Disclaimer: I don't own the world of Pern.
This is a bit that follows up the two verses of song which Menolly writes during the book Dragonsinger in response to the cry "Don't leave me alone!" that Brekke sends out to Canth and F'nor.
For loved ones departed
to find the mystery
of Thread's threat to us
no mater what rank we be.
-
For lasting peace
into danger unknown
with no chance to dissuade them;
all the risks were well known.
-
Later would they cry
"We should have foreseen!"
Yet how could they have known
this blaze could have been.
-
Tossed and seared
in a billowing fire
Canth and F'nor
felt the planet's ire.
-
"They must not come!"
was their only thought
and in black between
they knew naught.
-
With the cry of one loved
both far and nigh
all dragons to catch them
rose, filling the sky.
-
The battle against Thread
rages strongest for those:
all who for their world
against all odds rose.
-
"Don't leave me alone!";
the cry rings throughout Pern
reminding of those heroes
whom other might spurn.
