After the surgery when Callie went with every one to meet and update the family, that's when everything clicked for her. It was Arizona. When she locked eyes with the man and older woman she had a feeling she was right those eyes, those piercing blue eyes they were one of a kind and hearing them introduce themselves as the Robbins' just confirmed it all for her.
Callie done her morning rounds as normal every day. She tried to act like Arizona was just an everyday normal patient for her. She wasn't sure how much Arizona's family knew and she wasn't going to be the one to tell them anything. Normally around lunch or supper or sometimes both they would leave and Arizona was alone and that's when Callie took her opportunity to really be with Arizona. Every time Callie would pull a chair on side of the bed and grab Arizona's hand stroking it. She prayed that Arizona would be okay. Yes medically she was suppose to be okay but it was taking a long while for her to wake up. Arizona didn't seem to have much activity going except for the one time she kind of woke up but was very out of it and Callie soothed her back to sleep.
Callie was in the lounge when she heard the news from Derek that their patient was awake. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Derek had already been in to see and speak with the family and Callie would have to take her turn soon. She was glad Arizona was awake and relieved but now she was worried about Arizona's reaction of seeing her. Callie decided to take a minute to herself, to try to build up the courage, to seem confident before entering the room. Taking a deep breath Callie slid the door open to the room and grabbed the clipboard at the end of Arizona's bed.
"So Lieutenant Robbins if you're feeling alright i'd like to start now?" Callie asked never looking up from the clipboard
"Umm uhh yea" Arizona stuttered out
"Okay so I was the orthopedic surgeon on your case and I repaired your leg. I set it in a cast and I would like to keep in there for at least three weeks and then we'll do more scans and go from there. Any questions?" Callie said looking at the other Robbins but trying not to make eye contact with Arizona "Alright well if you have any questions later or need anything just have a nurse page me" and with that Callie quickly exited out the room
"That was odd. She's normally so lovely and nice. I hope everything's okay she must be having a bad day. You would really like her Arizona" Arizona's mom said and Arizona just hummed a response in return.
When they were finally alone Arizona turned to Tim "Tim I need to talk to Calliope"
Tim let out a huff "Arizona I told you I don't know a Calliope"
"The doctor Tim! The orthopedic surgeon that's Calliope!"
"Ohhhh wait really she's hot? how you know her?"
"Uhhh well that's kind of a long story" Arizona said rubbing the back of her neck, something she often did when she was nervous. "But really get her back her I need to talk to her alone"
"Ughhhh fineeeee let me see what i can do" Shortly after Tim came running back in the room out of breath "okay I had her paged"
"Okay good now when she gets here make sure you leave and make sure you distract mom too so she doesn't come back"
"Oh gee thanks Tim for being the best big brother ever and setting up my booty call for me" Tim says in a mocking voice which causes Arizona to throw a pillow at him
"She is not a booty call!"
Not long after they hear a knock on the door "you had me paged?" Callie asks poking her head in the room
"Oh look i'm out of coffee" Tim says ducking out of the room
Callie clears her throat "so i'm guessing by how your brother just ran out this room this doesn't have anything to do with your injuries?"
"Ummm...oh yea my leg's really hurting can you take a look at it?" Arizona asks trying to get Callie to stay in the room
Callie walked over and looked down at Arizona's leg "so what's wrong? What's hurting?"
Arizona stuttered for a moment not really saying anything. "Okay so I don't think anything's wrong with it so what's this really about Arizona?"
"What happened Callie? Why'd you just stop answering me? I mean it's been over a year since I last heard from you or even seen you"
Taking a deep breath "my life got complicated Arizona and things happened that I need to tell you in person"
Arizona leans over grabbing Callie's hand "okay well i'm here for you Callie why didn't you just write me and tell me you needed space?"
"Because I don't even know where to begin!"
"Okay well did you..did you um meet somebody else?" Arizona asks nervously
"umm kind of" Callie answers looking away nervously
"oh well okay I hope they make you happy because you deserve to be happy Calliope" Arizona says disappointedly
"They do" Callie says with a megawatt smile "okay look there's no easy way to say this and I wanted to tell you in person, the person is actually um ...it's um it's your son"
