Summary: Oishi contemplates.
Oishi had always thought that Eiji Kikumaru would possibly be the most socially adept person he'd ever meet, and in junior high it had been almost painfully obvious. The boy gave out his first name almost carelessly, had no respect for anyone's personal space, and seemed to have a nearly endless ability to entertain. He thrived on touch and would do nearly anything to get noticed. His emotions ran a constant roller coaster and just a modicum of attention was enough to keep him going for days.
It was attention Oishi was more than happy to give him, and the boundless smiles and open loyalty he received in return made him feel more appreciated than he'd ever thought possible. Their doubles partnership had been nearly perfect, the combination of impulse and big-picture logic nearly unstoppable. They just fit. Kikumaru provided the excitement Shuichirou needed and Oishi provided the unquestioning support Eiji yearned for.
And in time, as they grew older and more curious, friendship evolved into something else. A kind of experimental fumbling threaded through their high school years. Eiji gave him his first kiss, was the first to simply twine their hands together, the first person to cuddle up next to him, to sleep beside him under the same blanket. There were a lot of firsts where Kikumaru was concerned, but they never really made a commitment. It was an understanding. They never actually dated each other. And somehow, after every failed relationship with someone else, they always came back to the open, string-free friendship that began on the tennis courts. It always seemed as if they could go on that way forever, that one day they would just break down and move in together so as to go about it more conveniently.
So Oishi had to wonder, as he reveled in the feeling of familiar hands stroking down his backi If Kikumaru was exactly what he needed, if the Golden Pair was so perfect, if he wanted impulse and clown antics and someone to lean on him, if he really didn't want or need anything more than those smiles, that loyalty……
….then why was it that kissing Tezuka Kunimitsu felt like coming home?
