Explanations Part 1

Hiccup's POV

"Who are you, where did you come from, why are you here, and why do you ride a dragon?" The king asked firmly. I sighed, knowing that I have to tell both the king and queen about me without lying.

"My name's Hiccup, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III." I said to the king and queen who raised their eyebrows at me.

"Hiccup?" The queen questioned.

"Yes, I know. But it's not the worst. Where I'm from, parents believed that hidious names will frighten off gnomes and trolls." I said to them. They both looked at each other and looked back at me.

"Okay. Since you told us your name, tell us where you're from." The king stated to me.

"I'm from an island far north of here called Berk. It's located in the barbaric archipelago." I replied to them.

"Berk? I don't believe I have heard of it." The king said. "Can you... show us a map of it?" The king asked me.

"I could but I lost my map in the storm. Do you by any chance have any maps." I asked the royal couple. The king stood up from his desk and went over to a barrel filled with tube looking things next to his book shelf. He was going through the barrel and pulled out a tube then went back over to his desk. When he got to his desk, I saw that the tube was labeled archipelago before the king pulled the lid off and pulled a map out of it. Once he took it out, the king unrolled it on top of his desk and I started looking over it. The map was different from the ones I made and back on Berk. Speaking of Berk, I spotted an island that looked like the same shape as Berk and pointed at that Island. "There." I said to them.

"I see. You're a long way from home then. How long have you been traveling?" The queen asked me.

"Five days. Me and Toothless rest during the day and we... fly during the night so no one could see us." I said to her.

"Then tell us. Why are you here?" The king asked me.

"Like I said, we didn't mean to come here. We were just passing by but Toothless's tail was struck by lightning and it caused us to crash here." I said to them again. "A-are you... going to send me back? They will... kill Toothless... and me for being for being a traitor." I said worriedly while looking down.

"What do you mean?" The king asked me.

"They would kill you, their own kind?" The queen asked a little surprised.

"It's a long story" I said before I sighed.

"I'm from Berk, it's twelve days north of hopeless and a few degrees south of freezing to death. It's located solidly on the meridian of misery. The village. I used to live in. In a word? Sturdy. It's been there for seven generations, but every building is new. There's fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems there are the pests." I stated.

"What kind of pests?" The king suddenly asked.

"Well, where most places have mice or mosquitoes. The pests we have there are... dragons." I said to the king and queen who went wide eyed.

"Dragons?" The royal couple asked at the same time.

"Yes." I stated.

"As in the giant flying fire breathing lizards?" The king asked me.

"Yes. They raid us for our food and livestock." I replied.

"Why didn't you just leave to a place where dragons don't raid you?" The queen asked me.

"We're vikings, it's a occupational hazard. Not to mention, we have stubbornness issues." I Replied to the queen.

"Vikings! As in those barbarians who raid and rape?" The king asked while the queen looked like she was about to call the guards.

"Actually, we're not like those ones. Instead, we just... stayed, along with other tribes." I said unsure about what the king and queen will say.

"Well, we thought that your kind were long gone by now." The queen said as she relaxed.

"Anyway. As I was saying, we been at war with dragons for three hundred years and it was either kill or be killed." I stated to the royal couple.

"If dragons were your enemies, then why are you friends with one?" The king asked.

"Well, it all started on a dragon raid a few weeks ago." I replied. "Before I met Toothless, I wanted to kill dragons too so I could prove myself to everyone in the village, including my father who is the chief of the tribe that I'm from." I said to the king.

"Chief?" The two royals questioned.

"Oh... umm, he is in charge... like a king, like you. He rules over the tribe known as the hairy hooligans and I'm his son which makes me his heir and prince, kinda?" I said a little unsure.

"Ah, I understand now." The king said. "Carry on, then." He added.

"My father is known as Stoick the Vast. They say that when he was a baby, he popped a dragon's head clean off of its shoulders." I stated.

"And you believed that?" The queen asked.

"Yes I did." I replied. "We used to be so close when I was little but then suddenly, pushed me away." I said sadly.

"He pushed you away?" The king asked me while the queen placed her hands on her mouth

"Yes." I replied.

"What kind of father would do that to his own child?" The queen gasped.

"Well, the reason of that is because I reminded him of my mother." I said while looking down.

"What happened to her?" The queen asked.

"She was taken by a dragon when I was a baby, which caused my father to hate dragons and I think me so much. I never knew her." I said sadly.

"We're so sorry." The queen apologized when she heard what happened to my mother.

"Thank you. Anyway, instead of looking after me, he stuck me under his friend who is the village blacksmith named Gobber, and I worked as his apprentice. My father wouldn't acknowledge me unless I did something wrong. He wouldn't let me clean up my mess, he would just send me home and clean up my own mess instead. He saw me as his own embarrassment and disappointment. I was picked on, teased, beaten, and hated by everyone there for the last fifteen years and he wouldn't do anything about it. Instead of looking after me, he would be busy trying to find the dragon's nest. I was known as Hiccup the Useless over there. I tried to fit in by testing out the inventions that I've made." I explained to them.

"Inventions?" The king questioned.

"Yeah, I've built a lot of inventions but everytime I test them out, they would either fail or backfired and cause more damage to the village. They wouldn't let me fix them. Instead, they would just shut it down. A few days ago, the latest invention that I've built was a bola launcher." I stated to the king who looked surprised.

"You built a bola launcher?" The king questioned.

"Yes and with it, I manage to shoot down the most dangerous dragon. A Night Fury." I said.

"Night Fury?" The queen questioned.

"Yes. The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself." I stated which made the king and queen a little nervous about the dragon. "After I shot it down, I told my father and the whole village about it but they didn't believe me. After he sent me home, I snuck out and went to go find it in the woods. When I found him, I was about to kill him but... I couldn't." I said as I remembered that day.

"What do you mean?" The king asked.

"I wouldn't kill him... because he looked as frighten as I was. I looked at him... and I saw myself. So instead, I let him go... and when I did, he pounced on me. I thought he was going to kill me but instead... he spared my life." I said to the king and queen who looked shocked. "And that's how I met Toothless." I stated.

"Wait. So the dragon you flew on is the same dragon you refused to kill?" The queen asked.

"Yes." I Replied.

"So why did you named him Toothless?" The queen asked curiously.

"I'm getting to that part soon." I said. "As I was saying, when I returned home, I was put into dragon training by my father. I told him that I didn't want to kill dragons but he wouldn't listen." I said to them.

"Dragon training?" The king asked before I sighed.

"Dragon training is where kids who are old enough will be trained to fight and... kill dragons." I said while looking down. "Anyway, when I failed on the first day of training, my mentor, Gobber said that a dragon always goes for the kill and it made me think why Toothless didn't kill me. When I went to look for him again, I found him in a hidden cove, trying to fly out to escape but he couldn't because his left tailfin was gone and it made me think that he was born without it. After I failed again on the second day of dragon training, I went back to the cove with a fish for Toothless and when I offered him it, he showed me that he was literally toothless which is why I named him Toothless. But it turns out that he actually had retractable teeth and when he ate the fish, he offered me some." I said as I chuckled a little bit.

"What do you mean?" The queen asked curiously.

"Well, he... regurgitated half of the fish on my lap and sat down, waiting for me to eat it and I had no choice but to... take a bite out of it. After that, I smiled at him and what he did made me amazed." I stated.

"What did he... do?" The king asked me carefully.

"Toothless... mimicked me by making a gummy smile." I said as I smiled at the memory. "After he did that, I reached my hand out to him but he saw it as a sign of aggression and moved away from me. Later that day, he saw me drawing him in the dirt and..." I said before I couldn't finish my sentence.

"What happened next?" The queen asked.

"He... started drawing random lines with a large branch in his mouth. It got me so shocked that I didn't realized that I stepped on one of the lines and Toothless growled at me for it. I carefully lifted my foot off and he stopped growling. I did it a couple of times and he did the same thing until I stepped over the line, he didn't growl. It made me realize that he was sensitive about his work. So I carefully walked over the lines until my back was against Toothless. When we were face to face with each other, I reached my hand out to him again, he growled at it like a warning so I turned my head, closed my eyes, and held my hand out to him. He saw this as a sign of trust and he realized that I was different from the other vikings. So he did something that I would never forget. He placed his snout on my hand like he was saying that he trusted me. It also made me realize that he was also different and was misunderstood." I said to the king and queen who were shocked again.
