Kyogre

The Deep Sea Pokemon

A mythical creature of tremendous power, often worshipped by the southern ancient people of Hoenn for its manifestation of the Oceans. Kyogre is neither benevolent nor aggressive as far as we have understood. He cares not for humans nor Pokemon, yet through his desire we have a balanced eco-system between land and ocean. The Ancients had at first worshipped this Legend as a peaceful deity yet after witnessing its drawn upon presence and how this monstrous creature submerged the land into the sea with but a thought, they realized the sheer difference between a Legend and a Pokemon. In the few accounts, Kyogre is often to be noted as having an instinctual hatred with the Land Mass Pokemon, Groudon. Of the few records found within deep caverns and underwater caves, we know that these two Legends have battled against each other for centuries upon centuries, neither coming out as victor yet neither one losing, an eternally balanced war. Until the Hand of Land and the Eyes of the Deep, two fanatically religious groups, each one choosing to have one of the Legends as their main deity of worship, and as with human reasoning, carrying on the rivalry between the two Legends and actively seeking out to snuff the other group.

To properly understand what happened, one must first realize a few fundamental rules of Mega Evolution. As understood from the current research of the various Pokemon Researchers on this subject, a Pokemon which can Mega Evolve needs to first have an Evolution stone tied specifically to its origins. One cannot use a Mega-Stone for a Dragonite on a Charizard. The two fundamental energies that make up the Pokemon, while similar for they all share the same ancestor, are still different enough that the only outcome would be failure. It is theorised however that these differences did not exist centuries ago, back when Pokemon and Humanity were younger and that should one have tried to Mega Evolve a Charizard with a Mega-Stone keyed to Dragonite, then there could have been a chance for such an event to happen. These though are theories, and are currently incapable of being proven unless one gains access to a Time-related Legend and goes back in time for research.

That however is only the one side of Mega Evolution. While a Mega-Stone is absolutely necessary, so is a Key Stone, one that is again tied to the origins of the Pokemon. This key stone is held by what we currently call a Pokemon Trainer, however, anyone can use such a mysterious device. It is not fully known where such things came from or if they are simply the natural by-product of type-infested environments such as Charific Valley, where deep in the ground a sizable deposit of Charizardite can be found. Key stones, unlike Mega-Stones, can only be used by humans.

And this brings us to the third fundamental rule of Mega Evolution. It is unknown as to why but for Mega-Evolution to happen, there first must be a powerful connection between the Pokemon holding the Mega-Stone and the Human holding the Keystone. Along with the fact that not all Pokemon have a Mega-Evolution, those that do require a human operator and a powerful connection to said operator.

Yet this is what makes Legends so mind baffling. Legends are Pokemon without evolution, having reached the 'perfect' stage, simply by being created as such by The Creator. A Legend is by all reasoning, the top of the food chain, without the need of the natural evolution that comes to other Pokemon, with the odd one or two here which would most correctly be called a "form" change such as Giratina who can change from the legless form, otherwise known as the "Reverse Form" into the "World Form", in which it grows legs. Shaymin is another example, however one to be addressed somewhere later down the line. Nonetheless, it has been noted, at least for the Hoenn Legends that while they do not have a Mega-Evolution, they do possess a Primal Form. This form was discovered centuries ago, when the Eyes of the Deep crafted a silver orb and infused it with psychic powers that forced the Pokemon connected to it, to evolve, regardless of a desire to do so. Through unknown means, these fanatics got a hold of Kyogre's DNA and added it to the orb, changing the colour to blue and soon enough this, Blue Orb was presented to Kyogre. Here comes the point of contention. Is the Primal Stage an evolution or a devolution? Kyogre, was at best described, peaceful, uncaring towards other creatures yet once this stage appeared, the Legend went into a rage and soon started destroying the surrounding landscape. It was only thanks to the intervention of Groudon and Rayquaza who fought together and calmed the other Legend enough that Kyogre simply returned back to the depths. It must be noted that reports of a Red Orb have been seen throughout the years and various plots have been made to acquire either Orb, most likely by the aforementioned cults. Once again, it is unknown if the change caused by the orbs is painful and as such causes the Pokemon to rage out, or if it devolves the Pokemon into a more primal and instinctual stage.

Rolland Tript was getting really anxious, following his superior down to the Slaterport City beach for what was supposed to be a very important mission. Even though they were in civilian clothing, he still felt uncomfortable walking in public, unlike Evelyn Dests, his superior. Her dark blue hair fell down in waves, reaching her lower back, while her striking red eyes were hidden behind a pair of half-frame round glasses. Her clothing was simple, blue jeans with a form-fitting shirt, that drew eyes to her bust, with a weird symbol in front, shaped like the letter n with a line in between the ends of the letter.

His anxiety was getting the best of him and soon he spoke up, "Huh Ms. Dests, why are we here exactly?" She seemed to ignore him at first but then she turned her head to look at him over her shoulder. With a brilliant smile, she stated simply, "Why, we're here to enjoy the rain." As she continued to walk, Rolland had to mentally scratch his head. 'Today is a sunny day, and it's summer. Rain won't be here for at least a couple of months.' Deciding to not dwell on the illogical statement, he followed her to the beach. Passing by all the people there, enjoying their time with their family and friends, it kind of brought a sense of nostalgia to him, remembering the times he would come here with his family, before the divorce and the bankruptcy. Sighing, he shook his head to clear his thoughts before looking at the blue-haired lady who came to a stop at the edge of the beach, the water barely coming up to her sandal covered feet.

He looked on as she hummed to herself a small tune, while gazing across the sea. Soon she spoke, "Ah what a wonderful feeling, seeing the waters slowly coming as if trying to overtake the ground. Soon enough they will." Rolland felt a shiver go up his spine as he heard her words, wondering what she meant. "Ms. Dests, eh what are you saying?" She ignored him and simply started humming again, as she reached into the bag she was holding before pulling out a strange blue orb that seemed to pulse erratically. Rolland felt himself go pale, as he rushed towards her, "The hell are you doing woman! Are you trying to get us all killed? Since when did the boss give you this?"

She raised an eyebrow, "This isn't his to give out to whoever he pleases. This orb has been in my family since its creation and now that I finally have it, I will not hesitate to use it for its purpose. So little man, stay your hand and watch as history is made right." Rolland snarled before throwing out his Pokemon, causing the people who were simply enjoying their day to turn around and look in apprehension at the potentially destructive battle that would play out. "Enough of this farse. I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but clearly, you're going behind the boss's back. Swampert, use Water Gun and take that orb back!"

Evelyn smiled slightly, "My my, a Swampert, and a healthy specimen at that. How wonderful, however, there is no point. Ludicolo, Ice Beam." In an instant, Swampert was enveloped in a block of ice, unable to move. Rolland stared with wide eyes as his starter, his best-friend was frozen in ice and with a Brick Break, the ice broke and Swampert was thrown back, crashing into the sand and not getting up. "Be glad that Ludicolo merely knocked him unconscious. After all, there are ways to kill a Pokemon trapped in ice. Now onto important business." With those terrifying words, Rolland was left to take care of his starter, as the people crowded around him and started asking questions. He could only watch in horror as the female raised the orb above her head, "Oh Lord of the Seas and Master of the Oceans. Come forth once again and envelop the land with your mighty power. Drown out the sand, cover the mountains and bring about a new world! Kyogre!"

Rolland's eyes widened in disbelief, realising what's happening. Turning to the stunned crowd, "Get out of here! Run, quickly! Get away from any body of water, Team Aqua is attacki-" Rolland choked and watched as his vision started fading, the only thing he could see where the horrified faces of the people as Evelyn's voice sounded out, "My oh my. I can accept many things, but credit is meant to be given to the right people you know? Team Aqua has nothing to do with this. This is the work of the Eyes of the Deep!" With that, Ludicolo pulled his arm out of the grunt's stomach, letting the dead man fall down, causing the crowd to break out in panic, as they all rushed to escape the murderer.

Deep within the Oceans, It swam through the cold waters, calm and detached, flying through the currents as if they never existed, as if they twisted around It. However, Its peace was soon disturbed as It heard a familiar call, one that It remember centuries ago, one that caused It unimaginable pain and forced It to change form. It could feel it, the psychic energies gripping hold of Its body, the once painful transformation was happening even from a distance, the only difference is, the pain was non-existent. 'Very well humans, such is what you want, such is what you will have.' With a beat of Its wing-like fins, Kyogre surged through the seas at incredible speeds, traversing through the waters with an ancient fury ready to be poured out, and very soon It would reach the call.

Back at Slaterport

Evelyn hummed the tune her mother had taught her when she was younger, waiting patiently for the Lord of the Seas to arise. Years of research, years of searching, and planning finally coming to fruition. She had fought her way to the top of a Criminal Organization, adhering to that man's orders simply for this day. Her family would be avenged, their community will finally be remembered and soon again, the Eyes of the Deep will be feared and revered once more. As she stared at the waves, she wasn't disappointed. They were heading towards her location, ever-increasing in size and in speed, ever-increasing in their fury. 'This is it.' She shivered in excitement, as she released Swanna, before getting on her and flying up. The waves were nearly here. It was time.

Professor Oak sighed as he watched Ash and Surtr training. It has been months since that trip of theirs where they returned covered in blood and traumatized, having realised what they've done. When confronted by the Police, Oak had claimed self-defense as clearly Team Rocket had been looking to poach Pokemon and tried to take Surtr. When asked why a ten-year-old had a Pokemon, Oak simply stated that Ash was an intern and as such required to have a Pokemon partner for safety. He could have used the hole found out by Gary, but he figured that unless absolutely necessary, it was best to keep that card close to his chest, this way more Professors could help others by giving them Pokemon Starters and hopefully, training them up. The Police where satisfied and once they were done, some of them came up and congratulated Ash for his "taking care of the trash."

Oak rolled his eyes and reprimanded them for that before he moved to Ash. As expected, the boy was traumatized and didn't know what to think. On one hand, he stopped them from harming him and his friend and any others, but on the other hand Surtr and he had slaughtered people like they were nothing. It was sickening. Thankfully, Professor Oak knew how to handle such a situation, having had to face a few similar situations himself. "Ash, you had to do what you had to do. It was you or them and you chose yourself. However, never forget. All life is precious and if possible, should not be taken. Never forget Ash." They had sat down and discussed what had happened in-depth, and when they reached the part where Ash sort of blacked out and attacked, Oak had an interesting theory. "You say that Surtr and yourself are able to feel each other's emotions, correct? That should you feel joy, he feels it as well. If he should feel saddened, you would as well. Correct?" At Ash's nod, the aged Professor continued, "Hmm it could be an empathic link, one that revolves and incites emotions inside of you. Think of it like a circular ride, should you start feeling angry, the Surtr doesn't simply feel that anger, he also gets angry himself and in turn that is an anger you feel as well. Soon you two are playing off each other and quite possibly entering a literal emotional rollercoaster that can only go in circles."

"How do we fix that?" Ash wasn't scared; however, he could see the problem with such a thing, especially in a stressful situation where they had to keep a…" Ah I see you figured it out? Of course, a Calm Mind will always prevail in such situations, as such it is imperative that Surtr learns this move well while you learn to meditate and control yourself. Not an easy task, however, something tells me you'll be getting the hang of it sooner rather than later. Now that that is done, it is time to move onto something else. Tell me, what do you know about Pokemon moves and why it is the consensus that certain Pokemon simply can't learn certain Pokemon moves?"

That was an enlightening discussion, in which Ash learned that there are very few restrictions to actually learning a move and that what it takes is simply discipline and an open mind. Granted, Surtr wouldn't be learning Dive any time soon, however, moves such as Ice Punch could in fact be taught, difficult though it may be. While normally a Pokemon would draw power from its own core to use an attack, there are notable Pokemon that can use the surrounding energies to manifest an attack, whether it's the same type or not. That's why powerful Pokemon such as Dragons, or Psychic Pokemon have the ability to use multiple type attacks. Dragons are much more attuned to the natural world energies, Psychic Pokemon have an unparalleled grasp on the Psychic energies which allow them to manipulate other energies, and it goes on, with each type having its own natural capabilities and then the extra learned types.

Oak had mentioned something that was very helpful when Ash mentioned how they knew all these things. "Truthfully Ash, we barely know anything about Pokemon and their abilities. We know quite a bit about their physical structure, though even then it can be seriously mind-boggling. Most of what we know is simply theories that we have developed through following the evidence that we have seen. This doesn't mean what we know is not true, simply that we do not have scientific evidence to logically play it out and recreate it. However, through the help of people gifted with psychic powers and Aura, we at least know these things are indeed true."

Ash frowned, "So you basically have faith that there is something there which you can't see…" Oak chuckled, "We might not be able to see it, but we can see the results of it. Reality is not subjective Ash, simply because someone doesn't believe in Pokemon, doesn't mean they will stop existing. We follow the evidence where it leads, trying to be as objective as possible. That is what we do, and that is what you should do as well, whenever you do research." Ash nodded with a contemplative look on his face. The aged professor spoke up, breaking him out of his thoughts, "Alright then Ash. Just so you know, we'll be having guests in a month, the granddaughter of my old friend Emelie will be visiting. Cynthia, I believe her name was and she's around your age…maybe a few years older, I forget. Anyway, she is a bright young woman you know, very knowledgeable in archaeology, though mostly centered around the Sinnoh Region. She is also a very good battler supposedly, so I'm sure you can learn a thing or two from her. Along with the young Shirona, I asked Emelie if she could contact someone who might be able to help you better with the changes you've undergone, maybe guide you with your Aura and give you some good tips on what you can do." Ash's eyes lit up at the prospect of the Aura user visiting. "That would be great professor! I can't wait."

Oak hummed as Ash ran off to tell the news to Surtr, glad to see the young lad being excited once again. The old man could tell Ash was still feeling down, with it having been his first birthday a few weeks back without his mother. It had been a strong reminder of her death; however Leaf and Gary came through and helped distract Ash, Oak had never been prouder.

Dark blue eyes gazed out at the sea, wondering what Arceus had in store for him. Emelie Shirona had sought him out, with what she called an enticing offer but for him it was very different.

"Extreme healing and capable of fighting Pokemon one on one Riley! What more do you need?"

Her words sat in his head, heavy on his shoulders and constantly making him go through all that he knew about the history of Aura Guardians. Even amongst them, this child was abnormal. There are no records of Guardians being able to do such things, no mysterious prophecies, nothing. Even the grandmasters of old would have been skeptical of such claims, yet he knew Emelie Shirona. He knew she would never mess with such things unless there was some truth to her words. So here he was, a month away from meeting the first unnatural Aura User, a freak of nature according to all logical conclusions.

"You seem to be troubled Aura Guardian." Young and collected, Cynthia Shirona while mature compared to others her age and quite smart when it comes to Archaeology, still held an arrogant air around her. 'Problems of renown' Riley merely grunted, not in the mood for a conversation, his eyes drinking in the turbulent waters. "Hmm, the mysterious, silent type. Tut tut. That's no way to treat a lady you know. Very well, I see you wish to be left alone." With that, the youth turned and left, a bit miffed at being ignored like that.

Riley shook his head and kept his gaze forward and sharp. As the waters slammed into the boat with surprising force, he could only wonder what is going on with this world.

A/N So Ash is officially twelve years old.
