Divas Prison Ch59
"It can't have been." Paige said.
"It was." Summer responded.
"No way." Becky said.
"I'm telling you, it was her." Summer spoke with more force.
"Girls, Summers right, it really was her." Natalya said, with a hint of sadness. "I know it seems crazy, but it was. It was the doctor. Or I guess, the old doctor."
"Bayley? But how? She has been the best person I've ever met, she's always done everything to help me. Now she's in here with us? What the hell could she have possibly done?" Becky said, a mixture of shock and sadness in her tone.
Paige held her as best she could. "I know baby, she let me sit with you for a minute when you were unconscious and I was on C block, I'll always owe her one for that." Paige specifically avoided mentioning the specific incident, but she kept Becky in her arms in case. Summer was also keeping quiet, but more because she remembered her last encounter with the former doctor.
"The prison doctor now an inmate like us." Charlotte mused. "What do you think she did?"
"Who knows?" Natalya answered. "Let her tell people in her own time, if she wants to. I'm more shocked they've sent her here to serve her time. It's not the only prison in Florida. Why send her where people know who she is? I think she's pissed someone important off, not to mention where she is now."
What, as in high security? I just don't see her being capable of any of the things any of us got sent here for, regardless of the circumstances."
"She could have just made a mistake, like you did, like I did. Remember most of us regret our actions, but that doesn't get us out of her any quicker." Charlotte said, to nodding heads all around.
"You're right Charlotte, but that isn't what I meant. This is high security, it is the place she worked in, but I was being more specific. You saw what cell she's been put it right?"
"Actually no, once she got over there, I stopped looking." Paige said.
"You in particular better be aware, you might have to help out, she's in 60, right at the end."
Paige's eyes went wide. "You're sure?"
Natalya nodded again. "Yep. She's in with..."
"Ronda." Paige finished her sentence. "She's not supposed to have a cellmate, she told me as much herself."
"Well, she's been going to that counsellor." Becky joined the conversation again. "The one she's crushing on. Maybe he's having that much of an effect on her that they've decided they don't want to waste an empty bunk. There aren't many of them here right now."
"I don't think so. She's not exactly a people person still. She wants to be. But they wouldn't risk actually locking someone in the cell with her." Paige said.
"Then one of them is being punished." Natalya concludes, not that anyone was going to argue. "Either they want Ronda to react and get herself in trouble, maybe sent back to segregation, where she was before, or they want Ronda to react, and make Bayley her punching bag. Either way, this is designed to try and use Ronda's attitude against one or both of them."
"So what can we do?" Summer asked.
"Not a huge amount. If she's going to kick off, then she's going to. Maybe Paige and Becky can talk to her first. Before she finds out for herself. Might lessen the blow. We are lucky she isn't here now. Where is she?" Natalya asked.
"With Dan the counsellor man. That should help. She's been in her best moods when she comes back from him."
"Because of this crush? Has she tried to get in his pants yet?" Charlotte, still hurting herself, was overly blunt with her words.
"Right, Well none of you are meant to know this, so maybe tone it down when she's around." Paige scolded before continuing. "And no she hasn't. He does something to her and she hasn't had the courage. Funny really, she'll punch anyone in the face who angers her, but when his name comes up, she's a kitten."
"Well you better be right, because she's back." Natalya said, and was correct as Ronda had just reentered the block, with extra escorts as always. She was more animated that usual and anyone looking could tell. She was Impatient with them as they removed her restraints and stormed away from them with a grunt as soon as she could. She was heading straight towards her cell.
"Oh my god, Paige, stop her." Natalya said.
Paige looked at her like she was crazy. "Stop her? Really? When she's in that mood?"
"Yes, you're the only one who might not get hurt if you get in her way. You've got to try, otherwise...oh no." Natalya stopped in her tracks and Paige looked to see Ronda nearing the cell, not giving them the chance to stop her as they'd spent too long talking about it.
"What do we do?" Paige asked.
"Nothing honey. Just have to hope it goes better than we think." Becky said, sitting Paige down as Ronda disappeared into her cell.
Bayley was hunched in the corner of her bunk when Ronda stormed in. She didn't spot her at first, and when she smashed her hands on the wall and let out a exasperated, but hostile groan, Bayley found herself looking for a way to crawl into the wall, she was genuinely terrified, knowing what Ronda could do.
It was only a matter of seconds till Ronda turned round and looked eyes on what she thought was an intruder in her personal space.
"Who the hell are you?! What are you doing in here?! How dare you be in here, get out! Now! Right now!" Ronda screamed as she grabbed Bayley, both hands with a handful each of her shirt. Bayley found she was pulled to her feet so fast she was surprised the orange fabric hadn't ripped away in her new cell mates hands. But she was powerless in the moment as Ronda pulled her to the doorway of the cell and out into the communal area.
"Stay out of here!" Ronda shouted with aggression as she shoved Bayley with as much force as she had, which was a lot and Bayley flew backwards, unable to stop as until she collided with someone, the two of them spinning round and landing one on top of another.
Carmella has been minding her own business for once, not intentionally winding up the guards or picking their pockets the way she usually did to amuse herself. It made her unpopular with both the guards and the prisoners as they would often take out their frustration on any of the women they wanted, or on all of them at once, and they knew who was likely to blame. Right now however, she found she was looking at a new face, she'd never seen Bayley during her tenure as doctor, so this was simply a new face, but it was very close to her own and she was lost for words.
"Um...I'm sorry." Bayley tried to apologise, not wanting to have anyone else mad at her.
"It's cool, I'm fine." Carmella answered with her usual laid back manner.
"I'm really sorry though." Bayley repeated
"I'm really fine. I'm also Carmella." The blonde said in an attempt to end Bayley's apologies.
"You're what? Oh, right, I mean, I'm Bayley." Bayley went red with the embarrassment of not realising that was the name of the woman who broke her fall.
"Well I'm sure see you around, but Bayley?"
"Yes?"
"Could you get off of me now?"
Bayley blushes even more when she realised the position they were in and she had made no attempt to get out of. She quickly picked herself up off the floor. Carmella got up and gave a wink to Bayley as she swaggered off like nothing had happened.
As Bayley picked herself up, she could feel all the eyes in her, but she wouldn't look up to meet any of them. She knew there was only one place where she could avoid their stares, but she was taking a huge risk with herself. Seeing it as a lesser of two evils she slowly approached her cell doorway and slowly looked inside.
Ronda had her back to her, leaning with her hands against the wall, looking at the floor. Bayley could tell she was in some distress, and tried to make her tone as friendly as she could, for both their sakes.
"Ronda, are you ok?" She asked, hoping for anything better than the response she got before. Ronda spun round and, taking steps towards Bayley, grabbed her by the collar with both hands and pushed her against the wall.
"Are you crazy? I told you to get out of here!" Ronda yelled as Bayley's eyes went wide in fear, the scowl on Ronda's face making her certain that she was in real danger. She knew of Ronda's reputation, or at least what she had heard, and wished she'd taken her chances with the women outside the cell. Suddenly she felt an even more severs loss of control as Ronda picked her off the floor, holding Bayley in the air against the wall.
Paige arrived in the doorway at this moment, Becky and Nattie behind her. "Ronda, don't do this." Paige said, arms outstretched in front of her. "It's not you, not really. She doesn't deserve this."
"Doesn't deserve it?" Ronda said, not taking her eyes off Bayley. "You don't know that. She's here isn't she? She knows what we go through, yet she's still here. And she dares come into my space?"
"Ronda, you've got to calm down ok." Paige said. "She didn't wander in off the street. She got sent in, I guess she's your cellmate, so you might want to not be at her throat. Nobody wins that."
Ronda let go of Bayley, who backed off as much as she could when there were five of them in the small space. "Why do you care anyway?"
"Because she's one of us now, and I owe her." This made both Ronda and Bayley look at Paige confused as she continued. "When I got transferred, she let me see Becky when nobody else would have. Hell, if not for her I might have lost Becky entirely." Natalya put her arm around Becky who was looking sad and embarrassed, even though Paige didn't mention the specifics.
"I don't want her here. They have kept me on my own for a good reason!" Ronda pounded on the top bunk in frustration, making Bayley flinch in fear.
"Yeah, but what about your counselling sessions? This shows it's working, right? Or they wouldn't put either of you in this position. Dan must be impressed, and that will help with other things won't it?" Paige's hope that mentioning the one person that usually brings a smile to a woman most others saw as a psychotic killer had the opposite effect as Ronda tore the sheets off her bunk and threw them with a scream. Natalya looked for guards but saw that they had no intention of intervening.
"Whoa now girl. Ronda, what's that about?" Even Paige moved back with the others at that outburst.
"Why do you have to bring him up?" Ronda said, exasperated.
"You know why. It's what we've always talked about. Did something happen?" Paige asked.
"He missed our last two sessions. They said he's on vacation, but I bet he's not. He just stopped coming to see me. I shouldn't have let my guard down with him."
"Wait, Dan the Prison counsellor?" Bayley spoke up for the first time in a while.
"Yeah, did you work with him?" Paige asked, noticing Ronda scowling again from hearing that Bayley knew him.
"Yeah, and it's August, so he's definitely on vacation."
"How do you know?" Ronda said with no respect, still not interested in her new cellmate.
"He goes scuba diving in the Keys every August."
"Who with?" Ronda both didn't believe what she was being told, and was wary of being told more, in case she didn't like the answer.
"I don't know, some club I think, they go diving all the time, but this is their big trip. It's his main hobby, he showed me pictures of his trips all the time."
"So you were interested in him were you?" Paige saw that reaction coming and stepped into the middle before Ronda could try and go towards Bayley, which she would have done if she could.
"What? No!" We were just colleagues both in the medical team so we talked a lot. But nothing ever happened, I'm, well, he isn't my type ok."
Ronda took a breath. "You just better not by lying to me. If we are going to have to share a cell, you better not treat me like I'm scum."
"I won't, I promise. I just want us to be able to get along." Bayley was still terrified but relieved things had gotten to this point.
"And we don't have to until later, so give me some space ok. That goes for all of you." Ronda said, straightening her bed, expecting them all to do what she said. Luckily none of them were interested in continuing the conversation so they left, Paige pulling Bayley out behind her.
"Thanks." Bayley said when they were far enough away. "Was she really going to hurt me?"
"Probably." Natalya scoffed.
"Nattie, How is that helping?" Paige said. "Ronda is a hot head, and she's scary as hell when she looks at you like that, but she's ok. Give it time."
"Time. Good choice of word." Bayley said in a more somber tone.
"How long you got?" Becky asked, joining the conversation for the first time.
"Eight years." Bayley said, sniffing.
"Careful, the first lesson I got taught up in here was not to cry, right baby?" Paige looked at Becky with a smile giving her a quick kiss.
"Good point, and I'm glad you two are ok, I remember you got the hell beat out of you just to see her, didn't you."
"Yeah, but she's worth it." Paige said, realising Becky wasn't taking that well. "It's ok Bex, I'd do it again. And it wasn't the first day I'd been attacked by my cellmate over there, the girl was nuts, literally."
"I remember. And now I'm the one who might get their ass kicked by mine." Bayley said. "Any advice?"
"Like I said, she's not that bad once you know her, so get to know her. Sure she's mad now, but she'll calm down by lockup. Come on, join us till then." Paige said and the four of them took a table.
"So eight years here? Why? You are the last person I expected to walk through these doors, well, with cuffs on anyway, I've seen you walk in here loads." Becky saw her attempt at humour met with silence. "Yeah, sorry. This must be weirder for you than it was for any of us."
"Yeah. And I didn't do it."
"Yeah, neither did I." Natalya said in a rough tone. "But spouting that off isn't going to get you anywhere. Save it for your family, and your lawyer. We can't help you, and they certainly don't care. All you'll do is annoy people. We are here until they let us go. At least some of us have a time frame."
"Yeah, that's a good bit of advice actually. Ronda's doing three life sentences without parole. Talking to her about being innocent or getting out is a bad idea, right now anyway." Paige said.
"I think talking to her at all is a bad idea." Bayley shrugged. "But I don't have much choice. I need to be able to get on with her. Maybe I should go back in."
"No." Came the unanimous response from the other women.
"It's a bad idea. Not till you have to. Come on, join us over here, see how we pass the time. Hope you know some card games." Becky took her arm from around Paige and put it on Bayley's shoulder. "We aren't all bad, in fact, you kinda lucked out getting us for friends."
The other laughed and Bayley tried to smile to show her appreciation. But all she could think about was how she was going to get through the night with a cellmate who seemed to hate her.
A/N: So everything I planned for one chapter has already taken two, and I'm not done yet, so it's going to be three. I know this isn't overly action packed, but that's because I just kept writing.
Next time Bayley will have to face Ronda, just the two of them, and their cell will be locked this time. Will they be able to get through the night?
Thank you to everyone for your support with this. I still get a huge kick out of writing it. Your follows, favourites and reviews mean so much.
Some have even voiced support for my other project on here, for you guys, it's coming, but it's a longer process.
I know I don't update as often as I want to, but I really appreciate you sticking with me. Till next time.
