Chapter 8

"So you made it back?" Mick Duggan, President of Gilbert's frat said with a grin. "Congrats on your dad's recovery."

"Yea. Thanks to the Lambs I'm back. It reallly means a lot that you guys were able to help me with a late admittance application, " Gilbert said smiling.

"It wasn't just us," Mick said smiling. "When Coach Adams heard you were looking to come back, he threw his weight around as well. Word has it he is trying to get you off academic probation based on your midterm grades and work something out for you to walk onto the team halfway through the season."

"Just goes to show it pays to know the right people," Ronald Stuart, one of his frat brothers said. "Having a Lamb Alumni of the admissions board was a stroke of luck. My cousin has been bombarding me after she found out you were coming back."

"I ran into Christine the other day," Gilbert said with a shrug.

"So I heard. She was less than pleased with your response to her invitation," Ronald said with a laugh. "She'll get over it though. I still can't believe she saw you before we did."

"I didn't get here till late Sunday and you guys, I figured, were busy with pledges."

"Friday night you'll get to meet all the new recruits," Mick told him. "They're a decent enough lot. One of them is in your History lecture," He added grining.

"So how much truth is there to the hot red head throwing her tea on you?" Ronald asked lauging.

"Completely true," Gilbert said rolling his eyes.

"God I wish I could have seen that," Ronald said laughing. "How hot exactly is this red head? I might have to meet her."

"She isn't your type," Gilbert said wryly.

"If she's hot, I'm pretty sure she is my type," Mick said with a grin.

"She's not your type. Stay away from her," Gilbert said narrowing his eyes slightly.

"So that's how it is," Mick said. "She isn't my type because she just so happens to be yours? This is certainly a new development."

"Anne is, " Gilbert said running his hand through his hair. "She's different. Just leave her alone, okay?"

"I wouldn't hit on a girl one of my bros likes," Mick scoffed. "I take it you do really like this girl?"

"You know we are gonna have to meet her. You have to at least introduce us," Ronald said.

"I do like her a lot," Gilbert said. "And sometime I will introduce her to you."

"Why not bring her by the party Friday night?" Mick suggested.

"She hasn't exactly been eager to spend time with me," Gilbert said wryly causing both his friends to laugh.

"Well there will be plenty of hot girls at the party Friday that will be more than willing to spend time with you I'm sure," Ronald said with a grin.

"Not interested. Anne just has to get to know me," Gilbert said.

"Well we have dinner with some of the guys tonight, why don't you join us and tell us all about this Anne?" Mick offered.

"Raincheck? I kind of have dinner plans tonight," Gilbert said with a grin.

"Dinner plans? I thought your Anne was avoiding spending time with you?" Ronald asked.

"Well a group of people from my high school in my dorm eat dinner together, and Anne eats with them," Gilbert said grinning.

"So I guess it worked out well that you ended up in a dorm? " Mick asked dryly.

"Brilliantly. Anne is in the same dorm and rooms with a girl from Avonlea, and none of her friends appear to be morning people, "Gilbert admitted with a smile. "Which has made it easy to find her alone for breakfast."

"I really have to meet this girl," Ronald said shaking his head. "You smile every time you say her name."

"She's special," Gilbert said laughing.
