The sunlight assaulted her eyes as she slowly awakened. She groaned and then tensed as another body moved against hers. She relaxed momentarily when she realized it was Eddie. His face was pillowed on her quilt-covered stomach and his arm was slung across her hips. She knew her groan had woken him when his head turned into her stomach and he let out a groan of his own. She felt him tense moments later and instinctively ran her fingers through the hair at the base of his neck. Her action caused him to look up at her and he relaxed briefly but the eye contact caused Rachel's anxiety to shoot up. This was bad, really bad. Eddie's voice punctured her spiraling thoughts.
"How much did we drink last night?"
She went to answer, though she had no memory of the end of the night, when her phone started to vibrate on her nightstand. By the time Eddie had released her and her limbs had co-operated enough for her to retrieve the phone, the call had disconnected. She keyed in her unlock code and swore.
"I've got 8 missed calls from Philip. Find your phone in case it's Lottie." She addressed Eddie before turning back and pressing her phone to her ear. "Phil, what…"
Eddie paused in the act of retrieving his phone as Rachel's tone changed.
"Phil, Phil, I need you to calm down love. What's wrong with her? Did you call an ambulance?"
