No, your eyes are correct, this isn't a joke, it's real. A new chapter has been added for the second time this week! Enjoy!
I felt something hit my chest. Then a loud voice harassed my ears, "You idiot! I told you not to bleed in my car! Yet you can't even accomplish that! You had one job!"
I groaned in response. My eyes were still closed, I must have passed out or something. My head pounded and my chin stung, but the nausea was overwhelming.
"I swear you're paying for the clean-"
Before Triton could finish, I unbuckled my seatbelt, threw the car door open, and fell out of the car landing on my knee and hands and threw up my lunch all over the parking lot.
"Geez what the hell is wrong with you today!" Triton yelled at me.
"What's going on over here?" Mrs. Nereid's voice said a couple yards away. I could here her footsteps come closer and closer./
Triton's car door opened and slammed shut. I could hear him stomp over to where I'm at.
"Oh dear lord..." he mumbled.
"Triton what's with all the commotion over there?" Mrs. Nereid said coming closer to the car. I see another pair of shoes round the corner then I hear a gasp, "Oh Percy what happened?".
Before I can respond she helped me up and carefully led me away from my expelled lunch. She then help me sit back down and lean me against Triton's car.
"What are you doing just standing there? Go get your father!" Nereid snapped her fingers at Triton, and he sped off.
"You are bleeding everywhere. Your pupils are huge too. What happened? Did Triton do this?"
I shook my head which made me light headed and nauseated again. I leaned my head back relishing the coolness of the car.
"Ok. Do you know where you are at?" She asked.
I scrunched my brows, "I'm at school."
"No Percy. You're outside of your father's aquarium. We're in the parking lot."
"Oh" I stared up at the sky blinking black spots from my vision.
"What's going on over here?" My father's voice filled the air.
"I'm not quite sure, he hasn't said much. He has this nasty cut on his chin. I suspect a head injury as well, his pupils are huge and he is having troubling remembering. Plus he vomited, I think he has a serious concussion." Nereid informed.
My father's face appeared in my vision. I blinked trying to make my eyes focus. He crouched down to my level and grabbed a flashlight. He turned it on and shined it to my eyes.
I quickly shut my eyes as the light burned them making my head pound to increasing levels. I try to swat his hand away, but as I lifted my hands from the pavement to do so I started to loose my balance. Poseidon tried to catch me but it was too late, I face planted onto the pavement.
"-I swear he was okay when we left school. His chin was bleeding but he was standing up fine and all. He didn't say what happened either." Triton explained desperate.
I opened my eyes not knowing when I closed them in the first place. I realized that I was lying on my back now.
"I don't know Poseidon, maybe we should call an ambulance?" Nereid suggested.
"Well he's awake now" Triton pointed out.
Nereid and Poseidon leaned over me again. Their faces swam in my vision before focusing again.
"Do you think you can handle sitting up?" My father asked. I thought about it for a moment before nodding my head slowly. Both Poseidon and Nereid help me up in a sitting position leaning against Triton's car.
"Triton go bring my car over here". Poseidon tossed his keys to Triton. "I'll drive him to the emergency room."
Triton took off in the direction of Poseidon's car. "Are you gonna tell us what happened or we're just gonna keep guessing?" Poseidon asked.
"I fell down a flight of stairs at school". I mumbled.
"I thought they told me you will have free access to the elevator?" My father frowned.
"I do."
"Then why did you take the stairs?"
I don't know the reason why I decided to keep quiet from what really happened. But it didn't feel right to snitch on Luke. Though it did feel right to snitch on somebody else however.
"I was chewed out by a teacher for being late to class due to a traffic jam, they told me to take the stairs next time, so I did."
Poseidon had an incredulous look on his face, while Nereid rolled her eyes to the sky, "Let me guess, it was Miss. Dodd's right?" She asked.
I nodded, but regretted it afterwards since it made my head throb. Poseidon turned to her as if he was gonna ask for more, but Nereid waved him off "I'll tell you more later."
Poseidon's car pulled in next to us. Triton parked it and got out. "Alright Percy lets get you out of here." Poseidon slowly help me get to my feet while Nereid grabbed my crutches.
I swayed slightly on my foot but had firm hands gripping my biceps so I wouldn't fall. They slowly sat me down in the passenger seat and shut the door.
"Thank you so much Ariel. You been a great help." My father thanked Nereid.
"No problem. I always make it a priority to watch out for my students. I'll make a complaint about Miss. Dodd's tomorrow morning. I doubt anything will be done about it though."
My father thanked her again before turning his attention towards Triton, "Go ask Nerus what needs to be done and inform him that I will not be returning tonight." Triton nodded and headed towards the building with Mrs. Nereid.
Poseidon got into the driver seat. He turned to look at me,"Did you really fall down a flight of stairs?"
I frowned, "Yes, I smacked my head against the the wall during the fall."
"Alright I believe you. Must of smacked that head pretty hard, you were unconscious for a solid five minutes after you face planted a couple of minutes ago."
"Oh".
"You're gonna need to try and stay awake for me until we can get you to a hospital. Your head injury seems severe, I don't want to take any chances."
Poseidon pulled out of the parking lot and made his way to the nearest hospital. It was very hard to keep my eyes open. I feel them start closing and I use all my strength to reopen them again. It felt like an eternity before we pulled into the emergency room, but in reality it was a five minute drive.
I struggled with crutches to make it to the waiting room. But alas I collapse into one of those plastic chairs. I try to ignore the stares coming from the other sick or injured patients. I leaned my head back and stared at the ceiling.
After Poseidon checked me in with the front desk, he came back with a stack of paperwork to fill out. He sat down with a grimace seeing on how uncomfortable those chairs really are. I rest my head on his shoulder, I haven't done this since for a solid seven years, but I was too weary to even care.
"You're not falling asleep on me are you?" He asked slightly panicked.
I huffed out a no, and continued to watch as he filled out my information onto the papers. He finished rather quickly and got up to return the papers to the front desk. I leaned my head back once more groaning as my pillow left me.
I squinted at the ceiling as i watch the ceiling tiles dance before my eyes. I watched in interest as they swam from left to right and grew brighter and darker with each passing second.
I was too entranced by this illusion that I didn't hear a nurse call my name or hear my dad trying to get my attention.
I was broken out of my trance by a rough shake to the shoulders followed by, "-Perseus I swear..."
I blinked at him and rubbed my eyes.
"Oh thank the lords. Percy come on let's get you checked out." He helped me sit up straight. I realized besides him there was nurse with a wheel chair giving me a smile but her eyes were filled with worry.
I grabbed onto my father's hand for support as he helped me get into the wheelchair. The other patients in the waiting room were staring at me, and I lowered my eyes from them.
The nurse started to wheel me to the back rooms. She wheeled me to a corner that had a gurney and pulled the curtains closed.
"Alright I'm just gonna take your blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate." She pulled out a cuff that had cables attached to it and strapped it to my arm. I winced at the increasing pressure as it tightened around my arm. She took out a fancy tool, and slid it over my forehead that beeped. Then she took a clip and placed it on my index finger.
"Good. A doctor will be with you shortly. Go ahead and lay in the stretcher while you wait." The nurse left and I followed her instructions. I didn't bother to make small talk with Poseidon either as I am way too tired to keep up. I made peace by watching the ceiling but was rudely interrupted.
"Uncle P what did little cuz do now? Haven't seen you two in over a year it's been too long"
I inwardly groaned as Apollo's cheerful voice filled the small space. He had the scrubs and a typical white lab coat over it. He held a large tablet in his hand and he was scrolling through it.
Poseidon's brow furrowed, "I thought you didn't graduate med school until May? Did I miss something?"
Apollo glanced up from the tablet, "Nah, I work as a intern here. But good news that I can graduate in December because I'm just that smart. Anyways Percy came in here for a head injury, correct? Ok let's- Holy shit your leg's missing!" Apollo had wide eyes as he glanced between my father and I.
I snorted and carefully shifted my head so I could look at my father, "You didn't tell anyone what happened did you?"
He sheepishly smiled, "No I didn't. Haven't really spoken to anyone since April. I should probably call Hestia..."
Apollo gotten over his initial shock as he put a pen behind his ear and shook his head. "No one tells us anything anymore. Alright about the head, what happened?"
"I might of fell down the stairs."
"You did? What are you symptoms? Do you have any nausea? Loss of vision? Loss of conscious? Memory loss? Anything of that sort? The nurse told me you seemed out of it in the waiting room."
Before I could reply Poseidon beat me to it, "Yes to all of the above. He puked in the parking lot of my rescue, forgot where he was, then lost consciousness for five minutes."
Apollo typed all of it up before looking up with a frown, "All of that by falling down the stairs? How many stairs are we talking here?"
I rolled my eyes, "I don't know maybe fifteenish? I wasn't counting them. All I know is that I hit my head on the wall and my chin hit the floor."
"Hmm... must have had a lot force behind that fall. I'll take a quick look in your eyes and feel around your head to make sure everything is okay."
Apollo set down the tablet and ask permission to feel around the head. I gave a nod as he ran his fingers gently around head, hissing once he found a large knot on the back of my skull. He then took out a small flashlight and shone it my eyes. I couldn't help but flinch at the brightness.
"I suggest an MRI scan to be done to check his head. I don't think the cut on his chin needs stitches, I think it can be glued together. But again technically I'm not a doctor yet so I have to consult with higher ups to finalize his treatment plans. I'll be back shortly." He left the little area, leaving me alone with Poseidon once more.
Poseidon's phone rang breaking the awkward silence. "Shit... it's Hestia". His face dawned a look of horror before picking up the phone.
"My dear sister it's been too long." My father tried to make his voice cheerful to mask his tone of guilt.
"Ahh you talked to Jason and Thalia today. How are the brats?... They mentioned Percy?... Yeah he's here in New York. I was going to tell you I swear... I know its been three months but things just settled down a bit..."
I listened to the one sided conversation for a bit. Amused by my father being flustered for his actions.
"You want to see him?... Well there's been an accident today... No it's nothing too severe I think, but we're at the emergency room... Yes sister I know... What does Hera have anything to do with this? Tell her to mind her own business... Yes you can come over tomorrow, but don't you dare bring Hera. I mean it Hestia. I don't need a lecture from her on how a family should behave...Yes I'll tell Percy. Alright see you tomorrow. Good night Hestia."
Poseidon hung up and look at his phone with a sigh, "Hestia is joining us for dinner tomorrow. Apparently Thalia and Jason told her about school and how you were there. Hera overheard them talking and now is throwing a fit about not being informed personally and is now telling everyone what happened."
I snorted, "It has been months since the accident. Did you think they would just accept not being told something this significant? You should have seen Thalia and Jason's face after seeing me today."
Poseidon buried his face in his hands and sighed, "I know I should have said something. But I wasn't in the correct head space to do so then. I didn't even know what to do, the thought to contact them never really passed through my mind then."
I was taken back by that confession. It brought me flashbacks to the hospital in California, and how scared, confused, and out of place he looked in the first two months. I grew a little bit more sympathy towards him.
Apollo and another doctor have chosen this time to enter the space. Apollo explained what needs to be done and the senior doctor nodded in agreement. They proceeded to tell us on what to expect from the scan and talked about possible care plans for the future.
The car ride home was silent as I wasn't in the mood to talk. The loud MRI machine made my head throb even more than I thought was possible. Those thirty minutes in the MRI were the longest of my life, since I had to stay still and my adhd didn't help with that.
They clarified that it was indeed a concussion, and I came lucky that I didn't receive brain damage from the fall, or didn't have bleeding of the brain. They also glued the cut on my chin shut.
We soon pulled into the driveway of the house and we got out. My father lagged behind me to make sure I didn't fall with my crutches.
Amphitrite was waiting by the front door, her face had a frown etched into it. I passed her and went into the kitchen and slouched down on a kitchen chair.
Poseidon wordlessly handed me pain killers and anti inflammatory medicine the doctor prescribed. I gratefully took it with a glass of water. Poseidon quietly told his wife about the situation. I could tell Amphitrite was holding back anger, her hands were quenching behind her back.
Poseidon turned his attention towards me again. "I've decided you're staying home for the rest of this week, maybe stay home next week too. I think we might have rushed school on you too soon. I'll be home as well this week, and put Nerus on call again so I can monitor you."
I nodded feeling like I was a little kid again in need of constant watch. I bit my tongue to not say anything. I sighed instead.
Wonderful.
