The sun rose to begin another day. Nasuada groaned. She was not a morning person, and the day after battle was not fun for anyone. Putting a cloak on over her sleeping clothes and covering her head, she walked out of the tent. She wanted to remain unseen until she could find Argetlam once more.

Fortunately, she did not have to look too far. From a small distance ahead, she heard the cries of "Argetlam the savior!" echoing from each soldier's mouth. He saw him walking, seeming proud of himself. From the way he looked, you would guess he was a happy man except for his eyes. His eyes had a certain sadness and wisdom. They were so familiar to Nasuada…just like Murtagh. She felt the tears that had haunted her the previous day threatening to break loose as Argetlam came.

"My lady, do you have any orders?" asked Argetlam. He was oblivious to her feelings, but Nasuada felt that she could talk to him.

"I wish to speak to you in my tent, Argetlam. Follow me." Silently, Nasuada led him back to her tent. He held the flap open, waiting for her to walk in. She met eyes with him, silently thanking him for his kindness.

"I have a question for you, Argetlam. How do you know when you are in love?" Nasuada watched as Argetlam smiled, looking somewhat confused.

"How do you not know when you are in love, my lady? Love is when you see someone and do not want to take your eyes off of them. It is not because you are suspicious of their actions, but you just want to know. Being around them makes you feel as if you are whole, and separation hurts you.

"I am in love, my lady. I am in love, but will never be returned. She thinks of another who is long gone. She is the most beautiful of all I have seen ever. Yet when I tell her, she scorns me and turns me away. I am only human, and she the princess of elves. I wish I could be around her more." Argetlam's face drifted into a dreamlike state.

"I am rambling, my lady, and I apologize. Why is this information necessary?" Nasuada did not answer for a moment. She seemed to have not heard the question.

"So it was love," she said softly, "But it is all lost, is it not?" Nasuada suddenly saw Argetlam tense up, looking rather angry.

"Has someone hurt you, my lady? I will take care of them. Just you watch. Name me that person and I will swear upon Saphira that I will kill them!" Nasuada could do nothing but shake her head sadly.

"You already said you would kill him," she said, hoping that he might get the hint. He looked rather confused.

"Do you love Galbatorix?" he asked, sounded surprised. Nasuada laughed bitterly.

"Galbatorix is the reason why he left," Nasuada said, wondering if the oblivious Rider would get the hint. Apparently, she was right. Eragon embraced her.

"Do not worry, Nasuada," he whispered in her ear, "You just need to let go of the memories. Break free of Murtagh's spell, the dirty traitor." Nasuada looked into Eragon's eyes. She realized that he, too, must be suffering from the knowledge that his brother was a traitor. She felt the tears run down her face onto Eragon's caring shoulder as he held her tightly. She knew what love was, and she knew friendship. Nasuada only wished she had known it all before.
