Boom-Boom
"Escape one way or another."
Day 4. 08:23 PM.
Donnie finally arrived to the stairs, trying to ignore all the pain he was feeling. With every step he gave, the sharp pain in the bullet hole in his leg was indescribable, but that didn't mattered. He needed to escape. He wouldn't stand another round of torture. He knew he wouldn't make it. Now, he was standing in front of the stairs. He just have to decide where to go.
On a corner, next to the stair railing, he found a broom. A little smile lightened up his face and then, he grabbed it and took off the broom, keeping just the stick. That would help him walk and maybe, he could use it as a weapon in case he needed to defend himself, which was very probable. Then, he looked up to see the floor number. He was now in floor number five and he knew that the apartment was on the sixth floor. He needed to find his brothers and get them out of there so, he knew where he was going next. He sighed and tried to get rid of all the fear he was feeling. Next, he began going upstairs.
After some minutes, he finally managed to arrive to the sixth floor. Donnie walked weakly towards the door that would take him to the hallway outside of the apartment. He stared at it for a moment, noticing that his whole body was shaking. Nervously, he decided to open the door. Donnie stepped into the hallway. It was as dark as he remembered. He looked to the floor and saw some blood stains. The walls were stained too.
Donnie looked to the ceiling and saw that the ventilation ducts were open. His heart started beating faster and he started to wonder if his brothers were actually fine. He knew that they had tried to escape and managed to get to the fifth floor, where Darron was keeping him, but after that, he had no idea of what had a happened to them. All he could do now, was pray for his brothers to be okay. He stared at the door of the apartment. Maybe they were inside. He knew that maybe it was too much to ask for, but what if they were there? He had to check.
He walked, leaning on the broom stick, until he was just in front of the door. He raised his right hand to open it. Even though he tried, his hand wouldn't stop shaking and he couldn't control his breathing.
"Please be here." He murmured and then, he opened the door and stepped inside.
The whole place was a mess. Probably the guards trashed the place when his brothers tried to escape. He closed the door and sighed. Donnie looked in the kitchen and in the living room. He found no one. Then, he went upstairs and looked in the rooms. No one either.
He walked inside of Leo's room and stared at the big hole in the wall, which was supposed to be a window. He saw that it was just a broken screen with amazement. Not even the windows were real. He also looked at the hole in the ceiling and the chair that was lying on the floor. They were also bullet holes in the ceiling. Donnie finally understood how his brothers tried to escape. They tried to jump off the window and when they discovered that they were just screens, they broke the ceiling and crawled their way out.
Donnie let out a small laugh even though his heart was full of sadness, thinking of how his brothers complicated their way out and never thought about going out the door, which have always been unlocked. A moment later, he went downstairs, sad and frustrated. Where were his brothers? Were they alright? He missed them so much.
When he gave the final step of the stairs, the broom stick slipped and made Donnie fall to the floor. A big wave of pain invaded his body as he tried not to scream. He couldn't do this no more. He needed his brothers. Donnie broke down in tears, noticing how he hadn't cried a single tear since Master Splinter's death. He needed to cry. His heart was in pieces and he was alone. He wanted to think that his brothers were fine, but he didn't know that. Why weren't they in the apartment? What kind of experiments were the scientists doing on them? Were they even still alive?
After some minutes of crying, he decided that he needed to stand up. He couldn't lose his hope now that he had gotten so far. He had survived a bullet; he had been tortured for almost 24 hours straight and escaped. Now, all he needed to do, was to find his brothers and get out of that place. He could do it. All he needed was some faith.
Once he was standing up, he walked straight to the kitchen. He hadn't eaten in a long time but the first thing he did was to grab a glass and to fill it with water. He was so thirsty. After drinking two or three more glasses with water, he opened the fridge and started eating whatever he founded. He had never felt so hungry in his entire life. 'Maybe this is how Mikey always feels', he thought as a little smile showed up in his face.
Some minutes passed and Donnie was done eating. He didn't even know how much food had he eaten, but he was now full. Now, at least he had the energies to go out and look for his brothers. He could do it. All he had to do was to sneak into different floors and look for them, hoping that no one could notice him. After all, his brothers had to be fine. They were strong and, just as him, they weren't easy to beat.
Donnie closed the fridge and, before leaving, he noticed that he had to go to the bathroom. He hadn't peed in almost a whole day. A new wave of pain invaded his body as he began to walk again, but he tried to ignore it. That was no time to think about how injured he was. For the second time that day, he managed to climb the stairs and finally, he arrived to the bathroom. He entered, closed the door behind him and started peeing. He thought about how closing the door was somehow stupid, because there was no one else in the apartment.
When he was done peeing, he flushed the toilet and washed his hands. He opened the bathroom door and walked out of it until something made his heart stop. He heard the entrance door of the apartment opening. He froze for a minute, thinking of what to do. Had they found him? He silently returned to the bathroom and closed the door again.
With his heart pounding out of his chest, he began hearing the noises from the outside. It didn't sounded like a bunch of guards entering to the apartment. It was actually kind of quiet. That made him feel a little relief, meaning that they actually weren't looking for him yet. Then, he heard… a woman laughing? He placed his ear on the door, trying to hear better.
"Have I told you that you are the most beautiful woman I've ever known?" That was a man's voice.
"Maybe once or twice." The woman laughed again.
'Oh no, are those people actually flirting downstairs?' Donnie thought. He couldn't believe it. Why did that had to happen to him?
"Have you ever been into this place of the building?" The man asked.
"No, but it's actually pretty romantic, ignoring all the mess and the blood stains on the floor." She giggled.
"Oh, it gets even better upstairs, in the bedrooms."
"Show me and give me that boom-boom, baby."
Donnie's breathing started accelerating as he heard the footsteps walking upstairs.
"Okay, I have to calm down. They will enter a bedroom; they'll stay there and give me a chance to walk away." He murmured to himself as he heard some kisses outside and one of the bedroom doors closing. "Let's just pray for this man to entertain her for more than five minutes."
He sighed and opened the bathroom door slowly, holding his breath. Once he did, he walked silently through the hallway.
'Ugh, they picked my room.' Donnie thought as he shivered, trying to ignore the sounds inside of the room.
He arrived to the stairs. He was halfway there. He could do it. He began walking down slowly, trying to not fall down as before, but if was pretty hard given the fact that he still had a bullet inside of his left leg and had a lot of broken bones. He walked one step at a time holding most of his weight in the stair railing, trying not to fall down until suddenly, a bone cracked on his right arm, which was holding from the railing. Donnie scram in pain as he felt his broken bone breaking even more and he fell down the stairs, making a really loud sound.
As he tried to stand up, he heard the door of the bedroom opening and some footsteps approaching the stairs.
"What the hell?" The man scram as he pulled up his pants and underwear. It was one of the guards.
"Oh, no." Donnie exclaimed, still trying to stand up and to ignore all the pain that was now invading his body.
"What is it, Wade?" The woman asked from the room.
"Dr. Paige, do you remember the purple turtle? The one that Dr. Lambert asked for?"
"Oh my god, is it here?" She exclaimed.
"Yes, but it is very injured. It can't even stand up. I guess it was trying to escape. Dress up, and get out of here, honey. I'm going to call my boss and tell him that I found him."
Donnie felt angry. Was he really that injured? The guard didn't even attacked him. He didn't even freaked out when he saw him. He had to stand up. He could do it. He had to do it before the guard could tell Darron. He then saw a woman with a white coat walk down the stairs. She didn't even looked at him. She just passed him by and walked out the door.
Meanwhile, the guard had enter the room again. Donnie heard him begin to talk to Darron. He had to leave quickly. He gathered all his strengths and stood up. He did it. Donnie tumbled to the kitchen and grabbed the stick he had left there so that he could rely on it to walk. He was about to leave, when the guard saw him.
"Where the hell do you think you're going? More guards are coming here to take you with them. It's useless. You can't even walk."
While the man kept talking, Donnie saw a knife on the kitchen's floor and, without even doubting it, he managed to grab it and, before the guard could even make a move, Donnie threw the knife, which wedged into his chest.
"Argh! How could you, freak?" The man yelled, starting to tumble.
As a really loud alarm started ringing and the whole building lighted up in red, Donnie began to run as fast as he could, stumbling in his way. Meanwhile, the man fell to the floor but, before he passed away, he managed to fire a sleeping dart, which fell into Donnie's leg, who didn't even felt the dart, but started feeling even more dizzy and weak. He felt as if he was going to pass out, but he couldn't do it. Not yet. He had to get somewhere safe.
He tripped as he walked through the hallway but managed to arrive to the stairs. Last time he went upstairs, the guards caught him, so now, he was going downstairs, to the fourth floor, which wasn't in the elevator's numbers. Once again, he fell down the stairs until he arrived to the 4th floor and hit with a grid door that had a lock.
"No…" He whispered.
Donnie was about to pass out, but he had to stand up and open that door before the guards caught him. They were now probably in the apartment and, when they saw what had happened, they would start looking for him and then it was all over.
He let out a scream as he stood. His eyes were closing down. He grabbed the lock and, when he was finally going to try to break it, he noticed that the lock was open. Donnie smiled weakly and opened the door. At least one good thing had to happen.
Donnie then placed the lock back in the door but, this time, he closed it. After that, he saw the door that led to the 4th floor. He opened it and stumbled inside. It led to a dark hallway, but that one was different. It had lots of doors. Before he could saw more, he fell to the floor. The sleeping dart had done his thing and, after all that fighting, Donnie deserved a break. The last thing he saw before closing his eyes, were two bare feet walking towards him.
