Seem like a day. Even though I have been there a week. Since I moving to a small house. I was surprised I hadn't seen my aunt since moving here. I don't know she was in town or notified her I moved there for I didn't know where she lived and I guess vice versa her too. But the day I left it came up in conversation with one of her sisters that she lived near where I was taking a new job. Until the day my big brother came to visit with a childhood friend. In red sergers on Monday, April 30, 1989, Shirley said

At the cafe

Good morning. Lee said

Good morning lee. Jennis said

I, uh, stopped by the bank, they said you were here. May I? Lee said

Uh, yes. Of course. Jennis said

Excellent. Lee said

So... what can I do for you? Jennis said

What we do every Monday. It's payday. Lee said

Yes, about that... Jennis said

What about that? Lee said

Our main branch in Santa Clarita fell behind in transferring cash. I, uh... I don't have your payroll. Jennis said

You don't have my payroll? Lee said

But I will- Soon. Jennis said

But it's Monday. I always pay my men on Monday. It's been that way ever since I opened the sawmill. Lee said

And I'm proud to say we've always been there to provide the cash. Jennis said

Into today. Lee said

Yes, well... I'll have your payroll on Thursday. Jennis said

Look, I don't mean to sound annoyed- - No, wait, that's not true, I am really annoyed. This is absolutely unacceptable. Lee said

It sounds like you've forgotten that it was our bank that lent you the money to open that sawmill in the first place, and in those early days, when times got tough, we always worked with you. Jennis said

You did, and I am grateful. Lee said

Good. So, now we just need you to work with us. We just need a few days to get things straightened out. Jennis said

Okay, that's fair. I'll see what I can figure out for my men. Lee said

Meanwhile outside the mercantile as I come up the steps I turned around for hand the same feeling that I did a few weeks earlier with my grandparents and sister up at the Mercantile where they live as yet it seems like the city was being a faded by red sergers but really they were just coming home from war Shirley said

Meanwhile in the meanwhile

Katie... do you have any more construction paper? Elizabeth said

I think you've cleansed me out, but I'll check. Katie said

Thank you. Elizabeth said

Yeah. Katie said

Oh, Elizabeth! Florence said

What is it, Florence? Elizabeth said

You have to come with me, right now. Florence said

Oh. Elizabeth said

Right now. Florence said (As thare went out on the porch of the mercantile. a whole lot of Mountie and Office in their respectable colors coming into Town)

Oh, Why, Jack! Jack! Jack! Elizabeth said

Taylor! Taylor! Taylor! Shirley said

What's going on? Elizabeth and Shirley said

We've secured the Northern Territory. We're headed home, ma'am. Ma'am's A Mountie said

Have you seen Jack Thorsten? Elizabeth said

Have you seen Taylor Addison? Shirley said

I don't know the name. A Mountie said

"Seeing Mountie everywhere entering several of the businesses up on the streets especially the Saloon Elizabeth run to the saloon", jack! I'm looking for a Jack Thorsten? He commanded a squad? What? Elizabeth said

We had a few squads... and we took some losses. A Mountie said

As Elizabeth when out side see more Mountie", Jack! Elizabeth said

I'm home. Jack said

Taylor! Shirley said

Sisters what are you doing here. Yes we're coming home. Taylor said

I got transfer and I know ware auntie Beth Shirley said

Oh really. Taylor said

Come on, you can't refuse auntie and pancakes. Shirley said

Oh, welcome home, Jack. Abigail said

Thanks, Abigail. Jack said

You got the gangs and the gunrunners under control? Bill said

It wasn't easy, but yes. Jack said

Well done. Bill said

(Door opens) There he is! A sight for sore eyes. Rosemary said

Jack, how you doing, pal? Lee said

Hey, Lee. Jack said

Good to see you. Lee said

You too. Jack said

You look like you've lost weight. Rosemary said

Oh, he looks great to me. Elizabeth said

I think you'll need to fatten him up. I can give you some recipes. Rosemary said

Rosemary, I'll be fine. Elizabeth said

I can't believe you're finally home. Abigail said

Honestly, neither can I. Jack said

No rush getting back to work. Just... relax a bit. Bill said

I'll take you up on that. Jack said

I could teach your class today. It could be a lesson about social etiquette. Something they sorely lack. Rosemary said

Well, as much as my students would love that, Florence has already volunteered. She'll be with them until lunch. Elizabeth said

Well then don't waste your morning on us. Go on. Abigail said

Oh, Jack, I I herd was good food. Taylor said

As well as you Taylor is it. Abigail said

Yes, ma'am, thank you Taylor said

Go on, get outta here. Bill said

Go. Go have fun. Abigail said

Hi auntie Beth go ahead Aunt Agatha and auntie Julie told. Shirley said "as she come inside"

Shirley why are you doing here? Elizabeth said

Getting more than I bragging for. besides family and I'm big brother and all the Mountie. Shirley said

Meanwhile at the dress shop

Rosemary? I'm so sorry, but I still need about 10 minutes to finish this dress. Clara said

No problem, Clara. It's a beautiful day. The sun is shining. My heart is full! Work your magic. Rosemary said

Thanks. Clara said

Look at you. The perfect combination of Broadway girl and frontier woman. Sofia Courtney said

Sofia! Oh! It is so good to see you! Rosemary said

You, too. You look wonderful, Rosemary. Sofia said

And you look ravishing, as always. I thought you weren't arriving until tomorrow. Rosemary said

Well, I couldn't wait to get out and spend some time with you. It's nothing like New York, but it's beautiful here. Sofia said

It is. It's a little rough around the edges, but there's no place like it. Rosemary said

What's with the sea of red leaving town? Sofia said

The Northern Territories are under control. So now there's two reasons to celebrate! Rosemary said (both giggling in delight)

Elizabeth house

I've waited so long for this. Elizabeth said

It's good to be home. Jack said

Now we can go back to where we were. Elizabeth said

No. Jack said

No? Elizabeth

I don't want to be engaged. Jack said

What? Elizabeth said

I want to get married, and build the house start a family. Jack said

Okay, catch your breath. Elizabeth said

I don't need to. The thought of coming home to you and having you there every day, it energizes me.(Elizabeth Checkers) it got me through some... some rough times. Jack said

How bad was it, Jack? Elizabeth said

It was what it was. Jack said

And what was that? Elizabeth said

It's over now. Jack said

I want to hear about it. Elizabeth said

Let's talk about something else. In fact, I want to show you something. Jack said

Meanwhile at the sawmill

It was nice of Mr. County to hire you. John said

Well, if giving me a menial job with menial pay is nice, then yeah, he's a prince. Martin said

At least it's paycheck. John said

True enough. Martin said

Uh, gentlemen, can I have your attention for a minute? I have an announcement. (Sighs heavily) I'm sorry to say you will not be getting paid today. Lee said

My life keep getting better... Martin said

Now, it's just temporary. I've been promised the payroll will be here on Thursday. So nothing to worry about, everything's going to be okay. If anyone has an emergency need for cash, I do have some of my own funds that I can advance. So, if that's you, come see me after work. Again, I'm sorry. Lee said

Can you believe that? John said

Well, he said he was promised that the payroll would be here on Thursday. Martin said

What's your point? John said

It has to be the bank. Has this ever happened before? Martin said

Nah... Mr. county always pays on time. John said

It on their land

I can't tell you how many times I've come out here, just dreaming of our future. Elizabeth said

Well, it's time to stop dreaming and start building. Jack said

What's this? Elizabeth said

A rough blueprint. I spent all my spare time thinking about it. The front entrance is gonna face east, so we get the morning sun, but don't worry, we're gonna have a porch facing west, too, so we can enjoy the sunsets. Jack said

There are so many rooms. Elizabeth said

Our family's going to grow, right? Jack said

Apparently, by a lot. This is really happening. Elizabeth said

Well, I've got to talk to lee about the lumber, but, yeah. Jack said

Jack, this is just so much, so fast. Are you sure you don't need to rest? You must be exhausted. Elizabeth said

I'm fine. I want to put a sitting room right here, a big dining room right here. Jack said

How big? Elizabeth said

Well... big enough to hold all the Thorsten clan. Jack said

I wish I could stay out here with you all day, but I have to get back. But seeing as how you have all this energy, though, there is something you could help me with. Elizabeth said

Sure, what do you need? Jack said

A little late at the schoolhouse

All right, some of you did a very good job on your tests... and some of you have room for improvement. But the good news is, it's easy to improve your grammar skills. All it takes is a little bit of practice. Elizabeth said

You only got a "D." Anna said

So what? What did you get? Harper said

It's not that hard, you know. You just have to study. Anna said

I studied some. Harper said

Not enough, obviously. Anna said

What did I say about everyone learning at their own pace? Elizabeth said

Sorry, miss thatcher. Anna said

Don't worry, Harper. There will be another test the day after tomorrow. Why don't you stay after class, and we can talk about how best to prepare? Elizabeth said

Thanks. Harper said

Mountie Jack! Emily said

Yes, class, why don't we say "welcome back"? Elizabeth said

(Class shouts) welcome back!

How long are you back for? Corey said

My deployment is done. Jack said

Your what? Opal said

Oh, that just means that Mountie jack is finished what he set out to do. He's home. Elizabeth said

(Class shoutout) yay!

I'll second that. Elizabeth said

Thanks. So... about this? Jack said

Oh, yeah, you can just put it right here. Elizabeth said

What's that Mountie jack? Corey said

Miss thatcher will explain. Jack said

I'll bet it's a sewing machine. Anna said

Why would we need a sewing machine? Corey said

We're not sewing, are we? Robert said

Why don't you just let me show you what it is? Are you ready? Elizabeth said

Yeah ! The class said

All Right. Ta-dah! Elizabeth said

What is it? Opal said

It's a mimeograph machine. Elizabeth said

What does it do? Robert said

It make paper copies they use them for newspaper. Holly said

And that's exactly where this one came from. The newspaper bought a newer model, so they donated this one to the school. Jack said

What are we gonna do with it? Anna said

That's a very good question. As a part of our lesson in journalism, we are all going to write a school newsletter. It's our version of a school newspaper. So, we'll all work together to write stories, and then we will print them out for the class to read. Elizabeth said

What kind of stories? Robert said

That is a question for your Editor, the person in charge of the newsletter. Now, do I have any volunteers— oh well, all right, holly, it looks like you're got the job. Congratulations. Elizabeth said

Thank you miss thatcher. I love writing stories Holly said

Good. But for this newsletter, we're going to be gathering facts, and reporting them accurately. Thank you can handle that? Elizabeth said

Absolutely. Holly said

Meanwhile at Rosemary house

You are a trailblazer, my friend. Rosemary said

Thank you. Sofia said

How many female architects are there? Five? Maybe ten? Rosemary said

Oh, I'm not sure. Not many. Sofia said

How many buildings have you designed so far? Rosemary said

Oh, let's see... uh, exactly... zero. Sofia said

What? But... you've been a license for over a year. Rosemary said

And in that time, I've applied for nine jobs, had four interviews, three rejections, and one courtship proposal. Sofia said

(Sighs) Well, I guess it's not easy being a trailblazer. Rosemary said

No. It definitely is not. Sofia said

You'll land on your feet. Rosemary said

Well, the question is where. New York not been welcoming to me. Sofia said

You're as free as a bird. My advice spread your wings and fly. Rosemary said

I'll see which way the wind blows. Sofia said

Well right now the wind is blowing you to valley spring , and I am going to make sure you have a fabulous time. Rosemary said

(Chuckling Sofia)

Meanwhile at school

So, we have to come up with some stories for the newsletter. This is our first issue so they have to be really good. Any ideas? holly said

Harper hit a home run last week? Corey said

There are lots of tadpoles in spring like. I could write about that. Philip said

Brownie and I found a pinecone that looked like a chicken. Braak braak! Opal said

(Class laughs)

Those are all good ideas, but, um, we need something really big for the front page. Anyone else? Robert? Holly said

I can hold my breath for 55 seconds. You wanna see? (Gasps) oh, okay, maybe I can't. Robert said

(Class giggles)

That night at the jail house

I never knew how much I'd miss this place. Jack said

Well, you don't hear that very often about jail. Bill said.

Well, this is the Ritz compared to where I've been. Jack said

Yeah, I heard the reports. I know the Mounties lost a lot of good men up there. Bill said

Yeah... so, have you made a pot of that strong coffee you're known for? Jack said

Coming up. It was bad, wasn't it? Bill said

That's all behind me now. Jack said

Is it? Bill said

Yeah. Jack said

Jack... if you ever want to talk about it ... bill said

I just want to get on with my life, Bill. Jack said

The next day on May 1 of 1990 at mercantile

I heard mr. County had trouble paying his workers. Florence said

That can't be true. Katie said

I heard it from three different people, Katie. It must be true. Florence said

Do you think the sawmill is in trouble? It couldn't close, could it? Imagine what that would do to valley spring . Katie said

Remember what happened to the textile company in Fresno? When the owner couldn't pay his workers, it wasn't three weeks before they were out of business. Florence said

Meanwhile down the street (knock on the door) on the back office

Martin. Good to see you. Welcome back. Jennis said

Why can't you make the sawmill's payroll? Martin said

Same old Martin. Always to the point. Jennis said

You didn't answer the question. Martin said

I don't see that it's any of your business. Jennis said

I work for County, but even if I didn't I can always smell when a problem needs fixing. Martin said

(Scoffs) nothing needs fixing. The main branch was just late transferring the cash, that's all. Jennis said

Hmm. You remember when we used to play poker, and I would beat you every time? Martin said

I don't know that it was every time. Jennis said

It was. It is because I could always tell when you were bluffing, and you're bluffing like right now. The only question is, how bad is the bank's hand? Martin said

Martin, if you were a better gambler, you wouldn't have gambled your career and reputation to steal this town's funds. Jennis said

Meanwhile at the school (shouts of children playing)

What do you think, miss thatcher? It would make a really good cover story. Holly said

Where did you get this information, holly? Elizabeth said

I overheard some people talking in the mercantile. They said the sawmill is going to close. Lots of people are going to lose their jobs. Holly said

Who exactly did you overhear? Elizabeth said

Mrs. Blakeley and Miss yost. Holly said

(Sighs) Anyone else? Elizabeth said

No. Holly said

Well, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but do you remember what we learned about facts? Facts should be verified by more than one source. What you heard was just gossip. Elizabeth said

But it would be such a good story. Holly said

Well, it's not a good story unless it's accurate, which means having reliable sources, or better yet, seeing something with your own eyes. All right, everyone inside! Recess is over! ( ringing cowbell) What is going on here? Excuse me. Pardon me. Elizabeth said

make a good headline, miss thatcher? Holly said

It does for me. Elizabeth said (class laughs) (sighs happily)

That night at the cafe

Remember when we were nine years old, I built that little theater for you with wooden crates? Sofia said

(Laughs) I tap danced and sang 🎶oh, my Darling 🎶 🎶 oh, my darling 🎶 🎶 oh, My Darling Clementine... 🎶 Rosemary said

I would've loved to have see that. Lee said

Well, you would've had to line up. We packed the house. Rosemary said

I have no doubt. Lee said

sold out for three weeks in a row. In my backyard. Rosemary said

She was a star, even back then. Sofia said

Well, lee is going to build me my very own theater right here in valley spring . Rosemary said

Oh, really? Sofia said

It'll probably be made out of wooden crates, though. Lee said

Oh, lee... You should design it. We could import marble from Italy, gossamer curtains from Paris. Oh! And those electric theater lights that are all the rage? Rosemary said

Rosemary has always wanted everything to be bigger and better. Sofia said

Hmm. Lee said

Shoot for the stars, you end up over the moon. Just look at my husband. Rosemary said

Yeah, the man who couldn't make payroll yesterday. Lee said

Oh, that's just a little snag with the bank. It'll sort itself out. Rosemary said

(Footsteps approaching) Hey Carlson, whatcha got there? Lee said

It's a ham sandwich. It's for dinner. Carlson said

Are you still talking patients this late? Rosemary said

Uh... no, actually, I'm done for the day. Carlson said

Well, why don't you join us then? Lee said

Yes. Rosemary said

Well, if you insist. Carlson said

Please do. Lee said

Sofia Courtney, my dear old friend, meet Dr. Carlson Sean, my- - well... newer friend. Rosemary said

(Laughter) All four of them

It's nice to meet you, Carlson. Sofia said

The pleasure is mine. Carlson said

Meanwhile at the mayors office

But you don't have any proof that the bank is in danger. Abigail said

I know Jennis, and, Abigail, I'm telling you, he's lying. Martin said

I'll talk to him. Abigail said

It's a private bank. These rich investors they don't report to anyone, so I don't know that you're going to get a straight answer. Martin said

Okay... let's say that you're right, the bank is in trouble. Like you said, it's private, what would you suggest I do? Abigail said

Well, to protect the town's interests, my advice would withdraw all the town's funds right now. Martin said

Martin, if the bank is having problems, and I take out all of our money, it'll only mean more problems. Abigail said

Well, if I'm right, and my gut is telling me that I am... well, the bank is going under. Martin said

Like I said I'll talk to Jennis. Abigail said

All right. The decision is yours to make, but I wouldn't waste too much time. Martin said

Meanwhile back at cafe

Have you been to San Francisco? Sofia said

It is like the Wild West meets the big city. Carlson said

I have always wanted to go. Sofia said

Well, I've been twice- - Rosemary said

Did you ride the cables cars? Sofia said

I was almost hit by a cable car. Carlson said

That reminds me of the time, remember- - Rosemary said

The way the mountains meet the water, and the ferries crossing the bay... Carlson said

Sounds magical. Sofia said

It is. Carlson said

It definitely is. Rosemary said

You know what, sweetheart, I think it's getting a little bit late. Maybe we should be going home. Lee said

I'm sorry, the time just went by so fast. Well, perhaps we should continue our conversation another time. Carlson said

I'd like that. When? Sofia said

Well, if I'm not being too forward, may I invite you to join me for a picnic, tomorrow? Unless you two already have plans. Carlson said

Do we? Sofia said

No, we don't. Picnic away, you two. Rosemary said

It looks like Dr. Sean made a new friend. Dottie said

Oh, so he has. Know who she is? Faith said No idea. But they seem to be getting on rather well. Dottie said

Meanwhile at the on the land of Thorsten

Thanks for accepting my invitation. Jack said (Elizabeth Rines in on her horse)

Of course. (Sighs) Jack, this is... this is just ... beautiful. Elizabeth said

May I have this dance? Jack said

(laughs) There's no music. Elizabeth said

When I was headed to the Northern Territories with my squad, we stopped in a small town, and I found this. I listened to every night before I went to sleep. It drove my square crazy. (Giggles Elizabeth) But the thought of dancing with you to this song kept me going ... Jack said (music box plays)

Then what are you waiting for? Elizabeth said

The next day at sawmill

Well, here you go, the first load for your new house. Lee said

Wow, there is no wane in these at all. Jack said

No, nothing but the best for the town's hero. Lee said

Aw, come on lee, I'm no hero. Seriously. Jack said

Okay, whatever you say, pal. Johnny's going to help you haul and unload it. Lee said

John, good to see you. Jack said

Welcome back, Jack. John said

Thanks. Jack said

Just need you to sign the purchase order. Lee said

Wait a second, Lee, this is not the price we agreed on. Jack said

Oh, sure it is. Lee said

It's half of what we said. Jack said

Jack, you are a great Mountie, but you're a lousy negotiator. Lee said

Sorry, I can't let you do this. Jack said

Yeah, you can, and you will. It's my way of showing a little appreciation. And don't worry, it's at cost, so I'm not losing any money. Go on, sign. Lee said

Thanks. Jack said

There we go. All right, you guys get out of here. Lee said

Meanwhile in town on the platform on the stage coach

Mr. Jennis... Abigail said

Mrs. Stanton. Jennis said

Mr. Jennis, I've been hearing rumors about the bank. I think we should talk. Abigail said

Well, I'm afraid it'll have to wait. I was just about to leave. Jennis said

That's why we should talk now, or I will be forced to withdraw all of the town's funds from your bank. Or is that not even an option? Abigail said

Look... everything will be fine. We're just a little short of cash right now. Jennis said

Because...? Abigail said

Well, frankly, we made some poor investment decisions. Jennis said

Investment decisions? Abigail said

Yes, that's how the bank makes money. Jennis said

I know how the bank makes money. Abigail said

Well, it's not unusual to lose a little money every once in a while. Jennis said

How much money, Mr. Jennis ? Abigail said

More than I'd like. Which is why I am traveling to see a bank in Santa Clarita. I'm going to ask them for a short-term loan, just until we get our sea legs back. Jennis said

What are the chances of that? Abigail said

Good, I hope. Jennis said

(Gasps) You hope? Abigail said

Well, as always, the loan will come with conditions and covenants, but it is nothing I can't handle. Look, I've been a good citizen of this town for many years. I even helped you to get your café started. I think I've earned a little goodwill. Jennis said

Okay. I will leave what's left of the town's funds in your bank or now. When will you be back? Abigail said

Tomorrow, and I promise to bring good news. Jennis said

That's the only kind of news I want to hear. Abigail said

Meanwhile at the schoolhouse

Excellent job on your grammar tests, everyone. Especially you, Harper. You should be very proud. Elizabeth said

You're right. It's not that hard if you study. Harper said

How did you go from a "D" to an "A-plus"? Anna said

Why should I tell you? Harper said

Anna? Harper? Is there a problem, here? Elizabeth said

No, ma'am. Harper said

No. Anna said

Oh, Holly, did you find a story for the newsletter? Elizabeth said

I have some ideas. Actually, yes. I think I found the perfect story. Holly said

Good, and did you check your sources? Elizabeth said

I didn't have to. I saw it with my own eyes Holly said

Huh. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile at the infirmary

So, who was that you were chatting with at the café last night. faith said

Sofia? An old friend of Rosemary's. Carlson said

Oh. Is she staying here in Valley Springlong? Faith said

You know, she didn't say. Carlson said

are you helping she does? Faith said

Yeah, that might be nice. Carlson said

It looks like you're smitten. Faith said

No, it's too soon for that, but... Who knows, right? Carlson said

I hope I'm not too early... Sofia said

No, you're right on time. Hi. Carlson said

Oh, You must be Sofia. Faith said

And you must be Faith. Sofia said

I brag done that with my nurse a lot. Carlson said

He thinks you're the best nurse he's ever worked with. Sofia said

That's nice to hear. Faith said

Just let me get cleaned up, and I'll be ready to go. Carlson said

(Chuckles awkwardly Faith)

It's a beautiful day for a picnic. Sofia said

I heard it's going to rain, but... who knows. Faith said

meanwhile on the Thornton's a big land

You ordered a lot of wood. John said

it's going to be in the house Elizabeth and I live in for the rest of our lives. Jack said

You're a lucky guy. John said And smart enough to know how lucky. Something wrong? Jack said

No. Hey, did you and Elizabeth ever... break up? John said

We had times when we put things on hold. Jack said

Really? That's actually where I'm with Clara right now. John said

Sorry to hear that. Jack said

Yeah. It was her idea. John said

Have you tried talking to her? Jack said

Not really. I mean, she called it a break, but... (sighs) I'm starting to worry it's more permanent than that. John said

Well, with Elizabeth, it took a while for us to find our way back to each other, but we got there in the end. Jack said

I couldn't imagine you two not together. John said

(chuckling) If you and Clara are meant to be, you'll find your way back, too. Jack said

How? John said

She asked for time, so give it to her. Jack said

Meanwhile on the outskirts of town at the county's house

It's so nice to have you home for lunch. Rosemary said

It's nice to be home. The tension at work is getting pretty thick. Lee said

Well, it's not like it's your fault The bank doesn't have funds to pay your men. Rosemary said

Well, it's not like my men to care whose fault It is. they just now they're not getting paid. Lee said

Perhaps I should talk with them. Set them all straight. Rosemary said

Oh, no, no, no. That's not a good idea but thank you for the offer. Lee said

All right. Let me know if you change your mind. Rosemary said

Hmm. Lee said

Sofia and I made these sandwiches for her picnic with Carlson. Rosemary said

(sighs Lee)

You're not going to eat. Are you? Rosemary said

(sighs) it's not that, it's just... I hope Jennis doesn't let us down, that's all. Lee said

I should talk to your men. That's what I'll do. Rosemary said

Meanwhile out near the creek of the town

How long have you wanted to be an architect? Carlson said

Since I was five, I was designing multi-level homes for my friend's dolls. Sofia said

Ah... sounds like a calling. Carlson said

Maybe. Sofia said

What, you're not sure? Carlson said

I think until you're actually doing it, it's more like a dream. Sofia said

Well, here's to dreamers. Carlson said

(Chuckles) May all of our dreams become callings. Sofia said

Mm, this is delicious. Carlson said I admit, I had some help from Rosemary. I'm not the greatest cook. Sofia said

(chuckling) Well, you have to let me cook for you sometime. Carlson said

you cook? Sofia said

When I first came to Valley spring , I worked at Abigail's cafe. Carlson said

I had no idea. Sofia said

I make a mean chili. Carlson said

I will keep that in mind. Sofia said

They say the eyes are the window to the soul. Carlson said

Oh. Well... what do you see? Sofia said

Well... I'm a doctor, so... I see a scratched cornea. Carlson said

Ooh, he's a smooth-talking man. Sofia said

What do you see? Carlson said

Well... I'm a licensed architect, so... I see potential. Sofia said

Potential's good. I'll take that. Carlson said

(Thunderclap overhead )

Uh-oh. (Both laughing) Come... (Rain pouring) (as they get to town) let's go here. Here, wrap this around you. Carlson said

Thanks. Sofia said

You okay? Carlson said

Never been better. Sofia said

That night at county's house

Here you are. Rosemary said

Thank you. Sofia said

Are you sure you don't need a blanket? Rosemary said

Really, I'm fine. I just got caught up in a little rain. Sofia said

Did it ruin the picnic? Rosemary said

Quite the contrary. Sofia said

All right... I see it, clear as day. Rosemary said

See what? Sofia said

(Gently mocking) "see what?" The starry eyes, that little smile. It could only mean one thing. Rosemary said

What? Sofia said

Valley Springhas worked it's magic. Rosemary said

Maybe. Sofia said

Next day and next door at Elizabeth's house

Breakfast... is... served. Elizabeth said

Wow. I could've fed my whole squad with this meal. Jack said

I hate to admit it, but Rosemary was actually right. I do need to fatten you up a bit. Elizabeth said

Are you ready to make the announcement? Jack said Are you? Because once this gets out, things could get a little crazy around here. Elizabeth said

I'm ready, excited actually. Jack said

Okay, then. Today, after school? Elizabeth said

It's a date. Jack said

A little later at school

Opal, Emily, with do you have there? Elizabeth said

It's the school's newsletter. Opal said

Who gave you that? Elizabeth said

Holly. She gave everybody a copy. Emily said

Maybe I see it, please? Thank you. Elizabeth said

(students chant, taunting): cheater, cheater!

That's enough! What is going on here? Elizabeth said

Harper cheated on this test. Robert said

No wonder he got such a good grade! Anna said

I didn't cheat. Harper said

"Harper Andrews snuck into the school and then copied the answers to the grammar test." Corey said

That's not true. I was returning Miss Thatcher's study aids. Harper said

Sure you were. Timmy said

He's telling the truth. I lent Harper my study aids so he could improve his grammar score. He had permission to be in the school. Now, where's Holly? Holly, please come here. Everyone else, go inside. And I want every copy of this newsletter on my desk. Harper, I'll take care of this. Can you please explain to me why you printed these? Elizabeth said

I saw Harper sneak into the school, so I followed him. When I looked inside, I saw him at your desk. It looked suspicious. Holly said

So you wrote this article and published it for everyone to read? Elizabeth said

I saw him writing the answers. Holly said

Holly, you thought you saw him writing the answer, but you were mistaken. Harper was writing me a thank-you note because I lent him my study aids. This is why you were supposed to show me your article before we printed these. Do you have any idea how embarrassing this must be for harper? Elizabeth said

I just wanted a good headline for our first issue. Holly said

(sights) you are the editor of the newsletter because I trusted you to understand the importance of words. When you write something about someone, you have to be certain that it's true. Elizabeth said

But I saw it myself, just like you said. Holly said

But you didn't know what you saw, did you? Elizabeth said

I guess not. Holly said

Harper studied really hard for that test, and now all his friends are calling him a cheater. Elizabeth said

I'm sorry, miss Thatcher. I didn't mean to hurt anyone. I just want to impress you. Holly said

Well, you can still impress me. Elizabeth said

How? "... Therefore, as editor of our school's newsletter, I. Would like to apologize to Harper Andrews, for falsely reporting that he cheated on his grammar test. He studied hard for that test and deserved a perfect grade. In the future, I will be sure that all stories are accurate before they are published." holly said

Thank you, Holly. I hope we've all learned an important lesson today. All right, everyone, that's all for today. Class dismissed. Thank you for that. But, you know, sometimes a personal touch is also needed. Elizabeth said

I'm sorry, Harper. Holly said

You should have just asked me what I was doing. I would have told you. Harper said

I know. I was wondering... since you're so good at grammar now, maybe you'd want to be my assistant editor? Holly said

Assistant edited sounds pretty good. Co-editor sounds even better. Harper said

Co-editor... I like that. Holly said

Meanwhile in town at the county's office

Hello, boys. What's up? Lee said

Lee... I have an announcement. Jack said

Meanwhile at the cafe

Jack and I are getting married. Elizabeth said

Well, that's not exactly big news. Rosemary said

Meanwhile at the county's office

In two weeks. Jack said

Two weeks! Lee said

What? Bill said

Meanwhile at the cafe

I'd like you both to be my Matrons of Honor. Elizabeth said

Oh, Elizabeth. Of course. Abigail said

(laughing happily )

Meanwhile at the county's office

And I would like you both to be my Best Men. Jack said

Wow. Uh.. okay. Lee said

Meanwhile at the cafe

Two weeks? Oh, no, that's not enough time to plan a wedding of this magnitude. Rosemary said

I'm sure we can get it done. Abigail said

Meanwhile at the county's office

Well, I guess we'd better start planning a bachelor party. Bill said

Yeah. Lee said

Uh, no, no, I'm not sure I want a bachelor party. Jack said

You're gonna have one. Lee and Bill said

Thanks. (commotion outside) what's going on out there? Jack said

Meanwhile at the cafe (voices shouting outside)

Do you hear that? Rosemary said

Meanwhile at the county's office

Oh, no. Oh, no... Lee said

Meanwhile at the banks offices (knocking)

Mr. Jennis! (Knocking insistently) Mr. Jennis, open up! (Knocking) John said

John... bill said

Where's Jennis? Abigail said

As far as I can tell, he's hiding inside. Bill said

Abigail? Florence said

Tell us what's happening. Dottie said

Why isn't the bank open? Florence said

It will. Soon. Abigail said

I can't keep the mill open if I can't pay my employees. Lee said

We need cash to restock our shelves. Katie said

I have a new kiln being delivered today. How am I supposed to pay for it? Eduard said

When do we get our money? John said

Everyone relax. Getting excited won't help. Bill said

What will help is having the bank open. Florence said

And soon isn't good enough. Dottie said

Abigail, you're the mayor. What are you going to do about this? Florence said

Yes, Mayor, what are you going to do about this? Dottie said

I know what I'm not going to do, and that's panic. Abigail said

Abigail's right. I've seen banks fail, and it's fear in the community that pushes them over the edge. Bill said

Yeah, but the bank's got our money and it's already closed down. John said

Have they lost it all? Katie said

I understand that you're worried- - Abigail said

I just want my money. Worker said

I need to bey supplies. A man said

What are we supposed to do? Florence said

I will deal with this, but I promise you the back will re-open. Abigail said

When? A woman said

(Exhales) soon I-I - - just give me some time. Abigail said

How much time? John said

I don't know. Day's. Maybe a couple of weeks? Abigail said

You can trust Abigail! Elizabeth said

We're all in this together, people. Jack said

Jack's right. We need to give Abigail a little bit of time to work this out. Lee said

Thank you, Lee. Abigail said

Until then, everyone go about your normal business. Bill said

Oh, goodness. How are we supposed to do that? Dottie said

Can I talk to you in my office? (Hushed) (exhale deeply) Abigail said

What's your plan? Bill said

I don't know. Jennis tried to get a loan to keep the bank afloat. Obviously, that didn't happen. Abigail said

Well, they must not see him as a credit risk. Bill said

Bill, what am I going to do? Abigail said

You're gonna stay patient, you're gonna work this thing out. Until then, you did the best thing a leader can do- - you kept people from panicking. Bill said

Well, at best, I bought a little time. Abigail said

Yeah, which is exactly what we need right now. Time for cooler heads to prevail. Bill said

Meanwhile at the jail

Jack. I was talking to Rosemary. I turned around, and you were gone. Elizabeth said

Oh, sorry. Once Rosemary starts talking, I never know when it's gonna end. Jack said

That's true. What are you doing? Elizabeth said

Well, I got to head out for a bit, to do something I should've done a long time ago. Jack said

Which is? Elizabeth said

I want it to be a surprise... but it'll make you happy. Jack said

All right. When will you be back? Elizabeth said

Soon. Day after tomorrow. Jack said

Are you okay? Elizabeth said

Yeah. Absolutely. Why? Jack said

I asked you about the Northern Territories, and you didn't want to talk about it, and now this... Elizabeth said

There's not much to say about the Northern Territories. And this is a surprise. Trust me. Jack said

Safe travels. Elizabeth said

See you soon. Jack said

Later that day at the cafe

Just think- - in a little over a week, you're going to be "Mrs. Jack Thorsten". Rosemary said

It's so exciting. Abigail said

I know! I can hardly believe it. I just wish I knew why Jack had to leave town on this mystery mission of his. Elizabeth said

Maybe he's buying you a wedding present. A gold broach. (Gasps) or diamond earrings. Rosemary said

Jack knows he doesn't have to prove his love to me with expensive gifts. Elizabeth said

Jewelry never hurt. Rosemary said

You're really worried about him. Abigail said

Ever since jack came home, I can't help but feel like he's holding something back from me. He just isn't himself. Elizabeth said

Well, maybe you should mention that to him when he gets home. Abigail said

In the meantime... there are a lot of preparations, and very little time to do them. So, Elizabeth, I'll need you to meet me at Dottie's after school. I will have the design of the dress ready to show you. And Dottie, once she picks up your fabric, Clara will set aside everything else and start sewing. Now Abigail. You're coordinating the wedding dinner. Right? Rosemary said

That's right. We have to sit down to discuss the menu, but I was thinking prime rib with all the trimmings. Abigail said

Oh! That sounds delicious. Elizabeth said

Yes! Rosemary said

But all this is going to cost a lot of money, and everyone's so low on funds right now. Maybe we shouldn't get so carried away. Elizabeth said

No! Sht- sht-sht! Nonsense! You only get married once. Rosemary said

She's right. Abigail said

(All chuckling)

A little late At school

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who was the first European to cross Pacific Ocean. Any questions? Anna? Elizabeth

Are we invited to the wedding? Anna said (all the kids laughter)

I meant questions about explorers, but since you asked... Yes! Of course! You're all invited to our wedding. Elizabeth said

(All the kids overlapping): Yay!

Now, back to Magellan- - Elizabeth said

Can I be an usher, miss thatcher? Corey said

Can I be the flower girl? Opal said

(All the kids overlapping)

Oh! All right, all right! Listen, listen! I promise you're all involved to the wedding, and each and every one of you will have a very special job. You all means so much to Mountie jack and me, and we're very glad you'll be there to help us celebrate. Okay. Time for recess. Class dismissed! Elizabeth said (cowbell clanging)

Miss thatcher. Philip said

Yes, Philip? Elizabeth said

Thanks for invitation us to your wedding. Philip said

Oh, you're welcome. I hope your dad can come, too. Elizabeth said

If he gets home in time. Philip said

He's been working out of town for a while, hasn't he? Elizabeth said

At his new job... but I hope he'll be home soon. So, what's my job gonna be at the wedding? Philip said

Oh... you know what? I have the perfect job for you. How would you like to be our ring bearer? Elizabeth said

What does the ring bearer do? Philip said

Well, he carried the rings down the aisle. There's nothing more important than that, right? And the person who carried them has to be extra trustworthy. Elizabeth said

That sounds very important. Philip said

It is. Will you do it for us? Elizabeth said

Yes! Thanks, miss thatcher. Philip said

Meanwhile at the county's house

Sofia, could you hold up the blue chiffon for me? Rosemary said

Mm-hmm. Dark blue or light blue? Sofia said

Oh. Let's go with the light blue. Oh! No! Rosemary said

No, no, no, no, no. That won't do. Rosemary said

Well, why not? Sofia said

When the sunlight hits the fabric at just a certain angle, it almost looks white. All we all know that nothing should complete with the bride's dress. It's the centerpiece of the entire celebration. People will be talking about this dress for days, weeks... maybe even years to come. Mm! So... hold up the dark blue, please. Ah! Perfect. Dark blue it is. Rosemary said

These are going to be beautiful. Sofia said

Mm. If I can only finish these bridesmaids dresses on time, and of course Elizabeth's dress. Rosemary said

Good morning, Sofia. Lee said

Ah. Good morning, Lee. Sofia said

Good morning, my lovely wife. Any breakfast for me? Lee said

Oh. Lee... I have so much on my plate, I haven't had time to fill yours. Oh, there's some bread on the counter. Rosemary said

Bread? Great. Lee said

Meanwhile at the sawmill

Martin. Can I talk to you for a minute? Abigail said

Sure. But if John Jeffrey comes by, I got to get back to work, though. Martin said

Martin... I need your help with the back. I have to find investors, or the town is in deep trouble. Abigail said

Look at me, Abigail. I gotta wash sawdust out of my teeth every night. I don't know that I can help you with that. Martin said

You know people, Martin. Important people. Rich people. They would listen to you even if you were covered in mud. Abigail said

Once, maybe. Not now. Martin said

That's not the Martin Gowen I know. The man I know lives to make a deal, and if you could pull this off, it would be the greatest deal you ever made. Abigail said

Well, I can give it a shot, but you got to understand it's a long shot. Martin said

I'm not a gambler, Martin... but aren't long shots where the big pay-offs are earned? Abigail said

(Chuckles) you know, you may not realize it, Abigail, but the moment you become Mayor you became a gambler. Martin said

Meanwhile at the school yard

I'll bet Miss thatcher will make me usher. I'd be a good usher. Robert said

I wanna be the one who lights the candles. Harper said

Do you think we're gonna have to call Miss thatcher " Mrs. Thorsten" when she gets back to school? Robert said

If she comes back to school. Harper said

What do you mean, if? Robert said

Don't you know what happens when teachers get married? They have their own family. Miss thatcher won't have time to teach us. She'll be busy with her own kids. Harper said

Do you think that's true? Philip said

It happened at my old school. The teacher got married we didn't see her again. Harper said

It won't be the same without miss thatcher. Robert said

Meanwhile in town

Well, thanks for joining me. Carlson said

Are you kidding? On horseback in the countryside? What's better than that? Sofia said

You can make even taking a run for medical supplies sound romantic. Carlson said

Because it can be. I can see the appeal of this place. Sofia said

Could you see yourself pursuing your career here? Carlson said

Every town needs homes, shops. Sofia said

But nothing that fully utilizes your talent. Carlson said

Architecture is all about seeing possibilities. Maybe I see something here. Sofia said

I love the way you look at things. And I bet you that translates into your designs. Carlson said

Until someone hires me to design a building, you may never know. Sofia said

Ah, something'll come through for you. Carlson said

That's kind of you to say, but... nothing has, and it's been over a year. Sofia said

Well, life has a way of changing in an instant. Carlson said

Meanwhile at the dress shop

Oh...(gasps) Rosemary, you have really outdone yourself. Dottie said

I've never had so much fun designing a dress before. Rosemary said

Elizabeth might want something a little simpler. Clara said

Oh! She may think that's what she wants, but this is her day to shine. Rosemary said

(All sighing dreamily)

Sorry I'm late. (Gasping) oh, rosemary, it's beautiful. Elizabeth said

I just know you would love it! Rosemary said

I do! It's just so... much. Elizabeth said

I know! Rosemary said

I'm going to Albert hills to pick up the fabric tomorrow. Dottie said

Oh, Dottie, I'm not sure I have that kind of money on hand. Elizabeth said

Now, don't you worry. I will get it on credit and you can pay me later. I'll pay the supplier once Abigail gets this bank issue sorted out. Dottie said

Or we could go with a less expensive fabric, and perhaps not as much of it. Elizabeth said

Elizabeth...(sets design down) this is your day. I refuse to let you compromise. Clara? Come. Look at how lovely you look. I'm gonna make sure your wedding is everything you ever dreamed of. And more. Rosemary said

Meanwhile in Hamilton

You want my blessings? That usually comes before asking a man's daughter for her hand in marriage. William said

When I proposed, I was heading into the Northern Territories and there wasn't time to do it the traditional way. I want to do this right, sir. Jack said

Elizabeth wrote to her mother and me about what was going on up there. How did you- - William said

How is Mrs. thatcher? Jack said

Well, she's in London, caring for Viola and her new baby. It's... probably not a good time for Elizabeth to get married. William said

Well, it may never be a good time, but it is the right time. Jack said

Will you two marry even if I withhold my blessing? William said

Yes, sir, we will. Jack said

Then...why are we even having this conversation? William said

Because your approval, it means a lot. Jack said

Apparently, not enough. William said

I wouldn't be here if it didn't matter, sir. Jack said

I want you to know, constable, that I have never disapproved of you. On the contrary, I have high respect for your character, your honesty, and your devotion to duty. My question has always been, are you the right match for Elizabeth? Given your far different backgrounds. William said

With all due respect, sir, marriage isn't about the past, it's about the future. Elizabeth and I, we love each other. We're going to have a family. These will be your grandchildren. Soon, you'll be bouncing them on your knee. It's in everyone's best interest to get this marriage off to a good start. Mr. Thatcher, I know you want what's best for Elizabeth. So do I. I promise you... I will devote my life to making her happy. Jack said

Meanwhile in valley spring

Oh, I loved those biscuits from yesterday. So how are things going with the back? Elizabeth said

I'm working on getting private investors. So how are things going with your dress? Abigail said

Good. Elizabeth said

Just good? Abigail said

The dress will be beautiful. I just feel like I don't really have much of a say in it. Elizabeth said

Well, if you want to get rosemary to listen, you have to get her attention. Abigail said

That's easier said than done. Elizabeth said

Well, let's talk about something that only you and jack can plan- - your honeymoon. Abigail said

We're planning on leaving a few days after the wedding. Elizabeth said

Where are you going? Abigail said

Chicago. Elizabeth said

Oh, I hear Chicago is beautiful. Abigail said

I think jack's really gonna like it. They've got great theater, museums, a new baseball stadium. Elizabeth said

I am so happy for you two. Oh, you're gonna have the best time. Abigail said

We're really excited. Elizabeth said

Oh, speak of the devil. Abigail said

Ladies. Jack said

Welcome back! Abigail said

Thanks. Uh... Care to join me for a ride? Jack said

Can't wait to hear about your trip. Elizabeth said

That's definitely on the agenda. Jack said

We'll finish this conversation later. Elizabeth said

Have fun. Abigail said

Meanwhile at the Mayor office

It's not just us, Abigail. All the merchants in town are suffering. Dottie said

I'm in the same boat as you. That's why I have a proposal for every merchant in town. I think we should start extending credit to our customers. Abigail said

(Sighs) Well, I would love to, Abigail, but since I don't know when the back is going to open again, or even if it's going to open, how can I sure I will be paid? Dottie said

Because every cent of credit extended will be backed by the town of valley spring . Abigail said

But if the bank is closed how would that work? A man said

The town owns a good amount of land. If need be, I'll sell it to pay off the debt we accumulate. Abigail said

Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but your word is good enough for me. Dottie said

The mercantile will start extending credit today . Katie said

Thank you. Thank you very much. Abigail said

Meanwhile at on Thornton's land

So are you gonna tell me about this surprise? Elizabeth said

I went to get your father's blessing. Jack said

What did he say? Elizabeth said

He gave it to me. Jack said

Oh, ho! Jack! That's wonderful. Elizabeth said

But even if he said no, that would never have stopped me. Jack said

Me either. Elizabeth said

This gets us off on the right foot. Jack said

Almost. Elizabeth said

What do you mean, almost? Jack said

The Northern Territories. Elizabeth said

What about it? Jack said

Exactly. Since you've been back, it seems like you haven't talked to me at all about it. In fact, it seems like you've been avoiding the subject. Elizabeth said

That's because it's behind me. Jack said

No, it's a part of you and it always will be. Elizabeth said

You don't want to hear about it, Elizabeth. Jack said

But I want to. Jack, we're a couple, and successful couple share everything with each other. I need to know you're on board with that. Elizabeth said

Glad I found you two. Hickman said

Is something wrong? Elizabeth said

There will be, if rosemary doesn't get her way. She needs you both to come to the café right now. Hickman said

Meanwhile at the sawmill

I'll let you know soon, Martin. Lee said

Well, I appreciate it. I'm just looking for a fair shot. Martin said

Mm-hmm. Hey John. Can I talk to you for a minute? Lee said

Yes, sir. John said

I need a new man on one of the logging crews, and, uh... gowen asked for the job. Lee said

Sure. It pays a lot more than what he's doing right now. John said

Yeah. You supervise him. What do you think? Lee said

Honestly? John said

Yes. Honestly would be best. Lee said

Working on a logging crew's really hard work. Takes a certain kind of man to do it. And even though mr. Gowen's doing his job okay, I think maybe he spent a little too much of his life behind a desk. John said

Maybe. Lee said

You know, there's plenty of guys who've been working here a lot longer that could use the extra pay. John said

Right. Thanks for your thoughts. I got to get back to town. See you later. Lee said

Meanwhile at the cafe

Florence and Dottie, how are we doing with the floral arrangements? Rosemary said

We need volunteers to donate some flowers from their gardens and bring them to the church the morning of the wedding. Florence said

And we thought the children could gather wildflowers. Dottie said

Good idea. Corey can organize his friends to help. Abigail said

Here we are. And now, best men. Do you know where the rings are? Rosemary said

Do you? Bill said

I don't know know where the rings are. Lee said ( the door opens)

The rings? I have the rings. Jack said

There you are! Come, come, come! Rosemary said

Guard these carefully. Jack said

With my life, buddy. Bill said

We were just discussing flowers. What would you like for your bouquet? Rosemary said

Uh, oh! Well I've always loved roses. Elizabeth said

They're not at their best right now. How about... dahlias? Rosemary said

Do we have to decide this right now? Elizabeth said

Well, we are just completely jam-packed from now until the wedding. We still have to plan the bachelor's lunch. Lee? Rosemary said

Oh, and there's the girls bridal tea. Abigail said

Oh, that sounds lovely, but you all doing so much, and, really, Jack and I would just like to keep things simple. Elizabeth said

(Laughs mirthfully) You say that now! It is our job to make sure your wedding is as special and as wonderful as you are. Rosemary said

Some time later at the mercantile

Hey, Katie. Carlson said

Hi, dr. Sean. Cash or credit? Katie said

I actually still happen to have a little cash. Carlson said

You're one of the few. Oh, a telegram came for you from San Francisco. Katie said

Okay. Great. Carlson said

I think Rosemary's more excited about the wedding than you and Jack are. Abigail said

I know she means well, I just wish I could ask her to take a step back a bit. A baby step or ten. Elizabeth said

Hey, ladies. Carlson said

Hey Carlson. Abigail said

Hi, Carlson. Elizabeth said

I'm really looking forward to Jack's bachelor luncheon. Carlson said

Great! Elizabeth said

Here it is. Katie said

Thank you. Carlson said

I just wish I had a moment to breathe it feels like Rosemary is scheduling every minute of every day with something wedding-related, whether it's a dress fitting, or picking out the centerpiece for the tables, or the napkins for the dinner or- - (Hushed) Elizabeth said

Oh! That reminds me- - we have to finalize the menu. Abigail said

Of course. Talk to Rosemary. See If she can schedule it. Elizabeth said

Elizabeth, we love you and Jack so much. We want what's best for you. Abigail said

I know. Elizabeth said

In a week, you will be blissfully married and you will forget everything you had to go through to get to that precious moment. Abigail said

I'm going to go look for some bubble bath. Maybe that'll relax me. Elizabeth said

Meanwhile outside the mercantile

I know what you did. Martin said

What are you talking about? John said

Blocking my promotion. Martin said

That's was mr. County's decision. John said

With your input. Martin said

Face is, Mr. Gowen, you weren't the best choice. The man who is got the job. It was nothing personal. John said

Oh, I don't believe that. Martin said

Believe whatever you want. John said

Does it make you feel good? Seeing me brought down? You Feel like a big man? Martin said

That's enough! Martin Gowen... (scoffs) How dare you make such accusations? You haven't been treated unfairly at all. Clara said

Mrs. Stanton, this doesn't concern you. Martin said

Oh, if it concerns John, it concerns me. I know how hard he works at that sawmill, and I know how much respect he has for all of his co-workers. If you really believe that you've been treated unfairly, take it up with Lee country, but leave John out of it. He is a far better man than you will ever be. Clara said

Meanwhile near the pond

There's something so peaceful here... and of course, it's special, because it's where we had our first date. Sofia said

This place will always bring great memories. Carlson said

That almost sounds like a goodbye. What's that? Sofia said

It's a job offer. Carlson said

For? Sofia said

For you. In San Francisco. Carlson said

I don't understand. Sofia said

I have an old friend who works with the mayor at the city planning office. Carlson said

They want to hire me. Sofia said

The city's still rebuilding after a earthquake nearly 6 months ago,and its expanding more people, more jobs, more roads ... Just after in the last big earthquake back in 1906. Carlson said

This is a dream job. Highrises, theaters, Victorian rowhouses, Queen Anne homes... the list is endless. Carlson... thank you. You're an amazing man. I'm gonna miss you. Sofia said

You kidding me? You've given me the perfect excuse to come visit San Francisco. Carlson said

You'll be welcome any time. Sofia said

That night at Elizabeth's house (knocking at door)

Jack. Elizabeth

I need to talk to you, Elizabeth. Jack said

What's going on? Elizabeth said

What you said about not sharing everything you were right. I'm sorry. Jack said

Thank you, Jack. Elizabeth said

I have to warn you, though, what happened up there, it wasn't always pretty. Jack said

Life isn't always pretty, but being married is about sharing the good and the bad. Elizabeth said

We had taken losses before, but nothing like this, Elizabeth. One day, we were out on patrol and my squad was ambushed. When the shooting stopped, I thought we were all okay... but this new recruit was hit. He didn't make it. The night before, he came up to me and he told me that he was scared, and I assured him that he'd be okay. (chuckles sadly) I even put him at the back because I thought he'd be safer there. He wasn't. Jack said

Jack... That was not your fault. Elizabeth said

It's just, um... it's hard to stop thinking about it. Jack said

I know. It must be very hard. Thank you for telling me. Elizabeth said

Thanks for being you. Jack said

The next day in town out the saloon

Is it just me, or is this wedding becoming more than it should be? Jack said

(laughs) I know they mean well. Hello, Philip! Elizabeth said

Hi. Philip said

I was just telling Mountie jack that you agreed to be our ring bearer. He's very happy you too the job. Elizabeth said

And I can't imagine anyone I'd trust more with those rings. Jack said

Is something wrong, Philip? Elizabeth said

No. I should be going home now. Philip said

Oh. All right. Elizabeth said

What do you think that was about? Jack said

I don't know. Elizabeth said

Well... I'm here. Jack said

Are you ready? Elizabeth

Yeah. Yeah, as ready as I'll ever be. Jack said

Have fun. Elizabeth said

You too. Elizabeth said

In side the saloon

Enjoy, Jack! Bill said

Thanks Bill. Jack said

There you go. So how's the house planning coming? Lee said

Oh, it's coming along. Jack said

Listen. I am, uh, I'm selling you the lumber, but I am giving you my time. Weekends, nights, whatever it takes, I'm gonna help you build that house. Lee said

I appreciate it, Lee. Jack said

Okay. That is hot. Whoo! Carlson said

It's good for you. Clears out your sinuses. Bill said

Bill, I have missed your chili. You know, if you're stuck for a wedding gift, I want you to teach Elizabeth how to make it. Jack said

You asking me to give up my secret family recipe? Bill said

Uh... jack said

Well, consider it done. Elizabeth is family. Bill said

So what does that make you? The Black sheep? Lee said

(Men chuckling)

Martin. The saloon's closed. It's a private party. Bill said

Bill. Didn't you invite him? Jack said

Should I have? Bill said

Martin... join us. Please. Jack said

I don't think I'm wanted here, Jack. Martin said

I want you here. Jack said

Thank you. Martin said

You're welcome. Jack said

Congratulations. Martin said

Thank you. Jack said

You're looking at the current darts champion of valley spring , unless you think you can beat me. John said

Prepare to lose your crown, young man. Martin said

I didn't know how you felt about him. Bill said

Martin's part of the community. Jack said

Hey there, folks. Mind if I borrow the groom for a minute? Lee said

Uh, listen, I hate to spring this on you, but Rosemary's kinda been on me about this. Um... Lee said

What are they? Jack said

Color schemes for the wedding. Lee said

Color schemes for the we- - I didn't even know Wedding had color schemes. Jack said

Well, it'll affect which suit you wear. Lee said

I'm not wearing a suit. I'm a Mountie. I'm gonna get married in my uniform. Jack said

Ah. Does Elizabeth know that that's what you want to wear? Lee said

We haven't even talked about it. Jack said

(Whistles) Hmm. Well, you might want to tell her. Soon. Color Schemes. Important. Lee said

Okay, everybody, listen up! It's that time of the party where we all have to make a toast to the groom. Bill said

Aw,Bill- - No, come on. Jack said

Those are the rules. To Jack Thorsten... a man who found the perfect woman... and took forever to do something about it. (Laughter) "Love is patient"- - luckily for you. Congrats, Jack. Cheers! Bill said

Thanks, everyone. Cheers! Jack said

Meanwhile at the café (Woman laughing)

Now, Elizabeth, as you know, a bridal luncheon wouldn't be complete without the time-honored tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." Or, as I like to call them little tokens of love. Rosemary said

I call them good luck charms. Florence said

Semantics have no place at a bridal luncheon, ladies, but gifts do, and this one's from me. It's something old, and it represents continuity in your life. Rosemary said

Thank you, Rosemary. Oh... it's gorgeous. Elizabeth said

It's beautiful. Abigail said

It was my grandmother's I just know it'll look perfect with your dress. Rosemary said

Thank you so much. I'm touched. Elizabeth said

And from me... something new, which offers hope for the future. Clara said

Thank you, Clara. Oh! They're lovely! Elizabeth said

I made them myself. And even the box I put them in is new. Clara said

Oh! Well, thank you. I will cherish them always. Elizabeth said

And from me... something borrowed. Abigail said

Abigail... they are stunning. Elizabeth said

Cultured pearls... which I wore at my wedding, which symbolizes the happiness I know you and Jack will share for the rest of your lives. Abigail said

Thank you so much. It means the world me. Elizabeth said

But they're borrowed, so you have to give them back. (Laughter) And now for something blue... uh... we will surprise you with that later... but tomorrow, we need to pick out champagne flutes. Rosemary said

Rosemary, I was hoping that, tomorrow, Jack and I might spend a bit of time together. Elizabeth said

Oh, Elizabeth- - (laughing) There is no time for time before the wedding! There is so much to do, I can't even keep my head straight! (Woman laughing) Rosemary said

Sometime later coming out of the café

Now, Elizabeth, don't forget- - tomorrow, we're doing your dress measurements, so eat a light dinner. Rosemary said

Well do. Elizabeth said

Elizabeth! Which do you prefer? Marigolds... or daisies? Florence said

Daisies represent cheerfulness and innocence. Dottie said

Well, marigolds represent passion and creativity. Florence said

I like them both. Elizabeth said

She likes them both. Dottie said

Both? Well, certainly marigolds and daisies do not go together. Let's talk about colors. I suggest yellow. Florence said

Meanwhile coming out to have the saloon

Well, I guess I better start working on my speech for the reception dinner. Bill said

I already wrote mine. Lee said

Really? Bill said

Uh-huh. Lee said

What are you gonna say? Bill said

Well, I'm not gonna tell you in front of jack. Lee said

(Heated floral discussion continues, indistinct)

That's okay. I think I'm needed anyway. Jack said

Shall we? Lee said

Well, marigolds are clearly a more cheerful flower, and that truly represents Elizabeth's personality. Florence said

Excuse me, ladies. I'm just gonna borrow Elizabeth for a moment. Jack said

Oh! Dottie said

Thank you. Jack said

(Whispers) Thank you for rescuing me. Elizabeth said

What were they arguing about? Jack said

Flowers, believe it or not. Elizabeth said

Flowers? Jack said

How was your bachelor luncheon? Elizabeth said

It was good and yours? Jack said

It was lovely. Elizabeth said

Good. Jack said

But, Jack... this isn't how I imagined our wedding. Friends are bickering. People are spending money they don't have. There must be an easier way. Elizabeth said

There is... Jack said

Eloping? Elizabeth said

Why not? We'll throw a big party for everyone when we come back. I just... I just want to be married to you. Jack said

Let's do it. Elizabeth said

Really? Jack said

Mmm, yes. Elizabeth said

Okay, meet me at the livery in an hour. Jack said

Meanwhile outside in the barbershop on the sidewalk

John. Clara said

Clara. John said

(Laughs both)

How was Jack's party? Clara said

It was great. And Elizabeth's? John said

Fun. She looks so happy. And a little stressed. Clara said

Hey... I wanted to thank you for sticking up for me earlier yesterday's. No one has ever come to my defense that way. John said

Well, maybe no one's ever felt about you way I do. Clara said

You mean that? John said

I do. Clara said

Then, if you don't mind me asking, what are we still doing on a break? John said

(Laughs) I've been thinking the same thing. Clara said

Are you saying...? John said

I'm ready to get back together. Clara said

Me too. John said (as kiss her)

Meanwhile at the stage coach platform

Oh, Sofia! Spreading your wings! It's so exciting. Rosemary said

Well, the minute you get some time off, you must come and visit me in San Francisco. Sofia said

Absolutely. Just don't expect me for months after the wedding. I'll need some time to recover. Rosemary said

Come on. Carlson said

You know what I still see when I look in your eyes? Sofia said

(Laughs) potential. Carlson said

Big-time potential. Sofia said

It's a wonderful thing you did for her. Rosemary said

What's wonderful is what she did for me. Carlson said

And what's that? Rosemary said

She made me realize that I can open up my heart again. Carlson said

A half-hour later at the mercantile livery

Hi. Anyone see you? Jack said

Rosemary. She seemed a bit suspicious. Elizabeth said

Yeah, Bill too. We better hurry before word spreads. Jack said (Both laughing)

Elizabeth! Abigail said

Abigail. Elizabeth said

Have either of you seen Philip? Abigail said

Not recently, no. Why? Elizabeth said

Mrs. Drayman's can't find him. He was supposed to be at her house three hours ago. She's looked everywhere. Abigail said

We saw him earlier. He seemed down. Jack said

Were would he run off to? Abigail said

I have an idea of where he might have gone. We'll need a couple of horses. You stay here and look around town. I thank I know where to find him. Elizabeth said

Okay. Abigail said

Down by the river (hooves clopping)

Philip? Hi! What are you doing here? Elizabeth said

I wanted to be alone. Philip said

Everyone was worried about you, Philip. Jack said

How'd you know I was here? Philip said

Well, I remembered this is where you like to look for tadpoles. Why do you want be alone? Elizabeth said

I just do. Philip said

Philip... you can tell me what's going on. It's okay. Elizabeth said

Believe me, Philip... talking helps. Jack said

What's upsetting you? Elizabeth said

I'm mad at Mountie jack. Philip said

Why would you be mad at Mountie jack? Elizabeth said

Because he's talking you away from us! Philip said

What do you mean? Elizabeth said

I heard the other kids talking, and they said, once teachers get married, they have their own family, and they don't come back to school anymore. Philip said

What the other kids said... it's not true. Elizabeth said

So you're staying in valley spring ? Philip said

This is my home! Elizabeth said

But Harper said it happened to his last teacher. Philip said

Oh, I'm sure it does happen with some teachers, but the people of Valley Springare too special to me. I couldn't leave. This is where I belong same as you. No matter what happens, I'm staying right where I am, and that's a promise. Elizabeth said

A little late back in town at the livery

Thank you. Philip said

Jack... I've been thinking. Elizabeth said

I know. We can't elope. Jack said

It isn't just Philip. Elizabeth said

You mean a lot to this town. Jack said

We Do! Elizabeth said

And this town needs this wedding. Jack said

But... it doesn't mean we can't at least do a few things our way. Elizabeth said

Watch out, valley spring , the future Mrs. Thorsten is taking charge. Jack said

Hour later at the cafe at sunset

We called you all here today because we love each and everyone of you. Jack said

And we're so glad that you're all part of our wonderful wedding. Elizabeth said

However... it is our wedding. Jack said

Our special day- - which means Jack and I should really be in charge of it. Elizabeth said

Don't get us wrong, we're grateful for everyone's help. Jack said

But when all's said and done, we need to make our own decisions, and we hope you'll understand. Elizabeth said

Of course we understand. Abigail said

I'm glad you spoke up. Bill said

We just want you guys to have everything that you want. Lee said

And I suppose some of us have been a little overenthusiastic. Rosemary said

A "little"? Lee said

(All in the cafe Chuckling)

Take the reins. Abigail said

Thank you. Elizabeth said

Thank you all. Jack said

All right, everyone, you heard them. There is a lot of work to do. Rosemary said

And not much time to get it done! Florence said

Whoa, whoa, whoa. To do what? Lee said

Our color scheme is completely wrong. If Jack wants to get married in the red uniform- - Rosemary said

...We'll have to design a palette with warm tones. Dottie said

If it's gonna be a Mountie wedding, we should probably have a Mountie honor guard. I'll wire jack's commanding officer. Bill said

Well... that lasted about five seconds. Lee said

What are you smiling at? Abigail said

We're a part of a community that cares. Elizabeth said

Even if they care a little too much. Jack said
