CHAPTER 3

As the night progressed, such a task would be impossible if he hadn't had his natural feline night vision, but unlike the typical feline, his was far more advanced considering his alien origins, being able to see silhouettes and shadows a lot more easily. He crept through the forest at a medium pace, trying to be careful where he stepped so he wouldn't make any noise. It had been a few minutes, and at this point he'd been almost half way through the forest, but he didn't lose hope and kept going. The sky had turned from a pink and orange sunset to a darkening blue color, getting darker as the sun continued to set.

Suddenly, he spotted something. A very familiar looking silhouette, with unmistakable head appendages and a tooth bearing from the other end of them. Sammy had been in hiding, hiding from the actions he'd made and the things he'd said. He didn't want to fix himself, he didn't feel the need to, he only wanted to hide from the consequences of his actions and isolate himself from other people for the time being. Such an act however was only leading himself prone to being dealt with personally from the heart, and cue Nerv, whose actions speak louder than words, his choice of action being his finger on the trigger pointed at Sammy.

Nerv knew it was time. He hid behind a bush himself and aimed the shotgun right at him and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately for Nerv, his shot hit the tree behind Sammy, and the moment had turned into a mad dash through the forest.

Sammy had no idea what he'd been running from, but he only know that if he didn't stop, it would eventually kill him. Thankfully for Nerv, even if he didn't have alien night vision powers, the bongo sound of Sammy's running feet made a good indication to follow for where he was.

Nerv didn't know how many bullets the gun had, so he attempted to throw rocks at him as they ran. Eventually, Sammy came to a ravine and had to stop in his tracks. He cowered in fear, dirty from sitting behind a bush for hours, and looked into the distance as to who might have been trying to shoot him. "Please! Please don't hurt me, I beg you! Whoever you are!" He pleaded with tears in his eyes. He would soon turn to a state of disbelief as he watched Nerv lug along the shotgun towards him. "N..Nerv?" He said in a confused but terrified state.

"Yeah," Nerv held the shotgun in front of him, "You're a sick old dog man, and I'm here to put you down."

Sammy's fear turned into a disorderly state of anger that overtook whatever critical thinking skills he had at that moment and lunged and Nerv, trying to grab the shotgun from his paws. With all his might, Nerv managed to push Sammy into the shallow ravine rear first. The cool water for a moment ran over his fingers and soaked into his clothes and shoes, just before his fate was met as he looked into the double barrel of the shotgun, and before he could get a single scream out, Nerv shot him in the stomach and left him to die in the ravine.

Maggie and Dez heard the echoed shot from their mobile home, and Dez couldn't help but contemplate everything as Maggie sobbed into her arms.
