Chapter 12
Anne took a sip of her beer and spotting Josie called out, "Josie! Josie!"
"Anne, Gilbert," Josie said smiling smugly as she made her way over to the two of them.
"Gilbert was just saying how he felt like dancing," Anne said helpfully.
"I was saying how much I felt like dancing with you, Anne," Gilbert said correcting her.
"Semantics, " Anne said with a shrug. "You feel like dancing, and I bet Josie feels like dancing too."
"Come on," Josie said latching onto his arm and draping herself onto him. "Let's hit the dance floor. I'm sure Anne will be fine here by herself."
"You go on," Gilbert said prying her off himself. "I believe I will stay here."
"You're no fun these days," Joise said with a pout.
"Best go and find someone fun then," Gilbert said rolling his eyes and looking for Anne, who had left when Josie grabbed his arm. Spotting her talking to Priscilla he headed towards her.
"Must you encourage Josie?" Gilbert grumbled joining her.
"But I thought you liked the attention," Anne said with a smirk.
"I like your attention," Gilbert said grinning back.
…
When Gilbert opened his door that night to insistent knocking, upon spying a very drunk Josie, his first thought was to close it, but he knew he should help her to her room.
"Gilbert," Josie slurred throwing herself at him and attempting to kiss him.
Dodging her lips he said, "What are you doing here Josie?"
"You!" she exclaimed with a drunk laugh. "I know you want to get in Anne's pants, but that's no reason we can't have a little fun too. Gertie is going to be so jealous when she finds out I hooked up with you before her."
"I don't want to hook up with either you or Gertie," Gilbert said wearily. "Do you need help making it back to your room?"
"No. I'm staying here," Josie said with a pout reaching for his waistband.
He backed away and said, "I told you, I'm not interested."
"You don't mean that," Josie said as she struggled to lift her top to remove it.
Gilbert promptly pulled it back down and said, "Just stop, okay. You're not staying here. Nothing is going to happen between us." Grabbing her arm he marched her out of his room.
"What about a three some?" Joise asked drunkenly. "If me and another girl both hook up with you together can we have sex? I bet you'd like it. And then I'd beat Gertie. She'd be so jealous."
"No," Gilbert said shortly. "I'm not interested. I know I have a reputation, but a lot of what you have probably heard isn't true or has been exxaggerated. And most importantly it is all in the past. A past I don't care to revisit."
"But," Josie said drunkenly lunging toward him again, trying to kiss him.
He dodged and deciding he didn't want to be on an elevator with a drunk Josie attempting to make out with him, he said, "Ya know what? You're on your own. You found my room just fine, you can find your own."
As Gilbert entered his own room he couldn't help but feel a bit bad for Josie. Her interest in him appeared to stem mainly from competition with Gertie. He vaugely remembered Josie being less abrasive when they were in grade school until her cousin Gertie moved to Avonlea. He was aware he wasn't unappealing to the majority of females, but his confidence had taken enough of a hit from Anne recently to realize it wasn't that he was wanted by Josie as much as she wanted to beat Gertie. He was just a pleasant bonus to beating Gertie, he thought to himself with a chuckle.
