Two days later (August 19)
It was two days after the dance and James Ironwood had done some investigating about what had happened after the dance and soon came to the conclusion that it was Amber's assailants.
Now Ozpin, Glynda and Ironwood were in Ozpins office and going over what happened that night.
Ironwood angrily slammed his fist against Ozpin's desk saying "They were here!"
"We're very much aware of that! Thank you, James" commented Glynda.
"Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us" argued Ironwood.
An alert sound played, signifying that someone has arrived on the elevator.
"Come in" said Ozpin.
Ruby stepped out of the elevator and was acting nervous as she kept walking as she saw the others looking at her.
"Sorry it took so long. Someone accidentally hit all the buttons on the elevator on the way up" said Ruby as she rubbed her neck and she then sheepishly said "It wasn't me."
Ozpin simply laughed through his nose as he said "Thank you for coming, Ruby. How are you feeling?" as he wondered what her response would be.
"Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if my bad-guy-catching record wasn't O-for-three" said Ruby, sheepishly as she continued to rub her neck, very nervously.
Everyone stared silently at her and it just made Ruby more embarrassed and scared.
"Okay, so that's the tone we're going for, got it" said Ruby.
"Ruby, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly what being a Huntress is all about. You recognized a threat, took action, and you did the very best you could" commented James as he walked over to her.
"Thank you, sir" said Ruby nervously.
"Now, the general here has already informed us of the events that... transpired last night, but now that you've rested, we were wondering if you had anything to add. Was anyone else with her? Did she look familiar to you at all? questioned Ozpin.
"I don't know. She was wearing a mask, wore black clothing, and she never said anything to me. But I know she fought with glass. I don't think that was her Semblance, though. Her clothing lit up whenever she attacked."
"That sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby" said Glynda adding to the conversation.
"Embedding Dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone" replied Ironwood.
"Wait? You think this girl is connected to Torchwick and the White Fang?" said Ruby feeling a bit worried.
"Possible. But we still don't have enough to connect the two together" said Ozpin.
Ruby then thought it might be a good idea to bust the White Fang at warehouse in Vale. She looked at Ozpin saying
"Actually, I... I think I remember her saying something about a hideout, or something, in the southeast" added Ruby, trying to make help the situation.
"Interesting. This is a good way to start" said Ozpin standing up.
"Wait. I thought you said the intruder never..." questioned Glynda until Ozpin interrupted her.
"Thank you for your cooperation, Ruby. Why don't you go and spend some time with that... interesting team of yours. You have a big day ahead of you" said Ozpin.
"Sure" was all Ruby said. She began walking towards the elevator until Ironwood stopped her saying,
"Miss Rose. I know that this might be a bit much for you but could you per chance send Mr. Salazar up here. We have some questions for him as well" questioned Ironwood.
Glynda knew what he was trying to pull as she then stepped forward and said "Now Ironwood, you wait one..."
"Glynda" said Ozpin in a stern voice, surprising Ruby and Glynda, making Glynda stop as she knew why he did that and just sighed an angry sigh and stepped back.
Ruby was worried about answering the question. She was worried about what they could possibly want to know about him and she didn't know Ironwood all that well and was afraid of what might happen if she did send him up. But she knew she couldn't defy her teachers so she knew what she had to do.
Ozpin knew what James was doing and was going to tell him to stop until Ruby said
"Sure, sir. I'll send him up when I get there. He is our teammate and we always have each others backs" said Ruby as she began heading over to the elevator.
When she finished talking, Ironwood stood proud and tall as he said "Ok then. Thank you for that Ruby. You may go."
Ruby did so and began walking towards the elevator until Ozpin said "Oh and. Miss Rose, please try and be ... discreet about this matter."
"Yes sir" she said as the doors closed.
Glynda then looked at James and said "What are you planning James?"
"You know just as well as I do that she knows something when she said that specific area in the southeast, meaning that she knows something and that means Rex knows too and considering what he's told us all, or more told you two, then if we ask him what exactly they did, we'll get the full detailed version from him" said Ironwood as he stared at the two with a serious face.
Ozpin sighed as he leaned forward and said "I understand James, but you should've let me do it. I've known Miss Rose for a while and when you tell her to send her own teammate, even after asking her questions, it could cause them to get suspicious. You should've let me message him and not tell her. You've got to think about what we promised him" as Ironwood sighed at his words.
"I do understand that, Oz, but with the way things have been happening, I can't help but need as much info as I can. Plus, I want see if Rex would be interested in..." said Ironwood but he was stopped by Ozpin.
"YOU WILL DO NOTHING OF THE SORT" yelled Ozpin as he slammed his hands on his desk.
"You know full well that that boy has enough on his plate just as much as the rest of us, and giving him a task this could spell trouble. I mean, what if one of your own scientist or officer were to take him away and try to experiment on him. You promised him that that wouldn't happen and I'm sorry if I don't trust your own branch but he is not joining that mission. If anything, it'd be with anyone but your military branch" as he calmed down and leaned back win his chair.
"But Oz, with his powers, I wouldn't need to send people out there onto the battle field. I could just send him with someone I trust and I'd be able to keep my soldiers from all dying on the battlefield" said Ironwood as he groaned while rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"But that's the thing, James. You trust them but me and Glynda have our own doubts" exclaimed Ozpin.
"I'm trying to keep this world safe. If that means using one person with extraordinary powers then..." said James but was cut short by Glynda.
"No you will do nothing of the sort, James. Besides we shouldn't be focused on him right now. It should be on the people that were here last night" said Glynda.
"Right. Then we send as many troops as we can to the southeast, find out exactly what's going on, and eradicate any forces that stand in our way" exclaimed Ironwood as he sighed.
"Why must your answer to everything involve a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di—!"
"Glynda!" yelled Ozpin.
"Well, he does" pointed out Glynda.
"She's right. As much as I too would love to end this situation once and for all, we must remember that this may go beyond Vale. Beyond Beacon. And if this truly is part of some master plan for which we know not the final move, we mustn't be so bold. Nor can we risk the spread of panic. Now I understand why you want Rex in your services but he is still young and I don't want him getting hurt on my watch" said Ozpin.
"But you've seen the way he fights. He took down to two giant grimm on his own. How could he not hold his own in battle?" said James.
"Yes I admit. He does have amazing powers but having him fight in the army or giving your armies his powers could prove to be disastrous. So excuse me if we have doubts about who you say you trust" said Ozpin.
Ironwood groaned as he pinched his nose bridge again as he then looked out of the window, looking at the students and soldiers down below.
Ironwood then sighed as he said "Ok, I'll admit. I've had moments of figuring out what his powers are and seeing if I can replicate them, but you must understand Oz. When I saw him battling the White Fang and then when you showed me the video of him battling those two giant grim, I thought that it was something great. If only one person had these powers, then I could spare the lives of the soldiers in my battalion."
Hearing this grabbed the attention of the two teachers as Glynda asked "What exactly do you mean?"
"You know that the way I've been training people to kill the grim and keeping the relics away from Salem has been our priority. But sometimes, when I do send people out onto the field, some don't return back. And I have to deal with going to those people's houses and telling their loved ones that they aren't coming home. Do you think I really I enjoy doing that?" said James as he looked out of the window, looking at the students and soldiers down below.
Ozpin sighed as he said "I know that you hate doing that, but you can't force a child to be a part of something big without them feeling overwhelmed by it."
"I know, Oz. Its just when I saw his powers, a sense of hope that if I could either have my robots or at least one person have these powers, then I would have to spare all of my soldiers the fear of never making it back home. That one person could save the world. I was just thinking about my soldiers and the lives of every single person on the planet. If one boy could do what an army couldn't accomplish, then sorry if I couldn't help but want to know what made him tick" said James as he kept staring out the window, not looking at the two.
Ozpin sighed as he knew how much of big heart Ironwood would have at times. He felt bad sending people out into the field to kill grim and save peoples lives. And that was one reason that he began to create the robotic soldiers. They weren't living and were easily replaceable. But his human soldiers were not, to him. Ironwood was a troubled man. He had a lot on his plate as well, being headmaster and general for Atlas.
"James, you've been faithfully for years... but I don't want you to think that my plan is to really hold the defenses, and wait, that's not it. You're a general, James. So tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts?" said Ozpin as Ironwood just sighed as he still stared out at the window but looked in the reflection and looked at Ozpin.
He knew he was right. You can't just go guns-a-blazing into a battle. You've got to assess the situation. But he couldn't help himself. With Rex showing up and making an enemy out of the White Fang, he knew that something big was going to happen. But what could it be?
All this unknown certainty was driving him crazy. But he knew he had to be patience. Plus, if he made a mistake that would affect Beacon or the students, he could lose whatever partnership he had with Rex. He wouldn't let Salem win so he knew they needed him to help them.
But soon the elevator dinged.
RRWBY's dorm
While Ruby was called away to Ozpin's office, Rex and the others waited in worry as they were scared what she was called in for.
Yang was laying in bed, Blake was reading a book, and Rex was pacing back and forth in their room, and it began to get on Weiss's nerves.
"Will you stop pacing?" complained Weiss as she was trying to read and his pacing was annoying and distracting her.
"I'll stop when Ruby gets back" said Rex.
"Im sure she's fine" said Blake, as she stopped her reading.
"That doesn't make me feel better" said Rex in annoyance.
"Come on, Rex. My sister is way too innocent to send get in trouble or put in detention" said Yang, trying to cheer Rex up.
"Yea I know, but it still worries me, what exactly she was sent for" said Rex.
He was about to continue but before anyone could say anything else, the door to Team RRWBY's dorm opened and the team saw Ruby standing there as she rubbed her hands together as she closed the door and walked into the room.
They all then ran up to her as Yang said in a panicked way, "What happened?!"
Ruby was about to say something but she then looked at Rex and remembered what she was told by the teachers and knew she had to say it.
"Hey, Rex. James Ironwood said he wanted to talk to you" said Ruby, making everyone pay attention to what she said.
Rex sighed as he said "I figured as much."
"Why are you always getting called up there? What could they possibly be wanting you for?" asked Weiss as she was being a little bit suspicious of him again.
"I'm a guy who's made himself an enemy of the White Fang, with the powers to grow metal out of my body, and able to do many things. He's just calling me because since he, you guys, and JNPR kept your promise not to tell anyone about my powers, he's just been planing out how we're to go about things. What with everyone now knowing my secret" said Rex as he made his way to the door.
"Come back with no trauma from Glynda's scoldings if you're in trouble" joked Yang as Ruby laughed as well.
Rex just shook his head as he opened the door and left.
As he left, he heard the other girls talking as he headed on his way but he didn't move from his spot.
He hated this.
He knew why Ironwood was calling him up. Probably for whatever really happened or something that only he knew. He and the headmasters were the only ones that really knew what was happening behind the scenes.
He hated keeping it all from his teammates and his friends but he was still afraid that if he told them the truth, then they would be set on helping him and want to follow him. And he knows how stubborn they all can be so he knew they would want to help. But he couldn't let them do that.
Why?
Because they had families to go back to. Loved ones who wanted them to come home alive. But his loved ones were far away. On a different planet even. He didn't know how powerful Salem was and no matter how much he wanted to believe it, he wasn't sure that he could keep them all alive and make it home. He just couldn't do it. But why did it have to be so hard.
Ozpin's office
Beacon Tower
Rex made it to the elevator and began his journey upward as he was preparing for whatever they were wanting to talk about.
The elevator soon stopped as the doors opened and Rex saw ironwood was looking out the glass window while Ozpin was turned in his chair, looking at Ironwood, while Glynda stayed at the side of his desk.
They all soon turned their heads and saw that Rex had made it.
"Ah, good. So good of you to join us" said Ozpin as he then swiveled in his chair as he faced Rex.
Rex stepped into the office and sat in a chair as he said "Alright, what did you call me here for? That job shadow stuff is happening soon and I kind of need to be ready when it starts."
Ozpin hummed as he said "Quite right. We'll make this short and send you on your way" as he sat up straight.
Ozpin then said "Rex, what exactly did you and your teammates do that involves the southeastern area here?" as he pointed with his thumb out the window.
Hearing this made Rex flinch a little as Ozpin caught glimpse of this.
"Sacred to tell me?" asked Ozpin in a sort of humorous way.
"Its not you I'm scared of. It's her that I'm worried about" said Rex as he pointed at Glynda.
Hearing this made Glynda flinch as she said "If you're that afraid then it must've been something bad. So you better choose your words carefully..."
"Glynda! Stand down" scolded Ozpin as he knew what she was going to do.
"Come on, Oz. Its obvious its something big so he better be careful with what he says" said Glynda as she slapped her riding crop in her hand, making Rex flinch.
"See what I mean" said Rex as he held up his hands in defense.
"Glynda. Lets hear him out. He's shared as much info about him as he can. There's no reason to be so hostile towards him" said Ozpin, trying to calm her down.
Glynda just groaned as she stepped back.
James then stepped forward as he said "Go ahead Rex."
Rex sighed as he turned around and said "Me and my teammates...did some snooping and infiltrated a White Fang Operation in a warehouse in Vale to see what they were up to" as he prepared for the scolding of a lifetime.
And he wasn't too far off.
The moment he said that, the teachers were all in shock.
"So I guess that's why Ruby had mentioned the Southeast area being a place where our intruders might be at" said Ozpin to Rex but James and Glynda were more of the direct approach of what he said instead of keeping it to themselves.
James stepped forward as he said "Do you have any idea how reckless that is?!"
Glynda said "What were you thinking?! Did you ever think about the safety of your friends and if this would make you more of an enemy to the White Fang?!"
Glynda then finished saying, "How foolish of you to do such a thing?! You're not suppose to be doing covert operations like this behind our backs. Did you ever think of the consequences?!"
Rex just leaned back in his chair from all the yelling as the teachers soon stopped their yelling.
He then sat back down as he said "Yes, yes, and yes."
"What do you mean by that?" asked Ozpin in slight stern matter.
"I thought about the things that might happen if me and my teammates did this job. That I'd paint myself an even bigger target if I did go with them but I did it for a good reason" said Rex as his voice didn't change, even after he was being scolded.
"It better be a good or else you're scrubbing the bathrooms for a month" scolded Glynda as she slapped her hand with her riding crop.
Rex flinched a little at her action but expected her to do that. He then took a deep breath as he said "I did it because it was affecting my teammate."
Hearing this made the three, well two, stop their arguing and listen to what he had to say.
Ozpin leaned forward on his desk as he asked "What do you mean by "affecting my teammate?"
"How much do you know about Blake?" asked Rex.
"If you're referring to her being once a member of the White Fang, then I do know quite a bit about her" said Ozpin, surprising James but not Glynda as she knew about Blake's past.
"Good. That saves me some time. So then you understand that she knows about how the White Fang work, correct?" asked Rex, making sure they were on the same page.
"Indeed" said Ozpin.
"Good. Well, Blake hasn't been sleeping or eating well the past few weeks or so and it was all based on her paranoia of what the White Fang is doing at this moment. Me and the others tried to help her but she wouldn't listen. So we decided to take it upon ourselves to sneak around and find out what they were up to. And we learned that they are managing something in the south earthen part of...here, I guess. Or wherever" said Rex trying to think where exactly this southeastern area was.
"The point is we did this for Blake and I felt like doing this for Blake was the least that I could do for her" said Rex in a somber as the three teachers picked up on it.
"What do you mean by what you could do for her?" asked Ozpin.
Rex sighed as he said "Ever since I ended up here, in this world, and ending up on the news, I seemed to have made things more stressful for Blake. Because I ended up on the news, showing me battling the White Fang, I made myself an enemy of the White Fang and from what Blake told me, they aren't going to take that defeat lying down. So it made her more paranoid about what they were planning to do and it began to make her eat less and sleep less" as he looked down at the ground
"So I guess you could say I did this for her because I feel like I'm the reason that she became more stressed out. So I thought I'd try and help her feel less paranoid and stressed but I guess I failed that since she was still that way before the dance. So, yell at me all you want, but I did this for a friend and I don't regret it. Besides, we all made it back in one piece, so there's no need to be concerned" said Rex as he sat back up and crossed his arms in confidence.
This surprised the teachers as they had no idea that that was "his" reason for going against school rules and possibly making himself stand out even more. He would go that far for a friend. Talk about commitment or camaraderie.
Ozpin smiled as he said "I guess I can understand your reasons for doing so. Trust me, you ending up on the news hasn't caused problems for Miss Blake alone..." as this made Rex rub the back of his neck.
"...But it still wasn't ok for you to just up and do whatever you want. You may not be a resident of this world but you are a student here. So even if you did this for a friend, rules are still rules. So, I'll have to form out some kind of punishment."
Rex groaned as he heard this as Ozpin began to think.
"I suppose, cleaning the bathrooms for two weeks is punishment enough for being reckless and breaking the rules..." said Ozpin as he paused for effect.
"Aww man" said Rex as he groaned in annoyance, making Ozpin stop what he was saying, but he just smiled.
"...And a free homework pass for being brave and showing camaraderie" finished Ozpin with the same smile.
Hearing this made Rex look up at him and then just chuckled.
"Sheesh, gave me a heart attack. Making me think that you were going to add more" chuckled Rex as Ozpin did the same.
"Well you may be a hero in your world but you're my student here, so you don't get much for a special pass. Punishments still need to be given to students that break the rules, regardless if they're of this world or not" said Ozpin as he winked at Rex.
"Don't do that. That's just creepy" said Rex, as Ozpin just blushed at how awkward things had gotten.
James cleared his throat as he said "I think we've kept you here long enough. Thank you for telling us the truth. And for keeping it all a secret. I know its tough for you to keep this from your own teammates but its for the best" as he rested his hand on Rex's shoulder.
Rex breathed heavily through his nose as he said "I hope you're right about that" as he just stared at the ground.
"Right, well we better send you on your way back and get ready. The job shadowing event starts soon so you better get ready" said Ozpin as he stood up from his chair.
Rex nodded as he began to walk to the elevator and stepped in, but before he left the building, Ironwood held his shoulder, stopping him in place.
"Wait, Rex. Before you go, I want to give you something. Hand me your scroll" said Ironwood, making Rex turn around to face him.
"Why?" asked Rex.
"Because I want to give you my contact information. If you ever see something that concerns you or something that requires my attention or forces, you let me know" said Ironwood as he held out his hand.
Rex had a strange feeling in his gut when Ironwood said that, but he knew that he was right. They were working on forming a partnership, so he knew he had to try and work with Ironwood so he pulled his scroll out from his pocket and handed it to Ironwood.
Ironwood took it and typed in his info to Rex for emergencies.
He then handed it back to Rex and before he even left, Ironwood out his hands behind his back and said "Rex, I know that you don't trust me since I'm a general for the Atlas military and you've told me how you haven't had the best experience with military personal, but I want you to understand that I run the Atlas military because I want to protect the people from the grimm and Salem. I know you told me that I have to earn your trust but I want you to understand that our goals are similar. We want to protect the innocent. Can we at least agree on that?" said Ironwood, trying to strengthen their partnership.
He knew that the threat of Salem was serious and with what Rex can do, he would be helpful in stopping her.
Rex nodded as he said "Yea" as he then paused a bit as he stepped onto the elevator and turned around and said "I'll contact you if its necessary" then headed downstairs.
Silence had filled the air as the three teachers sat or stood alone in silence until...
"How much longer can we keep going like this?" said Glynda, making the others look at her as they wondered what she meant.
"What exactly do you mean, Glynda?" asked Ozpin.
"I mean how much more must we make this boy suffer like this" said Glynda as she looked towards the elevator with a somber look.
This surprised both teachers as Ozpin said "Suffer?"
"Yes. We keep making him keep secrets from everyone else, even the friends he's made here at Beacon and I can see it starting to affect him" said Glynda in a slight sad tone.
"What are you talking about?" asked James.
"That boy has made us swear up and down not to tell anyone about his abilities and where he's really from because he's afraid of being hated or left alone. And the fact that he can't tell anyone about this has to be having some affect on him, and the more we keep pushing him with more info or telling him to keep info secret, then it could cause some ripples or problems in the future for not only him but possibly us as well. We've got to give him some slack" said Glynda, trying to defend him.
Ozpin could see the seriousness in her eyes but then chuckled to himself.
The two other staff noticed his chuckle as James said "What could possibly be funny at a time like this?"
Ozpin soon stopped his chuckle as he said "It would seem that our hard-to-please Glynda seems to be growing a soft spot for Rex. Could you perhaps find him to be like a stubborn grandchild to you?" as he leaned over on his desk.
Glynda grew a blush on her face as she said "No of course not! Whatever gave you that idea?!" as she turned away and tried to keep her blush under control.
Ironwood was surprised at her reaction as he said "Well I guess he does have an effect on anyone, doesn't he" as he too chuckled a bit.
Hearing this made Glynda's eyes widen a bit as her face soon became a somber one as she stared out the window, in the direction of the dorms.
Ozpin could see the look on her face as he said "Is there, perchance, anything you would like to tell us, Glynda?" asked Ozpin.
Glynda didn't move as she kept staring out the window.
She took a deep breath and let it all out as she said "I don't know. But for some reason, when I see him out there, fighting battles, making friends, or doing whatever, he reminds me of an old dream I once had" as she kept looking out the window.
This made Ozpin grow a somber look as he recalled what she was actually talking about, but James didn't know what dream she was talking about.
"What exactly was that dream?" asked Ironwood.
Glynda kept staring at the window as she said "When I came to Beacon, I had a dream that one day, someone would stand up to everything. Against all the odds, against every evil that came their way and would saved everyone in the world. They stopped discrimination against the Faunus and made the criminals of the world stop their evil ways. Granted it was just a frivolous thought I once had, but it was one that I hoped for the most in this world when I was younger" as she then looked in the direction of the dorms.
"And when I see him take on stuff, fight for the Faunus, and go on these dangerous missions, and yet still come back with a smile..." said Glynda as she dramatically paused as she clenched her fists lightly.
"...I guess I can't help but feel like that dream is coming true. He may be a visitor from the stars but he's a one of a kind person. And I guess I hope that he could be the key to stopping Salem and her plans. Then maybe this world will finally smile again. No more fights, no more grimm. None of it. Just a peaceful world. Its something that I can't help but hope for" said Glynda as she placed her right hand over her heart.
"I guess you could say that I hate having to put him through these tough decisions because I'm hoping that, in the time that he's here, he can do greater things. Things no one else could do. And I don't want him keeping all this a secret be the reason he can't do those greater things. So I guess I have gotten soft on him. How about that" chuckled Glynda as she leaned her forehead on the glass.
Ozpin and James were surprised by her words. She had that much hope for that boy? Talk about making a good impression. It may not have been a good "first" impression but he seemed to have change Glynda's mind.
Ozpin breathed heavily through his nose as he said "I'm amazed that your that confident in the boy. Guess he's changed you mind about who he is. Heck, he's changed this place a bit since landing here."
"What do you mean by that?" asked Glynda.
"We never payed much attention to our students in the past, and people were being bullied right in front of our faces. And we didn't do anything about it. But when he came in, he saw the students, especially Faunas, getting bullied and decided to do something about it. Now, he managed to make sure that no one else gets bullied and he seems to have been getting respect from other faunas in other kingdoms, based on what they said in our headmaster calls" said Ozpin as he smiled in admiration.
"So I guess he's kind of already starting to make that dream of yours a reality, huh" said Ozpin as he said looked at Glynda with a smile.
Glynda couldn't help but smile as well as she knew he was right. Rex really has seemed to make an impact on other people. Guess its a good thing that let him stay. Would've been very boring and sad without him around.
James sighed through a smile as he said "Well, I guess we can only see what he does in the future. For now, lets help him along that path. Maybe he can one day unite this world together. We'll just have to see. But for now, I have to go make a phone call. I'll talk with you two later" said Ironwood as he walked over to the elevator and went down.
Ozpin hen sipped his coffee as he said "Well, we better get to working on the event happening today" as he began tying away on his computer.
Team RRWBY's dorm(During Rex's chat)
After Rex had left, Yang asked Ruby "So what exactly happened. What did they call you for" as she rubbed her fingers over her sisters hands.
Uh... well, um..." said Ruby as she stumbled with her words as she then began explaining what happened.
One explanation later ...
Ruby had finally finished talking to her teammates about what Ozpin sent her for.
"That was a risky move" said Weiss
"No, I think you handled it well" said Blake, trying the make Ruby feel better.
"I hope so" said Ruby, still unsure of things.
Then she was brought out of thought as Yang shook her shoulder saying "I'm sure everything will be alright, Ruby. Oh, I know what will cheer you up" as she pulled a cylinder from on the table.
"What's that?" asked Ruby.
"I don't know yet. Dad sent it to us. I thought we could open it together!" said Yang.
"Ooooh! Something from home!" said Ruby giddily as she ran up to Yang and tried to take the cylinder from her. But before they even opened it, they heard the door open and the group turned around to see it was Rex at the door.
All 4 of them then zoomed up close to Rex as Ruby said "So what happened?"
"De ja vue" thought Rex.
He then pushed the four away from him as he said "*sigh* They made me tell the truth about what exactly happened during the last few weeks, meaning they made me tell them about our little covert operation."
This made the 4 flinch as Weiss rubbed her neck as she asked "And what did they say exactly?"
"They weren't happy about us doing that, and now, I have to clean the bathrooms for two weeks so you guys better be grateful I took the hit for you" said Rex in a slight annoyed manner.
The girls then sighed that they weren't in trouble but then Yang got an idea as she said "Hey, why don't you help us open this package that Dad sent us. It might cheer you up" as she held up the black canister.
Then something slipped out from the package. It moved around and out popped a little Corgi.
It was Zwei.
The dog barked as the team stood in shock as Ruby jumped up saying "Zwei!"
"He sent a dog?" said Blake as she backed away from it.
"In the mail?" continued Weiss as she was still in confusion and shock.
"How on earth did that dog fit in a tiny container?" said Rex in amazement
"Oh, he does stuff like this all the time!" said Yang as Ruby held Zwei in her arms and giggled at him licking her face.
"Your father or your dog?" asked Blake as she climbed up on Ruby's bunk in a freaked out manner.
Weiss looked down at the dog in disgust and said "Are you telling me that this mangy... drooling..." as she then looked closer at the dog.
"...mutt is going to wiv wif us foweva? Oh, yes he is, yes he is! Oh, isn't he adorable!" exclaimed Weiss as her emotions did a full 180 and saw how cute he was.
"Ha. And you complain about Ruby being a child" said Rex as he chuckled at her emotions.
"Oh shut up. She does it 24/7. I just did it now" said Weiss trying to defend herself.
"So you just admitted to acting like a child" smirked Rex at his jab at Weiss.
Weiss grumbled in frustration at his comments and turned away.
"Please keep it away from my belongings" said Blake as she was trying to stay far away from the dog.
Rex looked at how Blake was far away from Zwei and snickered and thought "I want to make a "scaredy-cat" joke but I think that's too obvious."
The team then heard Glynda over the intercom saying "Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheater?"
"Well, we can't exactly leave him here while we're gone for the week" said Weiss as she pointed at the dog.
"Look, there's a letter!" said Yang as she pulled out a piece of paper from the canister.
"Dear girls, I've got to leave the island for a few days, so I'm sending Zwei to you to take care of. Enclosed is all the food you should need. Love you both, Taiyang. P.S. Tell Rex I said hi" said yang as she read the letter.
She turned the package upside down and dozens of canned dog food spilt out of the small package, piling up around Zwei.
"What is he supposed to do with that?" Said Weiss.
A can opener then fell from the package, bouncing off Zwei's head and clanked on the ground.
"Well, that settles it! Come on guys, Zwei will be here when we get back!" Said Yang.
"If he dies cause he can't use a can opener, just blame Weiss" said Rex.
"Hey" yelled Weiss.
She then looked down at zwei as they left saying in a babyish voice "Oh, I'll miss you so much, we're going to be best friends, I can't wait to see you."
"You're just proving my point more and more" said Rex under his voice.
The team then began walking towards the commons area with backpacks as Ruby had a large backpack. They set their stuff down and walked to the stagers they stood in front of Team JNPR.
"Quiet! Quiet please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin" said Glynda calming the students down. Ozpin walked on stage and stood in front of the microphone.
"Today we stand together, united. Mistral. Atlas. Vacuo. Vale. The four Kingdoms of Remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, of greed, and of oppression. A war that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom, but about the very idea of individualism itself. We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for. As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself: color. It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come. And it was a trend that is held to this very day" said Ozpin as the whole theater became silent.
"We encourage individuality, expressionism, and unity through diversity. As I have said, today we stand together, united. But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission. Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best" said Ozpin as the students clapped and cheered at him.
Soon everyone began to gather their belongings and began heading to the terminals to find their job shadowing.
"This is perfect! All we have to do is shadow a Huntsman working in the southeast" said Ruby.
"Yeah! We'll follow them around by day and give them the slip by night!" said Yang.
"A plan like that sounds like it could go good or bad" said Rex, not being to sure about the plan.
"Have faith that we can do it" said Weiss.
"I do but these huntsman might be good at noticing when we're gone if they aren't near us" said Rex.
"Let's just focus and find a spot" said Blake.
"Let's check "Search and destroy" said Weiss as they gathered around some screens and began looking through the choices.
"Here we go! Quadrant 5 needs Grimm cleared out!" Said Rex as he pointed at the screen.
"Well, it's in the southeast. Sounds perfect" said Yang.
Ruby selected it and typed in her team name. However, the screen said "Mission Unavailable to first year students."
"Wonderful!" Said Weiss in annoyance.
"Any other ideas?" asked Blake.
"We mail ourselves there!" exclaimed Ruby as she raised her hands in the air.
"Let me rephrase what Blake said. Any good and workable ideas" said Rex as Ruby grumbled at no one taking her option.
"Well, that's one option" said a voice, making the team turn their heads to see that the voice was from Ozpin, holding his coffee mug.
"Unfortunately, we determined that the concentration of Grimm was too extreme for first-year students to take part in. It seems that particular region is rather popular. In fact, I have the sneaking suspicion that you four, sorry, five will make your way there no matter which job you choose" said Ozpin.
Weiss, Blake, and Yang glare at Ruby and Rex, who nervously rubbed her head saying "Whatever makes you say that?"
Ozpin sighed as he said "I'm already aware about how you all found yourself at the docks a few weeks back. And Rex here told me about how you all went on a dangerous mission behind our backs and thought it'd be a good idea to do so" as he finished his sentence in a slight scolding manner.
"Um... well..." was all Ruby said trying to find a way out of the situation.
"You five are a strange bunch, some more than others, but I know that you're still children and you're stubborn enough to try and find your way there no matter what so how about this: instead of waiting for you all to break the rules, why don't we just bend them?" said Ozpin as he held his scroll and they saw their name on the broad.
"We won't let you down. Thank you, professor" said Ruby in confidence as she saluted.
"Do not thank me for this. Teamwork and persistence have carried you far. But you must understand, the things that await you beyond the protection of the Kingdom will not care. Stay close to your Huntsman at all times, and do exactly as he says. He will be leading you on this mission, and he can have you sent back to Beacon, if he finds your skills to be unsatisfactory. Good luck" said Ozpin as he began walking away, but soon winked at Rex, signifying that he knew Rex would be the perfect man for this job.
After Ozpin changed things around for them, Team RRWBY left the auditorium and were on their way to the airship that will take them to Quadrant 5.
"That wasn't exactly uplifting" said Yang as she said it in an annoyed manner.
"But it's the truth" said Rex.
"It's gonna to be tough, but I know we can do it! Especially if we have Rex with us" said Ruby.
"Yea with a strong man on our side, we will definitely win" teased Yang as she wrapped her arm around his and pulled it into her boobs.
"Good grief" said Rex as he had a slight blush on his face.
"We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now" said Ruby in confidence.
"Right" said Blake, agreeing with her teammates.
"Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman!" Said Rex
"Yeah!" Yelled Yang in her cheery mood.
Outside in the Courtyard
The team then found themselves standing in shocked expressions at who they were shadowing. Yang and Ruby had paranoid or scared faces on, Weiss just had a blank expression with comedic white eyes, Blake just had a look of fear on her face, as Rex just had a look of disappointment.
There stood the most crazy teacher in all of Beacon. He was so quick, it was like he was giving reality the middle finger. There before them was a man with messy green hair and brown eyes. His attire is disheveled: his white shirt partially tucked into his dark-green pants and its collar raised, showing a slack yellow tie, along with mismatched brown and black shoes. He had a long brown coat on, and wore a adventurer looking hat on. He also had round glasses that appear to be opaque.
"Why, hello boy and girls! Who's ready to fight for their lives?" Said the crazed Dr Oobleck as he swung his right arm in cheerfulness.
"I can already see this plan going up in flames" said Rex internally as he knew things were going to get crazy now.
