Romantic Flight

Normal POV

Not long after breakfast, Hiccup and the royal family were walking to the stables where Toothless was resting. Elsa had asked Hiccup what his dragon eats and he told her that he eats only fish and not humans like in fairytales. Elsa was actually nervous about meeting a real dragon but whenever she looks to see Hiccup explaining about Toothless, it makes her feel not only at ease but also happy whenever she was listens to the boy. When they arrived at the stables, Elsa could see a large four legged black scaly creature with bat like wings, black spines, green eyes, a right tailfin, and a saddle laying down in the stables.

"Toothless!" Hiccup called out. Toothless looked up from his spot before rushing over to Hiccup in happiness with his tongue out of his mouth and started jumping and bouncing around to get him to scratch his scales. The boy just laughed at his friend and did what he asked with a big smile on his face. Elsa was shocked to see an actual dragon and she saw that the large reptile was acting like a puppy instead of an aggressive beast. While Toothless was happy to see to his human again, he then spotted the royal family and happily ran over to them.

"Hi Toothless!" Anna exclaimed as she was happy to see the adorable dragon again. She and her parents laughed at the silly dragon and went over to give him all the attention he wanted while Elsa just stayed and watched. Toothless then suddenly had his eyes fixed on Elsa and cocked his head at her.

"Uh Hiccup, why is he looking at me like that?" She asked the boy.

"I think he's just curious about you." Hiccup said as walked over to the dragon. "Toothless, this is Elsa. Elsa, Toothless." He said while introducing the two. Toothless then started sniffing Elsa before he gave her a gummy smile. Elsa giggled at what the dragon did and Hiccup smiled when he saw the princess laughing at his best friend. "Would you like to pet him?" Hiccup asked her. Elsa was taken back by what he said.

"I-I don't think think that's a good idea." She stated. She didn't want to refuse the offer but she did it anyway just for the safety of the innocent dragon.

"It's okay. I promise he won't hurt you." HIccup reasured to her. "Here. Give me your hand." He said to Elsa as he held out his hand to her. Elsa stared at Hiccup's hand for a moment before she stared at her's then looking back at his. Elsa then placed her gloved hand on his.

"Okay." She said to him.

"Great. Now you have to earn his trust." Hiccup said as he moved beside her and lifted her hand with his and held her palm out to Toothless. Elsa was a little nervous and afraid. But with Hiccup by her side, she didn't feel so scared. "Its okay. Don't be afraid... now go ahead and close your eyes and turn your head to the side. You have to trust him." Hiccup instructed her while her parents and Anna watched closely.

"I-I don't know if I can do this..." Elsa said shakily.

"Elsa, I give you my word. I wouldn't let any harm come to you. You need to get him to trust you and you need to trust him." Hiccup said softly to her. She nodded shakily as she closed her eyes and turned her head slowly to the side. "Trust me..." Hiccup whispered to her as he let go of her hand. Elsa took a deep breath and the shaking stopped completely. Toothless sniffed her palm then pressed his snout against it gently. Elsa felt something warm and scaly pressed her palm and turned to see Toothless pressing his snout against her palm calmly. She was shocked and amazed by this.

"W-wow." She said out loud.

"I know right." Hiccup said to her. Elsa nodded and smiled as she started caressing Toothless who was rubbing his face against her's. She giggled at the dragon's affection to her. Agnarr and Iduna smiled as they watched their eldest daughter interacting with the dragon. Hiccup smiled as well as he walked over to the princess and his dragon. When he got near, he was about to place his hand Toothless's head but it landed on Elsa's when she moved it. She and Hiccup stared at each other for a moment before they started laughed but stopped and continued to stare while smiling and blushing knowing that this was the start of a new friendship.

- One month later -

It's been a month since their initial meeting. It was now the middle of November and both Hiccup and Elsa had indeed beccame the best of friends. Overall, everyone was happy and it showed wherever they went. Elsa and Anna still had separate rooms and the gates were still locked to outsiders but that was due to the cautiousness of the situation. Hiccup's arrival in the kingdom made everything better, he learned so many new things and adjusted quickly. The first few weeks after Hiccup and Elsa met, the change was easy to see. Both Hiccup and Elsa were happy. The whole family and kingdom were happy too. Hiccup had also moved in to the castle now too.

It happened a week after arriving to Arendelle where he decided he didn't want to sleep in the stables anymore so he now slept in a room that looked over the stables so he could see Toothless and vice versa. Elsa had her relationship back with her sister. The two were catching up and Elsa's powers were always under control. They never spiked, sparked, or activated. She still wore her gloves just in case. Hiccup manage to fix Toothless's tail too, which Elsa oddly enough loved. To her it was incredible that a boy the same age as her knew how to work with such things. She also manage to see all of his drawings and she was impressed by his art work.

Hiccup manage to ditch his viking attire and decided to wear what a prince should. He took up princely lessons to take up his spare time when Elsa and Anna were taking theirs. The cloths Hiccup now wore were dark green dress pants with black formal shoes that had laces. In addition, he wore a jacket the was similar to the king's but was green without tassels and had a purple sash that had a black Night Fury symbol on it. He wore a black belt with a purple belt buckle. Under the jacket was a white long sleeve with a purple button up vest over it. There was also some pins on the sash and the outer coat which meant that Hiccup was royalty. Yes, he cleaned up nicely for a viking turned royal. The best part about his new suit is that it was equipped to handle flying on Toothless without any problems.

If Hiccup wasn't in lessons, he would work in the blacksmith's stall, helping others. He would let Toothless come with him and shockingly no one in the kingdom minded that there was a dragon among them. They were shocked at first but when Hiccup them about Toothless, they relaxed knowing that the dragon was friendly. Children would often come over to Toothless to play and Hiccup was okay with that.

Right now, Hiccup was with the royal family as they were getting a new painting of them being made and they wanted Hiccup to be in it with them. Toothless himself wanted to be in the picture and they thought that it wouldn't hurt to let the dragon be in the picture too. Hiccup, Elsa, and Anna were sitting in chairs while Agnarr and Iduna stood behind them. Hiccup was sitting next to Elsa and Agnarr stood behind with his hands rested on the shoulders of both his daughter and the dragon rider while Iduna stood behind Anna with her hands resting on her shoulders. Toothless was in the way back since he was the biggest. They were all being still and smiling for the painter to make the painting without any issues or errors. This was new for Hiccup and this was the very first painting he would be in, along with Toothless as well. It took four hours for the painter to finish and it was almost night. When he was told that it was done, Hiccup instantly stood up and began to stretch while Toothless did the same. After he was done, he sat back down with his eyes closed and his head tilted to the sky as Toothless laid down next to him. He then felt a shadow over him as he opened an eye to see Elsa standing there.

"Hey Elsa." Hiccup said as he smiled at her.

"Hello Hiccup." Elsa replied with a smile of her own. "I was wondering if you would like to take a walk with me in the gardens?" She asked lightly.

"Sure. You good here, bud?" He asked Toothless who replied with a croon.

"Actually, I was wondering... that you would... take me on a flight with him? I always watch you fly with him and... I realize that I have never done it, even when you offered... Forgive my curiousness." She said bashfully to him.

"Well, it's time for Toothless to go on his evening flight anyway but you should ask your parents first. Just in case." Hiccup replied. Elsa went over to her parents to ask for their permission.

"Mother, father. Would it be okay if... Hiccup took me on a flight?" Elsa asked gently.

"I guess it wouldn't hurt if you do." Iduna replied while Agnarr agreed with a nod. Elsa then went back over to Hiccup and Toothless.

"They said yes." She told him.

"Great. Let me check the stirrups first." Hiccup told her as jumped onto the saddle and locked his legs on the stirrups. He pressed the pedal down a few times to check if it was moving properly. After he was done, he then offered his hand to Elsa. She took it and climbed up before sitting down behind him. "Just tuck your legs in and mind his wings." He told her. She did want he said and wrapped her arms around his waist while blushing a deep crimson color. "You ready?" He asked her.

"I'm ready. Plus, I'm a little nervous." She replied while still blushing.

"Okay then, we'll do this nice and slow." Hiccup said to her before looking at Toothless. "You hear that bud? Nice and slow." He said as the dragon folded out his wings. But little did they, Toothless had a smug look on his face. As soon as Hiccup pressed down on the pedal and strapped himself into the saddle, Toothless suddenly took off at high speed which caused both Hiccup and Elsa to yelp. Elsa started screaming as she let go of Hiccup's waist and tried to grab on again. "Toothless! What is wrong with you!? Bad dragon!" Hiccup said to Toothless. As the dragon slowed down a little, Elsa immediately wrapped her arms around Hiccup's waist while frightened. "He's uh, not usually like this." Hiccup laughed nervously before Toothless started diving towards the water. "Oh no." He said as Elsa started screaming again. Toothless crashed through the water before jumping out. "Toothless, what are you doing? This is supposed to be nice and slow." Hiccup scolded the dragon. Toothless then started to spin around at high speed in the air. "And now the spinng. Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile." Hiccup sighed with sarcasm. The dragon then started falling while still spinning.

"Make him stop! I don't want to ride him him anymore!" Elsa cried, having her head buried into Hiccup's back.

Toothless glanced back at the two humans and met Hiccup's worried stare. Elsa was clinging onto him, shaking and it was obvious that she was scared of the dragon's action. Toothless then sighed to himself and spread out his wings, allowing the wind to catch him again, causing Elsa to let out a small, frightened yelp. He felt Hiccup relax slightly as he glided upwards, the setting sun tinting the clouds pink. He then flew higher, up through the clouds, marveling at the beauty of the sight.

Elsa slowly opened her eyes and let out a small gasp when she started to look around in awe. She slowly let go of Hiccup's waist placed her hands on his shoulders. Elsa looked at the clouds above them before reaching her hand out to run it through the clouds. She then smiled and giggled before reaching both arms through the clouds. Hiccup noticed this and smiled to himself. Toothless then soared hogher, performing a small loop through the clouds. As he leveled out and flew straight once more, night began to fall and an Aurora Borealis lit up the night sky. Elsa stared in awe and amazement at the lights as she placed her hand on Hiccup's waist which caused him to blush. As they flew over a few more clouds, the kingdom of Arendelle became visible for them to see. Elsa stared as the lights in the kingdom lit up making it look more beautiful. The dragon glanced from the corner of his eye to look back at the humans and saw Elsa's opened mouth slowly curved into a huge smile as she stared down at her kingdom. Elsa then snaked her arms around Hiccup's waist and rested her head on his shoulder. Hiccup froze for a moment before an absolutely delighted expression came over his face while blushing. HIccup was starting to have new feelings for her while spending time with her. He got these new feelings from being so close to Elsa, he was crushing on her. He knew these feelings too well because he used to have a crush on Astrid but that would never happen since she acted like he was invisible to her like the rest of the village did. But these feelings for Elsa felt stronger, better and better. He liked her alot but he was afraid that she would ignore him like Astrid did. But little did he know, Elsa is having the same feelings for him as well.

Elsa didn't believed in love at first but when she first met Hiccup, she was having these weird feelings that she never had before and didn't understand it. When she told her parents about these feelings, Elsa was shocked when they told her that she was falling in love with the former viking. Elsa didn't want to believe it but as she spent more time being around him, she realised that she was indeed falling in love and for the first time ever, she accepted it. She was happy, safe, content, and in complete control of herself when she was around him. She liked Hiccup a lot. He was kind, smart, and understanding. He saw things differently then others. Her feelings for him turned into a crush. She liked being around him alot but she wondered if he'd still be around her if he knew about her magic. She had to tell him eventually before anything else can happen. As Toothless continued to glide, he beat his wings harder and took off higher into the sky, moving into an area which was bothered by fewer clouds.

"Alright. I admit it... this is pretty cool. It's... amazing. He's amazing." Elsa said as she gently placed her hand on Toothless who purred in delight. "I can see why you like it up here. It's so peaceful and it makes you feel so..." She stated before Hiccup finished her sentenced.

"Free." He finished. "You ready to head back down?" Hiccup asked her.

"Yes and when we land, can we still take that walk?" Elsa asked him softly.

"Of course. Anything for you princess." He replied, earning a dark blush from Elsa. Hiccup steered Toothless down to the ground near her parents and landed. He slid off and then helped Elsa down from the saddle. "Whenever you're ready mi'lady." Hiccup said in a formal tone as he bowed with a hand behind his back and held out his other arm to her as he stood straight from his bowing position. Elsa giggled a little as she accepted his arm with her own and they headed towards the gardens.

The king and queen smiled as they watched their daughter walking with Hiccup happily. "I still think he's the one, Agnarr. Elsa has been nothing but happy and in control since they met a month ago." Iduna mentioned softly.

"I agree, but Elsa knows nothing of his past and she hasn't revealed her magic to him yet. That will be the true test." Agnarr added.

"In time my love. In good time." Iduna smiled before she then turned serious. "But I did sense something about him that reminded me of my people." She revealed.

"The northuldra?" Agnarr asked. He remembered his wife telling him her secret, that she was actually northuldra and trusted him to keep her secret hidden and he did. "Are you saying that he could be northuldra?" He asked her.

"I don't know. Hiccup did say that he or his father doesn't know the origins of his mother so there could possibly be a chance that he is." Iduna replied. "But for now, let's just focus on finding out if he is the one that can help our daughter." She added.

"I agree." Agnarr said.

- In the gardens -

The two teens walked through the castle gardens in silence. The moon shined its light all over making everything possible to see. "I never thought I would get used to living somewhere other than my former home." Hiccup sighed with a smile.

"You know, it dawned on me just now that you've never told me about your past, Hiccup." Elsa stated softly to him.

"They aren't fond memories for me. Can you imagine being told everyday that you had to stay inside because you'd cause trouble, even if you didn't..." Hiccup mumbled a bit.

"Actually... I can. My parents separated me from Anna for seven years, never let me out of my room..." Elsa added, she had to tell him so she might use his story to her advantage to get him talking and she could make similar comparisons. She didn't like it but she needed to do it to know more about him.

"Seven years? Wow, got me beat. I spent most of my time in my house or in the forge since I was about six. Why did you get locked up in your room?" He asked her softly.

"I... I hurt my sister by accident... and my parents were afraid of it happening again so they kept me away from her. I'm surprised she doesn't hate me for staying away for seven years. My parents told her I was sick. I hated lying to her but my parents believed it was for the best. Why did you have to stay locked up?" Elsa asked now.

Hiccup shrugged. "Its kind of a long story... Viking tradition is to name the runt of the litter a hiccup. So... when I was born early, that became my name. The rest of the people in the tribe are big, burly, and look at me. A short, scrawny kid." Hiccup chuckled a bit as Elsa giggled.

"Oh come on, Hiccup. You got some muscle on you. There's nothing wrong with a lean figure." Elsa teased him.

"Yeah well, they didn't know about... all this." He gestured to himself as he did a muscular pose. "It comes from working in the smithy but... well, the village didn't like my inventions since... most of them failed, backfired, or was sabotaged and caused some damage to the village. So... I was pretty much hated there. My nickname was Hiccup the Useless. I didn't have friends growing up. Even my cousin and father hated me...but after I met Toothless. Everything changed for me. I didn't want to kill dragons, or fight them. I wanted peace but the village didn't. So when I won the big honor of killing my first dragon... I ran away. I knew I'd never be accepted so I left, and crashed here five days later. I'm so grateful that your parents gave me a home, a place where people accepted me and Toothless. It's funny, they said that I could stay for the exchange of me helping you but I don't see what you need help with." Hiccup smiled.

Elsa knew that her parents didn't tell him the reason why she needed help. So she had to tell him now or else. "It's... with what caused my sister's accident. They wanted you to... help me control something inside of me..." Elsa said as she looked down with her eyes closed.

"The only thing I see inside of you is a kind, caring, heart Elsa. You don't need my help with that." Hiccup replied.

"No... that's not it. Hiccup, the truth is... I have... powers and I... hurt Anna with them. It's the reason why she has that white streak in her hair... It's where I hit her." Elsa sighed heavily.

"I don't understand? Your parents said you were different and wanted me to help you adjust." Hiccup stated now.

"No... well yes, I am different from everyone else, but they wanted you to help me contol my powers... Anna doesn't know about them because we had someone who made her forget about it happening, she knew about it when she was five... but she doesn't anymore." Elsa said as she sat down on a stone bench.

"Well, so what. You have powers, and I ride a dragon. We're not that different." Hiccup smiled to her. "Come on, you can tell me. We're best friends after all." Hiccup smiled as he sat down with her.

"Alright... I'll show you. I just don't want you to think that I'm a monster..." Elsa replied as she looked at him softly.

"I don't think that's possible for me to do, Elsa." Hiccup said as he placed his hands on her gloved ones and she blushed a little, nodding to him as she slowly took off her gloves and then stood up with her hands together, slightly apart and moving them around in a circular motion. A snowball formed between her palms and Hiccup's eyes widened in shock and amazement. Elsa then tossed it in the air slightly as it exploded and light snow fell around them. "Wow, Elsa... this is... so cool and amazing!" Hiccup said with a big smile.

"You... You really think so?..." Elsa asked him.

"Of course I do! Look at this... You made it snow... and it's nearly winter! Why in midgard do you need help to control this? It looks fine to me." Hiccup told her happily.

"Well, it happened seven years ago. Anna woke me up to play and she always got me out of bed by asking if I wanted to build a snowman. Of course I did, so we went to the ballroom and I made it snow there, inside. We built a snowman named Olaf who liked warm hugs, we went ice skating on the floor together, then she wanted me to make tickle bumps. I made small snow peaks for her to jump on and I'd catch her before she fell. She started going too fast and I slipped, I tried to make another snow peak to catch her but I hit her head instead and she went unconscious..." Elsa began slowly as she put her gloves back on.

"And that's how she got the white streak in her hair..." Hiccup finished. "So your parents separated you two after that?" Hiccup asked gently.

"No... we rushed in to the mountains, and found these... rock trolls." Elsa said.

"Trolls?! They exist?!" Hiccup asked in shock. He tried hunting for them when his father would take him fishing when he was younger. He thought they were a myth.

"Seems like we both had our own myths we didn't believe in. We didn't believe in dragons, and your tribe didn't believe in trolls. But anyway... the trolls took Anna's memories of us playing with my magic and changed them into us playing normal in the winter time. Sledding, building snowman, and what not. The elder told me that powers would only grow. That there was great beauty and also great danger in them. I had to control them or fear would become my enemy. But he did told us something that would help me control them in the future but I think it's best that my parents told you about that part." Elsa told him.

"Okay. Go on." Hiccup said

"Anyway, when we went back to the castle, all my things had been moved to the room I have now. I was told that my powers had to stay a secret from Anna... and that's where I was for seven years until you came along and my parents started letting me out again." Elsa explained

"I don't see why... I mean, look at this... Its so peaceful and beautiful." Hiccup told her.

"My father told me that the gates would stay locked, the staff would be reduced, and we would keep my powers a secret from everyone... including Anna. I'm just glad my parents change it when you came around. The times I was locked away, my father gave me these gloves and told me to conceal it, don't feel it, don't let it show. My powers were fueked by my emotions... so if I was scared they would get stronger. I got so afraid that I refused to let my parents hug me anymore... I didn't want to hurt them." Elsa smiled a bit.

"I think maybe the reason they are controlled is because that... you're happy." Hiccup suggested.

"You really think so?" Elsa asked him. She hadn't thought of that before. Was it because she was happy finally? Or that Hiccup made her happy and filled her with such confidence.

"I do. Come on, lets go talk to your parents. We can ask them why they thought that I could help, you got this all on your own. But... if I can say this. I'm glad they thought I was needed because I got to meet you and you're amazing, Elsa and I mean really, you are. You're smart, funny, and caring." Hiccup said as took hold of both of Elsa's hands. "I... like you. Just the way you are, Elsa." He admitted with a faint blush.

"I like you too, Hiccup." Elsa replied blushing back. They both stared at each others eyes for a moment before they realized they were still holding hands. The quickly let go and faced the other way while still blushing.

"We... we should go back." Hiccup said awkwardly as he got up.

"I agree." Elsa replied. Hiccup then offered his hand to her. Elsa smiled taking it as the snow around them began to stop falling. He lifted her to her feet as they walked back towards the area where they landed. Elsa's parents were still waiting there smilling when Hiccup and Elsa approached them.

"Did you two enjoy your walk?" Agnarr asked.

"We did. We were hoping to talk to you about something though... alone?" Elsa asked.

"Of course dear. Shall we talk inside or out here?" Iduna asked them.

"Wherever Anna isn't..." Elsa mentioned so her parents would understand why.

"We understand, so we take it... you told Hiccup about your powers?..." Agnarr stated. Both teens nodded while smiling. "Well, Anna is in her lessons right now so it's safe to talk here." Agnarr added.

"Perfect... We just wanted to know... well, I wanted to know what this elder troll said about Elsa's future and why you thought only I could help Elsa with her powers, controlling them at least. She just showed me them in the gardens and it was fine to me..." Hiccup asked them.

"It's quite a story, starting from when Elsa first hurt Anna seven years ago..." Iduna said sadly.

"I told him all that, but Hiccup doesn't know why you kept me locked away for seven years until he arrived here..." Elsa stated gently. The king and queen sighed heavily, knowing that it was time to tell Hiccup the truth. Agnarr and Iduna motioned for Hiccup and Elsa to sit down at the table so they could explain everything to the boy since it involved him directly. Hiccup and Elsa sat down across from her parents and waited patiently for the explanation about all this.

Author's note: I decided to make this story a little more interesting. We all know that Hiccup's mother's origin is unknown so I wanted to make her own origin that involves the Northuldra from Frozen II.
