Chapter 11: Ruby, dead?

(On screen)

Back in town two young boys were standing on top of a building looking through a pair of binoculars at the retreating army vehicles.

"See, I told you it was a big hoax." Said one of them. "Dad said- -"

"Give me the binoculars!" said the other boy, spotting something in the distance.

The first boy handed his brother the binoculars, "What? What?"

"There it is I see it!"

"It's big. It's walking away!"

"Give me those!" the other boy snapped and snatched the binoculars back to have a look.

"Over there! Do you see it!?"

"The monster! Holy cow-

They were cut off by the railing giving way, causing the two to plummet to the ground, only for the strap of the binoculars to snag on a flagpole, saving the boys from certain death.

"Somebody help me! I don't want to fall!

"Help me!"

The cries of terror from the children alerted the people of the town who rushed out of buildings to see what the commotion was.

In the distance the giant turned towards the town, also hearing the cries of the two boys.

"I'm slipping," cried the boy holding onto the binoculars while his brother desperately held onto him. The combined weight was simply too much for the child who couldn't hold on much longer.

The towns people watched in horror as the two boys fell from the massive height, only to hear the fast stomping of something big approaching. Turning they were shocked to see the gigantic form of the Iron Giant sprinting at full speed towards them and take a dive on the road to slide under the falling boys and promptly caught them in his hand.

"Yay! He saved them!" cheered Penny happily.

"Of course he did, he's not bad, just misunderstood," said Ruby while shooting a smug glance at Ironwood who chose to ignore it.

Ozpin smirked at his colleague while Qrow and Tai were openly chuckling. Winter and Glynda just rolled their eyes at their behavior.

(on screen)

"Dad!" "Daddy!" the tow boys called as the giant gently dropped them off into the waiting arms of a relieved father who hugged his sons with all his might and sent look to the towering giant that was filled with nothing but gratitude.

Giant could only stare at the people below him that were staring at him and he could pick up what they were saying. He surprised that instead of fear and distrust, all he could pick was that he was friendly and that he was hero for saving the boys.

He's musings were cut off by a motorcycle pulling up with a familiar pair on it.

(With Roman)

The orange haired man was sulking in his borrowed car as he drove in with line of army vehicles when he checked his rear-view mirror and saw a massive metal man in the town. Gasping and double taking to make sure he wasn't seeing things he turned around in his seat and saw with his own eyes that the giant was actually there. However, he didn't pay attention to his driving and crashed into the truck in front of him, which caused the truck behind him to ram into his car which sent him face first into the front window.

Stumbling out, he began loudly shouting, "The giant, it's attacking! It's stomping through town! I was right!"

General Ironwood climbed out of his truck and saw the giant for the first time. "Sweet mother of God." Was all he could say.

(Back in town)

Ruby had pushed her way through the crowd of people that head formed and jumped into the giants waiting hand and was lifted until she was eye level with him.

"I am not a gun." He proclaimed firmly.

Ruby just smiled in happiness and noticed her mother in the crowd staring at the in disbelief.

"Hey mom," she called cheerfully with a wave. Summer continued to stare in disbelief while Tai who standing next to her could only chuckle awkwardly knowing he would have to explain everything later.

The good mood was broken by a shell fired from a tank hitting the giant in back.

"AARGG!" Screamed the giant in pain and leaned against a building for support while the people screamed in surprise and horror.

"Lets get out of here! Ruuunnn!" shouted Ruby at her friend who covered her with his hands to shield her from the spray of bullets and promptly ran as if his life depended on it.

(off screen)

The theatre was full of yelling and screaming as the occupants watched the Giant flee with Ruby in his hands.

"Those bastards!"

"Why'd they shoot him!? He was literally doing nothing!"

(WHISLTE)

The yelling stopped as everyone looked at Winter who held a whistle to her lips. "That's enough yelling!" she firmly said. "I know you're all upset and angry but screaming at the screen won't change anything, all we can do is watch further and see what happens."

The teens reluctantly quieted down, while the rest of the adults where giving the elder Schnee looks of pride at the way she handled the rowdy students.

(on screen)

Tai managed to snap out of his shocked induced state and quickly tried to defuse the situation. "Stop! There's a kid in his hands! Stop shooting!" he desperately yelled and noticed a familiar face heading towards him.

"Roman!" he called out, "He only reacts defensively. If you don't shoot, he's harmless. You got to tell the general." Tai tried to quickly explain but Roman was to angry to listen.

"This is all your fault beatnik," he angrily said and got right up in Tai's face. "If you - -

"Shut up and listen!"

"You got to make them stop. The giant's got the kid with him." Tai desperately pleaded.

Roman paused and seemed to think on what he was told. "I'll take care of it." He finally told the blond man who gave a nod of appreciation before taking off on his motorcycle in the direction of the fleeing giant. As soon as the blond was out of sight Roman addressed General Ironwood who just arrived.

"He says the monster's killed the kid," lied Roman through his teeth. "Sir we must stop it at all costs."

Hearing the Giant had murdered an innocent child made the General's eyes narrow in anger as he pulled out his radio to issue orders.

"Go to code red! Repeat, Code Red!"

(off screen)

"That lying crook! If he were really my subordinate, I'd have him court martialed in heartbeat for lying to his superiors!" Ironwood gritted out in anger. With Winter fully agreeing while the rest were all glaring angrily at the screen.

(on screen)

After the general had issued code red, the President was briefed, and fighter jets were scrambled and were on their way to destroy the giant.

Back in the town, Summer had hopped into her truck and was gunning it to hopefully catch up to her daughter who was still in the grasp of the massive giant. Her fast driving paid off and she could make out the running giant ahead when the sound of fighter jets made her look out her window and into the sky where she spotted three jets closing in fast.

Ruby was hanging on for dear life as she and Giant continued to flee when the sound of fighter jets made them both look up which distracted them enough not to notice the bus in the road ahead. Only the horn blaring made them see it approaching quickly in their path.

"Look out for the bus!" shrieked Ruby.

Luckily the giant managed to avoid the bus but lost his footing and ended up falling on his back on the slippery snow which unfortunately sent them off the side of a massive cliff.

As the two fell, Ruby screamed in absolute fear while red lights flashed on the giants back which seemed to activate thrusters at the soles of the giant's feet which stooped them from falling into the sea.

"You can fly?" asked Ruby in disbelief. "You can fly!" she cheered as they ascended into the sky.

Summer climbed out of her truck and ran to the edge of the cliff just as the massive giant flew up with her daughter in his hands. "Ruby!" she desperately called out, but her plea fell on deaf ears as the two vanished into the clouds.

High in the sky, Ruby and the giant were levitating a little shakily until Ruby had an idea. "Try pointing your arms straight ahead, like Superman!"

Nodding, the Giant aimed his free arm forward and just like the caped hero, he began flying with more control. Their good mood was shattered by the appearance of fighter jets that proceeded to hunt them down.

(off screen)

"Come on, get out of there! Don't let them get you!" Ruby ordered through the screen as she and everyone else watched the giant evade the jets and shield her counterpart from the hail of bullets in the air. Weiss put a supportive hand on her teammates shoulder, "they'll be fine, I'm pretty sure they'll get away in no time," she assured her partner which got an appreciative smile in return.

However, they got a bit concerned when the giant's eyes turned red and began targeting the jets but sighed in relief when he shook it off and aimed his boosters forward and blasted backwards and out of sight of the pilots.

"See, what did I tell you-

Weiss went silent as she witnessed a missile hit the giant which deactivated his boosters and sent him into a downward spiral straight to the ground.

"Oh no," was all she could whisper, along with the others who were all staring at the screen in trepidation and anxiousness.

(on screen)

Summer was driving as fast as she could while keeping her eyes in the sky at the flying machine. Her eyes then widened in horror and fear when the giant was hit and began falling from the sky with her daughter in his grasp.

"Noo!" she yelled in despair. She could only pray that her daughter would survive the fall.

Staring at the falling giant with a pair of binoculars, Roman gave a triumphant smirk. "Ha, gotcha."

Approaching the ground at terminal velocity the Giant quickly held Ruby to his chest and turned so his back would hit the ground first. The first impact nearly overloaded the giant's pain receptors and second nearly made him black out but he held on to consciousness as long he could as he smashed and destroyed a few houses and farms until he stopped rolling and laid still in the snow, eyes completely shut.

General Ironwood examined the still machine with his binoculars and saw it was seemingly dead. "Good call Torchwick," he praised the man who puffed up. "Secure the area. Let's find out what this thing is and who sent it." He ordered his men and drove onwards to the fallen machine.

Coming to, the giant groggily shook his head and sat upright, only to notice his hands were empty. Now fully alert, he frantically searched the area only to freeze, for a few feet away lay Ruby, eyes closed completely still.

Slowly he reached out and gently nudged the still girl, hoping for a reaction, he got none.

"Ruby, dead?" Was all the giant could think as he pulled his arm back, held his face in his hands and proceeded to cry in sorrow.

(Screen Darkens)

"N-no, it can't be. She can't be dead." Tai said in complete despair, it didn't matter if it was an alternate version of his daughter, seeing your child seemingly die would break any person. Without a second though he bolted from his seat and made his way to his daughter and scooped her into his arms with no chance of letting go soon.

Ruby squeaked in surprise "D-dad?"

"Just let me hold you, please." He begged in a pleading tone. "I just…I just need to reassure myself that you're here. Please."

Understanding immediately, Ruby allowed her father to hug her and didn't notice when Yang joined, followed by Qrow, then Weiss and Blake as well as Penny and team JNPR. Soon the only ones not in the massive group hug were Ozpin, Glynda, Winter and Ironwood who decided to just watch with small smiles on their faces.

A/N: That's another chapter done; I hope you enjoyed it. Next time will be the long-awaited giant rampage scene, which is one of my favorites because it shows how unstoppable the giant really is. There's nothing else to say for now so I'll see you all next time.

Ja Ne!
