Divas Prison Ch62

The moaning and grumbling from the inmates of A block were clear to everyone as they were instructed to assemble in front of Warden Flair, who had the head of the block, Rollins at his side. The guards didn't care if they weren't happy with the order, as long as it was followed. The moaning turned to more quiet whispering among the women as they realised that with the two of them was a new guard, clear as she was in uniform like the rest.

"Have we ever had a female guard that wasn't a blonde?" Paige whispered to those around her.

"Nope, guess he's got a type." Emma answered, prompting a quiet giggle amongst them, except for one, which was quickly spotted.

"Ooh, sorry Char, sometimes I forget." Summer was the first to apologise, but the rest were cut off.

"It's ok, my mom is blonde too." Charlotte said with good humour. "But if I ever find out he cheated on her, I'll cut his balls off myself."

"I think there'd be quite the line if we could do that." Paige thought out loud, again bringing laughter, from everyone this time.

"Quiet!" Rollins voice boomed over the room, silencing everyone but Bayley and Carmella, who simply weren't paying attention, not interested in what they were summoned for.

"Martinez! Van Dale! Shut up before we do it for you!" Rollins got closer to them, but stopped short, being met with looks of doubt from both women. Rolling was going red, but focused on the fact they stopped talking and returned to the Warden's side.

"Listen up ladies." Warden Flair said, also loudly. "It is my job to inform you that Guard Perry will not be returning to her post. She..." Flair has to stop talking as a cheer went up from all of the prisoners. He let them have a few seconds. "Enough!" He continued. "It became clear that her credentials were not what the DOC were led to believe they were, and she is not fit to serve in my prison."

"I've been saying that since I met her!" Paige shouted out, regretting her outburst right away as Guard Owens walked straight up to her.

"Say one more word. I dare you." He said through gritted teeth. Paige would have loved to, but common sense prevailed and she looked away, causing Owens to walk away. All of the officers had been told the truth about Lana's true identity, but it was unanimously agreed not to share that information with any prisoner to avoid losing face.

"Since she is not worth wasting any more words on, it is time to introduce her replacement, the new female designate officer for this block." Flair too, wanted to move on quickly, and he gestured to the woman at his side. "This is Officer Lacey Evans. As with all the others, she will be addressed with respect. Guard Evans, Ms Evans, or simply Ma'am. I don't know why I should have to remind you of this, but it won't happen again. Miss Evans has a flawless record, a former US Marine, and member of the Military Police. She has had to disarm, restrain and discipline members of the toughest fighting force in the world, so what chance do any of you have? I trust nobody will be stupid enough to test her. Miss Evans, welcome and good luck."

Flair and Evans shook hands and the Warden took his leave, escorted to the door by Owens. The newest guard surveyed the women, who had started talking to each other again.

"Silence!" She bellowed, receiving exactly what she asked for. She walked up and down, absorbing the environment and scanning those she was now in control of.

"Oh Loooorrrddd". She said when she stopped, a strong Southern accent showing through. "Lord help me. I knew when I was recruited for a high security prison that I wouldn't be dealing with high society like I do at home, but you are the biggest bunch of nasties I've ever laid eyes on. You're horrible people, and we've done far more horrible things, or you wouldn't be here. I hope nobody has any plan to do anything but what we tell you, because I will not tolerate any lack of discipline. If any of you have any class, although that may be wishful thinking, then who knows, maybe we will get on, and when you have served your debt to society, you may be enough of a lady to actually make something of yourselves. That choice, to be a lady or stay a nasty piece of work, is yours."

"Right, thank you." Rollins said. "That is all. Those of you due to work assignments , hurry up, because you've got time to make up. Otherwise..."

"Excuse me, Mr Rollins, do you mean that not all these women work?" Lacey interrupted, surprise in her tone.

"No, some have classes, some have therapy and such." Rollins answered.

"And the others?" Lacey waited for an answer that didn't come, so she was able to figure out the truth easily.

"Really. Well I think we should talk about this. Those who aren't choosing to help themselves should be working for the benefit of the prison. Whether they want to or not." Lacey said, very firmly.

Rollins couldn't help but smirk. "You could be right there. Let's talk about this right now over at control." He looked back at the women before he left. "You are dismissed." He said, heading over to control with Evans.

"Great, another hard ass." Becky moaned as she dumped herself down onto a stool.

"You expected someone cute and cuddly? They want these robots who only have bad intentions towards us." Natalya said as she sat down.

"Yeah, he is still doing damage control after the breakout. Now they recaptured Sasha Banks, he's been going over all options for security. I suggested to one of his secretaries that they could put a few more amenities for us to make life less monotonous, but she said she didn't want to be fired, so I doubt it made his desk."

"Uh Becky, you Ok?" Natalya noticed that the Irish girl had gone wide eyed and had a grin on her face. She didn't get a response so she continued. "What did you suggest?"

"A pool table, or ping pong, and a tv. Nothing too much, but just some other options than books, card games and stuff. I think I've played more card games these couple of years I've been locked up than the 25 odd years beforehand."

"Damn, I like that. Don't lose hope. We need to find a way to make at least one of those happen." Natalya said, clearly thinking.

"I thought so, even if we don't control the tv, it'll help some of these nut jobs calm down and stop picking fights with each other.

"Yeah, especially if they really have caught Banks. I never thought it would happen."

"They have. He was practically giddy that dark cloud was off him. He barely acknowledges me, chained to my desk, but the other office staff got Krispy Kreme and good coffee. Wasn't fun for me, he was unbearable." Charlotte's annoyance was stopped by Becky bursting into laughter. "How is that funny?"

Becky needed time to stop herself. "It's not, I'm sorry. He's an ass for leaving you out, but I'd love your job. Easy work, good money for a prison job. And I'm fine with good coffee smells. It's usual in our cell."

The others knew about Paige's coffee obsession, but it wasn't what either of them were thinking. "But why is that funny to you?" Charlotte asked, a little annoyed."

"It isn't funny Charlotte, with your relationship with him, it must feel harsh, and I do care, but if Banks has really been caught, then I've finally won one."

"Won what?" Confusion reigned over the table.

"A bet, I finally won one. Where's Paige?" Becky turned round at speed, looking for her girlfriend.

"She's there with Summer, Emma and Ronda. Huh." Natalya said, surprised to see the fourth with them.

"Yeah, they get on really well. But I'm going to rub this in Paige's face, so if she comes for me, you better stop her."

"Yeah, no chance." Charlotte said, but it didn't stop Becky going over behind Paige, covering her eyes from behind.

"Guess who?"

"You two are sickening." Emma said, rolling her eyes.

"Well that makes it easier to guess. Hi babe." Paige looked up and sneaked a kiss.

"Hey, so I just found out something." Becky said, being intentionally cryptic.

"Go on." was the response.

"I beat you, I finally beat you. I win, I win, I freaking win!" Becky said at speed, grabbing Paige by her shirt.

"You won what?"

"Our bet."

"No you didn't, the score was 11 to 10, and I didn't cheat."

"Not that bet, and yes you did."

"Then which?"

"The escapees. Charlotte told me they arrested Sasha. She's the last one caught, so I win. No excuses here."

"I didn't make an excuse." Paige feigned being offended.

"You wouldn't pay up because she hadn't been caught. That's an excuse. You even tried to claim you won because the twins were last back and Sasha had probably gotten away for good." Becky spotted Charlottes face at the mention of the Bellas. "Sorry."

"All good, just don't mention that bitch." Charlotte replied.

Becky turned her focus back onto Paige. "Well this time I've got you beaten. No getting out of it. Nattie?" Becky looked to Natalya for a ruling.

"No doubt. She's coming back, Becky wins." Natalya said with a shrug.

Paige looked at the floor for a second. "Ok babe. You were due. I'll concede this one. I guess I've got a bit of a day ahead of me?"

Becky couldn't have a bigger smile. "One day soon, I'll collect, and on that day, you will be all mine. Well, you are anyway, but not like you'll be that day."

"Damn right I am. I'm not sure if I'll love or hate being your slave, but you've never not paid a debt, and nor will I." Paige lent up and kissed Becky again, but hadn't checked, so was unaware of who was approaching.

"You. Stand up. What do you think you're doing?" Lacey Evans said in a very deadpan manner. Rollins was standing close to monitor his new employee, but did not intervene.

"I, erm, I'm just showing emotion Miss." Paige said, complying with the order.

"Well that particular showing is against the rules. Let it be the last time. Otherwise you might be the next person out of here."

Becky stepped in front of Paige at that. "Leave her alone. It was my fault. You want to put someone in The Lock, make it me."

"I'm not a tyrant, you don't go to solitary for that, but defy orders and that will be a different story. And I'm not here to send people over there, but out the gates instead."

"What are you talking about?" Becky asked, her stomach doing somersaults.

"Which one of you is inmate Rae?"

"I am, nice not to be recognised for a change." Summer said stepping to the front of the group."

"Yes, good. You must have one hell of a team of lawyers. Convicted for escape in the last 18 months, and they've managed to secure you a transfer out of here. Ridiculous if u ask me, but it's not my call."

"Transfer? To where?" Summer was shocked."

"You don't know? Do you not talk to your lawyers?" Lacey sounded unconvinced.

"Not since I was in court for the escape. They were on retainer, I asked them to try and get me into a minimum security prison when I got sent here in the first place, but nothing came of it."

"Well now it has. You ship out to Naples tomorrow. Minimum security work camp. Bunk in rooms of 20, who you go will work with every day for the rest of your sentence. Don't expect many days off."

"But it's minimum security. That's good right?" Summer asked.

"Don't get any ideas though inmate." Lacey snapped back. "You put a foot wrong, you'll be sent straight back here or worse. You want to risk a second escape conviction? You try it, since it worked so well for you last time. Or you do your work there, follow the lower restrictions, and serve your time. I've only spoken to you once and I never want to see you again, now out of my sight. Dismissed."

Summer did as she was told, taking a seat at a far table, sitting in silence as she tried to get her head around her news.

"Right, now, inmate Dashwood." Evans called out, and Emma was there in a flash, with a definite look on her face that suggested she was ready for it.

"Your walking papers." Evans passed a bundle of papers a few at a time to Emma, who had a big smile. "You will be released in seven days. Fill in what's required on the first sheets and hand them back. Don't make any mistakes. The next papers detail how you will have two sessions with the prison counsellor to help you prepare for the adjustment back into society, and one to help you begin the process of finding work. You may request more if you wish, but they are not guaranteed. I'm told that releases take place after breakfast in this facility, so make sure you have said goodbyes and packed up anything you are taking before then as you will be restrained to be taken to processing with little or no notice. Do you have any questions?"

"No Miss." Emma was more than eager to get away.

"Then dismissed." She and Rollins returned to their control station. Emma turned round straight into a hug from Natalya.

"You sneaky bitch." She said as she released the hug. "You haven't been going to extra work in the kitchen at all, have you?"

"Sorry Nattie." Emma said as the others gathered round her. "It was the only thing I thought you'd believe, and I didn't want anyone to know as it wasn't a sure thing."

"So how are you getting released just like that, I thought you had a couple of years to go?" Paige asked.

"I did. When they gave me the extra time for busting that guards nose with a tray, the lawyers told me I had no case without Sasha testifying the riot was part of her escape plan. Well, apparently when they caught her, she has been very cooperative."

"Sasha? Cooperative? Has to be something in it for her." Becky scoffed, with plenty of agreement from others.

"Well either way, my lawyer came to tell me they were going to court to appeal my conviction and sentence for the assault."

"And it worked." Paige deduced.

"Not exactly. I still smashed his face in, so the conviction stands. But they reduced my sentence for it to basically time served. I found out last week. They then moved for my immediate release, and the rest you know."

Paige was next to hug Emma. "I'm made up for you girl. Jealous, but made up."

"They better find someone good to replace you in the kitchen. I meant it when I said you made this slop edible." Becky was next for a hug, with Charlotte following.

They all then went to see Summer.

"Your lawyers were still working for you?" Was Charlotte's first question.

"The amount of money I paid them, they better have." Summer replied. "What do you think they make you do at a work camp?"

"No idea. Might have a farm or something. Or trash pickup on highways, I saw prisoners doing that before." Charlotte said.

"I heard they put inmates on painting detail, or trade stuff. Teach maintenance skills then get you to do the work."

"My uncle Bruce went to a place with a motor pool. He fixed car for his whole time inside." Nattie suggested.

"I hope I'm not doing that, I don't have much mechanical knowledge." Summer said with a smile. "But this is the best result for me. I'm not getting out, but it must be easier than here."

"Great, thanks for the reminder. Remember the rest of us aren't getting so lucky, not till they day we get out, and some won't even get that."

"Sorry." Summer realised she had messed up. "I don't want bad things between us. You've all been good to me since I came over, and I won't forget it. I'm grateful, really."

"Ok, just really watch this whole putting your foot in your mouth thing. It's not going to help you." Natalya said, making all of them laugh.

"I'll miss you guys." Summer said. She said the same thing as her parting words when they called her over the next day. She handed her possessions over to a guard and was restrained to be escorted to her transport. Then she was out of sight, and on her way to her new prison.

Emma had some very good sessions with the counsellor, and was delighted to hear he had set up interviews for her with three restaurants for work in their kitchens. They weren't five star places, and she'd be the lowest rung on the ladder, but the tourist industry in central Florida causing there to be plenty of restaurants had given her the chance to earn money in the area she'd come to love. And she planned to prove herself and work her way up. She still goes to have her own place one day, but she knew to take it one step at a time. Mostly because that's what Natalya has told her once every hour when they were locked in their cell for the week before she was released. When that moment came, her friends all said it over breakfast, and then Natalya walked to the gate with her, sharing a last hug before Emma was handcuffed and walked out of the gate, it quickly being closed behind her. Natalya came back to the rest looking unsurprisingly down.

"You ok?" Paige asked.

"Yeah, just a bit bummed. They didn't have to put her in cuffs. She getting out today, why would she give them trouble?"

"Nattie, you know the rules as well as anyone. Others see her being escorted like that and they'll start something. It's one last time. She'll be home tonight, that's what's important." Charlotte said, to nods all round.

"You're right, I'll miss her though." Nattie said.

"I know, but she could visit or something right?" Paige said.

"I told her not to apply. It's really hard to get approved for visitation to a prison you've served time. Even for family, we've had to jump through hoops. It's why we mostly speak by phone. She doesn't need that distraction. We'll stay in touch though no doubt."

"You'll apply though babe. It's at least 18 months between our release dates, if I get parole first time." Becky said to Paige.

"You will. You have to." Paige said. This time they checked before kissing.

"It'll be weird having the cell to yourself, it has been for me and it's only been a few days." Charlotte told Nattie, doing her best to ignore the loved up couple.

"I know it will. I've been in with Emma for years, but no point getting used to it, they'll stick some new girl in with each of us sooner or later. Just have to hope it's someone tolerable."

"And compatible. Like you and I would never work." Charlotte said. And it was true, the four of them laughing as they were forced to move on.

A.N.: Thanks for reading.

So Emma has gotten her deserved release, and Summer, although she'd have preferred the same, will be in better conditions till she gets out. It felt like time to move them on. Of course this does open up a couple of places on the cell block. The previous and future chapters likely make the identity of some future characters obvious, but if you have any others you'd like to see on the block, let me know.

Next time, it's Election Day and Jericho's plan begins with the raid on what Sasha has claimed is Stephanie's drug lab. What will he find, and will it give him what he needs to finally be able to take her down?
