Bella's graduation was only a week or so away. However, life was getting incredibly busy. The school paper was going haywire and the yearbook was running behind. At least I had a hobby, unlike Bella.
"Hey, Alice is throwing a graduation party. You know she can see the future, and she, quote, 'sees A LOT about you' in her visions." Bella said to me one day.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, she says that you're going to be a great bridge between the wolves and vampires. You really opened her eyes, it's driving Edward crazy." Bella said, smirking slightly. I smiled to myself.
One day Bella and I drove to La Push, she needed to talk to Jacob and I wanted to spend time with Seth. We took the drive that we were more than used to at this point and pulled in front of Emily's house. Of course we were greeted by the Clearwaters and everyone else in the pack. However, by the time I got out of the car, Bella and Jacob were already walking away.
"Oh, Lizzy, it's great to see you again!" Emily said, rushing to give me a hug. However, she was soon jostled out of the way and before I knew it, Seth was engulfing me in a tight hug.
"Ugh, get a room!" Paul shouted from in the doorway.
"I never get to see you enough." Seth said to me with a smile, putting his hands on my shoulders.
"I know, I'm sorry, it's just that with school and everything…" I was about to begin a long explanation.
"Hey, no need to apologize. I'm here when you need me." Seth said to me.
The next hour was amazing. Some of the pack members were on patrol and we were just talking, running around, and having fun. I was rarely out of Seth's gaze, but it didn't bother me at all, it was comforting.
I heard rustling near the forest path and turned to see Bella, holding her wrist, and Jacob was far behind her. I saw Paul and Embry snicker out of the corner of my eye. Sam was shaking his head in disappointment.
"Ooooh, Lizzy, you have a rough car ride ahead of you." Seth said, his eyes wide in slight shock and discomfort.
"What?" I asked, very confused.
"Well, according to my wolf telepathy, oh boy… uh, Jacob confessed his love for Bella…" Seth began to describe the situation as Bella was furiously walking towards the truck.
"Oh my lord," I interjected.
"She rejected him, stormed off, tripped over a rock and broke her wrist."
"That sounds like Bella." I said with a small shrug. "Guess I'm driving."
"No, Jacob is about to offer in three, two, one…"
"Bella, let me drive you home." Jacob said as Bella struggled to open the passenger seat door. "Are you coming, Lizzy?"
"Yeah, sure." I said, walking towards the car.
That was the most awkward, silent car ride I have ever experienced in my whole life.
"Oh no!" I said under my breath, exasperated, when I saw Edward's car trailing behind us. When all three of us were out of the car, Edward super sped and grabbed Jacob. I drowned out the argument.
"My father can help you." Edward said, looking at my sister's wrist.
"Lizzy, please come with me." Bella said as Edward was leading her to his car.
"Fine!" I exclaimed, following the two of them. I waved goodbye at Jacob before Edward, Bella, and I were speeding off to the Cullens' house, which I've never been to before.
"Well, Lizzy my family is going to hate your wolf stench, but Alice wants you to meet the family." Edward said as he drove.
"Wonderful," I mumbled to myself.
Somehow this car ride was even worse than the one leaving La Push. Edward's face was furrowed into some twisted version of anger, it was difficult to read him. Poor Bella was silently holding her wrist with her classic look of indifference.
We were quite literally driving in the middle of the woods for like thirty minutes, until a giant house appeared out of nowhere. My jaw dropped, it was rectangular and very modern, yet still able to blend into the forest. How rich was this boy and his family? I know Edward's father is a doctor… maybe Edward can stay.
The second Bella, Edward, and I walked through the Cullens' door, Dr. Cullen whisked Bella away to look at her wrist. Then I saw a familiar face, Alice. She swooped towards me with a large smile and squeezed me very tight.
"There you are, Lizzy!" Alice said as she let go of me. I was a little shocked by her forwardness, but I didn't mind it. Edward was already gone so I was left with the rest of the Cullens. Behind Alice was a boy with medium length blond hair. I recognized him from the cafeteria as Alice's boyfriend. "Oh, Lizzy, this is Jasper."
"Nice to meet you." Jasper said, reaching his hand for me to shake. I was taken aback by his slight southern accent. I took his hand, but it was ice cold.
"Hi, Lizzy, I'm Esme." A woman with brown hair styled to perfection shook my hand.. "I'm Carlisle's wife."
"Nice to meet you." I said with a smile trying to hide my awkwardness.
"I'm Emmett and this is Rosalie." A boy with dark hair who was built like a truck told me. He was with the gorgeous blond woman I caught myself staring at during lunch.
"It smells like wet dog in here." Rosalie said, not looking at me. Then she whipped her hair and strutted into a different room.
"Go talk to her for us please." Alice said, gently resting her hand on my shoulder. I nodded slightly and found the room that Rosalie was in.
"Oh, it's you." Rosalie said, rolling her eyes when I walked into the room. "Alice has seen some visions of you. Also… we know you run with the dogs."
"They aren't evil or anything, they just want to protect Forks. I really respect you and your family for only drinking animal blood, but please understand, I know most vampires aren't as… humane." I said.
"Your sister is an idiot." Rosalie said, shaking her head. "Do you know how lucky you are? Well, not really, you risk your life with those dogs."
"Rosalie… they are good people. They are loyal and protective, just try to understand." I said, looking at her even though she wasn't looking at me.
"Now I know where Alice is coming from." Rosalie said, her eyes were clearly welling with tears. "You know, at least you don't have to change to be with the wolves… before all of this, my life was absolutely perfect…" By the time Rosalie finished her story, tears were running down my face.
"Rosalie… I am so sorry that you had to go through that. You deserve so much better than that." I said, I wanted to comfort her but I didn't know how.
However, soon after that, I was waving goodbye at the Cullens and Edward was ushering me back into his car. Great, time for another silent car ride. I found myself staring at the window most of the time. I swear, sometimes I saw giant eyes, strangely familiar, glowing in the forest as Edward's car kept driving.
"Lizzy, Bella, you two certainly have been out late!" Charlie said excitedly, greeting us as we opened the door. "Bella, what happened to your hand? Why is Edward's car driving away?" I walked up the stairs before I could get caught in the crossfire.
I opened the door to my bedroom and turned on the light. Sitting below my window was Seth. What?! I was so shocked that my first reaction was to scream. Seth's eyes widened in fear as I fell to the floor.
"Sorry, I just had to see if you were safe." Seth said, walking to me.
"Everything alright up there?" Charlie shouted from downstairs.
"Yeah, sorry about that, it was just a shadow." I shouted back down. Seth sighed in relief and walked over to me.
"Are you ok?" She asked, cupping my face in her hands.
"Yes, I'm perfectly fine." I said, slightly concerned. However, all of my anxieties were melting away. "What's up?"
"You went to the Cullens' house!" She exclaimed with some fear. "Sam was worried, Emily was worried, you're my imprint, it is my job to protect you." I took Seth's hand, smiled, and squeezed it tightly.
"Listen, they only drink animal blood. I don't agree with how the majority of vampires live, but the Cullens are no threat to you or Forks. Bella and Edward are pretty serious. I was going to meet them eventually." I said, then I wrapped my arms around her neck and gave her a tight hug. "I'm totally safe."
