Runaway Prince
Normal POV
It has been seven days since Hiccup spared the Night Fury and alot has happened. When Hiccup returned home after running into the Night Fury, he was put into dragon training which he didn't want anymore by his father. After the Gronkle incident in the first day of dragon training, he remembers his mentor Gobber saying that a dragon always go for the kill and it made him think why the Night Fury spared him instead of killing him. When Hiccup found the dragon in a hidden cove, he drew a picture of it in his journal, then he noticed that it wasn't flying away and the dragon only had one tailfin. When Hiccup accidently dropped his pencil, it caught the attention of the dragon and when he tilted his head, the dragon copied his movement. When Hiccup was reading the dragon manual, he notice that it had nothing on Night Furies.
"Speed, unkonwn. Size, unknown. The unholly offspring of lightning and death itself. Never engaged this dragon, your only chance, hide and pray it does not find you." Hiccup remember saying. On the second day of dragon training where Hiccup and the teens were going up against a Deadly Nadder, he wasn't enen trying and was asking questions about Night Furies instead and it got Astrid mad that she thinks its all of a joke to him.
"Is this some kind of a joke to you? Our parent's war is about to become ours, figure out what side you're on." Hiccup remembered Astrid saying. When he went to the cove with a fish, he offered it to the dragon who was moving towards it but the dragon saw Hiccup's dagger which made him aggressive. When Hiccup threw his dagger aside, the dragon became calm again. When the dragon opened its mouth, Hiccup saw that the dragon was toothless which he named the dragon and he found out that Toothless had retractable teeth. When Toothless ate the fish, he Coughed up half of it for Hiccup to have. When Hiccup smiled, Toothless mimicked him by showing a gummy smile. Hiccup was about to touch Toothless and when the dragon saw this, he snarled and glided away. Moments later, Toothless saw the human drawing him in the dirt, he walked away to get a large branch and started drawing scribbles in the dirt with it. Hiccup was shocked about it and when he stepped on one of the lines, Toothless growled at him but calmed down when Hiccup removes his foot. Hiccup did this two more times which made the dragon growl again and again until he stepped over the line and toothless remained calm. As he was stepping over more lines, Hiccup felt Toothless behind him and as he reach his hand out, the dragon growled. Hiccup brought his hand back and turned his head with his eyes closed and reached his hand out again. When Toothless saw this, he realized that Hiccup was different than the other vikings and placed his snout in Hiccup's hand, giving him his trust. Later that night when Gobber was telling the teens stories, he revealed something that made Hiccup realize about why Toothless couldn't fly. He remembered what Goober said that night.
"It's the wings and the tail you really want, If it can't fly, it can't getaway. A downed dragon, is a dead dragon." Hiccup built a prosthetic tailfin for Toothless and put it on the next day with some fish for the dragon to eat and found out that dragons don't like eels which he used on a Hideous Zippleback in dragon training. Later, Hiccup built a saddle which he put on Toothless the next day. The next day after trying to test out the tailfin, Hiccup found Toothless rolling around in a type of grass he named dragon nip and used some on a Gronkle in training. When he was giving Toothless some scratches the next day, he gave the dragon a scratch under the chin which put Toothless in a peaceful state of paralysis and he used this technique on the Nadder in training. Back in the cove the next day, Toothless was chasing and trying to catch a light that was being reflected by Hiccup's hammer in the sunlight and he did this with a Terrible Terror in class by using his shield. Hiccup noticed that he was getting famous in excelling dragon training and Astrid was getting jealous because of it. Hiccup was nearly caught by Astrid as he was making his way to the cove. As Hiccup was testing out the tailfin and writing down the steps, the harness got stuck to the saddle and he had to sneak into the village at night to get it unstuck. Astrid caught him in the process but she didn't find Toothless and they both manage to escape.
Earlier today, Hiccup and Toothless did a test drive and they succeeded. In celebration, Toothless shot a plasma blast which turned to a cloud of fire as they flew through it. Later, they were on an island and Toothless offered Hiccup half of fish which he coughed up but Hiccup said he was good while cooking his own fish. After that, four Terrible Terrors flew towards them and were trying to steal some fish from them. One manage to sneak one away but Toothless caught the little dragon and snatched the fish away and ate it. The Terror was green with reddish orange wings, spines, and horns. The little dragon was about to breathed fire on Toothless but he manage to shoot a small plasma blast in the little dragon's mouth proved that dragons are not fire proof on the inside. When Hiccup gave the Terrible Terror his fish, the little dragon happily snuggled with him.
"Everything we know about you guys is wrong." He remembered saying.
Hiccup's POV
It was now nighttime and I was in my room in Gobber's shop. I was resting my head on my desk that was scattered with drawings of Toothless and flicking my pencil up on my desk waited for it to roll back down so I could flick it again. I did this a couple of times until I heard someone coming into my room and when I saw who it was, it was none other than my father. "Dad? You're back." I said while hiding the drawings of Toothless. "I-uh-Gobber's not here so..." I stated to him.
"I Know." My father said as he squeezed his way through the door way and fixing his helmet. "I came looking for you." He said to me.
"You-You did?" I asked him as I closed my journal.
"You've been keeping secrets." He said to me suspiciously.
"I-uh-I-I hav-I have?" I asked him again.
"Just how long did you think you could hide it from me?" My father asked me.
"I-I-I don't know what you're..." I said before my father interrupted
"Nothing happens on this island without me hearing about it. So, lets talk...about that dragon." My father said making me think that my secret about Toothless has been found out.
"Oh gods. Dad, I am so sorry. I-I-I was going to tell you, I just didn't know how to uh..." I said but I was soon interrupted when my father started chuckling and then laughing.
Hehehe-HAHAHAHAHA!!!" My father laughed which made me laugh nervously.
"Hehehehe. You-you are-you're not.. upset?" I asked him.
"Ah-WHAT! I was hoping for this." He replied while looking excited.
"Uh, you were?" I asked in confusion.
"And believe me, it only gets better." He said making me even more confused. "Just wait until you spilt a Nadder's guts for the first time and mount your first Gronkle head on a spear." My father said to me which made realize in horror of what he was saying. I was doing these tricks in dragon training so I wouldn't get any suspicious looks and protect Toothless because his is my only friend but it actually made things worse because I'm now famous in the whole village. "What a feeling!" He said as he fist bumped me with some force which caused me to fall and get stuck in a barrel that was behind me. "You really had me going there, son. All those years of the worst viking Berk has ever seen!" He stated as I got myself unstuck and looked at him worriedly. "Odin, it was rough. I almost gave up on you and all the while you were holding out on me, oh thor almighty!" My father said out loud before he grabbed a stool nearby and sat down."With you doing so well in the ring... we finally have something to talk about." He said to me softly. I was standing here quietly looking at him while he waiting patiently for me to say something. This felt like an awkward moment but my father broke the silence when spoke again. "Oh, I uh... I-I brought you something.. to keep you safe... in the ring." He said as brought out what was revealed to a viking helmet and gave it to me.
"Wow, thanks." I said to him before I started examining the helmet and placed my hand on it.
"Ah, your mother would of wanted you to have it, it's half of her breast plate. He stated making me pull my hand back and feel a little bit disgusted. "Matching set." He said while tapping his helmet. "Keeps her... keeps her close you know." He said. "Wear it proudly. You deserve it, you've held up your end of the deal." My father said. I slowly placed the helmet on my desk and pretended to yawn to get out of this conversation.
"I should really get to bed in about now" I said to the chief.
"Yes, good. Okay, good talk." Stoick said to me as he got up.
"I'll-I'll-I'll see back at the house. Great, uh thanks for stopping by and for the uh..." I said.
"I glad that you like the-you like the um..." My father said as he was trying to find the word.
"The breast hat." I said, finishing his sentence.
"The hat." He said before clearing his throat. "I'll uh... Yep, good night." He said quickly before he squeezed through his way out. I just hope that I don't win tomorrow.
- The next day, at the kill ring -
Normal POV
Hiccup was hiding behind a wooden barricade from the Gronkle that was hovering around and he held an ax, a shield, and his new helmet that he got recently on his head. While Hiccup was hiding, Astrid quickly ducked behind the same barricade that he was using to hide with her ax. When she saw that she was right next to him, Astrid shoved his shield down harshly and got in his face. "Stay out of my way, I'm winning this thing." She said before walking away.
"Good. Please, by all means." Hiccup said as he got up and saw his father giving him a thumbs up while watching. Hiccup fixes his helmet and nervously smiles at his father before frowning as he turns around. While the Gronkle was heading towards Hiccup's direction, Astrid follows it while running from barricade to barricade until she stops and ducks behinds one.
"This time, this time for sure." Astrid said to herself. She yelled a battle cry and started running towards the dragon with her ax out but stops when she saw the dragon laying on its side with its tongue hunging out and its back leg kicking the air with Hiccup next to it gestering to the dragon. When everyone started cheering for him, Astrid finally loses it. "NO! UGH! SON OF A HALF TROLL, RAT EATING, MUNGE BUCKET!" She yelled out as she swung her ax around in anger.
"Wait! Wait!" Stoick said out loud, trying to get everyone to be quiet.
"So, later." Hiccup said as he was about to leave but was stopped by Gobber.
"Uh uh, not so fast." The blacksmith said as he grabbed Hiccup by the vest with his hook and brought him back.
"Uh, I-I-I'm kinda late for-" Hiccup said but was cut off by Astrid who placed ax at his neck.
"What?! Late for what, exactly?!" Astrid asked while angry.
"Okay, quiet down. The elder has decided." Stoick said to everyone before giving some room to Gothi. Gobber stood behind the two teens and raised his hook over Astrid. Gothi shook her no and it shocked everyone. Gobber then raised his hand over Hiccup and pointed at him. Gothi nods her head and smiles which caused the crowd to burst into applause knowing that Hiccup has been chosen.
"Oh, you've done it!" Gobber said to Hiccup while Astrid started glaring at him. "You've done it Hiccup! You get to kill the dragon!" Gobber exclaimed. All the teens except Astrid ran into the ring, picked up Hiccup and placed him on Fishlegs's shoulder while they cheered for him.
"Ha, Ha! That's my boy!" Stoick yelled out loud. Hiccup started to pretend to be excited knowing that his worst fear is coming true.
"Oh yeah! Yes! I can't wait. I am so..."
- Later, in the cove -
Hiccup's POV
"... leaving! We're leaving! Let's pack up! Looks like you and me are taking a little vacation, forever." I said while carrying a basket on my back and looking to see where Toothless is at. I had all my things packed up in the basket and was wearing my harness. I placed my basket on the ground and opened it to if I have everything. I decided to bring my helmet with me because it used to be my mother's breast plate and it's the only thing I have of her. "Aw, man." I said as I started to fix my harness. As I did, I heard something snap and I went to see what it was. I started to think that someone must've followed me but it was just Toothless laying down, resting. "There you are, Toothless." I said to him When he heard me, he started to look happy and ran to me. "Yes, I know. I'm happy to see you too." I said to him sarcastically. When he saw my basket, he starts walking towards it, thinking that there's fish in it. When he looked inside, he saw that it wasn't fish and it was my stuff and looked at me confused and disappointed at the same time. I chuckled at him and started to explain what is going on. "We're leaving, bud. We're going to find place that we can call home, where no one can harm you, and where we can be who we really are." I said to Toothless who seems to get the idea. I strapped my basket to the saddle securely before I mounted on Toothless. I pressed down on the stirrup and opened his tail. "This is it, Toothless. It's time to leave, forever." I stated to him before he warbled in response. "Can't say I'll miss this whole island, because Odin knows I won't. So long Berk." I said out loud. "Lets go bud." I said to Toothless before he launched out of the cove and into the sunset sky above. Minutes later, I looked to see that Berk is now a small speck as we continued flying south. "Goodbye dad." I said to myself before facing the other way.
