Chapter 20 (2,3K)
"I feel that we should have lingered in the shop a bit longer," Jack told Christian as Christian parked in the parking lot. They knew that Elliott had just arrived, and Ana had told them that she was going to inform her brother about their relationship status.
Christian wanted to be there with her, but after Ana insisted, Jack had convinced him to let her break the news about how she thought he would react best. After all, Ana and Elliott were really close, and Ana knew his best.
Still, Christian had been rather restless during the whole duration of their grocery shopping, imagining one terrible scenario on top of another, and he had been so relentless that they should head home that Jack caved on.
In a way, he understood and a part of him was actually feeling like Christian, he didn't like that this big thing that was outing their relationship to family was on Ana's shoulders alone. After all, for both his family and Christian's, they always did it as a unity.
Cut he also felt that Ana knew her brother and if she wanted to do it alone, it was probably because she felt this was the situation that would have the best outcome.
And yet, they were at their front doorway before they had planned. If traffic went well and Elliott picked a cab straight after landing, he had probably been home for barely half an hour. Christian argued that it was plenty of time for Ana to break him the news, but Jack felt that it wasn't nearly enough time for conservative and traditionalist Elliott to process it.
They opened the door, their arms heavy with the grocery bags, and Elliott whipped his head in their direction as Ana turned her head with concern. They were definitely too early.
In the blink of an eye, Elliott launched himself in their direction, and Christian put his bags on the table just in time for Elliott to grab by the collar and tackle him against the wall. Ana screeched his name, but Elliott wasn't listening, his blue eyes flaming with pure fury as he spat at Christian's face,
"What kind of disgusting things did you put in my sister's head!? She's not a toy for you to play with!"
Jack worriedly looked at Christian who had his hands on Elliott's wrists. In all fairness, Elliott was taller and more muscular than Christian, Jack credited that to Elliott's unconventional job that often requested him to handle large animals. But Christian had been a black belt in kung-fu since the age of sixteen, and though he didn't practice just as regularly, Jack knew that he still knew how to throw a mean punch.
Both lovers quickly exchanged a look, and Jack silently warned Christian to not escalate the thing. So Christian remained quitet, his hands still holding Elliott's wrists as Elliott started a rant on how depraved Christian was for playing with his sister's mind to do as he saw fit and that she was not a toy for them to get into their sick perversion. Whatever image was going in his head at the moment, it was pretty, his shudders told that much.
Ana was calling out to him for him to calm down, but to no avail, and so she decided to intervene on her own. She didn't even try to use her crutches, which made her lose her balance slightly when she turned in their direction.
The three men automatically reached out to her, but Jack was the closest and the only one with his hands free, so he was the one who caught her.
"You alright?" He asked with concern, and she dismissively nodded, all her focus on her brother.
Elliott let go of Christian, not without sparing him one last disgusted glare and Ana hopped her way to him. He immediately reached out to her, his face passing from rage to instant worry in the blink of an eye.
Christian opened his mouth, but Jack shook his head, and he went to him to take his hand and direct them to their room. "Right now, he's not listening to reason, but to whatever image he has in his mind."
Christian sat on the floor, his back resting against the edge of the bed, and Jack took a seat next to him
"It seems that he's mostly blaming me, though."
"Well, I told you you exuded alpha male energy. You can't just have the perks of that. Deal with the shit too."
Christian let out a humourless chuckle before he said, "I thought Mom would be the one with the most issues. I mean, I know she's pro LGBT and all of that, but she's also very much anti-Mormon. And yet …" he looked at the door. "I don't like that she's alone with him."
"Elliott would never hurt his sister. They love each other too much."
"Words can hurt." Jack had nothing to answer to that. He knew that Elliott could have one misplaced word that would scar Ana for life. Especially since Elliott was her only close relative left. Christian sighed and closed his eyes, admitting what had really been gnawing at him,
"What if he convinces her to dump us and live the normal apple pie life?'
For a minute, Jack didn't know what to say to that. Mostly because he had thought of it, even though he didn't want to admit it. but then again, "Ana loves us."
"And she values her brother's word and opinion. What's barely a year, and not even a full year as an actual relationship against years of sibship, connivance and the only relative you have left?"
"She loves us," was all Jack could say, still, he took Christian's hand in his, and together they remained on the floor, silent, lost in their thoughts of how their beautiful future had suddenly become unsure.
They didn't hear a sound coming from the other side of the door, which meant that at least, no one was shouting, but suddenly, they heard the front door being shut. In less than a second, they were on their feet, and went to the living room, relieved to see that Ana was still there, though she was staring into space, shell shocked.
Christian went to kneel by her side as Jack quickly checked if Elliott's luggage were in Ana's former room, but nothing was there. He went back to the living room, as Ana whispered, more to herself than to Christian,
"He's gone."

That night, Ana cried in their arms, after retelling them what went on once they went into their room. Elliott seemed determined to believe that the guys had tricked her and that she was a poor damsel in distress who had her right and wrong blurred by some evil and twisted perverts.
It led to a fight between them, where Ana reminded him that she was her own person and that she had her own mind. She hadn't been tricked into this relationship, she wanted it. And of course, Elliott said the coup de grace, "What would Mom and Dad say?"
Ana cried a lot about that because this was something she had been thinking a lot about. But seeing the reaction of both Christian's and Jack's family, she liked to think that her parents would have been as tolerant. She had told the guys as much. But Elliott had crushed that hope for her. As Christian said, words can hurt much more than physical pain.
Still, after that disastrous night, Ana did not mention Elliott again and her smile was back on her face and she was acting just like before, but with the Christmas cheer added to it. But no matter how much she tried to hide it through her smiles and Christina's Carlos, Jack could tell that she was unhappy and devastated by her brother's reaction and words.
Which was why, on his last day of work before winter break, he texted his lovers to let them know that he was not spending the night and that he would briefly visit his sister. They did not question it, though Ana admonish him to not have warned her earlier so she could have bought sweets for his nieces and nephews.
But instead, he took a flight to California, determined to have a talk with Elliott. It had been a week, and Jack felt that Elliott had the time to brew this over and feel plenty of bad about how he handled the whole thing.
He spent the night at the hotel, not calling Christian and Ana because he knew they would want to speak to his family, and in the morning, he went to Elliott's place, impressed by how big it was.
Ana had told them several times that Elliott had a very large estate because he didn't like the idea of his animals living in cages. He had top-notch security for both animals and humans and check the regulations four times a year. But Jack hadn't been prepared for such a large estate.
He was greeted at the door by a petite Hispanic lady who seemed quite young to be working already, especially in such a place where Jack had no doubts that people needed qualifications.
"I'm here to see Mr Steele."
"Mr Steele does not have any appointments today."
"It's a family issue. I'm here on behalf of his sister."
She nodded and asked for a moment. Five minutes later, Elliott was behind the young girl, looking at Jack with worry as he inquired as soon as he was in hearing distance, "Is everything okay? Is it her foot?"
"All is fine. I just wanted to see you."
Displeasure quickly appeared on his face, before he turned to the young girl, "I'll take care of this Sophia. Thank you."
She smiled and left, and Jack kept to himself what he saw in that interaction. According to Ana, Elliott was rather close to his employees and they were all a big family. He was probably reading more than he should into this.
Elliott directed them into the estate, and for a couple of minutes, they stayed silent before he finally asked, "What do you want?"
"Your sister's happiness."
Elliott let out a snort as they walked toward the horses. Jack didn't get too close, but he watched as Elliott patted on of them, whispering in its ear, "This is Storm. Ana's favourite. She's always on my case every time a studio asks for him. And it's quite often. Pure white horses are actually rather rare."
Jack nodded, recalling a picture he had seen of Ana on that very horse, all her teeth out as she petted the horse. Elliott reached for a brush and gave it to Jack before he started brushing one side of the horse. Jack felt he didn't have a choice but to join in, and Elliot let out a dark snicker,
"I should have taken you to the lions and pretended there was an accident of some kind."
"I heard pigs are better to get rid of evidences."
"Not really. They don't digest teeth and hair. And it's harder to put an accident on that."
Another silence fell upon them before Elliott finally asked what had been bothering him, "What is going to happen to my sister once you two will be bored of her and will break her heart?"
"What?! Why would you think that?"
"Isn't it how you operate? Get someone as a roommate, groom them into your sick perversions, and once it wears off, go to the next one."
Jack shuddered at the image and shook his head with vehemence. "We've never had roommates before Ana. And we love her. There won't be anyone after her. It might be hard for you to believe, but we care for her. It's not a sick fantasy, it's not the thrill of the moment, it's our future that we're planning with her.
I know you only see it as something carnal, but it's not. We're here for her. When she's grieving, when she's happy, when she's worried. When she's sad because her brother won't even return her calls."
Elliott hung his head in shame, muttering loud enough for Jack to hear, "I shouldn't have talked to her the way I did. And I shouldn't have said what I said."
Jack agreed but did not voice his opinion. It was obvious that Elliott was already feeling bad enough about his conversation with Ana.
"You have siblings, right?" Jack nodded and Elliott continued, "You always feel responsible for your siblings. Especially when you're the older one. Especially after our parents died. I will always worry about Ana, no matter what. I just want what's best for her. A threesome isn't what's best for her."
"Why? Because she won't have enough love? Support? Money? She has double of what you want for her. It's just … unconventional. But it works. Neither Christian nor I can even bear the thought of losing her. But we can't bear the thought of either of her losing the only family she has left because of us.
We didn't expect you to cheer at the news, but Ana said that you've always been there for her and that you've always supported her, no matter how different your opinions might be sometimes. Why is this situation any different? Why is this big decision she made about her life deserve less of your support, especially when you care so much about her?"
Elliott didn't say a thing, mindlessly brushing the horse and Jack put down his own brush as he gave an envelop to Elliott and told him, "Just think about it."
