Chapter 3: (1,2K)
STILL IN A COVID HAZE ...
When Ana woke up the next day, the first thing that she saw was a text from Taylor, hoping that she slept well. She smiled to herself, thinking that it was sweet (especially since he was a man from the night), and quickly texted him good morning before she got ready for school. She took a quick cold shower like every morning before joining the boys for breakfast.
And to no one's surprise, Christian had made French Toasts. She didn't comment on it, taking her plate and relishing on her morning coffee. But she wasn't much of a morning person. At least not until she had had her coffee. Still, as the two of them were leaving the apartment to go to their common university, jack inquired, slightly blushing,
"I hope we didn't bother you, last night."
"Eh? I'm the one who crashed your movie night with my complaining of my meh date."
He shook his head, scratching the back of his head, "No … Last night we didn't keep to our room as we usually do, and Christian can be quite … vocal."
She could see how embarrassed jack was about the whole ordeal, which surprised her. He was so open and outgoing about everything else, she never would have thought that he would be shy talking about his sex life. Still, she decided to spare him,
"Nah, don't worry. I was studying all the way to midnight, music blasting in my ears as you like to complain. And then I was out cold 'til this morning. I'll have t wait for some other time to catch you guys in the act."
He sighed with relief, and she teased him a little, "Though I'm sure that's a scene I'd like to see. As Christian said, you're both easy on the eye. And that's with clothes on."

Friday and the weekend that followed went as per usual. Lots of late-night studying, daily texts from Taylor and scowls from the guys when she forgot to eat her lunch, too engorged in her studying. Exams were starting from next week, and Ana had always been an overachiever when it came to grades. If it wasn't at least an A, it was worthless to her. Especially in the classes that she liked.
So it was over dessert Sunday lunch that she was arranging a second date with Taylor. Though that also remained to be seen. First, and more important, nothing would happen during her exams. Second, she still needed to clarify what happened on the first date with him. So when he promised not to disturb her during her exam week, she texted him back
I just wonder how this date is going to go … ~ Ana
WDYM? ~ Taylor
Well, call me old-fashioned, but when someone asks another person on a date, that someone should be the one to pay for the full date, in my opinion. ~ Ana
As soon as she saw that Taylor had read the text, her screen lit up and she excused herself from Christian and Jack to answer in her room. Though she didn't have time to say anything yet that Taylor was already accusing her,
"So you're a gold digger after all. Usually, your kind sleeps on the first night."
"A gold digger? Really Taylor? You're a bartender! What is there to dig? Alcohol-induced comas?" She snapped back in disbelief. She hadn't expected such a ludicrous answer. Maybe some stuttering about life being financial hard as of late. Or at worse him half admitting that he didn't want to put money if she wasn't going to put out. But this … being accused of being a gold digger. Ludicrous!
"Sorry, Princess. I … I had a few bad experiences from the past, and it makes me wary now. To be honest, it was a test, to see if you would pay."
"Well, if you have to test the people you hang out with, you need to change crowds. Plus, if I wanted to dig on someone, I'd be Kate sugar baby for sure. She's a wealthy heiress who's beautiful, smart and funny."
"She doesn't have something crucial to make you happy."
"It's okay. I have what I need right here. But anyway, if our relationship is going to be centred around money and your bad judgment of people in the past, I'll pass."
"No!" He exclaimed with panic in his voice, but Ana was already sitting back on her bed, sorting out her notes and deciding which subject she would study as soon as she would hang up. "Give me one chance to redeem myself. I made a mistake, I let my past dictate my present. Please, Princess."
Ana pursed her lips, repressing a groan before she put down her notes, "We can hang out, but it's not going to be a date, Taylor. Then, we can see where this goes. I just don't have time or even the patience for this kind of drama."
"There's no drama."
"I'll be honest, you sound like a … hands-on boyfriend, and they usually are drama. You have baggage, but that I understand, we all do. I think you should work on that before going further romantically with anyone, but that's my opinion. But … you already have a pet name for me, you text constantly, almost tracking what I do and who I am with. You like to talk about yourself, but not to listen about others and you seem to attach too much importance to my moral codes when it comes to seeping or not on the first date."
"I didn't say anything about you not sleeping on the first date," He defended himself.
"No. But you had this small satisfactory smile like you were happy about it. Let me make this clear. Whether I sleep on the first day, or on my wedding night doesn't change who I am. and since it was a date and not a hookup, you shouldn't make your judgement based on that, especially since you yourself don't have a spotless record."
"So you searched me up? Glad about what you found?"
"What? No! I asked at the club because I'm not going on a date with a random guy I've never met just to end up dead in some alley the next day. It's called self-preservation."
There was a small silence and Ana sighed. "So, hanging out, I'm all for it. Dating … not so much."
Once again, a small since grew before Taylor let out a long sigh and agreed, "Okay. I know just the spot to celebrate the end of your exams."
