A week later on a (thundering breaking) from the mountains as a horsewoman rides into the town of Valley Springin the night. ( indistinct chatter)at the saloon

Now about the linens. Hmm? Blue or white? Rosemary said

For what? Lee said

(Chuckles) the réception, silly. White tablecloths are standard, but if we want with blue, they bring out the color in my eyes. Rosemary said

What are we gonna match with my eyes? Something bloodshot? Lee said

(Chuckles) Lee. You really do need to get some rest? Rosemary said

Well, I would love that, but there just isn't enough time, with everything on your wedding to-do list. Lee said

Consider it a labor of love. Rosemary said

(Mumbles) yeah. Lee said

Now, about the dinner. For the reception—– Rosemary said

Mmm, isn't that something you should be talking to Abigail about? Lee said

I thought we'd have the food sent in from the Grand Hotel in Lost Hills. Rosemary said

There's nothing grand about the food from Lost hills, trust me. Lee said

I love Abigail you know that but is she skilled enough to put together a whole wedding banquet? Rosemary said

Just tell her what you want and I am sure she can handle it. Lee said

There Houston storms all over. I wouldn't to take the chance of the food not arriving on time. Rosemary said

How about this one? Elizabeth said

Well, that's ... an improvement. It's definitely a ... a baby step in the right direction. Rosemary said

(Sighs) you don't like it. Elizabeth said

Oh, Elizabeth, I do appreciate you offering to do the place cards, I do, but it's just so school-teachery. It just needs a little flair. The letters need to dance across the paper. Maybe you could try working on your apex and your arches. Do you need a new nib? Rosemary said

There is nothing wrong with my nib! Elizabeth said

Oh. Well... then this is ... this will be just fine. Rosemary said

(Sighs) let me try again. Elizabeth

(As she walks to the temple next tell him in the saloon) What are you doing? It was fine. Lee said

We don't want our wedding to be "fine," Lee! We want our wedding to be fantastic. Rosemary said

Well, let's just hope we have some friends left to attend our fantastic wedding. Lee said

Meanwhile at the jailhouse as jack throwing along in the fire

(Sighs) good night, boy. Jack said (as he turns out the light) (Knocks on Door)

Can I help you? Jack said

I could use a hot cup of coffee. Charlotte said

Mom! Jack said

In the flesh. Charlotte said

(Chuckles) so you rode all the way from Stockton on horseback? Through the bad weather? Jack said

Well, it's not like I'd melt. Charlotte said

You know, there's a thing called a car now. Maybe you've heard of it. Jack said

You always did like to sass. Charlotte said

I'm just saying, it's a bit safer. Jack said

Well, the weatherman a mess of the schedule. And besides, it's been way too long since I've seen you, son. So, this is where you live? Charlotte said

It's not so bad. Jack said

And, uh, where's the young lady you were writing me about? Charlotte said

That's really why you came here, isn't it? Jack said

Can't a mother miss her son? Charlotte said

(Chuckles) And here we go. Jack said

What is that supposed to mean? Charlotte said

It's an old trick of your. Asking a question instead of giving me an answer. Jack said

Do I do that? Charlotte said

(Sighs) I surrender. ( Both laugh) it's getting late. Let's just talk more in the morning. Jack said

Just point me toward the hotel. Charlotte said

No, the front desk closes at 10:00. You're staying here for the night. Take my bed. I'm gonna bunk in the cell. Jack said

It's good to see you, son. Charlotte said

You too, ma. Jack said

The next morning

How was your trip? Frank said

Oh, endless. Some of the roads were washed out, so the coach had to take the long way home. Abigail said

Guess what? Bridgett won the scholarship contest. Corey said

Wow, that's great news! Can't say I'm surprised, though. Frank said

Hey. Corey! You want to play kickball? Robbery said

Is it okay, miss Abigail? Corey said

Oh, I don't know where you get all that energy after such a big trip, but have fun. Abigail said

It's good to see you. Truth be told I missed you Frank said

Well, as long as we're telling the truth I missed you, too. Abigail said

If you're not too tired from your trip. I was thinking we could go riding tomorrow. Frank said

I'm thinking it's a date. Abigail said

Meanwhile at the saloon

Told you are deliver John said

That's why I hired you. Did anybody get hurt? Martin said

Let's just say the guy knew I meant business. John said

He was three months behind on it and loan I gave him. I believe this is what we agreed upon. Plus a bonus. Martin said

Got any more work? John said

Soon enough. Martin said

Platinum lounge you're doing business with you. John said

Meanwhile at the jailhouse

You've got a loose button. Here. Take that off. Let me sew it for you. Charlotte said

Nah. I'll fix it later. Jack said

Jack, how is anyone going to respect you with a loose button? Charlotte said

Well if I lose their respect over a button I never had it. Jack said

(Chuckles) you still get that cowlick. Charlotte said

Ma, I can dress myself without your help. Jack said

Well, there's that sass again. (Sneezes) Charlotte said

You're not getting sick, are you? Jack said

Ah. You know I don't get sick. It's that dog. Charlotte said

Rip? No, he had a bath yesterday. Jack said

Well, he needs anything one. Charlotte said (As Rip growls) (Door opens)

Hello. Elizabeth said

hi. Jack said

Hi. Elizabeth said

This is my mother, Charlotte Thorsten. Ma, Elizabeth Letcher. Jack said

Well, hello. Charlotte said

Mrs. Thorsten, it is such a pleasure to meet you. Jack, I can't believe you didn't tell me that your mother was coming for a visit. Elizabeth said

Well, I didn't know. Jack said

I, uh, like to surprise him, Lizzie. Keep him on his toes Charlotte said

It's Elizabeth, ma. Jack said

Oh, that's all right. You can call me whenever you like, Mrs. Thorsten. Elizabeth said

Hmm. Charlotte said

Why don't you both come over to my place for dinner tonight? I'll make a shepherds pie. Elizabeth said

You're going to cook for my mom? Jack said

Is that a problem? Elizabeth said

Not at all. And I'll help. Charlotte said

Oh, but, ma. You can't cook either. Jack said

What do you mean by "either"? Elizabeth said

Did I say "either"? (Chuckles) I meant "often." Neither of you cooks very often so I thought that I would treat us to dinner at Abigail's. Jack said

(Charlotte Sneezes)

Bless you. Elizabeth said

She thinks she's allergic to Rip. Jack said

Oh, someone needs a bath. Charlotte said

Rip or Jack? Elizabeth said

(Charlotte Laughs)

You know what? I have plenty of space at my house. Why don't you come and stay with me? Elizabeth said

Oh, no, we wouldn't want to impose. Jack said

It's no imposition. Elizabeth said

Well, in that case, I'll go get my bags. Charlotte said

(Elizabeth clears her throat ) Do you think I can't cook? Elizabeth said

Oh, no. You ... you've gotten much better. Jack said

Then why would you say that? Now your mother's gonna think I can't even prepare a decent meal. Elizabeth said

(Chuckles) well, then you'd have that in common. But you don't, because you're a much better cook than she is. Jack said (as steps for morning kisses her)

Meanwhile outside

I want you to release the downs just as Lee and I leave the church. Rosemary said

Maybe we could throw rice instead Hickman said

Hickman. What aren't you telling me? Rosemary said

The lock on the cage wasn't closed all the way up last night I'm afraid your birds flew away. Hickman said

(Gasps) oh, no! All of them? Rosemary said

All except one I think it's too fat to fly. Hickman said

Well, you put him on a diet and you find the rest of those naughty little birds. I need solutions not problems! Rosemary said

Yes, ma'am. Hickman said

Rosie level, is that you? Charlotte said

Charlotte Thorsten! (Laughing) It's been ages! (as she hugged her)Rosemary said

yes last time I saw you-you and Jack had just gotten engaged. Charlotte said

Oh, dear. I hope there are no hard feelings. Rosemary said

Hard feelings? You and Jack or oil and water. You were never meant to be together. Charlotte said

I guess you knew before we did. Rosemary said

Chalk it up to mother's intuition. Charlotte said

Well, I finally did find the man of my dreams. We're getting married on Saturday. Rosemary said

Congratulations, honey. He's one lucky man. Charlotte said

I'm the lucky one. So much to chat about. Come! Rosemary said

Meanwhile at saloon

I have to admit I wasn't sure how I felt about seeing you. Rorà said

I should have never asked you to choose beat tween Bill and Me. Martin said

You really mean that. Rorà said

I do. I just hope that you'll forgive me. Martin said

As long as it doesn't happen again. Rorà said

It won't, I promise. Martin said

You know, Martin I've been thinking. We both have unhappy memories here. Maybe it's time for us to get a fresh start. Rorà said

What did you have in mind? Martin said

I know it may sound like an impossible idea, but what if we started over somewhere else? Far away from valley spring ? Rorà said

Well, I've already put a bid on that property I showed you. Martin said

You could withdraw it. Rorà said

That night At Elizabeth

Your guest room in very nice. Charlotte said

I'm So glad you're comfortable. Elizabeth said

And I can see that you do not like dusting anymore than I do. Charlotte said

Actually, I just dusted this afternoon. Elizabeth said

Of course, you did. Aren't you worried about making a mess on your pretty dress? Charlotte said

Oh, it's nothing fancy. Elizabeth said

I sew my own clothes. Charlotte said

Oh. Elizabeth said

Do you sew? Charlotte said

I once sewed a pillowcase. Elizabeth said

That's nice. Oh, what's that? Charlotte said

Paprika. Elizabeth said

Jack likes pepper. Charlotte said

I didn't know that. Elizabeth said

Well, now are you do here you go. Charlotte said

Isn't that a lot of pepper? Elizabeth said

Oh, you can never have too much pepper. Now all of that is my special said

Love? Elizabeth said

Lard. Here we go. Charlotte said

Meanwhile at the cafe

Now, here's the list of entrées I was thinking of. Rosemary said

For different choices? Abigail said

You don't you think that's enough? Rosemary said

Rosemary, could it be that you're trying too hard? Abigail said

Well, I just want everything to be perfect. Rosemary said

People are coming to your wedding because they care about you and Lee not because you're serving them some fancy dinner. they want to celebrate the promise of your future together. They want to celebrate the love you have for each other. Abigail said

Oh, Abigail, that's so dear of you to say. Rosemary said

It's true. Abigail said

then I won't worry about the food. Rosemary said

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Abigail

So, about the bridal shower? Rosemary said

What about it? Abigail said

Don't you think you are you and Elizabeth should start decorating? There isn't much time left it is tomorrow night. Rosemary said

And we're going to decorate tomorrow. Abigail said

But are you sure that's enough time I just want everything to be. Rosemary said

And it will be. Abigail said

Meanwhile at Elizabeth house

This is really delicious. Jack said

You're hardly eaten a mouthful Charlotte said

It's just... it's really filling but good. Mmm. It's really good. Jack said

Your mother put lard in my shepherd's pie. Elizabeth said

Lard is what makes it stick to the shepherd's ribs. Charlotte said

I had a, uh, quite a lunch, so ... and squeaking of lunch, I think we should head to the settlement tomorrow, before lunch, maybe just after breakfast. Jack said

What settlement? Charlotte said

It's just south of town by the river. A couple of dozen families just moved there. Jack said

They're renting the land there until they can afford to build permanent homes. They really don't have much. Elizabeth said

Oh sounds like a tough life. Charlotte said

It is. Elizabeth is trying to set up a school there for the children. Jack said

Why can't they come to school Valley spring ? Charlotte said

It's too far it takes three hours walking from here. Elizabeth said

The first school I taught at was in a tent. Charlotte said

Jack told me you were a teacher. Elizabeth said

Well, I haven't been in a classroom in a long while. I miss the kids. Charlotte said

Well, you should come tomorrow. Jack said

I wouldn't want to impose on your mother. Elizabeth said

I'd love to. If Lizzy doesn't think I'd be in the way. Charlotte said

You could never be in the way, ma. Jack said

Not in a million years. Elizabeth said

The next morning

Good morning, sunshine. Charlotte said

It's 5:00 in the morning. Elizabeth said

I made coffee. (Sighs) I've been up since 4:00 I couldn't find a washboard. Charlotte said

That's because I don't have one. Elizabeth said

How do you wash your clothes? Charlotte said

I pay Mrs. Miller to do it. Elizabeth said

Oh. Charlotte said

With my schedule, it is an always easy to get the laundry done and the Millers are new in town they could really use the extra money. Elizabeth said

Well, I do it myself. Charlotte said

I don't really care for the idea of someone else handling my personal items. Charlotte said

Oh, I wash my own unmentionables. Elizabeth said

You know I never could figure out why a person would bring them up when they can't mention what they are. (Chuckles) sit. I really do love this time of day. A person can get so much done before the rest of the house gets underfoot. I bet your mom felt the same way. Charlotte said

Well, she didn't have help. Elizabeth said

You kids pitching in? Charlotte said

I meant their servants. Elizabeth said

Yeah, Jack told me about your life in Hamilton. Must've been very comfortable. Charlotte said

Maybe too comfortable. It's part of the reason why I moved to Valley Springto do things for myself. Elizabeth said

Except for your laundry. (Chuckles) Charlotte said

Meanwhile at Mercantile

This is the last of it Katie said

Great. Ned said

You work this girl too hard. Bill said

Well, no choice. Had to pack up a last-minute load of supplies for in the boys up at the Silverton mine. Ned said

We needed to get the wagon on the road in a hurry in case the rain washes out the trail. Katie said

(Thunder rumbling)

Isn't this fabric just gorgeous? Rosemary said

Oh, gorgeous and there's a lot of it! Dottie said

Are you sure you have enough time to make all four dresses? Rosemary said

Four? I thought you said there was tree bridesmaid. Dottie said

Did I? No, I meant four. So hard to keep track of all the details. Rosemary said

Claire is very good at sewing I might be able to convince her to help. Dottie said

That's a wonderful idea. I really have to run. Lee and I have a meeting with Pastor Hagan. Good luck with the hoop skirts! Rosemary said

If it was up to me we wouldn't get married this second. Lee said

Well, I do have the power vested in me. Frank said

Uh, Lee I want a wedding like we planned. With all of our guests, the flower, the music, the gazebo. Rosemary said

Gazebo? Frank said

Yes, a gazebo. I promise to build Rosemary a gazebo for the ceremony. (Rosemary Charles) But honestly, um, with the mill being so busy, I kinda... I kinda forgot. Lee said

(Forced chuckles) He forgot. Isn't that just like a man? It's almost as if Our wedding is the last thing on his mind. Rosemary said

No no I didn't say that. Did I say that? I didn't say that. Lee said

Communication is key to any good marriage. Frank said

We communicate about everything don't we, Lee? Rosemary said

Oh, yes. Great communications. She does all the talking, I do all the listening. Lee said

(Chuckles) And the forgetting, apparently. Rosemary said

It's important to be open and honest and lay everything on the table as soon as possible. Frank said

We agree on just about everything, don't we, Lee? Rosemary said

Yep, two peas in a pod. Lee said

We want the same things in life. Rosemary said

Big house. Lee said

White picket fence. Rosemary said

Two cats. Lee said

A model T. Rosemary said

Five kids. Lee said

Five kid. What? Rosemary said

Five Kids. Children. You know, wee ones. Lee said

(Stammering) But children are very noisy and they come with diapers. (Whispers) do you know what's in those diapers? Rosemary said

So you don't want children? Would you just give us a... a second? Lee said

Children are so... sticky.

Meanwhile at the settlement

Erin, How's Eric? Jack said

Working hard. I hope he's gonna be all right. Erin said

You're worried about the rain in the mountains. Jack said

I heard some of the folks talking about how it washed out the road to the mine last year. Erin said

Ned Yost just sent up a wagon full of supplies. Even if the road is washed out they'll have plenty of food and clean water. Jack said

Our kids don't have time for school. We're just trying to survive. A woman said

There is nothing more essential than an education. Elizabeth said

They're not going to be scientists and doctor, miss thatcher. Whitley said

Well, they could be, if we just give them a chance. Elizabeth said

You don't know the first thing about our way of life. Whitley said

I'm a teacher, and I know important it is for children to learn. Elizabeth said

Miss Thatcher taught me to read! It's easy, once you know how. Natasha said

I'm sorry. We're not setting up a school here. There just isn't time for the children to sit for lessons. Whitley said

They said they would read us a story. Timmy said

All right. One story. Then it's time for your chores. Maggie you stay with your brother. She likes to wander off. Whitley said

I'll keep an eye on her. Come along. Elizabeth said

You know... I grew up dirt poor. Charlotte said

Then you know what it's like for us. Nancy said

I do. And the best thing I ever did was learn to read and write. It's why I became a teacher. I wanted to give back what I had been given. Charlotte said

That young lady means well, but she doesn't understand people like us. Whitley said

Ma'am ? May I tell you about that young lady? Elizabeth Letcher she's worked wonders for the children of Valley spring , and if she's willing to help your children, I think you should thank your lucky stars. There's not a teacher alive who is as dedicated and as talented as she is. Jack said

Except your mother. Charlotte said

(Chuckles) if you want a better life for your children, take her up on her offer. Jack said

Meanwhile at Silverton mine

I'll say one thing about this kind of work, Eric, makes me miss home. A mine said

Yeah, I'm not crazy about sleeping in a soggy tent with nine other guys either. Eric said

How long are you here the haul? The mine said

Three weeks. Erin said

That's a long time away from your wife and son. The mine said

How about you? Eric said

Three more days and I'm heading back. Not looking forward to a three-hour wagon ride but when I get home, you know, if I have two pennies to run together, I may even treat Nancy and Harper to dinner in town. The mine said

Meanwhile in the saloon

I came as soon as they left the bank. I thought you'd want to know right away. Jennifer said

Slow down. Who life the bank? Martin said

The said they were government auditors. I didn't like the kind of questions they were asking. Jennifer said

What questions? Martin said

It was the implementation of misuse of funds. Now, I told them all allocated go through your office, but they insisted on seizing the records. Jennifer said

You did the right thing by coming to me. Martin said

If there's anything else I can do. Jennifer said

Don't worry about it. I'll straighten this out. Martin said

Maybe I should , uh... Jennifer said

I said I'll handle it. Good afternoon Martin said

Meanwhile at the settlement

"But he just couldn't find frisky" a girl read out-loud

"But when Nathaniel climbed the stairs to his cozy bedroom, there was frisky, his treasured companion, sitting at the foot of the bed happily wagging his tail. The end." Natasha said

Can you read us another story? Harper said

There's another book in the series, but it's back in valley spring . Elizabeth said

Why don't you come for a visit? Natasha said

Can we? Maggie said

Please? Timmy said

We'll see what-what the other mother have to say. Whitley said

On the outskirts of Valley spring

Feels nice to be out of the kitchen for a while. Rosemary has certainly kept me busy. Abigail said

Well if you ever need a break just let me know. Frank said

Florence came by the cafe and asked an interesting question. Abigail said

Yeah? What did she want to know? Frank said

Well, she asked if ... well, if you and I were officially courting. Abigail said

What did you say? Frank said

What would you have said? Abigail said

Well, I would have told her the truth. I would have said yes. Frank said

That's what I said Abigail said

(Both Laughs)

Well now that it's official why don't you let me take you out to dinner at the saloon tomorrow night? Frank said

Oh I can't tomorrow night it's spaghetti night. It's Cody's favorite meal and we play games after dinner. Abigail said

Okay. Frank said

Unless you'd like to join us? Abigail said

Thought you'd never ask. Frank said

That night at the café

(Gasps) what a lovely sachet. Thank you, Florence. Rosemary said

Ooh, I read that fresh smelling clothes will always make a man happy. Florence said

I'll keep that in mind. Rosemary said

Elizabeth, wasn't Charlotte going to join us tonight? Abigail said

Oh, she said she was exhausted. Elizabeth said

Poor dear. She's probably tired from her long ride. I don't blame her at all for needing some rest. Rosemary said

Mrs. Thorsten is colorful, isn't she? Florence said

How are you two getting along? I hear she is staying with you. Molly said

Oh, she is a wonderful house guest, and very creative in the kitchen, and an early riser. I'll go get the punch and cookies. Elizabeth said

You know what? I'll help you. Rosemary said

(Women chuckles) Meanwhile at the saloon (men Laughing)

A toast to the man of the hour. Bill said

Here, here. four men said

Any man marrying Rosemary deserves more than an hour. Jack said

True! Frank said

And a poker game I think. Lee said

Well let's find a table, shall we? Frank said

Yes. Bill said

Jack? As you know, uh, each groom needs a best man, and I was thinking that, um... Lee said

I'd be honored, Lee. Jack said

Ah! I am assuming you know what it entails to be a best man? Lee said

The rings, of course. Jack said

Mmm-hmm. Lee said

And making sure Rosemary doesn't drive you crazy? Jack said

Yeah that's pretty much it, yep. Lee said

What's the game boys? Stud or draw? Bill said

I call stud. That is if you gents can use another player. Charlotte said

Well we always have room for a pretty lady. Bill said

Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my mother, Charlotte Thorsten. Jack said

Your mother? Bill and Frank said

Well, it's nice to finally meet you. Bill said

It's good to meet you. Frank said (has he shakes her hand)

My name's bill avenue. I worked with your husband years ago. He always had very fond things to say about you. Bill said

(Sighs) Well, Mr. Avenue, Perm what my husband told me about your poke skills it looks like I stand to do very well this evening. Charlotte said

Meanwhile back at the cafe

Rosemary is everything all right? You don't seem like your normal, bubbly self. Elizabeth said

Everything is just perfect. Why wouldn't it be? Rosemary said

No reason. Elizabeth said

(Sighs) oh, Elizabeth, i'm usually the one with all the answers. I'm the one with the advice column. I just don't know what to do. Rosemary said

About? Elizabeth said

Lee! We are so perfect matched we agree on everything now on there's children. Rosemary said

What about children? Elizabeth said

I don't think we agree about them at all! Rosemary said

About how to raise them? Elizabeth said

The whole concept in general. Rosemary said

Rosemary, you and Aaliyah love each other right ? You want to make each other happy? Elizabeth said

Completely and totally. Rosemary said

Well when two people feel that way about each other, they find answers, and finding the answer being them to get there it doesn't pull them apart. Elizabeth said

(Sighs) That's very wise. Maybe you should take over the advice column. Once I am a married woman I might not have the time Rosemary said

(Laughs) I doubt i could do it justice. Elizabeth said

You were having problems of your own? Rosemary said

(Whispering) it's Charlotte. We're so different. Elizabeth said

I'll let you in on a little secret. When God made that woman he broke the mold. There is not a person on this planet who has nothing in common with her. Rosemary said

(Both laugh)

She's very... unique. Elizabeth said

(Chuckles) unique. Yes let's go with that. Rosemary said

(Both laughing)

Meanwhile back at the saloon

Mmm-hmm charlotte said

Jack, you should've warned us that your mother's beauty belied her poker face. Bill said

She is full of surprise. Jack said

I am sorry to have cleaned you out at your own bachelor party. Charlotte said

It's all right. I always respect a winner. Lee said

Thank you, anyone want to place a wager on a friendly game of darts? Charlotte said

I think it's time we call it a night. Jack said

Killjoy. Good night Charlotte said

The next morning

(Laughs) I can't believe your mother ditched the bridal shower and crashed the bachelor party. She said she was tried. Elizabeth said

Must've gotten a second wind. Jack said

Sometimes, I don't Believe she is really your mother. Elizabeth said

Why not? Jack said

You and she are so different. Elizabeth said

She's a survivor. It Wasn't easy having Tom And Me so young, raising us by herself, and holding down a job. Look, I want to thank you for spending so much time with her. Jack said

It's my pleasure. Elizabeth said

Sure about that? Jack said

We're heading out for a duck hunt. What to come? Charlotte said

Sorry. I have paperwork. Jack said

Darn, I have school. Maybe next time. Elizabeth said

Did you get that button fixed? Charlotte said

I'll do it tonight. Jack

Don't forget. Charlotte said

Ma. Jack said

(Elizabeth Clears throat)

And you need a haircut! Charlotte said

Mom! Jack said

You can about her very much, don't you? Elizabeth said

Yeah. When she's not driving me crazy. Jack said

(Elizabeth Laughing)

Meanwhile at the mercantile

Hey, Clara. How would you like to go for a fancy dinner next Friday night? I got plenty of cash now. John said

No, thanks. Clara said

What about Saturday? John said

I know where that cash came from, John. You aren't working for Mr. Gowen. Clara said

(Laughs) so? He's the mayor. John said

That doesn't make him a good man. Clara said

Why don't you like him? John said

It's a long list. Let's just say he is not trustworthy. Clara said

He paid me I'd say that's pretty trustworthy. John said

What did he pay you to do? Clara said

I took care of some personal business for him. I collected a debt. John said

What did you have to do to collect? Clara said

Nothing. John said

If you want to see each other, you can't work for him. Clara said

Well then maybe I'll have to find someone else to take to dinner. John said

Maybe you should. Clara said

Coming out of the café

You said you had a favor to ask? Dottie said

I do. It's not an easy one. The bank has hired me to check into some possible problems with the town finances, which means I have to find out if Gowen's been up to anything. Bill said

I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding. Dottie said

Well, I don't know that until I look at his private ledgers. The ones in his office. Bill said

You're not asking me to (whispering) steal them, are you? Dottie said

No, no, no. I would never ask you to do something like that, but the townspeople do deserve to know if they are mayor has betrayed them. So I'm just wondering if there is anything that you feel you can share that might be of help. Bill said

Have you ever noticed there is a barrel outside the mayors office? Dottie said

I can't say as I have. Bill said

There's no reason you would. But there is something there that might be useful to someone who wants to know whether The mayor has been honest or not. Wait you didn't hear it from me. Dottie said

I'll tell you what, I'll join you as soon as I am finished with this. Elizabeth said

What are you doing with those books? Emily said

I'm giving them to the children at the settlement. Elizabeth said

I thought they didn't know how to read. Holly said

Well hopefully these books will help them learn. Elizabeth said

Why don't they have books of their own? Emily said

They don't have as many things as we do. Their parents don't even have enough money for proper houses. Their families traveling to a long way to start new lives here. There wasn't room to bring much things with them. Elizabeth said

I have some bucks at home that I can have. Emily said

I have some dolls. Holly said

Miles has some tin soldiers he doesn't play with anymore. Emily said

That's a wonderful idea, why don't you go ask the other children if they have anything they like to give as well? Elizabeth said

Is this going be sort of like kindness week? Holly said

It's the sort of kindness we should show people every day. Elizabeth said

That Night at the café

That's three more regrets. I can't believe people are canceling because of a silly little thing like the weather. Rosemary said

There is been some flooding in the hills. Abigail said

This one's from my dearest friend from New York, Calloway Penelope. Oh! Can you call leave it? She isn't coming because she's having a baby. Rosemary said

It's difficult to travel in her condition. Abigail said

Honestly? She should've planned ahead. I'm gonna go see Dottie about the bridesmaids dresses (sighs) Rosemary said

As soon as she shuts the front door

There sure is a big fuss about this wedding. Corey said

Well when it comes to Miss level there is always a big fuss. Abigail said

What's so special about a wedding anyway? Corey said

Wedding is a celebration of marriage, it is a lifelong commitment of love that two people give to each other. Doesn't get more special than that. Frank said

How old do you know if you want to marry each other? Corey said

It's something you feel in your heart. Frank said

And then what happens? Corey said

Then a man will ask a lady to be his wife. Frank said

But then she hast to say yes. Abigail said

Can pastors get married? Corey said

I'm one I've been told. Frank said

So when you going to ask miss Abigail? Corey said

(Gasps) Corey Abigail said

Do you have to pray about it? Corey said

Corey, I'm praying right now. Frank said

(Chuckles) Eat up, young man. Abigail said

The next morning on patrol

River is running pretty fast. Shouldn't be a problem for the settlement as long as there's no more rain. Bill said

Mmm. Or A log jam in the mountains. Jack said

All right up there later and take a look. Bill said

I'll go with you. I want to check the mind and make sure the roads are clear. Jack said

Good idea. Bill said

Bill didn't Jennifer talk to you about and Gowen? Jack said

Yeah, he said there some irregularities with the town's accounts. Bill said

I told Jennifer my hands were tied without a court order. Can't make Gowen show me his books without a subpoena. Jack said

You knew Jennifer would come to me, didn't you? Bill said

Well, you don't have to play by the rules. Jack said

Just the way I like it. Hyah! Bill said

Meanwhile at the cafe

I had such a great time last night. Frank said

I feel like I should apologize for Corey. Abigail said

ah, you don't need to apologize keep the change. I'll see you soon? Frank said as he finished paying for breakfast

More coffee Charlotte? Abigail said

Thank you, oh, I wish I could make it half as good as you do. Charlotte said

I have a secret ingredient. Abigail said

Lard? Charlotte said

Who put lard in coffee? Abigail said

Oh, just a wild guess. (Chuckles) so, what's going on between you and the pastor? Charlotte said

Well, how do you know anything's going on? Abigail said

Just another wild guess. Charlotte said

Frank and I are courting. Abigail said

How does your little boy feel about it? Charlotte said

Oh, Corey loves Frank. Abigail said

My boys were not that easy. Charlotte said

So you never met anyone after your husband died? Abigail said

I tried. In the end, I didn't want to rock the boat. Charlotte said

Is that the real reason? Abigail said

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I fell in love with Jack's father from the moment I met him. I figured something like that only comes along once in a lifetime. Charlotte said

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. Abigail said

It's too late now. Charlotte said

It's never too late to find true love again. Abigail said

Spoken like someone who has found it. Charlotte said

Meanwhile at the schoolhouse

I'm so glad the children were able to visit valley spring . Elizabeth said

Me too. Jack said

Can I pet Rip? Harper said

Oh course, you can. Jack said

Can he play fetch? Harper said

That depends on his mood. Let's find out. Jack said

Thanks for the baseball. You want to play catch? Timmy said

Sure. Corey said

It was kind of you to send a wagon for us. Nancy said

Even since you read them that story about Nathaniel and the dog, they've been asked about coming here. Whitley said

Would you like some more tea, brownie? Maggie said

He says yes, and he would like a cookie, too. Opal said

He's a very nice bear. Maggie said

Would you like him too stay with you for a while? Opal said

Could he? Maggie said

If you like, I'd be happy to make a trip to the settlement once a week for a lesson. I could bring some of the children with me. Elizabeth said

I don't know. There's... there's so much to do. Whitley said

Once a week wouldn't take too much time away from their chores. Elizabeth said

They're getting along so well. Nancy said

Meanwhile on a main sidewalk on the Main Street.

I don't know about this. Rorà said

I thought you said you wanted a fresh start? Martin said

But leaving town so soon. Rorà said

Well, you know me. When I get something in my mind I don't want to wait. You're not having second thoughts, are you? Martin said

No. Rorà said

You know I thought a lot about what you said. About this town, and about the bad blood in between Bill and I. I think we both know that's never going to end. This could be a new beginning for us I just don't see any point in putting it off. Martin said

Okay. Rorà said

Meanwhile down the street

I heard you had some visitors today at school? Charlotte said

I know you spoke with Mrs. Lacey she didn't just magically change her mind. Elizabeth said

No went wasn't me. It was jack. Charlotte said

Jack? Elizabeth said

Oh, he gave her a piece of his mind after she turned you down. Charlotte said

He did? Elizabeth said

My son thinks the world of you. Charlotte said

Well, I don't know about all that. Elizabeth said

Well, he doesn't and he is not an easy one to impress. Charlotte said

Like his mother? Elizabeth said

I have no idea what you're talking about. Charlotte said

(Elizabeth Laughing)

Meanwhile at Lee's office

Hello! Two more. Lee said

Oh! (Gasps) oh. How lovely. A gift from my Aunt Gertie in Minnesota. Which is strange, because I thought she had passed on. Rosemary said

Well, maybe it is Aunt Gertie. Lee said

Oh, you're such a tease. Rosemary said

Does all this stuff really have to be in my office though? Lee said

Where else are we going to put everything? And I can certainly can't ask people not to send Gifts. They're so happy for us except perhaps Callaway Penelope. Did I tell you she's not even coming to in the wedding? Rosemary said

Yes, you did mention it that's 15 times. Now 16 times, but it reminds me, Shane did send a telegram. Lee said

Hmm. "Dear Rosemary, Gennadi and I wish we could be in there to celebrate your special day." Hmm. " I thought you would like to know we have a little girl. We wanted her name to reflect beauty, kindness, and Grace, so we named... her Rosemary Penelope." Rosemary said

Well, how about that? They named their daughter after you. Lee said

I don't know quite what to say. Rosemary said

Sometimes, that's a good thing. Lee said

a little girl named Rosemary. And they want her to grow up just like me. Rosemary said

Who can blame them? Lee said

Oh, Lee, I think this might be the best gift of all (sniffles) Rosemary said

meanwhile Jack's office (Door opens)

What's with this Town? They roll up the sidewalks at 9 o'clock. The café closes, your lady friend is working on her storytelling, and I cannot find a poker game to save my life. Charlotte said

Well, then I guess I got you all to myself tonight. Jack said

(Chuckles) hey did you get that button fixed? Charlotte said

Yeah, ma. I got some button fixed. Ma. Can we talk about something? Jack said

You name it. Thank you. Charlotte said

(Sighs) I want to know what you think about Elizabeth. Jack said

What kind of a question is that? Charlotte said

Would you just answer, please? Jack said

The real question is what the heck is going on between the two of you? Charlotte said

What's that supposed to mean? Jack said

Jack, you have been seeing Lizzy for a long time now. I'd say it's time to ride or get out of the saddle. Charlotte said

Yeah, well, things haven't always been easy between us. Jack said

They should be. Charlotte said

Yeah, they should be, but you and I both know life isn't like that. Jack said

I just want you to be happy. Charlotte said

Sometimes, I wonder. Jack said

Oh, there's that sass again. Charlotte said

Come here. I love you, you know that? Jack said

Oh, I love you, too, son. Charlotte said

Meanwhile outside the mayor's office

(Indistinct chatter) (Bill goes inside the mayor's office for yet there was a key under a barrel outside the office)

The next morning

Oh, my goodness. (Gasps) it's so beautiful. Elizabeth said

You really like it? Jack said

(Laughs) Yes! Why? Elizabeth said

Because it's mine. I signed the papers today. Jack said

Jack, what made you decide to do it? Elizabeth said

Rip said it was getting a little too crowded at the jail, so... (Elizabeth Laughs) Now I just got to save up enough to... to build a place, a big kitchen, three, four bedrooms. Jack said

That's an awfully big house for one office. Could get lonesome. Elizabeth said

Well, there's always Rip. Jack said

Good old rip. Elizabeth said

Maybe some chickens. Jack said

Sure. You'll need lots of chickens. Elizabeth said

A goat. Jack said

Goats are good. Elizabeth said

Yeah. Jack said

Anything else? Elizabeth said

Any idea? Jack said

A couple. Elizabeth said

Like? Jack said

Well, you'll need a guestroom for when your mother comes to visit. Elizabeth said

Well, I can't forget about mama. Jack said

Mmm-hmm. And a nice feather bed for your Blankie. Elizabeth said

My blankie? She didn't tell you about–— Jack said

She did. Elizabeth said

She really needs to stop sharing so much. Jack said

(Laughs) I know all about your blankie, and how are you wouldn't go to sleep unless you had it with you keep you warm. Elizabeth said

Well, I guess I'm going to have to figure out another way to keep warm at night. Jack said

(Thunder rumbling) as he moves to kiss her. (Both laughing) as it begins to rain

Meanwhile in town at the saloon (Door opens)

Bill! They're gone. Dottie said

Who? Bill said

Martin And Rorà. When I got home, I found this note she left for me. Dottie said

"I'm sorry, but Martin says there's no time for goodbyes." He must've left by the south road. It's the only way that safe after all the rain. Bill said

What are you going to do? Dottie said

Find him! Bill said (Thunder crashing)

Meanwhile at the Silverton mine (Grunts)

Last load of the day A Meininger said

Yeah. Can't come soon enough. Eric said

(Loud rumbling)

Do you hear that? A Meininger said

I think we should get out of here. Eric said

A minor comes running in yelling It's a landslide!

Come on! Run run! Eric said

Meanwhile on the south road going out of valley spring .

Maybe we should turn around and head back. Rorà said

Now we don't stop until we make it to Lost Hills. Martin said

Why? Rorà said

Just trust me, Rorà. You know, nobody appreciates what I've done what I go through every day. Martin said

Martin watch out! Rorà said (Rorà screams) (crashing)

It was hard for our friends at the settlement to hear the news of a landslide but as we rode back into town my worry is shifted to the challenges closer to home. Elizabeth said

Morning ladies. Jack said

Morning. Elizabeth said

Do you know you are the first person we've seen all morning? Seems folks around here like to sleep in. Charlotte said

Your mother had us up at five again. Elizabeth said

Well you know what they say, the early bird gets the warm. Charlotte said

Is that what's in the baskets? Jack said

Berries. Elizabeth said

Nothing like a county breakfast. Fruits, bacon, eggs... Charlotte said

Scrambled with lots of lard. Elizabeth said

Mmm. Charlotte said

Well too bad I am already eaten. Jack said

What a shame. Elizabeth said

Hate to leave you ladies out here by yourselves but I gotta take Rip for a walk. Jack said

Are you sure you I have to go? Elizabeth said

Oh, don't worry it'll give us more time to get to know each other. Charlotte said

Your mother was just telling me how much when she was a teacher she used to walk to her school in the snow drifts ten feet deep. Elizabeth said

Ten feet deep? I grew up hearing it was five. Jack said

There's that sass again. Charlotte said

(Chuckles) enjoy your walk. Jack said

Did you know that, when he was a little boy, he used to sneak out of the house and run around in the rain without a stitch of clothes on? Charlotte said

Really? Elizabeth said

See you later? Jack said

As Jack comes into the jailhouse

Jack! I'm so glad you're back. Faith said

What happened? Jack said

There was a mudslide. At the mine it's bad. There's a lot of people injured. Eric said

Stay with him. I'll get as many men as I can to ride up there. Jack said

Maybe I should go to the mine with you. Faith said

Can't risk you getting hurt. Jack said

I'll set up the school as an extra infirmary. There's no telling how many patients I'm going to have. Faith said

Good idea. Go. Jack said

(As yet Abigail and Frank put baskets of piles of blankets in a wagon)

I hope we've collected enough blankets. Abigail said

Maybe you could check with folks, see if there's anything else they can donate. Frank said

I'll knock on every door. Abigail said

I know you will. Frank said

(as Lule and a couple other Man Hunter horses two wagons)

Are you sure the roads are safe? Rosemary said

(Sighs) safe enough. Lee said

What if there's another landslide? Rosemary said

I think that's a chance we're just going have to take. Lee said

Lee, promise me you'll be careful. Rosemary said

I promise. Lee said

I don't want to be a widow before I'm even married. Rosemary said

I'll be fine. Lee said

In the background, you can hear "Quickly, now. Let's move, men. Let's load up."

Dottie! Jack said

Jack. Dottie said

Dottie... have you see Bill? Jack said

He left town on business last night. Dottie said

Okay. Thanks. Jack said

Jack... we packed you some food. Elizabeth said

Hickman. Take this? Thanks. Jack said

I got it. Hickman said

(As jack Polls Elizabeth to him and hugged her)

Don't worry. I'll see you soon. Jack said

You better... or I won't forgive you. Elizabeth said

(As jack mounts up on Sarge) Ready? Let's ride! Jack said

A little time later at the schoolhouse

The cots can go up against the far wall for now. We'll set them up after Faith said

All right, everyone, now, as you can see, our schoolhouse is going to be very busy today. So, we'll be moving class to Abigail's cafe. Now, I have to go out of town for a little while, but miss level has graciously agreed to be your teacher for today. Elizabeth said

Hello, children. Now I know that this is a big treat for all of you and I promise we'll have lots of fun. Yes, dear? Rosemary said

Our kind of fun or you're kind of fun? Holly said

I promise we can come up with something together. Rosemary said

Yes, the doubtful looking young man. Rosemary said

Miss thatcher? Is it true a bunch of people got killed up in the mountains? Robert said

We don't know what happened yet Robert but constable Thorsten and some of that other men are going to help. Elizabeth said

Is the mud going to come here? Corey said

Oh, definitely not. No, our town is going to be just fine. Elizabeth said

Why do you have to go? Opal said

Opal, do you remember Timmy and Maggie and Harper from the settlement? (Little Opal is shaking her head Elizabeth) Well some of them have daddies who work in the mine, and when they find out about what happened, they're probably going to be very scared. Elizabeth said

But you'll come back, right? Opal said

Miss Thatcher always comes back, and I'll take care of you while she's gone. Emily said

Thank you, Emily. (Sighs) All right, everyone, if you could just line up two by two, please. Elizabeth said

How long will you be away? Rosemary said

Oh, probably the rest of the day, by the time we get out there and ride back. Elizabeth said

Really? That long? Rosemary said

Are you having second thoughts? Elizabeth said

Oh, not about the children, no we'll be fine. Rosemary said

Then what is it? Elizabeth said

It's just... at times like these... I'll feel better once we're all back here again, together and safe. All right, children. Follow me. Rosemary said

Bye! Have a good time. And behave. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile along the south road with Bill on horseback

Somebody, help! Somebody! Rorà said

Rorà bill said

Help! Rorà said

Hyah! (Horse whinnies) Rorà! Rorà Bill said

Down here! Rorà said

Are you all right? Bill said

It's Martin. I can't move him myself. Rorà said

Meanwhile on the road up to the Silverton mine.

Hold up! Whoa. Jack said

Whoa. Lee said

As they came upon a humongous long across the road.

It's too big for the wagons to get around. Jack said

This is not how I saw myself spending the days before my wedding. I hope it's not a bad sign. Lee said

Don't worry, Rosemary's not gonna let a little bad weather ruin her plans. Jack said

Ah, if Mother Nature knows what's best for her, she'll back off. Lee said

Ready? Jack said (Frank, Lee, Hickman And Jack. All grunting)

I think a lot of trees come down in the storm. Well, with the wind we've been having,I am not surprised. (Pants) Frank said

could be a problem if they're jamming the river. Ready? Jack said

Easy. Hickman said

(All panting) okay

Meanwhile at the settlement

It's never easy to deliver news like this, but there's been a mudslide at the Silverton mine. Abigail said

I knew something bad was gonna happen up there. I just knew it. Nancy said

Is Eric all right? Erin said

Eric, As well as another minor were the ones who came to town to tell us. Abigail said

Do you know if any of the other Man were hurt? Whitley said

We haven't heard much, but Constable Thorsten is leading a group of volunteers up there now. (Sobbing Nancy.) Oh, I know I know, we had a terrible accident and our minds several years ago. I know it's hard. We have to be strong. Abigail said

Miss Thatcher, why is Mrs. Mackenzie crying? Maggie said

I know it's hard. Abigail said (sobbing)

There was an accident at the mine. Elizabeth said

What kind of accident? Timmy said

A mudslide. Elizabeth said

My daddy works there. Harper said

I know, Harper. A lot of you have daddies who work at the mine, but I think your daddies would want you to be brave so your mommies don't worry. Do you think you could do that? Elizabeth said

I don't know. Maggie said

Brownie is scared too. But he says if you'll be brave he will, too. Elizabeth said

I'll be brave for brownie. Maggie

I think brownie could use a hug. All right, everyone, come inside. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile up at the Silverton mine

(Straining) (pants) Hay! We got man trapped inside and some buried out here in the mud. A minor said

All right, don't worry, we'll get them out. Okay, man, let's unload those wagons! Move quickly! Frank we're going to need some blankets over here from the injured minors. John, grab some men and some shovels and help with that wall of mud. Jack said

Let's go. Come on, John said

Several hours later I'm back in Valley Springas Abigail creeks back door open of the café

(Both Abigail And Elizabeth gasps coming in)

Shh. I just got them all down. That Robert is quite the little scamp! Rosemary said

I'm surprise they went to sleep at all! They never take naps at school. Elizabeth said

Well I was desperate. We ran out of things to do and they were starting to become a bit challenging so... Rosemary said

So? Elizabeth said

... I bribed them. Just a little. Rosemary said

Oh, I can't wait to hear this. Abigail said

I told them that I knew a man who worked in the circus, The ringmaster himself. And I promise, if they were good and went to sleep that... I'd bring the circus to town. Rosemary said

Hmm. Elizabeth said

Have you given any thought to her how you're going to convince Lee to bring The circus to town? Abigail said

Not ... exactly. Rosemary said

I'd want Until after the honeymoon. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile app at the Silverton mind

(Indistinct chatter)

I'm dying, aren't I? A minor said

Save your strength. We're gonna get you home. Frank said

Pastors always are terrible liars. I'm going home, just not with you. The minor said

It's gonna be okay. Stay with me, here. Frank said

Tell my wife tell her I love her. Always will. And my boy, tell him I'm proud of him. The minor said

What's your boy's name? Frank said

Harper. The minor said

Harper? I know your son. He's a good boy. Jack said

Promise you'll tell him The minor said

(Sighs) He's gone Frank said

Meanwhile in lost Hills at hospital.

(Sighs) Bill

Did you talk to the doctor? Rorà said

He said it's touch and go. Bill said

Martin when it be alive at all if it wasn't for you. I told him to slow down, but he wouldn't listen. Rorà said

Rorà, where are you going? Bill said

Are you sad or we should start over somewhere new. We thought lost Hills. Rorà said

Why was Martin in such a hurry? Bill said

I'm not sure, but something was wrong. Rorà said

I have to go. Word is a flood hit the valley near The west side here in Lost Hills. Remember Lauren Benjamin? Bill said

Carl's daughter? Rorà said

She lives out there alone. I want to make sure she's okay. Bill said

Be safe. Rorà said

Meanwhile in valley spring

I hope this is enough Elizabeth said

You can never I have enough when something like this happens Abigail said

We're not prepared to run a hospital. We don't even know how many are injured. Florence said

Well river already canvassed The whole town. We'll just have to make do with what we have. Elizabeth said

God doesn't give you more than you can handle. Abigail said

All right! All right!, all right. I know what you're all thinking, so ... you might as well come out and say it. Rosemary said

Say what? Elizabeth said

If we were short on bandages ... we could use the fabric that i ordered. Rosemary said

Fabric? What fabric? Florence said

You know perfectly well what fabric. Fabric for my bridesmaids dresses. Rosemary said

Rosemary... are you sure? Elizabeth said

Yes. I'm sure. Dottie, Let me just say though... There will be more than elegant bandages in the entire history of medicine Rosemary said

(All laughing)

Meanwhile up at the Silverton mine

Everyone accounted for? Jack said

Looks like it. How bad is it? John said

That's two dead, a couple of dozen injured. Jack said

Guess it could've been worse. John said

(Sighs) maybe I will feel that way later. (Exhales) Jack said

(Exhales) might be a little tricky getting down the mountain at night. Frank said

Let's just get the fires going, get everyone to wrap themselves in blankets. We'll head back at sun-up. John, head back to town. Tell them to expect all the injured man first thing in the morning. Jack said

Whoa, whoa. (Horse whinnies) hyah! John said

Meanwhile in town at the schoolhouse

That should do it. Elizabeth said

Yes. Well I'll help faith with the clothing, now. Rosemary said

Rosemary level volunteering to shred her own bridesmaids dresses. Life is full of surprises. ( sighs) but I don't have to tell you with that. How are you getting along with Charlotte? Abigail said

I just wish we had more in common. Elizabeth said

You do have something in common. You both love jack very much. Abigail said

(Door opens) John, on the men and back? Elizabeth said

They'll be here in the morning. Constable wanted you to know there is at least 20 miners who were injured, some are looking pretty bad. John said

Oh. Well, we'll do what we need to do. Faith said

Is frank... Are the men from Valley Springsafe ? Abigail said

They're fine. But there is a problem on my way back there was a logjam in the river. A whole lot of water being backed up behind there. The settlement by the river right in the path. They're gonna get wiped out. John said

If those people don't get out of there before the flood hits. Elizabeth said

They're not going to make it. John said

(Woman exclaiming)

Me and while on the opposite side of the lost Hills

Whoa whoa, whoa. Lauren? Lauren! Bill said

Here! Lauren said

Lauren! (Strains) Are you hurt? bill said

It's my leg. It's stuck. Lauren said

What happened? Bill said

I was feeding the chickens when the flood came. The coop fell on my leg. It's really starting to hurt. Lauren said

Hang on, honey. I am going to get you out of there. Bill said

What are you doing? Lauren said

Trying to get this off of you. Whoa, boy. Whoa, whoa. Okay, boy, back. Bill said

(Groans groans Lauren)

Come here. Put your arm around me. Attagirl. You're doing great. Okay. Bill said

Meanwhile in valley spring

We don't have time to wait for the man to get back. We're gonna have to ride out there and evacuate the settlement. Abigail said

Well I have to find places for them in town. Elizabeth said

Dottie, go to the row houses see if anyone there can take some of these people in. Abigail said

Of course. Dottie said

Might want to put some beds in the saloon? John said

That's a good idea. Florence you're in charge of that. Abigail said

I'll get right to work. Florence said

I'll help you with that. John said

Thank you. John said

We'll need to find food for all of them. Who knows how long they'll be here. Elizabeth said

Well, we'll feed as many as we can at the café. Clara that's where you come in. Abigail said

The miners, the settlers, their families, plus everyone who lives here. I am still not sure we'll have enough to go around. Clara said

Yes, we will. I was expecting 70 guest for my reception with a choice of four entrées. We should be fine. Rosemary said

Rosemary, your wedding dinner? Elizabeth said

Well be just a wonderful even if it's just grits and beans. Rosemary said

I could use some help in the kitchen. Clara said

Duty calls. Rosemary said

Who'd like to find us some wagons? Will meet in front of the jail at first light. Abigail said

Do you need us to do anything else? Faith said

Pray. Abigail said

The next morning up at the Silverton mine

Well this is The last of it. Frank said

I'll film better when we get everyone back to valley spring . Jack said

We better take it slow on that trail. We don't want anyone with internal injuries to take a beating on the road. Lee said

Let's assign a healthy man to every wagon. If they feel like we need to stop for someone just have them call out. Jack said

We did a good thing here, Jack. La odds were against us but Providence was on our side. Frank said

(Hooves clopping)

What are you doing back here? Jack said

There is a logjam in the river it's about to burst. It'll send a flash letter right through the settlement. John said

How long do we have? Jack said

From what I saw, could be anytime. The ladies are riding back to warn them. John said

Frank, get these men back to Valley SpringI'm heading for the settlement. Jack said

Meanwhile in the settlement

We need to move faster every one we got to get away from the river. Abigail said

But what about our things? Erin said

You have Oliver. That's all that matters. Elizabeth said

But what about my dishes and his crib? Erin said

They can be replaced you can't. Elizabeth said (Pants)

(Indistinct shouting)

Mrs. Andrew, come on! Nancy said

I ain't leaving. If the good Lord wants to take me, it's all right by me. Mrs. Andrew said

Please... Nancy said

I'm not moving Mrs. Andrew said

Is everything okay? Abigail said

She won't go. Nancy said

Let me give it a try. Abigail said

Okay. She's all yours. Nancy said

Mrs. Andrew, I'm Abigail Stanton. I know you're not happy about— Abigail said

I lived my life. If it here, so be it. Mrs. Andrew said

So, no one's gonna miss you when you're gone? Abigail said

My husband's been dead for 20 years. Mrs. Andrew said

My husband passed too. So I know what it's like to live alone and I used to feel pretty sorry for myself. And when that happens do you know what time did? I got up and I got going. And that's what you need to do. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and live even moments the good Lord has given you. Abigail said

I am staying put. Mrs. Andrew said

You get your self in one of those wagons right this instant, or I'm going to pick up and toss you in there myself, rocking chair and all! Abigail said

(Grumbles Mrs. Andrew)

W where are we going? Timmy said

Valley spring , where you' ll be safe. Elizabeth said

Well my daddy be there? Harper said

Uh, we will see when we get there. Has anyone see Maggie? Elizabeth said

She was here a minute ago. Harper said

She left opal's teddy bear at the tea party she was having with her dolls, so she went back to get him. Timmy said

Where was the tea party, Timmy? Elizabeth said

Near the pine tree by the river. Timmy said

(Gasps Elizabeth pants)

Jack! Jack, Maggie's missing. The children think she went down to the river, and I was just going to look for her. Elizabeth said

I'll get her. Get everyone out of here as fast as you can! Jack said (Horse whinnies)

Elizabeth! We gotta go. Abigail said

All right. Everyone, hold on! We're leaving. Elizabeth said

( water running)

Maggie! Maggie! Maggie Stay right there! I'm gonna come to you, okay? Jack said

(Water crashing) whoa! (Horse whinnies)

(Maggie Screams)

Meanwhile in valley spring

Broke arm? School. Faith said

(Groans)

I wrapped her lag as best I could, but it's swelling. Bill said

Okay. Help her over to the Infirmary. I'll check on her when I can. Faith said

Watch your step, young man. Now, there you go. Careful. Oh, gentlemen, there's hot soup over in the cafe if you're hungry. Abigail said

Thank you ma'am. A old man said

How can I help? Charlotte said

Why don't you take the children to the saloon? They can bunk there, for now. Abigail said

Let's go inside, where it's warm. Does that sound good? Come on. Charlotte said

(Indistinct talking)

Oh, no... Abigail said

Are you sure it was him? Nancy said

Yeah. Frank said

I'm so sorry. Abigail said

(Sobs)

(Man) (we need some help here!)

(Horse whinnies)

If anyone knows what these poor people are going through, it's us Florence said

I just wish there was more we could do to help them. Molly said

Is the saloon full? Elizabeth said

We can still talk a few more. Molly said

Good. Go ahead. Have you seen. Jack anywhere? Elizabeth said

No. Well maybe mr. County has. Florence said

Lee? Elizabeth

Yeah? Lee said

Do you know where Jack is? Elizabeth said

Uh, no, I haven't seen him. Maybe he's at the schoolhouse. Lee said

No, I was just there. I haven't seen him since we were leaving the settlement. Elizabeth said

Well, he's got to be somewhere. Lee said

(Horse whinnies) (gasps) (mumbles)

Settlement's flooded out Everything's gone Troy said

Come here, sweetie. Lee said

I found this one wandering along on the trail. Troy said

Maggie? Have you seen Constable Thorsten? Elizabeth said

What happened? Do you know where he went? Elizabeth said

The water took him away. Maggie said (trembling)

(Gasps)

Elizabeth, where are you going? Lee said

I need to find JACK! Anyone who can find a horse, follow me. Elizabeth said

You heard her! Mount up! Bill said

Somebody needs to tell Charlotte. Lee said

I'll tell her. Bill said

Jack! Jack! Elizabeth said

Whoa whoa. Frank said

Jack! Frank said

Jack Lee said

Jack! A man said

Jack! John said

Jack! He's down there! Jack! (Cries) Elizabeth said

He's alive. I got a pulse. Frank

We found him! He's over here! Elizabeth said

Come on! Let's go! John said

Sometimes later at Abigail's

(Sighs) He's suffering from exposure. He wouldn't have lived much longer if you hadn't found him when you did. Faith said

Faith, shouldn't he be in the Infirmary? Abigail said

I can treat him here. He'll be more comfortable. There's some pretty bad bruising, but I didn't find any broken bones. Faith said

That's good news. Charlotte said

(Exhales) The bad news is ... his fingernails are blue. It's an early sign of pneumonia. Faith said

(Exhales Elizabeth)

Just how bad is it? Charlotte said

It's hard to say just yet, but we'll keep him warm, of course, and we'll force liquids (sighs) I'll be back to check on him. Faith said

Faith? I'm really glad you're here. Elizabeth said

If there's anything I can do for you ... faith said

We can take turns sitting with him. Abigail said

No, I'll stay with him. For as long as it takes. Elizabeth said

Elizabeth... Abigail said

I want to. Elizabeth said

I'd like to stay too. Charlotte said

Of course. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile outside the schoolhouse

I can carry that for you. Corey said

Oh, isn't that dear of you? Here you go. Rosemary said

Constable Thorsten's a friend of yours, right? Corey said

He is, indeed. A very good friend. Rosemary said

Are you worried about him? Corey said

Now, Corey. We're all worried about what might happen, but I learned a long time ago worrying in advance doesn't make things any easier. Rosemary said

Then what does? Corey said

Keeping busy, and taking care of others. (Gasps) As a matter of fact, I think that's someone who needs you to take care of them right now. Someone who is more worried about constable Thorsten than you are. Rosemary said

Who's that? Corey said

That silly old dog of his. Rosemary said

Do you mean Rip? Corey said

Yes. Rip. I think you should find Rip right away, and make sure he's all right. I bet he's pretty scared. Rosemary said

I bet he's more scared than I am! Corey said

Well, then you are just gonna have to cheer him up. Rosemary said

Do you think you could carry this the rest of the way? Corey said

I'll manage. Rosemary said

Meanwhile at the cafe (Door opens)

How is he? Frank said

Faith thinks it might be pneumonia. When I was younger, my aunt died from it, and the family across the road lost a grandfather. Abigail said

Well, I know people who've recovered. Frank said

You do? Abigail said

Young man, Jack's age. But Jack is strong. Frank said

This town has been through so much. If anything happens to Jack... Abigail said

We take this one day at a time. Frank said

I was thinking - - Abigail said

I was thinking the same thing. We'll hold a prayer vigil, tonight after sundown. (Exhales) we'll get through this. Frank said

Meanwhile in the saloon.

I heard Mayor Gowen was in a car accident. Jennifer said

You heard right. Bill said

Is he going to make it? Jennifer said

Not sure yet. Bill said

(Sighs) I don't know what to do. Should I inform the town council about the missing money? Jennifer said

Mr. Jennifer, I think everybody has enough to worry about right now. Let's leave this for another day, shall we? Bill said

Meanwhile at the cafe

I remember when Jack was about four... (sighs) he was sick as a dog. I sat with him day and night, for a week. I want to be mad at him... but I can't because he was doing what he was supposed to do. Charlotte said

He saved a lot of lives. Elizabeth said

But if would be terrible until to lose two men because of their courage. Charlotte said

It wouldn't be fair at all. Elizabeth said

I need some air. Charlotte said

(Cries) Oh, Jack. I know things haven't always been easy for us... but from the first day, I met you ... I knew that no matter what ... we were meant for each other. I'm sorry for everything I ever said or did that hurt you... if I could, I'd take it all back. I know good meant for us to have a life together. (Sniffles) That's way you can't leave. Not right now. Please stay with me. Elizabeth said

Elizabeth had fallen and Shareen their first picnic on the pond when his binder joined them by crawling on her for yet she fell right now putting Jack for a she did not Per for spiders as well as their first dance on their first date or when they both decided to stay in Valley Spring after getting a different job opportunities elsewhere I am pond him kissing her for the first time and he yet falling asleep to get in there at the Homestead upon their first New Year's thing and there. She had been asleep for several hours Elizabeth? Abigail said

(Gasps) I guess I feel asleep. Elizabeth said

Why don't you come downstairs and get something to eat? I'll sit with Jack. Abigail said

I'm not hungry. Elizabeth said

He'd want you to take care of yourself. Abigail said

I'm not leaving him, do you think he knows I'm here? Elizabeth said

Oh, of course, he does. Abigail said

I feel so alone. Elizabeth said

No. You're never alone. Abigail said

(Sob) Elizabeth

(Footsteps approaching)

How is he? Charlotte said

The same. Elizabeth won't leave his side, so I'm going to bring some tea up to her. Abigail said

I don't know who we should be worried about more, her or him. Charlotte said

I know how she feels. Abigail said

So do I. I'll take up the tea. Charlotte said

Charlotte... it's okay to cry. Abigail said

Crying doesn't do anyone any good. Charlotte said

The night at the candle vigil

I know we're all thinking about Jack, but now it's time to come together and pray for our community. Dear Lord, we come before you now in this of struggle. We surrender the lives and health of our loved ones into your caring hands. Frank said

Meanwhile Upstairs of the cafe

I wish you could see what's happening out there. The whole town's praying for healing. For you to get better. Can you to that for them? How about for me? It's all right. I can wait. For as long as it takes. Do you remember our New Year's resolution? To be patient, to be kind. Not to rush... But to take our time. Elizabeth said

But not... Not to take to much time. Jack said (Jack groans)

Jack! (groans) Sorry! Sorry. Elizabeth said

A week later Elizabeth Journal Some people think, because Valley Spring is a small town on the edge of the frontier, that life moves at a slower pace. But everything happened quickly in the week after the flood and then tragedy at the mine. Jack recovered ... and while he did, I finished my manuscript, and sent it off to half a dozen different publishers. In the meantime, Charlotte insisted on cooking all of Jack's favorite meals... and he survived those as well. Most of the settlers moved to higher ground... and Rosemary realized that a simple wedding to the man she loved was all that she really needed. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile at church

What happened with the gazebo? Frank said

Oh, well... (chuckles) we ran out of time for the gazebo. Lee said

Well, it looks lovely in here. I'm sure she'll be very happy. Frank said

Yeah, I hope so. Lee said

The bride will be here soon. Abigail says she's just making some last-minute adjustments to her hair. Hickman said

Ah, her hair. (Inhales) maybe I will have time to build the gazebo, after all. Lee said

(Laughs) I'll hold you to that. Frank said

Okay. Lee said (lee clears throat)

Never been to a wedding before. John said

They're always beautiful. Clara said

Clara... after that's happened here, I was thinking about what you said ... And you were right. Some things are more important than money. John said

I'm glad to hear you say that. Clara said

Meanwhile at the cafe

Tsk. Why did it have to be damp today? Look at what it's doing to my curls. Rosemary said

Oh, Rosemary, you're stunning. Trust me. Abigail said

Really? Because I was going for "breathtaking." (Rosemary Sighs) I guess "stunning" will have to do. Well, this is it. Rosemary said

(Sighs) Looks like you found the right man to make you happy. Charlotte said

I did. Rosemary said

I want you to know, even though things didn't work out between you and Jack, you'll always be like a daughter to me. Charlotte said

Thank you for that. (Laughs) Rosemary said

(Sighs)

I think you've found the right man, too. Charlotte said

You do? Elizabeth said

Look, I know what Jack things. I did not come here to give you my stamp of approval. I don't think it's anybody's business to meddle in someone else's personal affairs. Charlotte said

Even if that someone is your son? Elizabeth said

Especially if it's my son. (Laughs) I know that we don't have a lot in common, and I know it wasn't easy having me underfoot. Charlotte said

That's not true. It's a little true. (Laughs) Elizabeth said

All I ever wanted for Jack was that he find someone who would love him as much as I do. Charlotte said

And give him as much sass as you do? Elizabeth said

(Laughs) That's right. And I think he's found her. But promise me that you'll teach me how to make your shepherd's pie one day. Charlotte said

(Laughs) deal. Elizabeth said

Well, it's time. Abigail said

Jack. I never realized the meaning of the words "best man" until I met you. Thank you, Lee said

Your welcome. Jack said

(Door opens) (violin plays "the Wedding March") "as opals, Spread's flowers. Corey, follows praise shoot his ring bear followed by them bridesmaids Florence, Dottie, Abigail, Elizabeth and then, of course, the bride she hands full hair flower bouquet 💐 to hold."

Wow! I am the luckiest man in the world. Lee said

Not half as lucky as I am. Rosemary said

(Exhales Lee)

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. May you always share with each other the gifts of love. Be one in heart and in mind. May you always create a home together that puts in your heart love, generosity, and kindness. These two lives are now joined in one unbroken circle. May what God has brought together let no man pull asunder. And may they find in each other love everlasting and pure. Rosemary, Lee, I Now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride. Frank said

(All cheering) as opal gets her bouquet to her.

(Gasps) almost forgot! Rosemary said

(All gasping) as Rosemary phthisis her bouquet. (Rosemary Laughs) as Elizabeth not only gasps as she catches it.

A week later on a stormy afternoon, Elizabeth bumps and turns on her radio in her house
