Just a little insight I thought I'd type out. I wanted to let y'all see this from another perspective so that I can move things along. Hope this excites you!
Third Person POV
"What is the current state of our newborn?" Aro's voice rang out clearly, tilting his head toward his apprentice, the connection reader. Marcus.
Marcus sat so painfully still, with his bored eyes and statue-like form. His loyalty was forever bound to Aro by Chelsea, who released her frightening bonding powers onto David just a short, couple of weeks ago. His milky red irises, matching Aro's, stared straight ahead, focusing on nothing. He'd contemplated telling Aro, much more so at the beginning of this. He planned to call out the danger of the relationship between the human and his precious son Alec so quickly, as soon as he'd spotted it; to snuff out the flame that created a hopeful light in the darkness of his reality. To destroy anything that would assure the downfall of the Volturi. Why? Because he was forced to. He was bound. He was trapped, just like the two humans-er, rather, new immortal and remaining human. The two children.
But, something caught his attention. He just couldn't.
This was the first disloyal strike that he already knew would get him killed. No one would dare go against Aro, especially with Chelsea at hand.
Marcus knew something was happening. He knew the bond between the human and Alec was growing, growing, growing every second of the day. It became stronger, knitting together slowly like the work of a fetus in its mother's womb. Slowly, but now accelerating. Marcus knew that it would grow into something more powerful than Aro himself, more sure and strong than Alec's own bond with Jane, than Edward Cullen's bond with Isabella Swan, and even more so than his own love for Didyme.
For the first time in eons, Marcus' interest was sparked.
He knew that Chelsea's power was waning, that the bond wouldn't last long. He felt the bonds move, switch, break free of all of the holds that were trying to hold it down. He'd never experienced anything like it before. He'd never seen anything like the human they gained before. But he knew. He knew it was her essence alone that was breaking all of it, preventing any new bonds from forming. Chelsea could try, but it would never fare against the human.
She was powerful, and she didn't even know it.
She could end the entire Volturi clan. And Marcus knew she could. He'd gladly allow it, as he held no hope for living without his own mate. He'd hoped for nothing but death these last thousands of years, but the only thing standing in between his wish was Chelsea.
He knew from the beginning that the human would be powerful. She reminded him of his own mate, Didyme, who had been long gone. He saw the hope that Alec and Cheyenne's bond held, one that could surpass all power ever held in the Volturi. That small spark had continued to grow into a small ember, slowly loosening Marcus from Chelsea's hold. Slowly, day by day, every time he saw growth, it continued. He'd never seen anything like it. He never entertained the thought of anything possible like this.
His lips twitched so slightly, that even his brothers didn't see. He watched the rope-like bind of Chelsea's power tremble, threatening to slip away from the new immortal. The bond was quickly losing. Aro had thought that David wouldn't be any use, as he was just a pawn for the female human. But...oh, was he wrong.
He was special, too.
The more time the two children spent together, the more his hope grew. He knew this would mean his own death by allowing the rules to be broken, by lying to his own master. But, now, in his own mind, Marcus had a new master.
And she was giving him life. She was giving Alec life.
A chance, he thought in a wisp.
He thought nothing could compare to his and Didyme's undeniable connection, but he was wrong.
She was giving them all the chance to be free, once and for all.
And he was going to help her.
Their bond interested him so much, enough to change his very being. Change was happening in all of them. He saw it in Alec, saw it in Jane, in Demetri, Felix...himself. A warm, sibling friendship had bloomed between Felix and the human; a strong bond to last for eternity. A trusting friendship.
Aro trusted Marcus so much; he never worried that Marcus would be disloyal. There was no distrust, as he was so sure of Chelsea's ability. He relied on her everlasting grip to keep everyone in check. He had everything in the palm of his hand...and he thought he would be gaining even more power.
How wrong he would find out to be.
"Just fine," Marcus finally rasped out slowly, devoid of any and all feeling. "Chelsea is as strong as ever."
"And Alec?" Aro drawled out. Another twitch occurred across Marcus' lips. Caius growled, as he didn't approve of the bond between Alec and the human. He despised her, of course. If only he knew.
"Absolutely...perfect," Marcus answered even slower this time. "He will have his mate in no time. Jane will soon follow."
"Excellent," Aro replied shortly, satisfied with the answer. The three sat in their thrones, doing nothing but further petrifying their crystalline skin and eyes. "I think the Cullens will be very...impressed with our new additions."
The Cullens would never give in. Aro knew this deep down, but never stopped trying. He coveted Alice, Edward, and Jasper so deeply, for their gifts would only build his empire. Aro only got closer to invincibility with every new vampire he gained.
But no more, Marcus thought, a thought he knew Aro would never get to read off of him. The Cullens' arrival would only increase their chances of freedom. Together, with their gifts combined, the Volturi were no match. Even with their guard.
This human was their only hope.
Oh, how long I've waited for you, Marcus thought freely.
