Author note Hi, I'm back. I'm only updating this story when no one has updated theirs in a while, so no regular updates. As it may fill the gap. Enjoy either way. Might do the same for the Percy Jackson and Kane chronicles crossover section.

Another three days flew by. Carter was able to walk the distance to the bathroom and back, and Sadie was now able to eat as much as Carter had a few days ago. Now that Carter was awake half the day rather than the quarter of the day, I could help with Sadie more. I watched her when Walt was busy with homework, so I was now busy keeping her from falling out of bed.

Carter and Sadie's rooms were adjoined, so I could easily check on Carter. She had been trying to get up so she could go outside, but she still needed rest.

"Come on Uncle," Sadie said as I lifted her back into bed after yet another attempt to leave the room. "I wanna go outside!"

"Sadie, you're still way too tired to do so." I said.

"Still, I need fresh air."

"Tell you what, I'll carry you outside if you try to relax and rest for once. Fair enough?"

"Fine." Sadie said as she reached up for me.

I scooped Sadie up. She was gaining weight, as she had lost some after the time on the ventilator. As I carried her to her balcony, I found myself grabbing a blanket, and some snacks. I had made this a habit during the six years I wasn't able to see the kids. Just going out on my balcony and resting outside. It helped my nerves.

I set her down next to me, and handed her a chocolate bar. I wrapped the blanket around the two of us. I pulled some cotton candy out of the Duat. I carried some in there, as it was my favourite snack to eat. It was tasty. Sadie gave me a weird look.

"What?" I asked her.

"Why do you have a cotton candy stash in the Duat?" Sadie asked me.

"Don't ask me that, you and your brother were the ones to get me into it."

"When and how?"

"When you were two and four. I took you two to the circus to spend some time with you, and you two got hungry, and Carter suggested we get cotton candy, and I wasn't sure about it, because I never had any before, but you asked me what kind of a sad life I was living, so I bought some. I've loved it ever since."

"I seriously asked you that?"

"Yes. It was very funny, to be honest." I said as I put some cotton candy in my mouth.

Sadie took some from me. I took some chocolate from her. This was what I had wanted when I came. To spend time with the kids.

Walt came and joined us a half hour later. He scooped Sadie into his lap. I smiled. It got chilly, so we headed back inside. I checked on Carter. Carter was sleeping. His deep breathing was so gentle I just wanted to keep him in bed for forever. But life wasn't nice like that. I closed the door and turned my attention back to Sadie. She was eating chocolate, and cuddling a cat in her lap. Walt began to wrap her in the blanket from outside.

I coughed a bit. Walt smiled, reassuring me he was just making sure Sadie couldn't escape. I wasn't sure in a blanket could stand up to the tornado wrapped in a hurricane that was Sadie Kane, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

I left the room, and went to go do something. Shelby came and saw me. Shelby was a sweet six year old with brown hair and brown eyes. She was the literal definition of girly girl. Her unicorn shirt was definitely the one thing that pulled that idea altogether.

"Mr Kane? Can we go play?" Shelby asked me.

I smiled. She was such a sweet girl. I played with her and the ankle biters when I wasn't watching Carter and Sadie. It seemed to help the older kids. But it made my wish for kids worsen drastically.

"Sure thing. What do you wanna play?" I said.

Shelby thought it over. I secretly hoped she wouldn't try to paint my nails again. Because that was gonna be hard to explain to the older magicians at The First Nome.

"How about we draw?"

"Okay, but no making them come to life, you hear?"

"I hear!"

A few minutes later, she and I were drawing in her room. I smiled as I drew with her.

I looked over her shoulder. She was drawing a snake with sticks in it. I remembered that Carter mentioned they often came to life in her hands, and crayons occasionally turned into weapons in her hands. I had a feeling that she'd make an excellent combat magician. I just knew it.

I just drew Carmen. Not that I was paying attention to what I was doing. Shelby looks over my shoulder.

"Who's that?" She asked me.

"A girl I used to be in love with. Her name was Carmen. I dunno where she is now."

"Did you wanna marry her?"

"I did, but Iskander forced us apart because she was a crossed blood: don't tell anyone that."

"What's a crossed blood?"

"A mix between a god from a different pantheon, and a magician. They have the abilities of both, but prefer to associate themselves with the pantheon the god comes from. And they have the same lifespan as a magician."

"They sound cool."

"Because they are."

Shelby smiled.

"Maybe we can find her someday!"

"To be honest, I don't even know if she's alive. There was a crisis on her pantheons side. She helped fight it from the shadows. She may be dead for all I know. Even if she survived the crisis, a monster may have killed her by now."

Shelby hugged me.

"Maybe we can track her down sometime."

"Maybe sometime."

I left the room after saying that. I needed a minute.
