But by Any Other Name
"Azalea?" Hermione asked, laying on her back.
"I will not father a flower." She giggled and rolled over, knocking him lightly with her very pregnant belly. "Will you watch out with that thing?"
"'That thing' is your daughter." She said playfully and poked him.
"How about Severina?" She displayed no emotion whatsoever.
"Wow, I seriously thought that 'Hermeverus' would be the worst name you would suggest."
"I don't know what to name her!" He sat up and leaned against the headboard while she laughed.
"Why don't you suggest something that isn't related to our own names?"
"It's a sad tradition that the first born in the family has a name that resembles their ancestors. I was named Severus after my grandfather Seventious." She grimaced.
"I don't like that tradition."
"Okay, how about Ambrosia?"
"You are getting a little better. I just want a name that means something. Azaleas are my favorite flowers." He frowned at the idea of naming a child after one's favorite flower.
"Sophia? It means wisdom."
"Uh…"
"Sarah means princess?" He smiled playfully.
"Our daughter will not have that persona."
"Maybe we won't know what to name her until we see her."
"Maybe." She snuggled up against him and yawned while he played with her hair.
A week and a half later, they were both sitting in the hospital wing at Hogwarts, looking down at their beautiful baby daughter. Her hair was curly like Hermione's but dark like Severus'. She had baby blue eyes that looked to be hinting towards a light brown, and was so small.
Severus reached out to hold his baby, when she grabbed his finger and squeezed as tight as she could. He chuckled lightly and then she sneezed. Hermione looked upon this with tears in her eyes.
"What are we going to name her now?" Madame Pomfrey walked into the room, smiling at the new family. Severus shrugged his shoulders, as did Hermione. "Well now, she has to have a name." Hermione was completely ignoring the medi-witch and smiling. Madame Pomfrey walked away.
"This is a dream." She heard Severus whisper inches away from his baby's forehead. He leant in and kissed it lightly.
"That's it." Severus looked up momentarily just to let his gaze fall back down to his daughter.
"What's it, honey?"
"Reverie. Do you like the name Reverie?" Severus looked at Hermione and smiled.
"It's perfect."
Madame Pomfrey entered the room again. "Now, do you have a name yet?"
"Yes, Reverie." The medi-witch smiled nodded.
"Now what about the middle name?" Hermione looked at Snape, forgetting that they had two names to figure out.
"Aurora?" He played with her little hand, smiling. "It was my favorite cousins' name."
"Reverie Aurora Snape." She let the words roll off her tongue. "I like it." She smiled and told Madame Pomfrey.
She brought her hand around to caress her soft head of curls.
"My little dream." She whispered as the baby started to settle down.
"Our little dream." Severus kissed Hermione's head and laid down next to her on the bed, sharing their new baby girl.
"I love you."
"And I love you." They drifted off to sleep along with their daughter.
