Wednesday morning, Jethro got up and hoped that things would be much less eventful than the prior evening had been. After engaging in certain activities with Shannon, he redressed and answered the door only to find Evan Erickson standing there.

Given the look on the twenty-nine-year-old's face, Evan had easily surmised just what exactly had delayed their answering the door. The poor kid had just come over to ask if he and Wayne could borrow a couple of tools from him. At least Evan hadn't actually seen anything. It had been more than awkward enough. The look on the young man's face was quite amusing though if Jethro was honest.

Jethro went into work in order to get a few things done - wanting his case reports and such all dealt with before taking some lost time - while his wife went to a Professional Development day at her school. He and Shannon planned to go away for the weekend and he wanted to get some maintenance work around the house done before they left for their weekend at the cabin.

He worked until about 1345 and then turned off his computer and made his way up to the director's office. It had been an extremely slow day, the team just following up on a cold case lead that ended up going nowhere and catching up on reports. Despite all their best efforts, they had no new leads concerning the Brotherhood of Doubt nor the cell's leader Benham Parsa. Given the situation, Jethro didn't feel bad about turning in the last of his outstanding reports to the director and grabbing his things.

McGee tilted his head slightly. "You heading out, Boss?"

"You're going out to your cabin, Yes?" Ziva asked.

He nodded in confirmation. "Yeah. We're drivin' down on Friday afternoon, but I've got a lengthy honey-do list to get through before then."

Dinozzo chuckled. "Yeah, that sounds about right. Then again, when you're husband's a skilled handyman why not cash in?"

He rolled his eyes in amusement. "She's said the same thing." His lips turned upwards into a warmer smile. "In any case, the biggest decision I gotta make's what I'm gonna do first." He loved his job but he was also looking forward to a couple of days without having to make those tough decisions that came with being a team leader.

Ziva grinned. "I bet you Shannon has a thought or two about that as well."

He eyed the young Israeli cheekily. "Bring it on."

McGee shook his head in amusement as Jethro made his way over to and pressed the button to the main elevator, a small smile on his lips. The younger man then gestured vaguely in Jethro's general direction before turning towards the two other field agents and saying something to the pair.

The drive home to Arlington didn't take long and he couldn't help but grin as he finally pulled into their driveway. Getting out of the truck, he headed inside and let Bailey out to do her business. Jethro then took a mug out of the cupboard and poured himself a large cup of joe. Finishing his drink, he made his way out to the backyard to mow the lawn and tidy up a few things that were scattered around the yard.

He'd just finished washing his hands after putting the lawnmower away when he heard the tell-tale sound of his wife's car pulling into the driveway.

Walking into the kitchen while Jethro was in the middle of pouring himself another cup of black coffee, Shannon turned to him and smiled warmly. "You're home early, Babe. Slow day at the office?"

"Paperwork and more paperwork," he replied wryly. Jethro gave his wife a peck on the cheek and then eyed her. "How was your day?" Once the words had left his mouth, he pressed his coffee cup to his lips and took a sip.

"Good," the redhead replied. "My class may actually be done everything that needs to be done before Spring Break gets here."

His lips curled upwards. "Impressive." He leaned in and gave her a peck on the cheek. "So, about that list of yours -"

She titled her head slightly. "You manage to check anything off already?"

"Yardwork," he replied before taking another sip of his coffee.

She pulled him in for a quick kiss. "Perfect. Well, let's take a break." She leaned down and pet the dog who was now happily laying down at the redhead's feet. "Maybe take this one for a walk in Lubber Run Park?"

He chuckled as the pup started wagging her tail eagerly. "I think that's a yes."

She shook her head in amusement and grabbed Bailey's leash off of the counter. "Let's get going then before B has a conniption."

He gave a little snort. "Or something."

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Go get changed then, Tiger."

The walk on the trail at Lubber Run was nice and both of them enjoyed being outside and taking advantage of the nice weather as much as Bailey did. Their little excursion did get cut short though when they got a call from Maddie who had gone out for lunch with Kelly earlier that day. That was something that the two childhood friends normally did at least once a week. Apparently, their second grandchild had decided to make an entrance a little bit earlier than expected.

Shoving his cellphone back into his pocket once he got off the phone, he and Shannon dropped Bailey off at home and did some grocery shopping for Kelly along with a few last-minute things for the baby.

The pair then drove down to Georgetown University Hospital where their daughter had been admitted earlier on that day. They really wanted to be there for Kelly as much as possible considering that Michael was still away on deployment.

Checking in with their daughter, they were glad to hear there were no complications so far. Maddie also took it upon herself to look after Paisley, enjoying the role of surrogate aunt that she'd stepped into back when Paisley was born.

Maddie walked into the waiting room with Paisley who was happily munching on some treat Aunt Maddie had bought her from the hospital cafeteria.

"You spoil her," he lightly teased.

Maddie raised an eyebrow in amusement. "And you two don't?"

Shannon gave a little snort. "And we don't plan on stopping."

Maddie chuckled. "Yeah, that's what I thought." She started playfully tussling Paisley's hair. "And I don't think Miss Giggles is about to complain."

Paisley held up her treat with a huge grin. "More."

He shook his head, laughing. "Maybe later if you behave for your aunt."

Not much later, Paisley and Maddie headed home. After grabbing his cell phone from the pocket of his blue jeans, Jethro noted that he had a missed call from his old man, one from his in-laws, as well as had several unread texts.

He opened up the conversation with Ziva. 'Any news yet?'

He quickly typed back a reply. 'Doc says everything's looking good.'

They were definitely in for a bit of a wait still, though. Jethro couldn't help but think of Michael as he sat there beside his wife. Jethro had missed his own child's birth due to being on deployment and he knew that it was something that his son-in-law was going to end up wrestling quite a bit with. Shoving that thought to the side, Jethro turned to his wife. "D'ya wanna grab some chow?"

"Yeah," she agreed. "I could use a snack."

Two hours later, things really started to pick up. Doctors had encouraged Kelly to use a peanut ball and a couple of other positioning aid during side-lying positions as well as squatting during contractions again given that they had helped so much the first time around when she had Paisley.

Michael's parents had also joined them at the D.C hospital. The pair had eagerly made their way down from Philadelphia once they'd gotten a call from Shannon and booked a hotel, intending to stay nearby for a few days so that they could lend Kelly a hand if needed. It also gave all of the soon-to-be grandparents a chance to talk as they didn't see each other a whole lot.

Eventually, it was go-time and Jethro was once again sitting in the small waiting room, Shannon staying back to support Kelly at their daughter's request. Jethro wasn't at all offended by the young lady's request for a modicum of privacy, so was perfectly happy with grabbing himself a cup of what passed for coffee at the hospital and waiting.

After thirty-five more minutes of waiting, Shannon came out and gestured for them to follow her. Not needing to be asked twice, they all made their way back to the hospital room to meet their granddaughter.

Kelly, who was clearly feeling exhausted but appeared to be doing rather well, smiled and handed the newborn baby to her mother-in-law who was beaming as she looked down at the bundle swaddled in a little blue blanket. "Oh, isn't he handsome?"

Bryan smiled affectionately at Kelly. "Congratulations, Kel. He's perfect."

Gently, Trudy placed the newborn baby in Jethro's arms. He smiled down happily at his grandson. A grandson! I have a grandson! He could already tell that the baby boy was going to favour Mike in the looks department. "I'll second that. Congratulations."

Kelly smiled appreciatively. "Thank you."

Judy tilted her head slightly. "Have you and Mike been able to pick a name?"

Kelly nodded happily. "Yes, we have, although we definitely did our share of bickering when it came to baby names."

"And?" Shannon asked excitedly.

He shot his daughter a look. "You're killing us here, Kellz."

His daughter chuckled and then gestured to the tiny bundle of joy currently in Jethro's arms. "Everyone, say hello to Mason Isaac Walsh."

He looked down at Mason, utterly taken in by the now sleeping baby boy that he was holding close. "I love it, Kel. That name, it suits him."

The trip to the cabin would have to wait, but neither he or Shannon cared. They'd just gotten something so much better.
