Do You Love Me?

Disclaimer: Don't Own, don't sue.

A/N: My last oneshot did fairly well so I thought another one would be good. Title and some of the lines comes from the Fiddler on the Roof song. We did that play last year for school and the song stuck. I know it's short, but deal.

Kate walked along the beach and kicked a shell into the crashing waves of the ocean. The salty sea air filled her nostrils as she studied the stained dusk sky and the sinking sun. In the back of her mind she knew that they would never get rescued, never be able go back to what it used to be. She was relieved. She didn't want that. She didn't want to back to the world where running was all she did. She was a thief, a liar, and a murderer. And she regretted it all. She knew her past was nothing, that now she could start a new life. A better life. Without running, or lying. But that was all she knew. Her whole life was made up of anger, sadness and pain.

Sawyer sat in the jungle, reflecting on what had happened. The sky seemed to be bleeding oranges and reds. His conscious told him to give up. Just stop hoping. There was no hope for rescue after more than fifty days. If he gave up there would be nothing to lose. His life before was made up of cheating and lying. Nothing more. He felt like this island was a whole other world to him. The other castaways didn't get it. This place had changed his outlook on life. It seemed better. He didn't want to go back to the way things were. He felt a presence. Someone was behind him. He turned, and saw a silhouette. A dark shadow of a woman. It moved, and he followed it to a remote cave. A waterfall poured down a hundred feet and fallen trees were covered in moss. It was something out of a fairytale.

Kate sat on a tree stump in the light, revealing herself to the only one she trusted. The only one who she could relate to. Her throat was as dry as dust, but she spoke up after what seemed like an eternity.

"Do you love me?"

"Do I what?"

"Do you love me?" Kate hesitated, waiting for an answer. Sawyer had let his guard down for a split second, and let his emotions get to him. The ones he rarely showed to anyone. A lump formed in his throat and he struggled to speak.

"Why are you doin' this to me, Freckles?" He said with a hint of desperation in his voice.

"Just tell me, do you love me? I need to know. Please."

"I… I just… yea. Happy now? I love you and now you know it. Now go flaunt it in front of Doc," Kate grinned at Sawyer's snide remarks. She put her hands on top of his. He drew closer and pressed their bodies together.

"I knew it," Kate said just before she was cut off by Sawyer's mouth meeting hers.

"Kate!? Where are you?" Jack yelled into the jungle. He heard leaves ruffling up ahead. His heart raced as he hurried toward the source of the sound. As he pulled away a branch, he saw a sight that he had been fearing. Kate and Sawyer, together. They were kissing on the ground. His hopes fell. He loved her and he knew it. She knew it too. He had been too harsh on her. Sawyer was always gently flirting with her and she flirted back. They were together now. Together, and Jack was a third wheel. Jack had no one. No one to love.
