Catching Tutorial/Story coming up.
Disclaimer/Plot: this takes place after the events of the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Games where Dawn/Lucas become champions of Sinnoh, in this case Lucas.
Sinnoh at its Roots
Laventon sighed, the Pokédex project is progressing slower than he'd like and there's nothing he can really do about it. The Poké Ball is still a very new invention with only a few people having a talent for using the small marvels of science.
He tapped a calligraphy pen on some parchment that detailed the specific behaviors of some of the less aggressive Pokémon in the Obsidian Fieldlands.
Just as he was about to stand up a loud boom echoed through the entire Galaxy Team building. His Pokémon fleeing at the sound, making their way to the front door that was opened by the Security Corp member that usually guards it.
Said corp member was unfortunately slammed to the ground by the running/flying Pokémon, Laventon chasing after them as they made their way in the direction of Prelude Beach.
He silently wondered why they fled to the location they chose, but he was a scientist he will find the reason.
Laventon's Pokémon turned the corner that led to the beach part of Prelude Beach. And once Laventon turned the corner his eyes bulged to the size of golf balls. There was a boy, around 10-18 years old, he was in a small crater practically unscathed, except for some scratches that he could see.
He walked over petting his Pokémon and thanking them for locating the boy. He then got a closer look of his injuries and his suspicions were true the boy was completely fine, maybe unconscious but fine.
He gently smacked the boy trying to wake him up, to no avail. Laventon then tried to use his voice.
"Wake Up!" He shouted, spooking but not scaring off his Pokémon. Said Pokémon we're watching the events take place as they heard a groan coming from the strangely dressed male.
"Wake up, please." Laventon said softer than before, gently smacking the exposed cheek of the boy once again.
The boy stirred and groaned as he tried to stand, only to fall back into the sand with a nearly silent thump.
The boy tried again this time he was assisted by Laventon and could finally stand on his two feet.
The boy looked at Laventon confused as to who he was and was trying to remember if he saw him or not. The boy visibly shook his head a few times before giving up and deciding to ask Laventon who he was.
"I'd like to ask that myself. But I should most likely introduce myself. My name is Laventon I'm a Pokémon professor." A flash of recognition was seen in the boys eyes. The boy, Laventon was going to have to ask for his name soon, got into a thinking pose again. And once again turning a blank on his name.
"Well my boy, what about you? What's your name."
"I'm Lucas." He answered, looking down after hearing a thrill from Laventon's Rolwet.
He knelt down and reached a hand out for the grass bird, and in a surprising turn of events for Laventon. Rowlet leans into the awaiting hand thrilling in a relaxed tone.
Lucas smiled and said. "I've never seen a Rowlet before, I've only heard about them from Rowen."
"Rowen?" Laventon blanked on the name.
"Don't you know him, he's pretty famous from where I'm from."
"And where exactly are you from?"
"From Sinnoh, the clothes kinda give it away."
"Sinnoh? But that's the name of the diety the Diamond and Pearl clan worship."
"Then where am I?" Lucas asks panic slowly consuming the boy as the conversation went on.
"We're in Hisui." The name was familiar, Lucas searched through his memories to find even a mention of it, only to see a memory of book he read once telling the story of Sinnoh's ancient past.
He was now hyperventilating, only to stop at the realization of something Laventon did not have the knowledge to. Lucas then took a few calming breaths and fully calmed down.
It was then at this moment Laventon's Pokémon decided to run away.
"No! My darling Pokémon! Please! Come back!" Laventon shouted as he chased after his fleeing Pokémon.
Lucas laughed at the sight reminding him of how Barry was when they were younger. He shook his head from the memory and decided to help out the Professor get them back.
As he ran after the Professor he noticed a glowing object on the ground and decided to go investigate what it is.
It was a phone, probably his phone but it's changed shape. He was then reminded of his Pokétch that was somehow still attached to his wrist.
A message appeared on the screen as he was cleaning the, now, sand filled smart watch.
"Good you have found it, I take it you are still worried about disappearing for a long period of time worrying you mother. Do not worry as I, once you have completed the mission, will send you back moments after you disappear. It will be as if you never left."
Lucas released a breathe he didn't know he was holding, thanking the Pokémon that sent them here.
At least this could let him focus on the mission Arceus gave him and seek out all Pokémon.
He continued until he found the Professor trying and failing to catch the Pokémon that escaped him.
"Dang it! Another miss." He heard the Professor say as he readied another Poké Ball.
"Uhm Professor?" Laventon jumped slightly at the voice, but calmed himself and turned around.
"Yes Lucas? What is it?"
"I can help with your escapees."
"Wonderful! You can use Poké Balls?"
"Yeah... I've had practice."
"Great." Laventon then hands him a Poké Ball.
It definitely looked different from the ones he's used to the, normally, metallic housing is replaced by what feels like an apricorn on the top half dome and wood on the bottom half dome. There was also an extra protrusion at the top of the Poké Ball, Lucas didn't really know what it did.
He threw the ball in his hand testing the weight. Once that was done he snuck up on one of the Professor's Pokémon, it being the Rowlet he pet earlier.
He then threw the ball, spinning as it went. Rowlet dodged, but was still hit, as the spinning caused the ball to curve and aim directly at the Pokémon.
The Poké Ball then opened, the familiar light bursting out of it as the Pokémon was sucked into it. It shook, bouncing high into the air with a rush of steam. It bounced three times before finally settling down on the ground, a small firework was then launched into the air, that Lucas assumed was this Poké Ball's indicator for a successful capture.
Laventon's eyes widened, his jaw now to the floor. That was incredible skill, like the boy had done it dozens of times. He had to get him into the Survey Corp, maybe a Pokémon and some housing would entice him.
"That was amazing Lucas, how do you use Poké Balls so effortlessly, my, some the most experienced people we have don't even possess half of the skill you currently display."
"Lots and lots of practice." That was the only reply Laventon was going to get.
Laventon then passed him another Poké Ball, this time Lucas went for Cyndaquil. The little fire type was trying to be smart and hide behind a rock, failing as the light of its flames caused an orange glow to appear on the ground. Lucas threw the ball at one of the sides of the rock, once again curving and directly hitting its intended target.
The same thing then happened with Cyndaquill's Poké Ball, a shake, a rush of steam that propels it up in the air and a firework that signifies a successful capture.
Lucas passed the now occupied Poké Ball over to Laventon. Lucas asks for an extra Poké Ball and Laventon hands him two empty Poké Balls
Oshawott was running around a small pond, running faster as Lucas approached. The small otter was trying to imitate its more evolved counterparts, trying to do maneuvers and preemptive dodges that weren't suited for thier height.
Lucas slowly approached with the two Poké Balls readied at his side. He chucked one at the otter curving as it flew in the air, Oshawott tried to dodge but the second Poké Ball flew straight at it, hitting the otter on the head.
The Poké Ball quickly did it's job and captured Oshawott. Lucas then grabs the, now occupied Poké Ball and hands it to the Professor.
Laventon then suddenly grabs Lucas by the shoulder and pulls him closer to him.
"Lucas my boy. Will you please help me with my Pokédex project, it will go by much faster with the skills you've currently displayed. Please, I beg of you!"
Lucas blinks, surprised at the offer, but asks what he can get in return for his help with the Pokédex.
"Uhm. Housing...and food... yes, housing and food."
Lucas raises an eyebrow, a clear sign that it's not really enough.
"Fine, I'll see what I can do about your salary."
"Thank you Professor."
"Follow me, the Survey Corp awaits."
"Survey Corp?"
"They observe, catch and sometimes battle Pokémon." Lucas nods in understanding.
Lucas then looked up at the sky, only to notice a noticeable crack in it. The crack being over Mount Coronet, above where Spear Pillar normally is.
'Maybe I could see what spear pillar actually looked like before it was destroyed. That would certainly make Rowan and Cynthia happy.'
A short walk later and Lucas and Laventon arrive at a gate, that was being guarded by 4, maybe 5, people.
"Who is this you brought Laventon?" Asks one of the guards.
"This is Lucas, he has helped me retrieve my runaways. And I would also like to enlist him into the Survey Corp." A gasp from all 4-5 guards.
'An outsider joining the ranks of the Galaxy Team? Is the Professor insane!' The one guarding the entrance thought to himself, his fellow guards sharing his sentiment.
"He will be a great asset, he successfully captured three Pokémon with skill that rival even the commander's." Laventon boasts Lucas's skills to the now shocked guards.
Once the both of them were let through, the towns people that notice him start asking questions that Lucas could barely make out.
"Is he with the Professor?"
"What's that strange garb he dons?"
"An outsider? Has Laventon gone mad?"
A few uncomfortable seconds later Lucas arrives at a bridge that connects the large building in front of him to the rest of the town? village? He wasn't quite sure.
The logo though is what surprised him the most, it's almost exactly like Team Galactic's insignia, except that the logo itself is wider than the modern counterpart. They even have similar names each featuring the Galaxy in the title.
"I need to do some paperwork, meet me at the Wallflower, it's just passed this bridge and to the left."
Another quick walk and Lucas arrives at the Wallflower an old looking male adult looks him over, eyes narrowing as they scanned him.
"Well now, aren't you awfully suspicious?" His eyes narrow even more.
"This canteen is for Galaxy Team members only, no civilian or outsider is allowed here." He says shooing Lucas away.
He decides to just wait until the Professor is done with whatever paperwork he has to do.
Lucas was about to walk off when a voice caught his attention.
"Who are you? I've never seen anyone dressed like you are?"
Lucas looks over at the direction of the voice finding a girl, who looks an awful lot like Dawn, walk up.
She then touches the fabric of your shirt, pushing boundaries that really shouldn't be.
"You'll be minced meat in those, they barely provide the protection you would need to survive an attack by a wild Pokémon."
'Hey! These are quite durable you know. It survived my Infernape's attacks many times over.' Lucas silently countered, not wanting to give any information about anything he knows from the modern world.
But then his Pokétch decides now is the perfect time to make its presence known, it beeps, scaring the girl, making her jump a few into the air.
"W-what is that, thing! Attached to your arm." She demanded an answer.
"A special device that can tell the time." You answer not even giving a name in fear of changing history as he knew it.
"Strange~ how does work?" Lucas just shrugs in response, he didn't really know how the Pokétch worked, that info is held by the company that makes it.
The Professor then rushes out of the double door of the Galaxy building, eyes landing on Lucas and Akari.
"I apologize for forgetting about the small detail with Beni's strict rules when it comes to catering." He said once he walked up to the two teens
Laventon then passes a clipboard over to Lucas and gives him a Calligraphy pen.
"Just write your name here." He points to a dotted line on the paper. "Then add your signature... here." He points to another dotted line. Lucas silently wondered what was this time periods stand on child labor.
Akari reads over the document as Lucas does what the Professor asks with a displeased look on her face.
"Professor you can't just do this without Captain Cyllene's permission."
A woman then walks up to Akari, who shouts her name in surprise.
Cyllene then gives Lucas a look over. "Hmm, I expected you to be older, say what is your age?"
"I'm fifteen, almost sixteen."
"Then you're in the range of employment, Akari here is 14 and enlisted a few months ago." Akari's face was now red with embarrassment.
"Though you will have to pass a trial before you're officially instated into the Survey Corp, The details of which I will give you by tomorrow morning."
Cyllene then walks into the Wallflower, her meal order being muffled by the walls of the building.
Laventon, Akari, and Lucas sit down at one of the outside tables, waiting for Beni to come by and take their orders.
Once food arrived the Professor started to explain to Akari why he wanted Lucas to be appointed into the Survey Corp.
"You should have seen it Akari, Lucas was incredible. He used Poké Balls with tactics I didn't even know were possible without the Pokémon being distracted or unaware of your presence."
"Are you sure you weren't just seeing things?"
"I am most definitely sure I saw it correctly." Laventon said with a huff. "Why don't you see for yourself when Lucas begins his trial tomorrow."
After a hearty dinner, Akari and Laventon lead Lucas into a vacant house that belongs to the Galaxy Team. He was grateful he didn't have to sleep outside in, what will be, Sinnoh's frigid cold nights.
The interior was warm, thank Arceus. The overall design being very old in Lucas's opinion, but guessed in this time it's considered modern.
A futon, something Lucas would normally see in a traditional hotel, was placed behind sliding doors he couldn't really remember the names of.
The Professor and Akari said their goodbyes and left Lucas to his before sleep activities.
The first thing he does is take out the, now transformed, phone out of his pocket. It beeps and a message pops on screen.
"It seems you have found yourself suitable housing and a source of income."
"I have update your Pokétch's Map to suite this time period, it should update as you explore. I also have added a quest tracker for any tasks the inhabitants of Jubilife Village might ask of you. It should streamline the process of completing them."
"Oh, and before I forget. You can message me anytime for advice and be a 'person' you can talk to if so desire."
Lucas opens the messages app on the phone and types out a message.
"Thanks... I guess, would have liked to just stay out of this whole mess, but it's a request from Arceus themselves. Who am I to disagree?"
Lucas then pressed the send button. Arceus read it and sent a reply.
"You should most likely get some rest now. The day will be long tomorrow."
Lucas sends a thumbs up in response and tucks himself in for the night.
Chapter 2 is done. This was definitely one of my longest Chapters ever, the longer ones being somewhere on my hard drive, though those ones are for something else entirely.
The changes I made mildly affect the story, but the majority of events play out the exact same way they did in the game.
