Izuku stood at his old bedroom window looking out into the night, it was raining and occasional flashes of lightning could be seen in the distance with the accompanying thunder rolling overhead at irregular intervals. The multitude of lights of the city and what they illuminated the only things he could see. Something was coming, he could feel it. This storm marked only the beginning of what was to come, and a part of him feared what would be next. He'd heard the news during the night, and he had come here after his night's work.

He glanced over at his old closet doors, trepidation and excitement flitting about in his chest. He went to his bedside table and opened the small drawer in it, extracting a small key from it before closing it again. He went up to the closet doors and his heart started hammering in his chest as he slowly unlocked and removed the padlock from the handles. He set it aside on his desk and put his hands on the handles. He stood there for a time, building up the nerve to open it up.

There would be no going back after opening those doors. If he opened them up, he acknowledged what that would mean for him. Everything would change, and he feared what change it could bring out in him. He stood in a precarious enough position as it was, and this might just tip him over the edge.

His gaze drifted to the storm outside though and with another flash of lightning and rolling of thunder, he steeled himself. He opened the doors of the closet and let the small amount of light from his desk lamp fill the confines of it.

The light fell onto the all-black uniform within, body armor hanging from the rack, the QSU patch on the shoulder, the assault rifle leaning against the wall, and the Glock holstered in the belt hanging from the rack. The ammunition rounds stacked neatly in the far right corner, along with his old tactical gear, the 3 smoke grenades, a single rubber ball grenade, and his breaching equipment all laid out along the floor in various marked containers.

The sight reminded him of his past, of what he failed to become and had become. Never did he think he would need it again, never did he think he would open these doors mere years after locking them up. Old memories, sounds, and sensations filled him. He pulled the Glock out of its holster and went to his desk. He set it down and just stared at it for a few solid minutes, before finally starting to take it apart.

The barracks Izuku would be staying at for the next two years, was just as he had expected it to look like. It wasSpartan, white walls, rough carpeting, a desk, dresser, and a bed. It wasn't all bad, despite the bareness of the room, it did have some books that were rather interesting. All the recruits were required to read them within a certain time frame, and would be directly linked to content they would experience in training and in classes. The classes were surprising to Izuku in particular, despite this being a facility to train paramilitary personal, it had various classes to ensure that recruits would be as knowledgeable as possible when they left.

At the moment Izuku was sitting at his desk within his quarters at the QSU training compound. He had just been accepted into the recruit training program, been given his quarters, and told to wait until someone came to round him and the other recruits up for a meeting. He'd already been through a couple already leading up to this point, but Izuku expected this meeting was going to be a bit more important than the others so far. While he waited he decided to start reading the small book that discussed many of the details about the QSU and its function within Quirk society. It was actually a compilation of two different books, one dealing with the evolution of law enforcement after the birth of Quirks, and another that was essentially a manual discussing the QSU specifically. It was a fascinating read, and it had started to give Izuku a new appreciation for the QSU and for groups similar to it across the world.

The QSU came about twenty or so years after the birth of quirks, following a trend of other nations to create new or re-organize existing tactical law enforcement teams dedicated to fighting individuals with quirks. The Hero Association had not yet been created, so law enforcement fell to police officers, or the military in cases of highly dangerous individuals with quirks. America and Germany were the first nations to re-organize SWAT and GSG9 respectively to be able to fight against the growing number of people with quirks who were trickling into criminal organizations. Along with its re-organization, SWAT and GSG9 were given permission to train their members with quirks to use them in the field. This practice persisted to the present day with Heroes, special law enforcement groups, and specialized military groups being the only people allowed to use their quirks in public. This started a new trend among the world to do similar things in their law enforcement organizations and military. Until the formation of the Hero Association roughly 30 years after the birth of quirks, they were the only groups who were able to adequately combat villains in the early years.

In Japan, the QSU came about after the birth of Heroes to act as support to both heroes and police. Despite their role in combating Quirk-related crime, many of the accomplishments of the QSU were given to the hero(s) who were on the scene, if any were present that is. This was done to keep them out of the media as much as possible and to make them as unknown as possible. Izuku had to admit it was effective, he had never given a thought to the people aiding heroes in their accomplishments. Until more recently he had never even heard of QSU, but this worked to the organization's advantage. Being relatively unknown allowed them to get the drop on villains and criminal organizations who would be expecting a Hero to meet them, not a trained squad of specialized law enforcement officers trained to fight quirks.

Just then there was a knock on the door, Izuku looked at the clock and was surprised to see he had been reading for an hour already, but he quickly set the book down and went to open the door. A man in a QSU uniform, wearing glasses, and with neatly cut side-part stood on the other side.

"You're Izuku Midoriya?" he asked.

"Yes sir." Said Izuku straightening slightly.

"You're to report to Gunsō Arinobu in the command center, room 33." He said shortly before leaving.

Izuku ducked back into his room, grabbed his phone, wallet, a small notepad he could fit into his pocket, and a pencil before heading out. He'd made sure to memorize the layout of the entire area ahead of time, but it took him a few minutes to find the room he needed. The door was open when he got there and he walked into a room that looked like a very sparse version of a classroom from a university. There were a couple of people already present, about five after he did a quick count. Most were sitting in seats alone, but two were talking to each other already. Not knowing any of them Izuku went and sat at one of the front most seats, while they all waited for everyone else to arrive.

It took about another five minutes, but eventually, it seemed everyone had arrived and had chosen seats. There were about fifteen or so seats, but only ten people in the room. After another five minutes had passed it became clear there would be no one else, and shortly after that the same person who told Izuku to come to the room came in. The man closed the door behind him and went to the front of the room and stood by the desk.

"My name is Gunsō Arinobu, and I will be overseeing your general training for the next two years," he said. Then he reached to the desk and grabbed a small stack of papers, he then went around and passed one out to everyone. When he was done he went back to the front and put the papers back.

"Before you begin your training, however, we must first assign you to a section where you undergo more specific training to fit your future role with the QSU. Each QSU Team consists of a Command section, an Entry section, a Sniper Support section, and a Technical Support section. From there you will be formed into small squads consisting of twelve people usually, where you likely remain for the rest of your service. Your team members will be your brothers and sisters, you will be called upon fight some of the most dangerous individuals in the country. You will assist heroes and regular law enforcement in their efforts to subdue criminal elements, you will never be thanked for this work, few will remember you, and even fewer will know of what you have done. Surprise and anonymity are some of our strongest weapons in the fight against villains." He said, looking around at them all.

"The papers I have given are forums for you to fill out and return to me. While we will take into consideration what section you want to be a part of, but ultimately we will put you where ever we think your talents will prove most useful. While each section is given some basic understanding and training of the other sections, ultimately you will each be a highly specialized role."

Izuku looked down at the forum in front of him and started to mull over his choices. He was never what you might call 'leader material' so he decided against the command section. Sniper was something he gave more thought to, but it just didn't feel right to him, so he crossed that off his mental list. That left Entry and Technical Support as his main picks. Technical support was tempting, a part of him didn't want to be a part of the sections that deal most heavily with combat. The idea of not fighting though also felt wrong to him, All Might died fighting the strongest villain ever seen, how could Izuku do any less? In the end, he put himself down for Entry and filled out the rest of the forums more miscellaneous details. After he had turned it in, Gunsō Arinobu told him to head to the dojo and wait for him there.

Izuku left feeling slightly confused and concerned, no one else had been told to leave after all. His trepidation increased further when he saw a small group of about 4 other people, one of them was similar to Izuku in age. The other two however were definitely older than him by a few years, probably in their early 20's he guessed and they were already talking casually to each other while younger was standing awkwardly alone. Izuku approached the younger individual and realized that it was a girl with short black hair, it had been hard to tell at a distance.

"You were sent out too?" asked the girl as he approached.

"Y-Yeah, do you know why?" he asked with a slight stutter.

She shook her head, "No idea, I was just told to come out here after I turned in my forum to the instructor."

"Same here." He replied, his nervousness of talking to the girl fading as his nervousness about what was happening overtook it.

"Those two seem to be pretty calm, looks like they already know what might be happening," she said glancing over to the other two older individuals.

Izuku gave the other two a more appraising look over at that. They seemed normal enough, talking and joking with each other as they all waited, so he ruled them out as trouble makers or something equally unruly. They each wore a QSU cadet uniform, so they had been in training for at least a year so far.

"I don't think we need to worry about being kicked out, if those two were problem makers then they would have been weeded out in the first year of training. So we're out here for something completely unrelated to that I think." Izuku began muttering under his breath as he started rattling off a string of possible reasons. Then he stopped abruptly and looked at the girl next to him, feeling himself go red with embarrassment.

"S-Sorry, I have a bad habit of muttering a lot when I'm thinking. I'm Izuku Midoriya by the way." He said, introducing himself and giving a slight bow.

"No worries, I'm Ahmya," she replied giving a bow in turn.

She was about to say more when they spotted Gunsō Arinobu heading toward them. They turned to face him and straightened. When he came up to the group, he turned to the older two and said, "Sōchō Shinsaku"

The two seemed to understand what was meant by just the name, and promptly left. Then Arinobu turned to them, "At ease, you are not in any trouble. You two have been singled out because you both have prior training in law enforcement. So I will be conducting a series of preliminary tests to check your aptitude for squad leader positions."

Izuku felt a small bead of sweat trickle down the back of his neck, and his mouth had gone dry. He had a distinct feeling that these tests would mean he would wake up sore the next morning.

Several hours later, Izuku was sitting along the dojo wall, both mentally and physically tired. Despite his state though, he felt good. The challenges and tests had been broad in scope and at times nonsensical, but he felt that he had put up a good performance throughout it all. Ahyma meanwhile looked equally tired but had the hint of a smile at the corners of her mouth. Gunsō Arinobu had been making notes the entire time, and Izuku wondered what they would say. Then Gunsō Arinobu's pen stopped moving and he looked up at them.

"On your feet, your final test is a spar between the two of you. You will both fight until one concedes or until I say so," he said briskly.

Izuku and Ahyma got to their feet, then positioned themselves facing each other. They both bowed, then got into their respective combat stances.

"Begin." barked out Gunsō Arinobu.

The two of them started to tentatively feel each other out. Izuku was in a standard CQC stance, with one hand open extended in front of him with the other closer to his chest while hunched over some. Ahyma exhibited a style he was unfamiliar with, she kept both hands in front of her while hunched over and knees bent. She looked like she might try for a tackle any second. They circled each other, letting out small jabs for a bit before Izuku took one step too far forward and she pounced. She was on him in a flash and it was all he could do to keep her hands and arms away from him. He managed to land a few light blows, but eventually, she managed to get a grip on his shirt and then stepped into him and grabbed his waist. Instead of letting her dictate the pace, however, he fell backward and pulled her on top of him, and continued his fall into a backward roll. Not expecting Izuku to initiate the fall himself, Ahyma was caught off-guard as Izuku pulled her down and then over him. She countered this by locking one leg around his and attempting to pin one arm to her chest. Instead of rolling backward, they were now sideways on the ground with both them grappling the other and attempting to find whatever solid grip they could without jeopardizing their current state. Izuku slipped up first, as he went to leverage himself on top of her by pushing with one leg on the floor, his foot slipped and he hit the floor. Ahyma seized the chance and proceeded to break his grip on her and pin his second leg, then she flipped around, and in a burst of lithe athleticism contorted herself around on top of him and locked his head and left arm between her own legs, with his right arm pinned across her chest.

Izuku was immobilized, and so yielded the fight to her. She released him and they slowly got up from the floor. Both thoroughly exhausted and now with Izuku having a sore left arm.

As they panted, Izuku turned to face Ahyma and asked, "That was incredible, I've never seen that style of fighting before, what is it?"

She grinned and replied, "Brazilian Ji Jitsu, it's not very common here in Japan but my uncle married an American Army Ranger who was taught the style as part of her training. They moved over here about a decade ago, she teaches English now, but when she heard of my intention to join law enforcement she asked if I would be interested to learn. I've studied and practiced for a few years now."

Izuku was thoroughly interested, "Do you think you could teach me?"

"I don't see why not," she replied.

"Good work, I have a good grasp of both your physical strength and weaknesses. I'll be forming a training regimen for both of you to focus on your strengths but shore up your weaknesses. Izuku, while you have a solid base in general combat and technique, you lack specific focus. Ahmya your skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is excellent, but you lack any other form of melee combat ability. Izuku, your suggestion that you learn from Aymha is an excellent one and you should in turn teach Ahyma what you know of CQC and Judo. When you have both reached the extent of what you can teach the other, we will take over. Dismissed" said Gunsō Arinobu, and he turned and walked out of the dojo.

With that, Izuku and Ahmya headed out of the Dojo after putting everything away. By the time Izuku got back to his quarters, he was dead tired but satisfied with how things had gone.
