Be Strong

"You never know your strength until being strong is your only choice."

Day 4. 01:10 AM.

The first thing that he noticed was the smell. It was a very strong smell. He could feel it get inside and outside his lungs. Next, he tasted a light taste of something like iron on his mouth. He swallowed some saliva, but the taste was still there. Then, he started hearing a far chattering that kept intensifying more and more. That was when he felt it. A strong pain all over his body. He could feel his heart beating in his head, that felt as if it was going to explode. His body felt weak and he could feel a strong pain on his upper left leg. Then, he remembered that night. How long ago had that happened? How much time had he passed out?

Donnie then, opened his eyes. He realized that he was tied up on a chair and that he was in a room. He hadn't noticed that before. Then, he saw a needle sticking on his left forearm and the feeling of liquid entering his arm by a thin tube connected to the needle. Everything was spinning. He needed to adapt his sight. He was probably drugged. It was hard to keep his eyes open. Donnie started looking at his surroundings. The room was somehow dark, but he could see all kinds of things that appeared to be medical equipment surrounding him. Apparently, he was in a type of cellar where those people kept all the stuff that they didn't need anymore.

He then saw three people talking outside of the room, just at the door. They didn't seem to be aware that he had woken up, even though the room was not so big, and they weren't that far from him.

Donnie tried to concentrate. It was a hard thing to do, considering his state of consciousness. The voices of the people outside the room sounded as if they were very far away and as if they made echo. He closed his eyes once more and focused on the sound.

"I'm asking you, don't make Darron do this! This is, without a doubt, morally incorrect!" That was a woman's voice. She sounded desperate.

"Delia, how many times should we tell you! Dr. Lambert gave the order to do it and we can't change that!" Now, the voice changed. It was a man talking now.

"Even if I could change Dr. Lambert's order, I wouldn't! The freak broke into Everett's office and now he knows too much. We can't risk ourselves for him to tell the others! They are dangerous and violent creatures and you know it. Besides, if Dr. Lambert's plan works and we can make more of these monsters to sell them, it would make this company rich and, as far as I'm concerned, you are part of this company, Delia. Think bigger and just focus on doing your work and please keep your freaking psychologists out of this one. Now excuse me, I'll go tell Darron that he's all settled." This was another man's voice who, as he was finished talking, turned around and walked away.

"Everett, you need to help me and stop them from committing this atrocity they're planning. The purpose of buying these beings was meant to be pure research, but what Dr. Lambert wants to do it's just inhumane."

"Delia, I hate to break it to you, but this time I'm with Lowell. After all, he's in charge of the scientists and, all of the experiments that he will be doing to them, it's all his call and we can't get on his way."

"Well, I'm in charge of the psychologists and my job is to keep everyone's mind sane, including those turtles. And you are in charge of the doctors who all swore to do anything in your hands to save a life, or have you forgotten that? These poor turtles will die Everett, and you know it. Maybe they're not human, but they act as human beings and they're just kids. You can't to this to them." Now, the woman voice sounded as she was crying.

"Sorry Delia, but I need the money, and I think so do you." That was the last thing the man said.

Donatello heard him walk away as he opened his eyes slowly, when he saw with a blurry sight, that the woman approaching to him, covered in tears. Donnie decided to close his eyes once more and pretend to be asleep.

"This is silly because you aren't even awake, but I really need to tell you that I'm sorry turtle. When I started working for this company, I really didn't think they would be so cruel." She cried for some seconds, then she sighted and began talking once more. "I won't leave you and the others alone. I will do everything in my hands to free you from this, just hang on, okay? Be strong."

With that said, she pushed her tears away and left the room, closing the door behind her.

Donnie opened his eyes once more. Now, he was alone. He didn't know how to feel. He had lots of mixed emotions, but none of them were good ones after remembering what happened the night before and hearing to what those people were talking about.

He felt scared, without knowing what was next for him and why was that woman so desperate to get him out of there. He felt worried about his brothers. Now, all that these people would use them for was to experiment on them and they didn't have any information on what these people would use them for or why was he missing. He felt frustrated because, for now, he couldn't do anything to avoid him or his brothers to get hurt. He felt sick and full of pain because he was probably drugged and had an open wound with a bullet on the back of one leg, not to mention full of bruises. He wanted to cry, but he didn't had the energy to do it.

As all of those bad feelings were inside of him, there was one that was different from the others. It was hope. That woman he heard talking, if he heard right, was in charge of all of the psychologists and had a high range on the lab. She swore to do anything she could to help them. She told him to be strong and she was right. Being strong was all that he could do now. He needed to keep up the hope, after all, hope was the one thing that would keep him going through that hell.

Suddenly, he heard something. They were strong steps and he could hear them getting louder and louder. Donnie decided to close his eyes and pretended to be asleep once more as he heard the door opening. He noticed they weren't just steps, but also the sound of something that appeared to have wheels. Then, he heard the door closing. The next thing he heard were mostly metallic sounds.

Donatello felt his heart beating faster and faster. He was terrified.

"Time to wake you up." He heard.

Without any warning, he felt a bunch of freezing water splashing all over his body. As he felt the cold, a big wave of pain invaded his body. The pain that he already felt before on his bruises, cuts and the bullet wound he had, grew sharper. Donatello couldn't help but scream as he opened his eyes widely and breathed heavily.

"Wakey wakey, freak." The man grinned with a bucket on his hand. He was a bald, dark skinned and really big guy.

"W-who the h-hell are you?" Donnie managed to speak with his voice shaking along with his body.

"My name is Darron, but for you I will be your worst nightmare." He said with a smile. "I am the boss of all the guards in this place and Dr. Lambert, the owner of the lab, has assigned me a very important task and I'm not planning on letting him down." He smiled. "You see, you made a terrible mistake by sneaking out of your apartment and even worse, breaking into Dr. Everett Olson's office. Dr. Lambert thought about your case and concluded that you knew too much, and we can't let the other three monsters know all this, so from now on, we will use you for something different."

Donnie, still shaking, knew deep down what was going to happen next.

"Now, I don't have to lie to you. You already know that we want to make more of you so we can sell you, but you see, we have a little problem there. We don't know your origins and we need that information to make more of you. Of course, we can clone you, but cloning can be very unpredictable and we would have to sacrifice you to deeply analyze your anatomy, physiology, genetics and all that boring stuff, so we would rather know how the fuck were you created and if they're more of your kind."

Donnie sighted. He hated the idea, but he wasn't going to say a thing. If this lab learned about mutagen and how to make more of them, they will turn random people into mutants so that they could sell them for other labs to torture them just as they were doing with them.

"I'm sorry. I d-don't know where we come from." He lied as he looked at the ground.

"Don't worry. People usually don't know at first. That's why I brought something to help you remember."

With that said, Darren pulled a little table to Donnie's side. Then, as Donnie expected, he could see all kind of objects that only had one goal. Hurt him.

"So turtle, are you going to speak or not?" Darren talked with a big smile on his face.

"I told you I don't know anything."

"Fine. That means I get to start having fun." Darron laughed. "I think that you are not cold enough to remember. Let's cool you down a little bit before I start using my toys."

With that said, he grabbed the thin tube and the needle connected to his arm and pulled it out, making Donnie to let out a small whimper.

"I think you won't be needing this medicine anymore."

As Darron talked, he grabbed the chair where Donnie was tied up to and started pulling it out of the room.

"W-what are you going to do?" Donnie asked, starting to freak out as Darron dragged him by the hallways.

"You'll see."

After some seconds, they arrived to the outside door of what seemed to be a freezer. Donnie could notice another bucket outside the door. Darron opened the room and pulled the chair inside as Donnie felt the temperature running lower and lower.

"This is a small freezer we have here in the cellar. Here, the scientists keep all sort of things that need to be cold, just like you." Darron left the chair where Donnie was inside the room and walked outside to get the bucket. "Now, I don't think that the cold water I poured on you a couple minutes ago is enough, so here goes more."

Before Donnie could say anything, Darron poured the next bucket on him, but this time, the water had ice with it. Donatello scram in pain once more and started shaking one more time.

"That will keep you cold for a while, at least until the water on your body starts freezing and maybe then, you'll remember your origins." He spoke as he walked to the door. "Oh, by the way, this room is at 10 °F, so, think fast. I'll come and check on you in 30 minutes."

"W-what? Darron, n-no! D-don't leave m-me here!" Donnie begged as Darron closed the door behind him. "No!" He scram, shaking harder and harder as he heard Darron's steps getting away.
