Divas Prison Ch66

Paul joined his partner outside the McMahon campaign headquarters. It was dark. A very late hour, or an early one depending how you looked at it. The crowds were all still there though, waving signs and celebrating the very positive polls that had a the win all but assured with the official announcement expected any second. The car ride had been in near silence, and Jericho had walked all the way around it once already. After standing alongside him for a moment, it became obvious that Jericho was not breathing normally.

"Chris, you ok?" He asked.

"Yeah." Was the only reply for a moment, as he took more breaths. "Just nervous excitement. Been waiting for this for so long, it doesn't seem real to be actually happening."

Paul's laugh was loud enough to make several people near turn their heads. "You're like a kid on line for a rollercoaster. Or a candy store."

"Yep, but I finally get my candy. More people here than I expected."

Paul nodded. "Yeah, but we are moving them all around this side of the building, crowd control with the officers this side, but all exits are covered. She's not going anywhere."

"Oh yes she is." Jericho said, giving a knowing smile, that was returned. He got on his radio. "All teams report in. Everyone ready?" He listened as everyone confirmed before he spoke again. "Good. Now, complete readiness and vigilance from everyone. Be prepared to intercept, but do not open fire unless there is a direct threat to life. I want her taken alive." He stopped when the crowd roared loudly, making him look around.

"They just announced that he has been declared the winner." He was told by one of the officers.

"Not really surprising. His biggest challenger was murdered. Time to get justice for her and everyone else. This is going to be the shortest victory party ever. Let's go." Jericho signalled to four officers to his side and the six off them headed to the door.

"Sorry, can't let anyone else in." The security team at the door held up their hands to stop them but got two FBI badges in their faces, which was enough to change their tune.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you so much for being here tonight. This has been a day that will go down in history as one of the greatest victories in the history of this wonderful State of Florida. I am so proud to be part of this administration that you have all shown so much faith in and I look forward to building on what we have accomplished already and keeping the promises we have made you all. But you didn't come hear to hear from me did you?!" Stephanie had the crowd worked up into a frenzy, the cheering almost overwhelming the speakers all around the large room. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, the returning Governor of the great State of Florida, my father, Vincent Kennedy McMahon!"

Music blared over the loudspeakers as the governor took the stage, waving to the crowd for a couple of minutes before he went to the podium to begin speaking.

"My friends and fellow Floridians. I am of course honoured and privileged to be able to continue my service to you all. But before I go any further, I must pay tribute to my opponent, Miss Dixie Carter, whose horrific murder has cast a shadow over this whole election process. The only positive is that her killer paid for her crime with her own life. But saying that, I must look to the future, and creating the best future for every resident of our State is always the biggest priority." As he spoke the Governor noticed Jericho coming up onto the stage with Wight and two uniformed officers. "Uh, excuse me, I'm trying to speak to our people here, would you leave the stage now please."

"I'm sorry Governor, but this can't wait." Jericho stayed away from the microphone. "If you want to excuse yourself, please do, but I have a job to do, and I have to do it now."

In the darkness to the side of the stage, Stephanie stood where Jericho couldn't see. She couldn't hear this conversation, but she was a picture of rage, lucky that Kane was standing nearby, as her number two was stopping her from marching onto the stage to confront the Agent.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please stay, enjoy the party, an urgent State matter has come up that requires my attention so I will be stepping to the back of the stage for a moment." He switched off the microphone and moved away from the podium. The well wishers turned their attention to their drinks, but the media stayed close, trying to see and hear what was going on.

"Right, what is so urgent that you have to interrupt my victory speech?" The Governor said in a very vicious tone.

Jericho produced his identification. "I'm sorry sir, my name is Chris Jericho, I'm an Agent with the FBI, this is my partner, Agent Paul Wight. We are working on an operation with your state police, and we have a warrant to place your Chief of Staff under arrest."

"This is absurd. You realise this is my daughter you are talking about. And that she has sued the FBI for wrongful arrest in the past?"

"Yes sir, I do. That's why I obtained a warrant."

"You're wrong, Agent Jericho. Wrong and out of order. I will have your badge for this intrusion and insult to my family." Governor McMahon looked to the side of the stage. "Stephanie! Come out here and tell these, these people, that they are mistaken." The contempt he spoke about them in wasn't hard to spot.

Stephanie appeared from the darkness with Kane trailing her. Jericho saw the anger on her face. If looks could kill, Jericho would have been dead instantly.

"What the hell is he doing here?" She hissed quietly. "He's the Fed who has been harassing me for years."

"He says he has a warrant for your arrest." Vince told her.

"For what? You even think about trying to take me anywhere and I'll sue you so badly your grandchildren will be paying mine." Stephanie was staring at Jericho as she spoke. He almost felt intimidated but wasn't going to let it change things.

"I'm doing my job, helping to execute a state warrant." Jericho produced the document and handed it to the Governor. "Sir, your daughter is going to be charged with crimes going back years. Crimes that are numerous and vast. From multiple counts of fraud, corruption, and bribery, to running a drug trafficking operation the DEA has been investigating today, to murder charges. It's all in the documents."

"Daddy, he's lying. He's had it out for me since he thought I killed his partner years ago. I'm not a criminal, and I'm certainly not a killer." Stephanie turned on the charm with her father, which like always, was working perfectly.

"Agent, I will give this document to our family attorneys, and you have my word that we will make contact in the coming days to discuss this matter in more detail, but this is not the time or the place." He said to Jericho, who was now getting frustrated at how easily she had manipulated him, although it did back up a lot of his theories.

"I'm sorry Mr Governor, but that's not possible. I am going to have to take her into custody right now. These charges are too serious and I can't take the risk of her absconding." Jericho did his best to keep his professionalism when dealing with the re-elected official. "It's in everyone's best interest. One of the charges she is facing is conspiracy to murder Dixie Carter, the woman you just paid tribute to. I can show you testimony that she paid the woman who killed her to do the job, as well as very compelling evidence on several of the other charges. I don't want to do this in front of the public, or the media."

"Lies. The woman who murdered her was killed in jail. How could she have spoken to you." Stephanie looked almost cocky, which made Jericho happy as he knew what had happened.

"I'm afraid that information was incorrect, Miss Greenwald." Jericho said, getting an immediate reaction from Stephanie, but not an obvious one to anyone else. "Sasha Banks is alive and well, but still in custody. She told us how you were involved in her escape and paid for her to kill Miss Carter. I can play the recording right now, i have a copy on my phone."

"That could be fake, part of your vendetta." Stephanie tried again.

"It's not, and with this much press here, would it matter?" Jericho stated bluntly.

Vince McMahon immediately looked at the press pool at the front of the stage. Some were making notes, some were looking straight at him. He didn't know how much they had heard. He went back to the document, and quickly looked for proof of what he was told. When he found it, he froze for a second, with no idea what to do. Eventually he spoke again. "I'm sorry Stephanie, but I think you are going to have to go with them for now."

"What? Dad, you can't be serious." Stephanie said, now loud enough for people to hear.

"Look honey, don't worry, I'll have the lawyers meet you at the police department. They'll get this all sorted out, and you'll be home by breakfast."

"Dad, no. I won't go with them."

"We need to handle this right." Vince said, standing aside.

"Put your hands behind your back." Jericho said to Stephanie. taking his former partner's handcuffs out.

"Whoa, hold on, is that necessary." The Governor got back in between them. Can't we do this backstage?" The reporters has spotted what was happening and questions were now being shouted out, but ignored.

"Standard procedure. Don't try anything Stephanie." Jericho said, moving towards her. His attention was so fixed on his target that he didn't notice Kane approach them with aggression.

"You son of a bitch, get your hands off her." He grabbed Jericho by the neck and pulled him away. His attention too was too much on one person and it cost him. Paul Wight was in near perfect position and knocked Kane silly with a thunderous right hand that knocked him to the floor, nearly out cold. The officers were quickly onto Kane and handcuffed him with no resistance.

"You're under arrest asshole." Wight said to Kane, not caring if his words sunk in. "Assault on an officer is just a drop in the bucket for you. Take him away." He directed the order to some other officers who came on stage when the commotion started and they tried to pick the big man up off the floor by his cuffed hands. Stephanie had seen it all unfold and was watching her most loyal ally and biggest gun being taken to jail. She now realised just how much danger she was in and that her father was willing to send her to the same place. She was also aware that if she went into a cell, she almost certainly would not come out. When she saw the gun sticking up off the belt of one of the cops, she reacted instinctively and grabbed it. In a flash she went behind her father, put an arm around his neck and the gun to his head.

Immediately every police officer in the place had pulled their guns and had them pointed at her. Every camera was also pointed at them.

"Put your guns down, now!" Stephanie shouted.

"Stephanie what are you doing?" Her father said, slightly strained by the arm around his throat.

"You're not going to risk hurting him, you know it and I know it!" Stephanie ignored the question.

"Don't be stupid Stephanie, it's over. Let him go and put the gun down, you're only making this worse for yourself." Jericho tried to reason with her, not drawing his own weapon.

"Worse? What's worse than your own father being willing to just hand you over to police? I'm not letting that happen, I'm not going to jail. I am not going to jail!" She screamed the repeat of her statement. Officers slightly behind her began to move in, trying to take her by surprise, but she saw them out of the corner of her eye, spinning her hostage to block them. "Don't you even think it. Back the hell off, and drop the guns!"

"What the hell do you think you are you doing? Put your weapons down right now! All of you!" Jericho ordered. The police all lowered their guns, but kept ready.

"Well done Jericho. You know this is my show. It's always been my show. Now, you just keep doing what I tell you, and this could still end without any bloodshed. Get on your radio, cellphone, whatever, you tell them to leave the keys in one of the cars parked out back, the ones they brought us here in. Leave the keys and for everyone to move away from it. I don't want to see one cop, one person when we go out there. Anyone gets even close enough that I'm not happy...well, I don't think I need to tell you what happens then." Stephanie made it crystal clear what her plan was.

"Fine." Jericho called on his phone, relaying the instructions and the situation they were in. He was seething that he was letting her go, but in the circumstances he he'd to admit that she held all of the cards.

"Right, they are moving away, just as you said. Take the car and go, but leave the Governor."

"No chance, he's the only reason I'm still in control, and if I go out there without him, you'll put a bullet in my head without thinking twice. Not with the Governor my hostage. Don't worry, though. You'll get him back. Once I'm away and clear. So you better make sure my safety is guaranteed." Stephanie smirked at Jericho, angering him further.

"Dammit Stephanie, let me go right now!" The Governor spoke with venom in his voice, but the fact it was his daughter stopped him from doing anything. If it was anyone else, he wouldn't have cared.

"Shut up Dad, I'm not taking orders from you for another second. We were supposed to go to Washington together, but you turned your back on me, so don't think I won't shoot you in yours, now come on!" Stephanie pushed her father towards the back and he walked in that direction. Stephanie didn't take her arm from around him or move the gun from under his jaw for a moment, essentially using him as a human shield.

"Open it!" She told him when they got to the doors to the outside. He did so and as she slowly walked out, she turned him one way, then the other, looking all around for any police presence, looking to foil her escape. She saw none, as Jericho's instructions had been complied with fully. Each officer had understood the seriousness of the situation. As she moved away from the building towards the SUV that had been left she could see finally see a small crowd on each side of her, all uniformed police, but far enough away that they couldn't try anything quickly enough.

"You keep back, all of you!" Stephanie loudly threatened. She took a quick look to make sure there were keys in the vehicle, which there were. She opened one of the rear doors and before she threw her father into the seat, she hit him hard in the back of the head with her gun, leaving him unconscious. She slammed his door, then got into the drivers seat, started the car and in a squeal of tyres and a puff of smoke too, the SUV disappeared around the corner.

Jericho, Wight and several others came running out of the building as soon as they knew that she had gone. They stood where the car did only seconds before.

Wight put his hands on his head in frustration. Jericho looked like he might kill the next person who dared speak.

Unfortunately someone did. "So now what do we do?" Was the honest question from a young officer.

Jericho spun round and grabbed him by the shirt with both hands.

"What do we do? Are you kidding me Junior? Get after her! That goes for everyone!" He shouted to all the other police officers anywhere near him. They did not need to wait for another order. They ran to their cars and the roads were immediately lit up by a score of blue and red flashing lights as they all disappeared into the Florida night.

A.N.: Thanks for reading. Glad to still have you with me.

Stephanie has gotten away. Again. But this time she will have Jericho and a lot of other cops hot on her heels. Can she get away safely, and how could she do it? Let me know your thoughts :-)
