"I hope you enjoy your last few weeks of summer, y/n." Dad said a week after Bella's wedding. We were sitting at the table in the kitchen, Dad pouring over paperwork with a cup of coffee, while I was still trying to wake up.
"I definitely will." I said, still yawning. "I hope Bella comes back from the honeymoon before I go back to school. I hope she doesn't go off and live in the woods with the Cullens." I knew that if she moved into the Cullens' woodland mansion, she would be turned into a vampire and I would never see her again.
"Don't hold your breath, Lizzy, she's already moved her stuff out." Dad said with a shrug and a sip of his coffee. "I can't wait to see her again though. Thank goodness the Cullens' live close enough. I'm going to miss my Bells."
That broke my heart. I couldn't start crying, that would just confuse Dad, but the fact he didn't realize he may never see Bella again. I didn't know where Bella was, all I knew is that she was with Edward.
"I don't want to go back to college." I said with a sigh. Leah's face flashed before my eyes. "I just want to start working in a newspaper or news station."
"Oh, Lizzy, I'm so glad that I have you at least. You're not going to get married at 18 and leave me are you?" Dad asked, half joking, half serious.
"I can only think of one girl I want to marry." I said, smiling with a blush. Dad spit out his coffee and began to cough.
"Girl? You want to marry a girl?" Dad asked with surprise.
"Yeah, Leah Clearwater," I said, a little nervous about my Dad's reaction.
"That explains why you are with her all the time. She's a very lucky lady to have you." Charlie said with a smile.
"I'm lucky to have her." I said with a giant smile. Then, I got a notification from my phone.
Bella: If you are my sister and you love me you will come to the Cullens' house and not say a word to Charlie.
Holy shit.
"Is that the lucky girl?" Dad asked. "You can go along to the rez."
"Ok," I said quietly. Then, I got another notification.
Jacob: Lizzy, please get to the Cullens' house.
I hopped into the red truck and skirted out of the driveway. I was definitely breaking the speed limit, I didn't really care though, I had no idea what was going on. Bella was a few weeks early, why can't I tell Dad, what is going on?
I was trying my very best to speed my way towards the Cullen Mansion. My mind was racing, I don't think I have ever been more nervous in my life. This was surreal, the entire landscape of Forks was passing through my window.
Finally, I saw their shiny mansion stick out of the woods. I slammed my foot on the breaks when I made it to the Cullens' driveway. All of the sudden, Jacob burst the door open when I stepped out of the car.
"Jacob!" I said with surprise as he angrily stomped past me. "I saw your father at the wedding. Where were you?"
"Sorry, Lizzy, I have to go." Jacob said. He sprinted past me and then pulled off his shirt. Then his body morphed into his wolf form. I somehow haven't seen many of the werewolves phase despite being around them for a while.
Jacob left the Cullens' door wide open. I immediately sprinted inside, slamming the door behind me. I was out of breath when I finally made it up the full flight of stairs. I gasped and covered my mouth when I saw Bella. She was completely surrounded by the Cullen family, and she looked simply sick.
Her eyes were surrounded by large dark circles. She looked like she had lost nearly twenty pounds. What really shocked me was Bella's stomach. Bella looked like she was pregnant, but her stomach was covered in bruises and it was weirdly shaped.
"Ew," I said out loud. That was out of pocket, whoops. Edward's face was horrified by my admittedly rude reaction.
"Bella's pregnant, and it is killing her, Lizzy. This baby is half vampire, it's eating her from the inside. Please, I'm begging you Lizzy, try to convince her to get rid of the fetus." Edward looked at me with sorrowful eyes. That was a bad idea.
The rest of the Cullens began to scream. The words "baby", "murder", "Bella's health", and "what Bella wants" were common occurrences. Bella buried her face in her hand. That was it, I had to say something.
"Alright! Everybody shut up!" I screeched. "This isn't about any of you. Bella is the one risking her life for this fetus, and scientifically it is a fetus, this is her choice. No one has a right to decide what Bella does with her womb." I looked at Bella deeply in her tired eyes. "What do you want, Bella?"
"I want this baby." Bella said, mustering up a smile. Not the answer I wanted.
"That is the end of it." I commanded, looking around at the Cullens in disappointment.
"She's a feisty human." Emmett said, smiling at me. "You'd make an excellent newborn."
"Enough!" Rosalie exclaimed, who then looked at me and placed her cold hand on my arm. "Lizzy, I really think you should leave. I don't want you to see this. I don't want to ruin your chances with the wolves. Please, go to the wolves, tell them to leave Bella alone. Jacob has probably already gotten there."
"Oh no." I said to myself. "The wolves are definitely not happy about this."
"Neither are the Volturi." Dr. Carlisle said to me. Volturi… oh right, Edward told me about them once.
"Where's Jacob?" I asked, remembering he left the Cullens' house earlier. The Cullens' face fell, and Edward's face was twisted in quiet rage. "This isn't gonna end well." I said under my breath, whipping out my phone.
Me: Have you talked to Jacob at all today?
No response, oh no. Then, Dad texted me.
Dad: It's getting late when are you coming home?
Me: I'm eating dinner at Emily's house tonight.
Dad: Well, hurry up, I hate not having Bells around, makes me nervous.
"Lizzy, I don't think you'll be safe here." Carlisle said, looking down at me with a concerned look on his face.
"Well, neither is Bella." I said. "I know I can't stay here, Charlie expects me home pretty soon, but I want to be with Bella."
"Am I the only one who smells that?" Emmett said, sniffing. The other vampires began to notice and their faces scrunched up. "Wolf stench." Finally, my phone went off.
Seth: Look out the window.
I rushed towards one of the many, large windows of the Cullen mansion. I looked out the window to see three familiar shadows, standing near the creek. It was Jacob, Seth, and Leah. I gasped and bolted down the stairs and out the door.
I bolted down the driveway and rushed towards the creek. Jacob, Seth, and Leah turned around and looked concerned when they saw me. However, Leah broke away from the three of them and she rushed to give me a hug.
When she hugged me, she wrapped her arms around me and I felt encased in a warm, secure blanket. Speaking of warmth, the werewolves were so warm, when Leah hugged me it felt like I had a fever. I inhaled deeply, I didn't smell the awful wolf stench, just the tangy smell of sweat and excursion.
"All right, imprints, that's enough." Jacob said, crossing his arms, and giving Leah and I a look. "I broke away from the Uley pack."
"What?" I asked, concerned.
"They want to kill Bella." Jacob said, his voice was firm and static.
"What?!" I screamed.
"They're worried about the hybrid baby, Lizzy. They're worried it'll be a threat to the town and the pack." Leah said, her fiery, sharp eyes showing fear. I cupped her face with one of my hands and she rolled her eyes.
"I left to join Jacob and Leah followed me." Seth said with a small smile. "We're not going to let any vampires or wolves harm your sister."
"Thank you, all of you." I said, squeezing Leah hand and smiling at her. "It breaks my heart this is happening. Why can't the wolves and vampires just, I don't know, get along?"
"You already know the answer to that question." Jacob said with a sigh. "Lizzy, you should probably go home."
"You're right, Charlie is already getting worried." I said, before I looked around at the Black pack. "Text me if you need me." I looked up at Leah. I don't know why but I leaned into her and gave a kiss on her lips. Leah gave a large smile when I pulled away from her, and walked over to the red truck Billy Black gave Bella.
"Wait, y/n," Edward Cullen's voice shocked me. I gave a small yelp when I heard his voice. I turned around and looked at him.
"Jeez, Edward, you scared me." I said, trying to calm down.
"I can read Leah's thoughts, and… she's a good person." Edward said, nodding. "So's her brother, Seth. They are a good family, you're lucky to have her."
"I know. Thanks, Edward, I know I've been a little cold towards you, but, you take good care of my sister, and you're not a bad guy." I said with a small smile.
I hopped into the red truck, closed the door, and grabbed the steering, but it didn't even feel real. I slammed my foot on the gas and sped off into the night. It was very dark by the time I pulled into my driveway.
"Hey Dad, I'm home." I said when I opened the door. Charlie was sitting at the kitchen, elbows on the table, his hands crossed, staring off into the distance. "Dad?"
"Bella's sick, Lizzy." Charlie said, his voice was shaking.
"What do you mean?" I asked, doing my very best to pull off surprise.
"She told me she caught some virus in Brazil, by the sound of it, it's really bad." Charlie said. I couldn't say anything, so I just wrapped my arm around Charlie's shoulder and gave him a side hug.
"Don't worry, Dad, everything will be ok." I lied.
