CHAPTER 7

Early Friday morning came and Nerv made his way over to the docks as soon as he could. He needed to meet Spud Razor, a war veteran who spent most of his time hosting whale watching tours, to borrow his harpoon gun before Sammy could get it. Unfortunately this wasn't going to be an easy task.

"Hey man," Nerv greeted Spud, "Hope you don't mind if I borrow your harpoon gun for something!" He looked at him with innocent, pleading eyes and a wide toothy grin.

Spud, like mostly everybody in the town, heard about what Nerv did the other day, so he looked at him very speculatively, as he tended to, though he'd been questionable about Nerv's intent with such an item he held dear.

"Look cat, I drive a hard bargain," Spud told Nerv, "I get charged 20 bucks an hour for this job. If you can bring me 50 dollars I can lend you the harpoon, but you need to bring it back before sundown or you won't like the consequences."

"Aye aye captain!" Nerv confidently responded, though as he made his way back down the street, he thought to himself: "Aw crap. I need money."

Nerv decided to turn to the one person he typically knew had a lot of money.

"You're back AGAIN?" Rodney had still been in his pyjamas when he answered the door.

Nerv stared at him, "I need money."

"Well I'm certainly no charity! So how about you just-" Suddenly, Rodney had remembered what Nerv had been accused of the other day, and his eyes widened. Rodney then smugly looked at Nerv. He pat him on the head and said "Ohoho Nerv, how I underestimated you. Seems my Winchester really aided you well! Just the sort of thing I always fantasized myself doing at times.. Heh. Taking that into account, I pretty much owe you money! How much do you need, Nerv?"

"50 dollars."

Rodney pulled 50 dollars out of his own pocket. "Here you go, you spectacular fiend!" He handed the cash to Nerv.

Nerv's eyes lit up and he took it in delight, "THANKS!" He exclaimed, and made his way back to the docks.

Rodney waved him goodbye, but as he went back inside, he contemplated how he used to feel about Sammy before he witnessed how awful his values had been. Sammy had always been naturally sort of a rival to him, and he always had the urge to playfully mock him and consider him things like a "peasant", but soon enough, he came to actually distinguish these feelings as a desire to have some sort of dominance over him, and though he made it out to be out of competition, really it was more of a personal sense, but there was no way he could have anybody know that, so to suppress anybody coming to this assumption, at times he'd hit on Sammy's wife Dez to uphold his display of straight masculinity. He should have considered before how vain Sammy had been at first by calling himself a straight male at times if anyone ever considered or joke anything homosexual about him, but because there hadn't been any blatant terrible qualities about him, Rodney continued to have his fantasies. How Sammy responded to Jacob's negligence however broke Rodney's heart on the sideline, he barely wanted anything to do with him anymore. Surely enough he began having the same ideas Nerv had shortly after it happened, but couldn't actually bring himself to do anything considering how attached he was for so long. To him, Nerv had done him a favor in a way considering he lent him the weapon, like a guardian angel saving him, eliminating a body filled with hate and a set of ideals that could potentially get Rodney himself killed had he ever said anything. It was a morning for him to sit down and consider thoroughly.

Later, Nerv returned to the docks and gave Spud the money, and sure enough, did receive the harpoon gun. But Spud had just one concern: "Aren't you gonna look suspicious walking around with that?"

"Pfsshh, nah," Nerv assured him, "I'll just put it in my back pocket, thanks again sir!" He put the harpoon gun in his mysterious back pocket and headed on his way to hide out in the forest.

Much much later that day, while Nerv had already been hiding out in the forest, Sammy sure enough showed up at the docks with a medium sized trailer behind him, berated, impatient, and ready to kill Nerv the minute he saw him. He still felt some pain from the gun wound, so this only added to his frustration.

He walked up to Spud at the docks, "You! You know me, where's your harpoon gun?!" Sammy yelled at him.

Spud, though surprised he'd even been alive, glared at Sammy, "Look lizard, there's no way I would be giving you of all people my harpoon gun, and even if I wanted to, I already gave it to someone else earlier."

"SHIT!" Sammy couldn't believe what he heard, "Somebody's onto me.. they probably know where I'm heading as well! I gotta fucking get there!"

Sammy was mad as ever. Even if he didn't have the harpoon gun, he still had his rage and his two bare hands. He got back into the truck and drove over to the forest near his house.

As Nerv was hiding, he eventually heard a vehicle drive by lugging a trailer and recognized it as one of the vehicles rented for the company, and knew this was for sure Sammy, so he immediately took to chasing after it.
