Iris could not believe what she witnessed before her. Ikki had not only won against Samantha and her Peppercat, but also defeated her boss and his impressive Medabot in a single blow! She could not look away from the happiness Ikki Tenryou and his Medabot, Metabee, expressed to one another. They certainly deserved their happiness at such impressive victories. She turned towards her fellow Student Council members, expecting for them to be as happy as she, and by extension Ikki, were at the situation. They got their clubroom back, The Screws were taken down a notch, and Ikki would be joining them! Yet, rather than seeing her fellow members happy, the two of them looked at her with a smirk, which was weird. Why were they giving her such a look? It took a moment for her to realize that they were not looking at her with such a look. No, they were looking at Ikki with that expression.

"Is something the matter?" The Student Council President looked at her with confusion.

"The matter? No, in fact everything is great! Now that Ikki defeated Samantha, we get our club room back and order shall come back to the school. No one will mess with us with Ikki at our side as our fighter." The sun, Iris noted, fully set beyond the horizon, bringing the night behind itself. The street lamps, like beacons of truth among the confusion Iris felt, lit up, showing her fellow Student Council members a bit darker than she realized.

"Wait," Iris began, confusion running through her, "I thought Ikki was going to become our new Vice President?"

"As if!" The Vice President laughed. A 'Hey' made Iris turn around to see Ikki and Metabee walking towards them. Ikki, like her, had confusion etched on him, whereas Metabee seemed angry.

"What do you mean I am not becoming the Vice President? We had an agreement!" Ikki's words made Metabee turn to him with widened eyes.

"Wait a minute. You used me just to become something called Vice President!" Metabee shouted, lifting its arm at Ikki with the intention to hurt him. Right as Iris was about to speak the Student Council President put a hand on her shoulder. An action that was most unusual to her.

"And we used him to get what we wanted. But, while waiting for Ikki to retrieve his own Medabot physically, I realized something. Why should we make Ikki, someone who does not meet the qualifications to become a righteous Student Council Member, one of us when all he should be is our enforcer to keep people in line? He likes to Robattle right? So this is a perfect opportunity for him!"

"Dude, that's messed up." Metabee pointed his arm at the Student Council President faster than Iris could keep up with. Right when it seemed Metabee was about to shoot him with a barrage of bullets, Ikki placed a hand on Metabee's raised arm.

"It isn't worth it Metabee." Ikki began, earning looks from the Medabot and Iris. She found herself horrified at the sullen, broken look Ikki wore for the first time she could recall. The face that was normally animated and filled with inspiration was gone. A sight that made her prescription glasses blur with wetness. "I can see that the promise of the Student Council was never going to come true. Lets go."

"But Ikki."

"We're going Metabee!" The sight of Ikki walking away with Metabee by his side should have made her happy. When Iris pictured the two walking away, she expected for them to be happy for a job well done. Excited for the opportunity to work with the Student Council. To make the school a better place for every student. But this? This betrayal from her councilmen she thought she knew? She didn't exactly what she felt at this current moment, but whatever it is, it hurt. It made her disgusted at the idea of being near people like them. She did not join the Student Council with the intent to betray her fellow classmates. As she heard the Student Council President and the Vice President talking among themselves about 'future plans' for the school, she made a decision that, though rash, knew that she was doing what was right.

"I quit!" Iris shouted, catching everyone's attention. She pointed at Ikki, who flinched at the action. As she turned towards her fellow, no, the Student Council, she did not see expressions of confusion or sadness she expected. She only saw anger facing back at her.

"What did you say!"

"What you did," Iris began, staring directly at the Student Council President, "is unforgivable! We ask for his help, promise to make him a member of the council, and your way to repay him is to give him a bancho position as a guard dog? How dare you!" The Vice President reached out to grab her by her right shoulder. 'Was he always so fast' quickly entered her mind as she flinched, closing her eyes from the surprising act.

Only, rather than being pulled forward like she expected, Iris was pulled backwards and heard a loud 'thump' merely inches from her. Opening her eyes, her eyes became widened at the sight before her. Shielding her was Ikki, who was rubbing his forehead as the Vice President laid on the ground with his hands clutching his nose. The wailing of the Vice President became faint as Iris focused on Ikki, who stared at the Student Council President while Metabee, unsurprisingly, stood to Ikki's left with an arm raised to attack.

"Back off you two! I don't want to fight you, but I can't stand someone grabbing a girl like that." The Student Council members ran away, leaving her alone with Ikki and Metabee, her saviors from an unfortunate circumstance. As she stared at Ikki a plethora of thoughts slammed into her brain.

She was no longer a member of the Student Council.

She no longer had any friends, since they were members of the Student Council.

Her entire foundation of what consisted as her school life, activities, and her scheduled routine no longer existed. A routine that no longer existed thanks to Ikki.

Ikki.

The boy who put himself in harm's way to defend her from her old friends.

The person who was betrayed and had no reason to help her, especially since he didn't know that she wrote the letter to him.

The letter, she recalled, was written like a love note.

"Hey," Iris felt her body go red as she realized that Ikki had gotten close to her while she was deep in thought, "are you okay?" She needed to go home and tend to her homework. Yeah, she had homework to do! This interaction could happen tomorrow.

"I'm sorry I got to go, bye!" As she ran away from the area, taking a fleeting glance at Ikki, a single thought entered her head as she left. 'Smooth Iris. Real smooth.'
