sorcerer as if he was the holy grail of all knowledge.

"Now as I was saying I have information that I need to tell you all." Uatu said, gaining everyone's attention. "Before Oblivion and I ended our conversation he told me that others may have come across your multiverse. Unfortunately, I don't know who they may be but if Oblivion thought that it was necessary to speak of them then they must be dangerous. So, you all must be careful."

As Uatu finally delivers all the information he had to the group, he turns his attention to Dr. Strange. "Stephen, you must not blame yourself. You nor any of the other heroes could have seen what was to come nor could any of you have stopped it. Not when even our most powerful weapons couldn't have stopped it. So please don't blame yourself and there might be a chance that there are other survivors who did not end up on Battle World. Like you they could have been transported to anyone of the singularities, but you must be careful. Some of them could be your enemies. Now I wish all of you the best of luck."

Then just as Uatu finished speaking he disappeared and left everyone to their own thoughts. Both Dr. Romani and Mash couldn't help but stare worriedly at Ritsuka. Now that they knew that he was a target for a dangerous entity the both of them feared for his future. Da Vinci on the other hand while she was also worried about Ritsuka, she was more focused on everythings she had just learned, and she would be seeing Dr. Strange for more answers. Speaking of Dr. Strange, he seemed bothered with all the recent events. Despite Uatu's words the sorcerer supreme still blamed himself for the destruction of his world and believes that he was the one who brought Oblivion to this world. Finally, Ritsuka himself didn't have much to say and simply hoped that everything would turn out alright.
