Luke pov
I'm both amazed, impressed, heartbroken, and ashamed of myself and Percy. For many reasons, one being that Percy did keep his promise, no one else knew I was here so far... Another is that we are getting used to our situation. A final reason is that I may never experience true freedom.
After we got home from the doctor, Percy made dinner, afterwards, I went to the room I was staying in and did my best to sleep.
As a demigod, you can imagine how well that went.
"Hello, Luke Castellan." Said an old voice. I looked around hoping to see the owner of the voice but all I said was darkness. I stayed silent. "I understand that you may be confused. But be at peace. I am an ally." I couldn't tell if the person or god was male or female. It didn't matter by the seams of it as I found out 3 seconds later.
A woman with long silver and pale skin appeared out of the darkness. I didn't get a good look at her face because I was focused on the two needles in her hair.
"We did not plan for this to happen but The Gods took it out of our hands when they ruined Jackson and Chase for their selfish reasons. I understand that this is not the best way for you to find happiness but you will. You must stay strong. You go through heartache and fear and pain but stay strong. There is a strength in you, one that can withstand a storm."
I woke up after that. Looking out the window I can see that the sun began rising. Cursing softly under my breath I got up and grabbed a long sleeve shirt and some sweats. While changing my clothes, I traced my former Achilles heel. Ignoring the feeling of pain it shot through me, pulled my clothes on, headed downstairs and out to the front, and sat on the steps. Honestly? The scenery was quite breathtaking. I couldn't describe it before mostly because I was in pain, confused and terrified. Nature during the fall is absolutely beautiful.
Trees growing up as low as 14 feet and as high as 30, have beautiful brown bark. Some of the green leaves had turned brown, red, and gold, falling slowly to the ground. Flora and fauna ranged from bright vibrant colors like golden red to deep cool cooler-like violets. I felt at peace. Maybe it won't be so bad here after all.
I wasn't wrong at first. For the next two weeks, Percy went back to school while I stayed and watched the cabin. I mostly cleaned and watched tv. I also found out that the place was a monster proof so I looked up what happened after I had died. I haven't missed much other than finding out my mom died in a fire. I had mixed feelings about that. On one hand, the woman terrified me as a child but on the other, she was my mother. My mentally ill mother.
"Whatcha reading?" A voice spoke behind me. Whipping around I notice it was Percy so I relaxed.
"I'm trying to catch up on what's happened since I've been gone," I muttered. Percy nodded in understanding, but he didn't look me in the eye. I was desperately trying to ignore the awkward air between us.
"Look, I wish I could give you a proper explanation as to why I did what I did. But I can't. At least not right now. But I'm trying not to make this awkward," Percy spoke, well rambled. Not doing a good job of not making it awkward. "But we used to be friends. You are free to go wherever you want. You just have to come back. Here, to me. I have an extra car hidden in the trees. I'll give you the keys. But please you have to come back-"
"Did I ever teach you how to play poker?" I interrupted him. Percy froze in confusion before staring at me. He shook his head no. Ignoring the shaking in my hands, I stood up and went to grab a stack of playing cards I had found earlier. "Well, I guess I'm teaching now. Well start with Texas Holdem and work our way down the list." I muttered as I walked to the table to set up. Percy followed me. He caught on quickly. We spent the next hour playing with each other. I won most of them (the benefits of being a son of Hermes), and we made small talk. Sadly I had to ask.
"So why did you and Annie break up?"
As quickly as Percy froze, I would have thought Medusa turned him into stone. Watching his face turn to heartless stone made fear shiver up my spine. What the hell happened to them? He took a deep breath before speaking,
"I got sick of her shit. She always talked down to me and treated me like an idiot. We were at camp after the second war with Gaea and everything was hunky-dory. I was packing to see my family for thanksgiving when she told me I wasn't going, saying that my family was a distraction." Percy snarled. I sat there frozen in shock as he continued. "I went home anyway. The next day she came over and started a whole argument with me. She told me that I had to listen to her, that I needed her. I tried to reason with her but she just wouldn't listen to me. That opened my eyes and I felt like she never loved me. If she did, it didn't last long. She kept me as a pet because it was convenient or because she liked sex. When I confronted her, she tried to deny it. Broke into a full fight ending with her admitting that she kept me around because of the oath Chiron made her take back when we were thirteen."
Wait, what oath? What did Chiron do? Percy answered my question.
"He made Annabeth swear to protect me from me if possible. In short, if I died and she could have prevented it, she dies as well. I called Chiron and told him to relieve her of the oath, which he did, and broke up with her on the spot. I move out the next day and move out the next day bouncing between here and my mom's place."
My jaw was on the floor. What the Hades? How could Chiron do that to her? What the hell is wrong with Annabeth? I had so many questions I wanted to ask but by the look on Percy's face, I had a feeling that it would be in my best interest. I began to put the card away. As I stood up from the table, I made my way over to him and shakily laid my hand on his shoulder.
"I'm glad you trusted me enough to tell me," I whispered. His hand reached up to hold mine.
"You deserved to know." He murmured back. We stayed like that for a while until I began making my way to the living room. I froze in the doorway before going back and grabbing Percy's hand. Sea green eyes stared at me as I dragged him into the living room and sat him on one end of the couch and turned on the tv.
"We need TV," I announced as I settled on the other end. I turned it to a random channel and began watching something called the Big Bang Theory. After a few minutes, we somehow managed to scoot closer to each other until we were sitting next to each other. I felt my eyes grow heavy as I slowly relaxed and fell asleep against Percy's shoulder feeling his head on top of mine. At this moment all I felt was peace.
Maybe this won't be so bad after all.
—-Line Break—-
Percy POV
I'm already getting attached to him again. I keep thinking as to why I made him take that oath. Maybe it was to keep him from overthrowing the ancient empire again. Maybe to stop another war. But as I ran my hand through Luke's soft blonde hair as he slept, I had a bad opinion about the real reason as to why I made him take that oath. The feelings got worse when I thought about the other blonde from my dream. I knew I couldn't keep him here forever but the thought of someone taking him from me set my blood aflame. I knew when we first met I had a crush on him that turned into an obsession. One that was coming back full force.
I AM SO SORRY. I didn't mean to take that long of a hiatus. I just forgot completely. But on the bright side, I have a new story that you should check out.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN/ BLESSED SAMHAIN
Sincerely, Olly
