Chapter four:

The three of them walk and look around themselves as it is obvious that this area is the countryside somewhere but they keep going as they look for a town or city while making sure they know their way back to the others. They keep walking and a little later they finally see a town in the distance.

"There we go!" Near says. "A town! Next thing will be to find the library."

They approach the town and as soon as they get to the edge of the town people are looking at them funny as well as whispering or glaring.

"Somehow I don't think we will be getting a warm welcome." Matt says swallowing a little harshly.

"Maybe it's just because we have wings." Near says. "It might seem a little strange…."

They slow to a stop as people begin to move to slightly surround them.

The people are holding any weapon that they could find though luckily there doesn't seem to be more than two behind them. All of the people are glaring with hate and anger at them.

"What do you think you are doing here?" A male asks angrily.

"Well…. We were just heading to do some research at the library." Matt tries to explain. "Nothing bad. Promise."

"You can't trust Changelings!" A man points a pitchfork towards them. "Like we would let you do any research here! It's going to be for some evil plot isn't it?" The man begins to advance making the three start to move back. "We won't allow it." He blinks as he soon realizes something. "Wait a minute…. The changeling king….. And his right hand man…."

"Now should we run?" Matt asks in a whisper to the other two.

"It might be a good idea." Near confirms. "Go!" He spins around and begins running with Matt making sure that him and Mello are following.

They manage to dodge the two that were behind them and they dash away from the city.

"We need to find a place to hide. If they react like this to us then there's no doubt they will attack the others." Near says glancing back seeing that they are being chased.

"Split up and meet back in the area where the others are." Mello suggests an idea.

"Good idea." Near nods. "It'll be easier to hide on our own than in a group."

So Matt and Near turn off going in opposite directions with Mello going straight.

"They spilt off!" They hear a yell. "We have no choice but to do the same. Kill them all."

So now there will be less people trying to find them.

Near glances back to his wings. "Hopefully I can get them to work." He turns back trying to lose his pursuers long enough to give them the slip hopefully. He isn't sure if he knows just how to use his wings quite yet so he doesn't want to take the risk of trying now. He darts into a heavy forest area easily dodging around the trees and getting a gain against his pursers. He finally feels like they are far enough back that he slows and spreads his wings. "Here I go." He tries flapping them and accidentally flaps too hard making him soar into the air much quicker than indented almost making him spin out. He tries to take advantage of this and gets above the tree line and he glances back to see if he can see the ones chasing him but he can't due to the trees. "Okay. I think I got a good enough handle on this." He says to himself then he flaps this time lighter and manages to get higher into the air. "So far so good." He says to himself as he tries to keep it to light flapping as he finds it easier to control. He keeps to areas where the people won't be able to see him through the trees and he decides to wait a little bit before heading back as he wants to make sure that he isn't followed.

….

"You know we didn't ask to be like this." Matt begins. "It's just how we turned out to be." His hands are clenched tightly into fists. "But you wouldn't understand. Just like those from our world. We tried believe us we did. Multiple times even but it all just resulted in the same thing. We were only wasting our breaths."

"Maybe you didn't go about it the right way?" Linda tries.

Suddenly Matt rounds on her glaring harshly. "What would you know!?" He almost shouts. "We tried every fucking peaceful way that we could think of and still the reactions were the same! There's no way we could expect you humans to understand! Because you don't know what it is like to be chased from your home and forced to live in the outlands away from human eyes! Then when you go to try to make peace all that happens is you get chased out and people try to kill you!" He clenches his teeth. "They call us monsters. Just because of something that we can't control. They see us as evil just because of how we have to survive." His tone sounds hurt then he hardens it again with anger as he continues. "It seems no matter where we go even in other dimensions no human will ever understand. They will never understand because they don't know what it's like to be born one way then to be pushed away over something we have no control over! You humans are all the same. Just believing that we can change something that is a part of who we are. As if we are robots that can have its programing changed whenever someone pleases."

Near approaches Matt and places a hand on his shoulder in which he turns to look his gaze softening. "That's enough." He says rather gently. "We should get going."

Matt silently nods then the three leave the room that is shocked into silence that they don't even notice right away that the three had left.
