Sick
"Pain makes people change."
Day 3. 10:42 AM.
"Wait, what?" Leo exclaimed. "I thought that you only needed us for medical tests!"
"Yeah, well, turns out no. I only follow orders. Sorry. Now walk." Sophie responded.
"Oh, no! We're not going anywhere with you! One thing is when it's for sure that what you'll do will not cause us any harm and other thing is using us as your lab rats!" Raph yelled.
"I'm sorry Raphael, I thought that you had accepted your fate in this lab." Sophie answered. Her face showed no expression. She was definitely mad for what had happened that morning.
"Sophie, I thought that you cared. Why are you treating us like this?" Mikey asked.
Sophie hesitated before answering.
"Look, all I need is to give these guards the order and you guys will be knocked down on the floor, so, please, let's go."
"And what makes you think that we won't fight back, you bitch?" Raph shouted, running to attack Sophie, even tho he had the handcuffs on.
At that moment, before Raph could touch her, one of the guards electrocuted him, making him fall to the floor.
"Raph!" Mikey and Leo yelled, as they tried to defend his brother with no success. In no time, the three of them were immobilized on the floor.
"Okay turtles, listen up. You have to start to think before you do something and also, you have to understand who's in charge here. You are just three freaks who have no rights, and that's not going to change, so you better get used to it. If I were you, I would accept the fact that you will rot in this lab, probably die in an experiment, but hey, you will die for science. I tried to be nice with you to make this hell better for you, but instead of thanking me, you betrayed me this morning. And besides, you should forget about your brother in purple because something tells me that he's not coming back. Maybe that blood trail was his. Now, get up and walk, monsters."
"What did you call us?" Raph weakly said from the floor.
"What? Freaks or monsters?"
"You whore!" He yelled, trying to once more, get up to fight her, but he got electrocuted again.
"Look, you can call us anything you like, but at least we're more human than all of you are! You would have to be idiots, which is clear you're not, to not notice that we're as much human as every one of you and that we have feelings and think, just like you! Our appearance isn't everything and yet, it's the only thing in which you're interested!" Leo cried in desperation.
"You're probably right. Anyway, get them up. We have people waiting for us."
The turtles tried to fight once more, but again, it was useless. They started walking through the hallways, the guards pushing the turtles. They got into an elevator and the guards pushed the button for the 10th floor.
The turtles were scared. The feeling of not knowing what was coming, was definitely one of the worst things they had felt. The terror increased as the elevator's floor numbers kept going up. Finally, the doors opened, and the guards pushed them once more.
The turtles looked their surroundings. That floor seemed to be completely made for scientists. It had lots of rooms with walls made of glass that let them see the scientists working there.
"This is different…" Leo spoke up.
"As I told you, we're in the labs now." Sophie responded annoyed.
"Alright, you don't have to be such a dick about it…" Raph talked.
Sophie, as she usually did after Raph talked, rolled her eyes without a response.
After somewhat a long way, they got inside of a room. They were lots of scientists inside it, all of them dressed in white. The turtles could also see three beds on the room.
"Why is there so much people in here?" Mikey asked concerned.
"Don't worry, they'll be out as soon as you're settled." Sophie answered.
"Settled?" Leo asked worried.
Sophie started saying hello to each of the scientists on the room while the guards watched that the turtles didn't tried anything.
"We have to get out of here Leo." Raph whispered.
"I know, but it will be impossible." He responded.
Suddenly, Sophie arrived with another guard with her.
"I brought you company. Now, you have a guard for each. You've earned it." She said mad. "Okay turtles, they gave me the order to tell you to lie down on one bed each so, are you going to do it by the easy or the hard way?"
"Please Sophie, you have to get us out of here. These guys will end up killing us." Leo begged.
"Do I look like I give a fuck? Guards, they chose the hard way."
"No, no, no! Wait! We'll go! Just don't hurt us anymore!" Leo yelled.
"Really Leo? You're just going to be their bitch?" Raph asked angrily.
"Do we have a choice Raph? We don't stand a chance against these guys. I don't want you two to get electrocuted again."
Raph thought about it. These scientists still needed them. They wouldn't let them die so fast, plus he also didn't wanted Mikey to get electrocuted again. He took a deep breath and turned to Mikey, who was frozen in fear.
"It's going to be alright, okay? We won't let anything bad happen to you, little brother." He said as he faked a smile.
Mikey just nodded back.
"Alright, enough with the talk! Now, obey." Sophie ordered.
The turtles started walking to the beds. Raph ended up on the bed in the middle while Mikey ended up on his right side and Leo on his left side. As soon as they lied down, metal stripes came out of the beds, holding down their limbs and their body trunk and immediately, the turtles started fighting to get off the restrainers while the scientists started getting near of the beds.
"What the fuck is this?" Raph yelled.
"Calm down turtle. The restrainers will be gone as soon as you're settled down. They will just make our job easier."
"And why would I want to make your job easier?" Raph shouted annoyed.
"So that you don't hurt yourself during the procedure."
"Procedure?" Raph questioned.
"Please! Don't get near me! Get that thing away from me!"
Raph turned his face as soon as he heard Mikey screaming desperately. He saw that the scientists who were around his bed were cleaning his left forearm with a cotton. He realized what was happening. They were going to stick another needle in them for the seventh time on the day. He suddenly felt the cold cotton in his forearm himself, but he didn't pull his sight away from his little brother, who couldn't stop screaming.
"Hey, Mikey!" He yelled, but Mikey was still panicking and wouldn't listen to him. "Michelangelo!" He shouted once more, this time succeeded, making his brother look at him with his terrified face.
"Stay with me, okay? We'll distract each other."
"Raph, I can't! Not again!" He cried.
"Yes you can! You already did it today, remember? Just take deep breaths and look at me."
Mikey, still shaking, did what his big brother told him to, until he felt the needle get inside.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch! Stop it! Please! Get it out!"
"I'm sorry turtle, but it will have to stay inside." A scientist responded.
"What? Why?" Mikey yelled desperately.
"We're almost done, just hold still."
Mikey looked to his left arm. He saw that it wasn't a shot, it was just a needle sticking in his arm. The scientists were holding it with some sort of tape.
"What the hell is this for?" Mikey shouted.
"Just relax. You'll feel some discomfort, but I promise you that I'll be quick." Another male scientist said, approaching with a syringe with a yellowish liquid and no needle in it.
"No! Wait! Just please let me go!"
"Mikey! I told you to look at me!" Raph ordered.
"But…"
"Look at me, Mikey."
Before Mikey could even responded, he felt a horrible sensation in his arm as the liquid went inside. He scram in pain, as the liquid kept going inside.
"Mikey! Calm down! I'm feeling it too, okay? I know it hurts but it will be over soon, just look at me!" Raph said clenching his teeth.
"Raph! I can't!" He cried, shutting his eyes.
"Mikey, open your eyes, you just did it, little bro. They're done."
"It still hurts." Mikey talked with a muffled voice.
"Yeah… my arm too." He responded, looking at Leo who was also lying with his eyes closed and his face expressing pain, even though the scientists were not doing anything to him anymore.
"How are you doing, fearless?" Raph asked.
"Same as you are." He managed to pronounce.
Finally, the scientists placed a thimble on their left hand middle finger, so that they could see their heart rate.
Even though the turtles were still trying to handle the pain, a scientist started talking to them.
"Turtles, I need your attention here." An old man started to say.
"What the fuck do you want?" Raph yelled at him in pain.
"The substances that we administered to you were nothing else than different sicknesses to each of you. The objective of this experiment is to know if your kind react as a human would act. Leonardo, we administered you the Norovirus, Raphael, you have the Staphylococcus Aureus and Michelangelo, you will be reacting to the Respiratory Syncytial sickness."
"What? You people are mad! These sicknesses will kill us!" Leo shouted angrily.
"Don't worry, we have that covered. It is important that you don't take out the needle that we left on your forearms because if you do, then it will be slower for us to administer the cure for these sicknesses and you will have to go through the whole intravenous insertion again. We will also be checking your pulses so that nothing goes wrong. Good luck turtles."
"What? Wait! Come back!" Leo yelled, but in no time, all the scientists were gone, closing the door behind them and leaving them alone. The pain was finally easing for every one of them. Seconds later, the restrainers were gone, letting them get up. They saw that the wall in front of them was a mirror.
"Shit, a Gessel Chamber again…" Raph cursed.
It was all silent. The only thing that they could hear was the sound of a clock on a wall.
"We need to get the doctors back in the room! We need those cures!" Leo spoke up. "How are you doing Mikey?"
"Well, it hurts less than two minutes ago…"
"That's the attitude. We need to make a plan before the sicknesses start showing up." Leo ordered.
"So, any ideas?" Raph asked.
"No." Leo sighted.
"Last time we couldn't get out of here after everything we tried, so we have to make them come inside." Leo suggested.
"How? They will just enter the room if they notice that our sicknesses are very bad." Raph talked.
"Then we fake them." Mikey spoke up.
"Okay Mikey, first, these people are probably watching you say that you'll fake them and second, how are you supposed to fake something that you don't know what it is?" Raph responded.
"Good point." He murmured.
"Anyway, how long do you think that these sicknesses will begin to make effect on us?" Leo asked worried.
"I don't know. Maybe hours, or until tomorrow. The sure thing is that the sound of that clock is making me crazy and my head's starting to ache." Raph answered.
"I miss Donnie. He'd know what to do." Mikey said.
"Yeah, I hope that he's spending this time better than us." Leo agreed.
"Anyway, aren't you guys feeling a little off?" Mikey asked, sitting on his bed once more.
"Yeah, am I the only one who's cold?" Raph questioned, taking a blanket off the bed and covering himself up.
"Raph, the ambience isn't cold…" Leo responded, walking to his brother and then, touching his forehead. "Jesus, Raph! You're burning up!" Leo exclaimed concerned.
"Are you sure? Because I'm freezing." Raph told him.
"Take that blanket off Raph, you need to cool up." Leo ordered, taking the blanket off his brother.
"No Leo, I need some heat!" Raph yelled.
"Believe me, heat is the last thing you need now."
"Give me the blanket Leo!"
Before Leo could respond, he heard that Mikey started to cough. It was a very dry coughing.
"Mikey, are you alright?" Leo asked as he ran to see his little brother, who was on the bed, lying on his side.
"Yeah, I just got some cough, but that's all." He answered with a little smile.
"Okay, let me know if you feel… Argh!" Suddenly, Leo was interrupted by an intense pain in his stomach, making him bend his body.
"Leo! Are you okay?" Raph asked immediately, while scratching his arm.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just… Ugh… stomach ache." He responded, still bending.
"We need to get those cures before we get worse!" Raph exclaimed, scratching his neck. "Hey dildos! We need the cures now! I don't know if you're somehow watching, but your answer is yes! The sicknesses react to us like to any fucking human, so please get in here!" Raph shouted angrily to the mirror, while he scratched his leg.
"Please listen to him! We don't want this to get any worse!" Leo yelled too.
The turtles reminded silent for a moment, waiting for any response form the other side, but they got nothing. The only sounds on the room was the clock still ticking, Mikey, who was coughing occasionally, Leo's silent complains and the sound of Raph scratching his body.
"Fuck! They won't come inside!" Raph scram in desperation.
"What if we meditate? It could help us with these symptoms, right?" Leo asked.
"Well, I don't see anything better to do, Mikey?" Raph asked.
"Alright." He talked with a hoarse voice as he sat down on his bed.
Each of the turtles went to their beds and sat down in a meditating position. They closed their eyes and started taking deep breaths, something that for Mikey wasn't easy because that would just cause him more coughing.
Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.
Raph was having a very intense itchy feeling on all his body. Even though he tried to ignore it, the itch was very strong, and he couldn't resist to scratch it, even tho his skin was now hurting every time he did, plus he was freezing and shaking.
Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.
Mikey couldn't even breathe well. He felt his throat starting to close every time he took a breath. He had somehow managed to control his coughing, but it was very hard considering the part that he felt that soon he was going to get a cough attack if his throat kept closing that way.
Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.
It was very difficult for Leo to concentrate with the pain that he was feeling on his stomach. Every time he inhaled, the pain was wider. Even though he was doing his best to ignore it, the pain was increasing.
Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.
Suddenly, Mikey started coughing. He was trying to get some air, but it was very hard to breath and he couldn't stop his cough. Leo and Raph opened their eyes immediately.
"Mikey, are you okay?" Raph yelled, as he saw Mikey lying on his bed, still coughing.
"I think he's having trouble breathing!" Leo scram as he did his best to stand up from his bed and run to help Mikey.
Raph did the same thing. Before the turtles could help Mikey, he finally stopped coughing.
"I'm… fine." He managed to say, trying to catch his breath. "I felt like if my throat was closing up." He talked exhausted.
"Can you breathe now?" Leo asked.
"Not that well, but better that some seconds ago." He spoke. "Oh, god! Raph, what happened to your arms and legs?" Mikey freaked out.
Leo looked at Raph too. His skin was turning red. It was a rash.
"Raph! What's wrong with your skin?" Leo yelled too.
Raph was as impressed as his brothers were. He immediately ran to see himself in the mirror wall.
"Oh, crap! I look terrible!" He screamed as he scratched his arms.
"Raph! Quit the scratching! It will just make it worse!" Leo ordered.
"I can't! It's too itchy but it burns at the same time!" Raph answered in desperation as he scratched his leg.
"Raph calm down!" Leo spoke up as he walked to his side, but suddenly, he felt dizzy. The floor moved as he tried to walk, making him fall to the floor and his stomach ache.
"Argh!" Leo complained, as he sat down in pain on the floor.
"Leo, what happened?" Mikey asked with his hoarse voice as he got up and helped his brother.
"Leo! Are you okay?" Raph ran to his side.
Both, Mikey and Raph kneeled beside their brother.
"I feel… like I'm… like…" Before Leo could end the sentence, he made his brothers aside and he vomited.
"Fuck! That's gross!" Raph yelled, standing up.
"Ow, man! What the hell did you puked Leo? You haven't eaten since yesterday!" Mikey stood up too.
"Ugh… I feel terrible." Leo spoke up.
"Yeah, you look that way too." Raph said as he helped Leo to stand up.
"Raph, you're very hot!" Leo yelled.
"That's what she said."
"I mean it Raph! You must have a very bad fever!"
"Yeah, well you can tell that to the motherfuckers who locked us here!" Raph screamed angrily.
"Ugh…" Leo complained.
"What is it fearless?"
"I'm freaking nauseous…" He responded.
"Leo, I swear that if you puke on me, I'll smash your pale fucking ass."
After Raph helped Leo to get to his bed, he sat down on his.
"W-What about you, Mikey? Y-You're not talking much." Raph asked while he scratched desperately his knee.
"It's hard to breathe." Were his only words.
"Why are you stammering, Raph?" Leo asked weakly.
"I'm f-fucking cold." He responded as he grabbed the blanket on his bed once more and covered himself up.
"Raph, I told you to…" Before Leo could end the sentence, Raph screamed in pain.
"Raph! What is it?" Mikey spoke up.
"Everything hurts! My skin burns, and my head is going to explode!" He kept shouting as he grabbed his head desperately.
"Raph, you have to calm down…" Leo started.
"I can't! I'm freezing!" He yelled.
Suddenly, it all went quiet. Raph wasn't hearing his brothers anymore. Then, he felt someone staring him on one side of the bed. Raph immediately looked to see who it was, when he encountered him. It was Donnie. He was looking at Raph with a concerned look.
"Donnie!" Raph smiled, making him forget about all the cold and the pain he was feeling.
"Hey Raph, you look terrible." He answered.
"I know. Can't you give me a pill or something?" Raph asked.
"I wish I could…" Donnie responded.
"Anyway, what happened to you? We were looking for you all morning long and we couldn't find you. Where did you go?"
"I'm alright, but your fever is killing you. Leo is vomiting again, and Mikey can't breathe."
"What?" Raph asked concerned as he turned his head to see his brothers.
He saw Leo, who was vomiting blood on the mattress and then he looked at Mikey, who was coughing and couldn't stop. His face was now turning blue and he was moving in desperation, trying to breathe. In a second, Raph felt back all the pain and the cold that he was feeling before.
"No!" He yelled frustrated. "Donnie, help them!" He shouted, when he looked around and he realized that Donnie wasn't in the room anymore. Raph tried standing up, but he felt to weak.
Finally, he heard the door of the room opening and he saw many doctors entering the room. Three male doctors approached with a syringe that had no needle, to Raph, who was lying on the bed.
"Help my brothers…" He said weakly.
The doctors seemed to not have listened to what he said, instead, one of them held him down, the other one grabbed his arm and the last one inserted the syringe into the needle he had in his arm. Raph felt the strong pain of the medicine coming in. He yelled, as he also could hear his brothers screaming in pain. When the doctors were done, they finally pulled out the needle from his arm.
After that, Raph fell to an intense sleep.
