CHAPTER 8

Considering Sammy was unarmed, Nerv decided to keep the harpoon gun in his back pocket, especially since there was only one harpoon. He snuck through the forest following the vehicle and hid and watched behind a large set of bushes once it parked.

The vehicle parked next to an old shed, and out of the vehicle sure enough came Sammy, still wobbly even after his recovery. He waddled over to the trailer, unhooked the door, and began to heave multiple master reels at a time over to the shed.

Nerv leaped out from the bushes and confronted Sammy in a standoff type fashion. "You gonna give up, or are ya thirsty for more?"

Though slightly startled, Sammy just rolled his eyes, but his mood instantly changed when Nerv pulled out the harpoon gun. "Dammit! I knew it!" He exclaimed.

Nerv donned a fiendish grin on his face, when all of a sudden, Sammy loudly whistled, and without hesitation, a scarily familiar face jumped out from under a tarp in the back of the truck and grabbed a hold of Nerv, restraining him and threatening him with a knife. Nerv dropped the harpoon, and it slid towards Sammy's feet.

"THOUGHT YOU'D SEEN THE LAST OF ME, HUH?" The beige, eyepatched cat loomed over Nerv's shoulder with a haunting grin.

"HEY! You're that guy I met at the bar one time!" Nerv was amazed, yet confused and frightened, "How do you and Sammy know each other?"

"I KNOW PEOPLE WHO KNOW PEOPLE, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT." The Cat restrained him tighter, "NOW, LEMME TELL YOU THIS ONE MORE TIME BEFORE I PUT YOUR LIGHTS OUT: IT'S YOUR LIFE, MY KNIFE, OR MY WIFE."

"No, no, keep him there, I've got better plans." Sammy snickered, caressing the harpoon gun the had just picked up.

"Sammy! Sammy, you're better than this!" Nerv cried out.

"I'll be ready to die the day you're ready to admit I'm better than you!" Anger boiled through Sammy's blood as he propped up the harpoon gun into shooting position.

"Statistically, yes! That was something I was ashamed about all the way back then! But morally, no! You're terrible, sick and twisted, man! Where's your sense of self awareness?!"

Sammy almost hesitated shooting Nerv at this question, as when looking up to Jacob a majority of the time, self awareness was something he often lacked. The pleasures and pains of Jacob's life was something he got a rush being caught up in, and focusing on himself, especially now, seemed impossible.

This state of contemplation hadn't lasted long, as Sammy's blood pressure rose once again, and as the beige cat ran back to the passenger seat of the truck, Sammy shot Nerv square in the chest, impaling him and pinning him to the ground. Sammy walked over and overlooked him in silence.

Nerv coughed, and spoke his final words: "Tell my dad I loved him, and, and tell Necky to.. Take care of Maggie..."

Sammy didn't want to contemplate on his past. He threw Nerv's impaled body in the back of the truck, finished loading all the reels into the shed, and drove back to the studio.
